With his approval rating 20 points underwater, Donald Trump previews his new midterm strategy: telling voters to pretend he's on the ballot. Jon and Dan break down how that will play, react to the president renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” and preview the Republican Party's midterm convention. They also discuss Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s handling of a measles outbreak in Pennsylvania, new polling that has James Talarico up on Ken Paxton in Texas, and the unnerving number of Nazi-related scandals surrounding Mike Collins's Senate campaign in Georgia. Then, Annie Andrews, the Democratic nominee for Senate in South Carolina, talks to Dan about the momentum building for her campaign now that Darline Graham has won the Republican nomination.Hate listening to ads? On this episode of the MeidasTouch Podcast, Ben, Brett, and Jordy discuss: Donald Trump's bizarre move to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America” as his attacks on Canada escalate and his regime desperately tries to distract from the economy, the Iran war, and depleted U.S. weapons stockpiles. The brothers break down Trump praising U.S. adversaries while attacking America's longtime allies, and the collapse of his much-hyped “Economic D-Day” threats against Iran. They also react to Speaker Mike Johnson's panicked warning about Republicans losing the midterms and what his comments reveal about the stakes of the election. Plus, Trump's latest Kennedy Center scheme, growing questions about America's military readiness, and much more on the brother show. This week, Donald Trump aggressively highlighted a long screed from a MAGA influencer that sharply criticized the GOP for failing in all kinds of ways. This is aimed like a laser at depressing the Trump base. Making this matter more, Trump keeps saying stuff like this himself: He recently declared that his voters are not angry at him, they are angry at Republicans. Translation: Trump voters should hold the GOP accountable for failing him. This directly undercuts the GOP midterm strategy of campaigning on...the achievements of the GOP Congress. Note that Mike Johnson keeps attempting that strategy, only to see Trump undercut it again and again. We think this could actually matter, and to parse out why, we talked to Jennifer Rubin, editor-in-chief of The Contrarian. We discuss why Trump's attacks on the GOP really could make a huge difference in hard demographic terms, why Trump's political project requires him to keep doing this, and what Democrats must do now to avoid overconfidence and close out strong.  Looking for More from the DSR Network? They break down Trump's control of a $400 million super PAC, his controversial intervention in Republican primaries, and the warning signs emerging from candidates he has backed—including a South Carolina race where Republican voters openly booed his name. They also examine the mystery surrounding Trump's massive political war chest and Karoline Leavitt's move from the White House to MAGA Inc., raising fresh questions about what Trump is building beyond the midterms. The episode then turns to Trump's health, his weight, stamina, and growing public references to his own mortality, with his age becoming an increasingly important factor as he prepares to put himself at the center of another election campaign. In Part Five of his "How to Win 2026" series, Newt Gingrich lays out the Republican case on healthcare: what President Trump and congressional Republicans have already done to lower costs and expand choices, and what still needs to be built. American families are paying roughly the price of a new car every year just for job-based health insurance — and still facing narrow networks, sky-high deductibles, and bills nobody can explain. From TrumpRx's historic prescription drug price cuts to price transparency legislation, direct primary care, rural investment, and the Make America Healthy Again initiative, Newt makes the case for moving America from a sick-care system to a true healthcare system — one centered on the person, not the bureaucracy. The closing argument of the series: Republicans are helping Americans pay less today while building a healthier future for tomorrow.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Donald Trump is reportedly instructing advisers to spend big on midterm ads...about himself. Sources leak to The Atlantic that Trump advisers are telling him the real reason the polls look so bad is that voters are unaware of his many stupendous successes. He is apparently so unwilling to accept the reality facing Republicans that he's nixing their efforts to make their races more local—and less about him. All this comes as Republicans openly fear Trump's trade war with Canada will hurt their chances. That Trump is going haywire with his anti-Canada mania—even as the GOP begs him not to, and even as he plans new ads about himself—all constitutes a new level of unraveling. We talked to Mona Charen, who's been arguing at The Bulwark that Republicans badly need Trump to stay away from them. We discuss how Trump's autocratic nature bars advisers from telling him the truth, why Republicans aren't permitted to seek distance from him, and what some remarkable new polling reveals about Trump-MAGA weakness. Five years after the bombing at Abbey Gate, 13 Gold Star families are still waiting for a real, bipartisan accounting of what happened during the withdrawal from Afghanistan — and of the two decades of war that led to it. Paul Rieckhoff sits down with Connell McShane on News Nation for the weekly Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Wednesday hit and refuses to let the anniversary pass as another partisan food fight. He walks through what he calls the great American betrayal of Afghanistan, the Afghan allies still hung out to dry at home and abroad, and why an honest after-action review matters more than another round of finger-pointing. From there, the conversation pivots to the story the legacy media keeps missing: independents are now the plurality in sixteen states, roughly 48% of the country, while Republicans and Democrats sit at 27% each. Ten thousand Americans leave the two parties every single week. Paul breaks down the new farm team of independent veteran candidates — Todd Achilles up 5 on Jim Risch in Idaho, Seth Bodnar in Montana, competitive races in Nebraska and South Dakota — and explains why a single independent win in November could break the logjam the way Joe Manchin, Angus King, and Jesse Ventura have shown is possible. This week on Circle Back, host Jacob Gramegna is joined by Porter, Isaac Rose-Berman, and Shipper to break down three stories shaking up the prediction markets and sports betting world. The crew dives into a New York Times report that Donald Trump Jr. privately urged a room of Republican state attorneys general to back off regulating prediction markets, arguing that state pushback was being driven by gambling companies protecting their own turf rather than genuine consumer concerns. The panel unpacks what this closed-door pitch means for the ongoing battle between state and federal oversight of the industry, and why prediction markets have become such a political flashpoint heading into the fall. From there, the conversation shifts to a major shift in how prediction markets present their pricing, as platforms move away from familiar American-odds formatting toward straight percentages, a change that's got bettors adjusting their mental math and wondering if more platforms will follow. The show wraps with a look at sharp originators pulling their models and ratings out of public view, as some of the most respected names in the space decide their edge is too valuable to keep sharing for free, and what that shift could mean for bettors who've relied on that public data for years. This episode also marks the final edition of Circle Back Thursday. After more than a year on the air, this is the last time the show will run in this Thursday slot, though Circle Back Monday continues as normal and new content is on the way to fill the Friday spot.

For instance, Donald K. Trump loves the polls that love him, even as those polls are becoming harder to find. MAGAs don't want their Gops taking their cushion. A Gop going against Jon Ossoff in Georgia had a staffer who enjoyed swastikas, wearing KKK robes and calling himself a "twink fascist". There does seem to be a lot of that going around. On our radar this week… Jeff takes a week off and just like that, Trump starts another war! This time with him smack-ass in the middle of it. Jeff and his bride were in Canada's Maritimes and was attacked with Canadian kindness, poutine, real beef and not diseased Argentinian horse meat, the best lobsters and oysters in the hemisphere, and the inability of artisans and merchants to ship their goods to their traditional U.S. partners – or even for me to ship purchases home, due to the economically illiterate tariffs and self-destructive imbecilic trade war with our closest cousins. Back here in the U.S.A.: Trump's war could really cost him, eh? Senate and gubernatorial races in Michigan, Wisconsin, Maine and Ohio are already being impacted by the economic turmoil spinning off Trump's latest stupidity. Too bad for John James and Mike Rogers, Porky POTUS spent much of the week focused on his issue Number One: naming things after him, including: Another effort to put his name on the Kennedy Center despite a court order, threatening to tear down the Center if he doesn't get his way; Stripping the name of a World War II hero off a new aircraft carrier, reportedly instead renaming it for him, while ordering the Navy to spend billions on redesigns of carriers so they looked like World War II carriers and revert to outdated steam-powered launch systems; Inscribing a plaque on his under-construction helipad with his signature, clearly delighted that the new granite slab outside the White House will be a great place for cocktail parties. Reportedly deciding to use his $400-million political bankroll to run an advertising blitz on the Greatness of Trump … instead of directly supporting Republican candidates. But Michigan Republicans aren't joining the Trump Name Game. At their weekend state nominating convention, none of their candidates for state office mentioned Trump even once. Their focus was putting lipstick on the pig that is the GOP record on the economy. I wish them all smashing luck as they contort themselves into cartoonish pretzels in their futile efforts to avoid being fatally tethered to Donald Trump's venereal disease-level job approval. State Republicans are also reeling from what appears to be a growing Blue Wave. The non-partisan Cook Political Report has moved two Michigan congressional races away from the GOP: in the Macomb County based 10th district, from Leans Republican to Tossup … and in the Saginaw Bay region 8th from “Lean Democratic” to “Likely Democratic.” State Democrats are sharpening their verbal axes as we approach the traditional Labor Day launch of the campaign. The Canada Trade War drew immediate fire from Lt. Governor nominee Winnie Brinks, and 10th district congressional candidate Christina Hines. Senator Elissa Slotkin, in a speech to UAW leadership, said a longer term threat posed by the Trade War is Canada's growing partnership with China on sales of EV's … and Trump then allowing those cars across the Gordie Howe Bridge. Abdul El-Sayed is highlighting the obvious challenge facing Mike Rogers in the Senate campaign: does he risk angering Donald Trump breaking with him on issues beginning with the Trump-created Iran war, and the emerging hot-button issue of Data Centers. But the possibly most ominous development of the week came from the very Trumpy Supreme Court, which has started to open the door to a federal takeover of elections. Without ruling on the merits of Trump's Post Office deciding who gets to vote, Chief Justice John Roberts gave Trump permission to begin implementing his executive order. It was all part of a bizarre week that can probably be summed up in two words: Lake America, Trump's latest Sharpie-labeled change to world maps. And we have more developments on state ballot proposals for November – both of those stories directly involving Mark. He has been on a winning streak in his election-related battles, and provides an update: what’s in, what’s out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “I Will Always Love You” The feeling is mutual.
