Hello Dawn here, Today we have a special bonus episode that's a little different to our usual athlete interviews as we touch upon the business of sport and sport leadership here in the United Arab Emirates. As someone who's worked in sports communications for over 11 years, I recently had the opportunity to go to the Leaders in Sport Business Summit in Abu Dhabi held on 1-2 March. This episode shares some observations and snippets from just one of the many thought-provoking panels that took place. If you're unfamiliar with Leaders in Sport, among other things, they bring influential individuals within the sports industry together in a series of global events. The events are really a platform to foster discussion and debate about the state of the industry, explore trends and discuss ways to drive the industry forward. The panel you will hear in this episode includes the very inspirational Dr Omniyat Al Hajeri, Vice Chairwoman of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy ( FBMA), speaking live from the stage about the work of the FBMA and women's sports in general. She is joined by professional cyclist and pro rider for UAE Team ADQ, Safiya Al Sayegh, the first Emirati woman to race in the Women's WorldTour on a panel moderated by Laura McQueen, Managing Director of Leaders in Sport. We wanted to share some insights from this very uplifting panel and Dr Omniyat in particular as a sports leader as she discusses the role of the FBMA in sport development for women in the UAE and what it means for athletes like Safiya. The panel chats about leadership, pathways into sport, how the UAE is fostering talent and also, how organizations like the FBMA are encouraging more diversity in the wider sporting ecosystem. Dr Ominyat also discusses the many opportunities that exist here in the UAE for sport, something that as a long-time resident, I can absolutely attest to. A big thank you again to the Leaders in Sport team who kindly provided this audio for us to use within the podcast. I'm feeling proud of the great panel that assembled last evening to record the KDHX podcast Tangazo. —— One misguided would-be leader, once referred to St. Louis county African American elected officials, recognizing their common responsibility as “tribal politics,” I was astounded by that response from a well-respected black man, here in the 21st century! ——— The old notion that “white ice is colder than black ice” is still prevalent amongst some black leaders who claim to be so “woke” but will turn their backs on other black elected officials, who dare to stand up for the communities they represent. ——— Savvy St. Louis County Council Chairwoman, Senator Rita Heard Days, St. Louis County Council Vice Chairwoman, Shalonda Webb and Mo. State Senator Brian Williams, joined me last evening for some of the most interesting and insightful conversations, on the responsibilities of black elected officials, that I have had in a long time! ——— There was much discussion on the need for voter education on new state election laws heading into the November midterm elections. ——— We spent a lot of time talking about the importance of voters, especially black voters, having confidence in their elected officials and the disappointment that we all felt, for the recently indicted black officials in St. Louis city and county. We spent most of our time talking about the collaboration between St. Louis County Council Chairman Days, Stlouis County Council Vice Chairman, Shalonda Webb and Mo. State Senator Brian Williams. Their ability to work together has been a great benefit to St. Louis County, especially North St. Louis County. Senator Williams has helped secure close to 100 million dollars in funding for north county projects, including the demolition of the Jamestown Mall Complex, which will free up around one hundred forty acres, of prime land for development in far North County. A new north county recreational center and much-needed renovations to the campus of the UMSL are just some of the benefits, these 3 St. Louis County African American elected officials, are working on together for the betterment of St. Louis County, including North St. Louis County. Tribal politics indeed! ——-

The conversation continues with H.E. Dr. Aisha, and in part 2 we go deeper into her personal life as she recounts never-heard-before aspects of her childhood that shaped her character today. We talk about the social stigmas and glass ceilings that women are typically faced with in this part of the world, and her excellency talks openly about her perspective on why that's the case. It took courage and confidence for Dr. Aisha to break those barriers, and she gives candid advice to women on how they could pave their way to pursue bold dreams.Dubai is one of the most progressive cities in the world, and as a public servant, Dr. Aisha talks about the formula and reason behind the city reaching the global recognition it has.Great conversation, intimate flashbacks, incredible advice, and a lot of professional lessons to learn from.
Season 1 Finale is here, and what better way to end it than with a truly special guest that I look up to personally and have had the privilege to work with, that being: Her Excellency Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, who currently is the Vice Chairwoman of Emaar. The conversation I explore with Dr. Aisha is nothing like she's ever discussed in depth before, since we talk a lot about her upbringing, childhood and the intimate milestones that made her the person she is today. Dr. Aisha was titled as one of the world's most influential Arabs by Arabian Business Magazine (2019) and ranked as the Top 10 'Power Businesswomen' in the Middle East by Forbes in 2020 for the several prominent roles she's held throughout her 25 year career in the government, such as working as an executive for the office of HH sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.Prior to her current role at Emaar, Dr. Aisha was leading Smart Dubai, the smart city and technology arm of the government, and that's where I got the chance to work with her and witness her charismatic leadership.Dr. Aisha's active social media engagement, openness with people and advocacy towards female empowerment made her the admired influencer she is today. Some of the topics I explore with Dr. Aisha in part 1 of the conversation include:- Pressure of holding a leadership role in government as female in the early days- How honesty and openness in government are extremely important today- Why she chose technology as a field of profession back when there weren't many women in it?- Dreams that she had as a child, and were manifested- What does it really mean to work for the executive office of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE- The story of Smart Dubai and how it came about#oneday #dayone #podcast #motivationeveryday #newpodcastepisode#youtubepodcasts #podcastguest #personalgrowth #businessmindset #entrepreneurship#onedaythepodcast #Business #entrepreneur #inspiring #podcastshow #Anghami #spotify #youtube #businessadventure #inspiration #selfdevelopment #dubai #smartdubai #smartcity #smartdubaidata #data #bigdata #smartdata #dtcm #dubaitourism #ai #internetofthings #blockchain #technology #innovation #datapolicy #datastrategy #strategy #economy #digital #dubai_data #activedata #commercialdata #government #govtech #digitaldubai

Good leaders are trailblazers, making a path for others to follow. Great leaders, however, inspire their people to reach higher, dream bigger, and achieve greater. Perhaps the most important leadership skill one can develop is the ability to provide inspiration to their team. If you inspire others to reach for the stars, they just might bring you back the moon! Had such a great time and was honored to be joined by this episode’s special guest -- a walking community treasure chest filled with knowledge, insight, and experience -- Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan. Commissioner Jordan has enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career with Miami-Dade County, serving in numerous capacities including as a Public Administrator, Assistant County Manager, and Vice Chairwoman of the Miami-Dade County Commission. She has a very unique perspective of County government because of her decades of working knowledge and intimate familiarity with the system. Commissioner Jordan has been the people’s voice of reason over the years and demonstrated the political will to take on the known challenges of her community. Tune is as we discuss industry diversification for an improved economy, funding for infrastructure investment, updates on transportation and the SMART Plan, improvements with crime in Miami Gardens, addressing socio-economic inequality, the brain drain, and accountability and transparency in the budget process. She also drops gems on leadership qualities necessary for long-term success, what she’d tell her younger self, and her dream plan if she had a 100% chance of success! Commissioner Jordan is gearing up for retirement later this year, currently serving in her 16th and final year as a Miami-Dade County Commissioner. Her leadership and tenacity will sorely be missed, but I look forward to what’s on the horizon. “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail”

Tina Guenette Pedersen is the President & Founder of R.A.M.P.~Real Access Motivates Progress, and this is how her story starts; "Well, my name is Tina Pedersen. I'm 47 years old. I have two children and two grandchildren. And I was very active in my life. I was a cheer coach, dance mom, a Boy Scout leader, a football mom. Anything my kids did, I did with them tenfold. "I'm a four-time cancer survivor-breast twice, bladder twice. And during one of my bladder cancer surgeries, it was a very minor surgery to my bladder machine, because I have a machine now that helps my bladder. During a tweak to that with a 20-minute surgery, I took a stroke to my spinal cord and woke up and never walked again. So literally, a little over five years ago, I walked into surgery and never walked again" "So it was kind of like here's a wheelchair, go home and figure it out. And that's what I had to do. It took me a while. I mean, of course, I had my downtime in the frustration and just trying to get through your day to day because like I said at the time, my daughter was a senior in high school, my son was a freshman. I was her cheerleading coach for competitive cheerleading. I had to figure out how to live my life and how to make this wheelchair work and figure it out as I went along and I then threw myself into finding out as much as I could what was out there? And like I said, that's when I decided to start an organization for other people who ended up like me." -Brocade weaving, an age-old craft of the Van Kieu – PaCo in the central province of Quang Tri, has faded into obscurity due to the commercial production of modern fashion. To restore the craft, local administrators have organized weaving workshops to help people earn extra income and encourage the traditional clothes be worn at community festivals, and as work uniforms. “Colorful Vietnam, Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups” segment will introduce you to the activities that are helping the Van Kieu – Pa Co keep the art of brocade weaving alive. A Bung commune, where brocade weaving craft has developed the most in Dakrong district, has four production teams. Craftswoman Doan Thi Nga said it takes them three to five days to weave a piece of brocade cloth and two to three days to tailor a set of clothes. The production has earned them extra income, restored the traditional craft, and met their passion for creating beautiful brocade fabric. Mrs. Nga said it’s not merely weaving beautiful fabric for particular clothes and occasions, it’s about preserving the history and soul of the Van Kieu – Pa Co. “This is the traditional crafthanded down by our ancestors. It’s my passion and occupation. I don’t want it to fade,” said Nga. Ho Van Hien, Vice Chairman of A Bung commune’s People’s Committee, introduces the brocade products made by A Bung's Brodcade Weaving Club. A Bung commune authorities made staff uniforms of brocade fabric to help promote weaving production. WASHINGTON, DC – The Ripon Society, a 49-year old centrist policy organization dedicated to broadening the Republican Party's base, hosted a breakfast discussion focusing on one important way the party can achieve that goal – by increasing the number of women who join, run for office, and play a leadership role in the GOP. The discussion featured five women leaders who have done just that. These leaders included: Representative Shelley Moore Capito (WV-2), who Chairs the Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit; Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9), who serves as Vice Chairwoman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce; Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-8), who Chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government; Representative Kay Granger (TX-12), who serves as the Chairwoman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs; and former Representative Heather Wilson (NM-1), who served in the House from 1998 to 2009 and is now a candidate for the United States Senate.
