John welcomes former Obama White House comms director (and his ersthwile cohost on The Circus) Jennifer Palmieri to discuss the shuttering of the federal government earlier this week. Palmieri argues that Democrats were right to deny Republicans the votes it needed to further operationalize its agenda; that focusing on health care is fighting both the good fight (morally) and the right fight (politically) for her party; and that Donald Trump's embrace of Russ Vought's plan to lay off federal workers and cancel programs in blue states is only making it more likely that the GOP ends up being blamed for the shutdown. Thanks to Trump unifying the party and Democrat overreach, Republicans have surprisingly held strong on the shutdown. We first delve into a new, dangerous agreement to defend Qatar in case of war. At a time of global intifada being fomented by the Muslim Brotherhood, why is there no outcry about elevating Qatar to de facto NATO status? Next, we're joined by Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus. He notes how Republicans have a chance to win not only the government shutdown fight but the Obamacare subsidy fight by countering the narrative on health care. Sadly, they are hampered by a lack of numbers in Congress, but Harris argues that the Freedom Caucus' influence is growing. He says candidates are approaching the group a year in advance and pledging to join the merry band of conservative warriors. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The premier museum space in the country is the Smithsonian Institute. If you've never been or not been in a while - you may be shocked what you find inside. Washington DC -based journalist Maggie Little describes a trend in exhibits within the walls of the museums President Trump aims to tackle. It's also Government Shutdown Day 3 and with each passing hour - Democrats seem flummoxed while President Trump and Republicans hold firm. Now, federal jobs are on the line. Will that cause the Democrats to cave? It's also open line Friday which means anything goes and today - there's a growing chorus of conspiracy around Israel, Charlie Kirk's death, etc. Stigall tackled it head-on as always. -For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPodListen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The best way to counter lies is the truth. They lie all the time, its why trust in the media is at an all-time low. Republicans are tearing into the media publicly. Illegals mooching off the American healthcare system getting free care is making the care you get more expensive and worse. The cities in America don’t have to be filthy and crime ridden. The government has been operating solely on borrowed money since September 21, adding $2 trillion annually to the debt. Both parties avoid addressing fundamental fiscal problems through continuing resolutions that extend previous spending levels. Republicans claim fiscal responsibility while adding to the debt, and Democrats leverage shutdown threats to expand Obamacare subsidies. De Rugy argues that only entitlement reform of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security can solve the crisis, along with ending private sector subsidies and reducing federal involvement in state affairs

Let's talk about Republicans working on ACA tax credits and ignoring Trump....
This week, we're unpacking a tale of two shutdowns—and spoiler alert: they're both Trump's.First, the government shutdown: Why are Republicans celebrating a government shutdown while simultaneously blaming Democrats for it? How can they claim it's the "Schumer Shutdown" when they control all three branches of government? And why can't they keep their messaging straight—celebrating the shutdown on Newsmax while condemning it in Congress? We'll reveal what 71% (you read that right, seventy-one percent!) of Americans actually think about ACA subsidies (hint: they want them extended). And just over half want the Democrats to shut down the government to get those subsidies for them. And then, the shutdown of norms and decency: From Newt Gingrich's revisionist history in the New York Times to Bari Weiss taking over CBS News, from "Kavanaugh stops" to flashbang grenades in residential hallways—we're connecting the dots on the authoritarian playbook in action. The jackboots aren't coming. They're already here. All that and more in this edition of The Professional Left Podcast. More at proleftpod.com.Not safe for work. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four Thursday takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Who Do You Trust? Clay Travis outlines a Gallup poll that reveals trust in the media has plummeted to a record low of just 28%, compared to over 70% in 1980. Clay explores why Americans no longer trust legacy media, citing misinformation during COVID-19 and the Russia collusion narrative. He challenges listeners to share which media figures they still trust, emphasizing the difference between agreeing with someone’s opinion and trusting their factual accuracy. Make it Make Sense Clay also breaks down the controversy over illegal immigrants receiving healthcare benefits in the Democrats’ continuing resolution. While Democrats claim federal funds aren’t directly paying for undocumented healthcare, Clay explains how federal dollars flow to states like California, New York, and Illinois, which then allocate funds for these services. He ties this to COVID-era spending that Democrats want to make permanent, warning that these embedded costs are fueling the shutdown fight. Practicing Gratitude Clay continues the conversation on the collapse of trust in media, sparked by a Gallup poll showing confidence at historic lows. Clay shares listener reactions and humorously calls out fellow radio host Jesse Kelly for ordering $75 tequila shots, tying it into a broader discussion about gratitude and humility in media. Clay argues that many in mainstream media lack appreciation for their privileged positions, contrasting that with his own daily practice of gratitude and the conservative ethos of thankfulness for living in America. The American Dream An in-depth interview with Congressman John James, who is running for governor of Michigan. James responds to Al Sharpton’s false claim that Michigan lacks Black congressional representation, calling out identity politics and emphasizing policy over race. He outlines why Michigan will be the epicenter of U.S. politics in 2026 and 2028, citing open gubernatorial and Senate seats, competitive House races, and the state’s pivotal role in presidential elections. James stresses the need for strong Republican leadership to restore trust, improve education, strengthen the economy, and secure election integrity. He also shares his inspiring personal story—from growing up in Detroit to graduating West Point, serving as an Apache pilot in Iraq, and building a successful business—underscoring his commitment to faith, family, and service. Clay's Got Balls! Clay promotes his upcoming book “Balls”, which argues why young men and sports fans should vote Republican, and says he's going to donate all proceeds to charity and asks the audience which charity he should support. Main Themes Blame Assignment: the government shutdown is caused by Democrats, specifically Chuck Schumer, to avoid pressure from progressive figures like AOC. Media Criticism: Mainstream media portrays shutdowns emotionally (e.g., TSA officers, families struggling) to support Democrats’ narrative. Lawmakers & Paychecks: Criticizes Democratic lawmakers who refuse to withhold their pay during the shutdown while ordinary federal workers face delays. Healthcare for Illegal Immigrants: Argues Democrats shut down the government over demands to fund healthcare for undocumented immigrants, citing state-level programs (Rhode Island, New York). Public Opinion: References polls showing most Americans (including Democrats and independents) oppose a shutdown over such demands. Contradictions Among Democrats: Notes conflicting statements from different Democratic representatives and senators—some denying responsibility, others admitting to supporting a shutdown. Republican Framing: Republicans upport a “clean” continuing resolution to keep government open, while Democrats are inserting expensive demands ($1.5 trillion, healthcare for illegals, social programs). Polls & Data Used New York Times poll cited: 65% of Americans against shutdowns tied to Democrats’ demands. Breakdown by party: Republicans (92% opposed), Independents (59% opposed), Democrats (43% opposed). Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, WREC's Ben Ferguson fills in. The Schumer shutdown serves merely as a tactic to instill fear and undermine President Trump. Democratic members of Congress are insisting on receiving their salaries during the shutdown, yet it falls on Schumer to resolve the situation. He fears losing his position and facing a primary challenge from AOC. Sen Ruben Gallego asserts that he cannot afford to forgo a paycheck, despite earning $174,000 annually. Is this the kind of representation we want? They don't care about the struggles of those who truly live paycheck to paycheck. In addition, Democrats shut the government down demanding for illegal aliens to receive health care which makes it difficult for American citizens who need those benefits. They are also demanding NPR and PBS funding, they want to revoke rural hospital fundings, this is why they won't lift they shut down, because they are not getting what they want. Also, according to the left, Trump is unwell and unfit for the presidency. They argue that he is mentally unstable and immature, suggesting that his actions are jeopardizing the healthcare of millions, which is absolutely false. Learn more about your ad choices. It's Day 2 of the government shutdown. And we'd like to note that despite the government closing shop, House Republicans have been on vacation since last week, while House Democrats have been showing up to work. Vice President JD Vance told members of the press Wednesday that the real bad guys in the shutdown fight are Democrats, specifically Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Because, according to Vance, it's Schumer standing in the way of low-income Americans getting much-needed health care assistance, assistance that Republicans cut in President Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill." Both Democrats and Republicans have dug in their heels on this shutdown. Democrats want Affordable Care Act subsidies extended and Medicaid cuts reversed. And Republicans are fine with the government being closed – and want to fire thousands of federal employees. So to talk more about the shutdown, its impact on everyday Americans, and what comes next, we spoke to New Jersey Democratic Sen. Andy Kim.And in headlines, federal officials say they plan to reopen an Obama-era immigration program, Israel tries to intercept yet another flotilla attempting to carry humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the Supreme Court ruled that Trump can't just fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook… because he doesn't like her.Show Notes:Call Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The federal government shut down on Wednesday as President Donald Trump threatened mass federal layoffs. Republicans are blaming Democrats for the shutdown, while Democrats are refusing to support a Republican spending bill without guarantees to extend Obamacare provisions set to expire and reverse GOP health care cuts earlier this year.“Democrats are ... trying to reverse some of the cuts from the 'One Big Beautiful Bill' that was passed earlier this year to Medicaid,” says Intercept politics reporter Jessica Washington. “So what Democrats are really trying to message here is that they're fighting for health care, both to reverse some of these Medicaid cuts and also to ensure that the Affordable Care Act subsidies continue.”This week on The Intercept Briefing, senior politics reporter Akela Lacy speaks to Washington about the government shutdown and the impact it will have on public services, including essential services and federal workers. We're also following a federal court case where an appointee of Ronald Reagan blasted the Trump administration for unlawfully targeting pro-Palestine students for protected speech. “It's a historic ruling that rightly affirms that the First Amendment protects non-citizens lawfully present in the U.S. just as it protects citizens,” says Ramya Krishnan, lecturer at Columbia University Law School and senior staff attorney at the Knight First Amendment Institute, which represented plaintiffs in the case. “And if free speech means anything in this country, it means the government can't lock you up simply because it disagrees with your political views.”Listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. You can support our work at theintercept.com/join. As the government shutdown takes effect, Jon is joined by Roosevelt University Professor and contributing writer at The Nation David Faris, and "The Bulwark Podcast" host Tim Miller to examine Democratic strategy. Together, they explore what Democrats are hoping to achieve through the shutdown, discuss whether the party should rethink its resistance tactics and policy priorities, and consider what it would look like if Democrats embraced the hardball precedents Trump and Republicans have set when they eventually return to power. Democrats are making a gamble that voting against a Republican plan to fund the government will be worth the pain of the current shutdown.New Jersey's senior Democratic senator Cory Booker voted against a similar Republican plan to fund the government back in March. And he's been one of the most visible critics of the second Trump administration in the Senate. Host Colby Itkowitz speaks with Booker about the stakes of the current government shutdown, how long it could go on, and why he says Democrats must “do something” to try to reduce looming hikes in health care costs or risk further alienating their base.Today's show was produced by Laura Benshoff and Josh Carroll, with help from Zoe Cummings. On episode 99 of Native Land Pod, hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum talk shutdowns, Bad Bunny at the super bowl, and a new directive from Trump to go after “domestic terrorists.” Republicans and Democrats are once again at an impasse on the budget, meaning the federal government is officially shut down. Democrats are making a stand over health care. The Trump administration is threatening to use the shutdown to enact more cuts and layoffs. Our hosts outline what’s at risk and predict what comes next. Puerto Rican super star Bad Bunny has been tapped to perform at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show amidst a direct assault on the Hispanic community by ICE and the federal government. It recalls Kendrick Lamar’s politically charged performance last year. Do these performances have an impact, and if so, what is it? Why isn’t the media covering NSPM-7? In what could be the biggest change to national security since the Patriot Act, President Trump has directed the FBI, the IRS, and other federal agencies to go after domestic “terrorists.” Non-profits that support progressive causes and shows like ours could now face terrorism charges for “fomenting political violence.” This is probably the biggest underreported story of the year! Read NSPM-7: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/09/countering-domestic-terrorism-and-organized-political-violence/ Read the ANTIFA Terrorism Designation: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/09/designating-antifa-as-a-domestic-terrorist-organization/ Check out the Prison Journalism Project: https://prisonjournalismproject.org/ And of course we’ll hear from you! The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (10/01/2025): 3:05pm- At midnight on Tuesday, the U.S. government officially shutdown after Senate Democrats refused to agree to a continuing resolution. While Democratic Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) and John Fetterman (PA) voted with Republicans to pass the CR, the vote fell short of the necessary 60-vote threshold. According to rumors, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is reluctant to negotiate a deal with Republicans—hoping to prove his progressive credentials in order to stave off a potential primary challenge from Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. 3:30pm- During a Wednesday press briefing, Vice President JD Vance and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that Democrats have shut down the government as part of their fight to provide free healthcare to migrants residing in the United States illegally. 3:50pm- While discussing the New Jersey gubernatorial race on Fox News, Dana Perino cited Rich—so, we'll be playing that clip multiple times today. 4:05pm- During a Wednesday press briefing, Vice President JD Vance and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that Democrats have shut down the government as part of their fight to provide free healthcare to migrants residing in the United States illegally. 4:20pm- Did the government shutdown include audio on Capitol Hill? Chuck Schumer had some technical difficulties during an interview on Wednesday. 4:40pm- Will artificial intelligence kill us all (or at least take our jobs)? Rich and Justin are slightly concerned—Matt says he's a big believer in economist Joseph Schumpeter's theory of “creative destruction” and suggests we'll all be made better off in the long run. PLUS, Matt reviews 2001: A Space Odyssey and Alien—he didn't like either (infuriating everyone). And an autonomous Waymo vehicle gets pulled over for suspected drunk driving. Who gets the ticket? 5:00pm- Following the government shutdown, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) baselessly claimed that Republicans want to “take the wheelchair from your neighbor with a disability.” Meanwhile, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) yelled at a reporter for suggesting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-CA) is directing the shutdown from behind the scenes. 5:15pm- During a press conference on Wednesday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries dabbled in hyperbole as well—accusing Republicans of stealing “food from the mouths of hungry children” 5:20pm- In posts to social media, President Trump shared satirical memes of Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer wearing sombreros with mariachi music playing in the background. Democrats and media members have labeled the memes as “deep fakes”—but they're comically fake! No one would ever confuse them for anything other than edited. Vice President JD Vance joked: “I'll tell Hakeem Jeffries right now—I make this solemn promise to you, that if you help us reopen the government, the sombrero memes will stop.” 5:40pm- Dr. EJ Antoni—Chief Economist at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show! He discusses the withdrawal of his nomination to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics and explains that he simply didn't have the necessary number of Senators who were willing to meet with him. Rich emphasizes: “It's a loss for the good guys & a loss for the country.” Plus, Dr. Antoni weighs-in on the ongoing government shutdown. 6:05pm- At midnight on Tuesday, the U.S. government officially shutdown after Senate Democrats refused to agree to a continuing resolution. Let's play the clip again…in case people missed it in the 3pm, 4pm, or 5pm hours. 6:35pm- During an interview with CNN, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) suggested that Democrats will target private citizens who work with President Trump if Democrats win in 2026. 6:40pm- Zohran Mamdani—who will presumably become the next mayor of New York City—denied being a communist during a recent interview but embraced the title of “democratic socialist.”

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump unleashed a strange Truth Social rant declaring straight out that farmers are getting hurt because China is not buying soybeans. Of course, Trump's own trade wars are the reason for this, so he in effect admitted that his own policies are badly screwing one of his core constituencies. This comes as the ADP report finds that the economy lost 32,000 jobs in September, suggesting job losses could now get worse. All this bad economic news is piling up just as we're entering a bruising government shutdown fight, which will make the economy even worse. So are Trump and Republicans in a weak enough position for Democrats to hold the line in the shutdown fight? We talked to New Republic senior editor Alex Shephard, who has a good new piece analyzing the standoff. We discuss how Trump is increasingly shafting his own voters, how it's making him more vulnerable on the economy, and why all this should persuade Democrats to hang tough in the shutdown standoff. We are nearly one full day into the partial federal government shutdown and the political blame game is in full force. A vast majority of Democrats are insisting they will never vote for a clean funding bill that the Republicans have put up unless Republicans agree to tack on subsidies that would help Americans afford Obamacare coverage as well as reverse cuts to Medicaid.
