Corey Abbott and Joe Lynch discuss tech-driven drayage: a PortPro perspective. Corey is the Chief Growth Officer and his team lead enterprise initiatives at PortPro, an innovative technology company that keeps the drayage industry moving efficiently with its operating platform built for drayage trucking companies, brokerages, and those that do both. About Corey Abbott Corey Abbott, Chief Growth Officer and his team lead enterprise initiatives at PortPro, focusing on developing comprehensive products designed to enhance the customer experience, guided by their needs and feedback. Corey spent over a decade at STG Logistics, the nation's leader in containerized freight, and XPO Logistics, where he built operational, financial, and back-office solutions to help companies and users across the globe. He also partnered with companies across multiple industries and modes of transportation (OTR, Drayage, Intermodal, Global forwarding, LTL, Supply Chain Warehousing/ Transloading, Expedited Air, Road, and Water). He held roles of CIO, Intermodal, and Drayage, and most recently, Chief Product Officer. He holds a Master's degree in accounting and finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. About PortPro PortPro is an innovative technology company that keeps the drayage industry moving efficiently with its operating platform built for drayage trucking companies, brokerages, and those that do both. Its flagship TMS platform streamlines order entry, dispatch management, container tracking, communication, appointment-setting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reporting, AI-driven features, and more for our customers - who can then provide full transparency and better service to their customers. Visit www.portpro.io for more information and to schedule a demo. Key Takeaways: Tech-Driven Drayage: A PortPro Perspective Corey Abbott and Joe Lynch discuss tech-driven drayage: a PortPro perspective. Corey is the Chief Growth Officer and his team lead enterprise initiatives at PortPro, an innovative technology company that keeps the drayage industry moving efficiently with its operating platform built for drayage trucking companies, brokerages, and those that do both. Drayage carriers and brokers face the following challenges: Operational Inefficiencies & Lack of Real-Time Visibility: Difficulty managing complex drayage processes and tracking critical information (containers, status, appointments) leads to wasted time, errors, and increased costs. Manual Processes & Poor Communication Hindering Productivity: Reliance on outdated methods for order entry, scheduling, invoicing, and communication creates administrative burdens, slows down operations, and limits collaboration. Stuck with Outdated Tech or Ill-Suited Systems: Drayage carriers and brokers often face a dilemma: either wrestle with legacy TMS platforms that hinder integration and lack modern AI, or try to force-fit traditional TMS solutions missing crucial drayage-specific features like appointment management. Missing the Mark on Drayage Needs: Existing TMS options frequently fail to address the unique complexities of drayage, lacking the specialized fields and functionalities required for efficient appointment scheduling, container tracking, and overall drayage operation PortPro customers enjoy the following advantages: DrayOS: A Purpose-Built Operating System for Drayage: PortPro's flagship product, DrayOS, is a cloud-based TMS (Transportation Management System) built specifically for drayage operations. It streamlines everything from dispatching and invoicing to document management and container tracking, offering users a centralized platform that eliminates manual workflows and siloed systems. Automated Workflows and Real-Time Visibility: With features like EDI/API integrations, automated billing, and GPS-based container tracking, PortPro empowers carriers and brokerages with real-time operational visibility and faster decision-making. This reduces delays, improves on-time performance, and boosts overall efficiency — critical in an industry where time is money. Compliance and Scalability at the Core: PortPro's technology is designed to adapt to regulatory complexities like AB5 and environmental compliance laws. It helps companies stay ahead of legal changes while scaling their operations without needing to invest heavily in back-office expansion. This makes it especially valuable for mid-sized drayage companies aiming to grow. Specialized AI Agents & Optimizers: PortPro launches AI-powered tools integrated directly into their TMS, offering targeted automation for specific drayage workflows like spreadsheet updates and empty container returns, accessible via an AI Marketplace and customizable chat interface. Key AI Features for Efficiency: The initial rollout includes "AI Chat" for real-time data queries, "Spreadsheet AI Agents" for automatic data synchronization with Excel and Google Sheets, and "Empty Return Agents" to automate the often cumbersome process of managing empty container returns. Addressing Drayage's Manual Inefficiencies: These AI innovations directly tackle the significant administrative burdens in drayage, which can account for up to 20% of operating costs, freeing up operations teams to focus on more strategic and customer-centric activities. Thank you to Democracy Defender-supporter Melissa for the question that produced this week's Q&A Bonus show! Be sure to subscribe at Patreon.com/Gaslit to submit your questions, get all shows ad free, and hear the full bonus episode! Why is DeJoy still in charge? Well, it all comes down to numbers—specifically, the ones the Democrats don't have yet. The USPS Board of Governors is still short of the votes needed to remove Louis DeJoy. There's a glimmer of hope on the horizon with Biden's nominations of former Florida Rep. Val Demings and former Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, but they need to get through Senate confirmation first. Even if that happens, the entire Democratic bloc on the board has to agree to boot DeJoy. And here's the kicker: they'll also need an Independent to back them. Now, about that Independent, Amber McReynolds: she was appointed by Biden. But, plot twist—this Biden appointee has gone on record saying the USPS is doing just fine. So yeah, not exactly a slam dunk for Team “Fire DeJoy.” This is how corruption is allowed to fester—DeJoy stays, he enriches his family through shady deals, and the USPS, along with its overworked staff, remains on the chopping block. It's the Reaganomics playbook: shrink government services, weaken unions, and let privatization sweep in to pick at the bones. All while the people who depend on these services are left with empty mailboxes and a dysfunctional system. Welcome to DeJoy's America! This week's bonus show includes a fiery continuation of Gaslit Nation's interview with Elie Mystal, Justice Correspondent for The Nation and author of the bestselling book Allow Me to Retort A Black Guy's Guide to the Constitution. Started a company in Canada in the early 90s and sold that when I was pretty young and moved to the US. And after that started another kind of shipping, logistics company that was sold to a NASDAQ company. So I kind of learned a lot about investments and the opportunities being public and some of the way that's laid out. And which led me to what I thought was my final business. I started a company called Segments Inc. which we grew that company substantially and now it's XPO Logistics, which is one of the largest kind of logistics companies in the world. So I kind of took a step back in 2007 and 2008 and started doing investments into small companies, really looking at management teams, early stage capital, meeting with companies from all industries. I mean, I invested in software, I invested in crypto, I invested in even marijuana, like not directly, but technology related to how they track that data. And then a couple of years ago, I saw this company that had a small brand in the CBD space, which I really liked, ended up investing enough money to take control of it. So, and when we kind of saw that business, and I saw the margin in the business, and how fragmented this whole space is, we ended up selling off the CBD assets. But in general, the industry we're in, and seeing how to make an investment, I think I just got excited about building another company. So that kind of got me here. I mean, everybody's journey is obviously unique, but I never thought I would understand the business the way I understand it now, coming from a totally different industry. But to me, business is all the same, right? It's putting together the best teams, building out your model, building out your future plans, really just paying attention to all of the details that it takes to be successful. So that's how I got here. You know, I'm sure, again, there's a lot of ways to get to a certain place, but, and interesting, I never thought I'd be back in a public company, especially, and working on a NASDAQ and with a company that's so regulated, but here we are. Business is all the same. It's putting together the best teams, building out your model, building out your future plans, really just paying attention to all of the details that it takes to be successful.Share on X So it sounds like you went from a vertical, maybe a niche, which is logistics, and then you build that up. And then you, as an investor, you had an opportunity to dabble and then now discover a higher level concept that allows you to be more focused with your investments, is how I understand it, maybe incorrectly. So how do you actually define that market that you say was fragmented and y...

Drew Wilkerson and Joe Lynch discuss why XPO spinning off RXO. Drew is North American Transportation, XPO and CEO-elect of RXO. About Drew Wilkerson Drew Wilkerson is the President, North American Transportation, XPO and CEO-elect of RXO. Drew is a transportation industry veteran with 14 years of senior experience in brokerage operations. He has leadership and P&L responsibility for XPO's asset-light North American truck brokerage business and complementary brokered services of managed transportation, last mile logistics and global freight forwarding. Mr. Wilkerson joined XPO in 2012 to spearhead the growth of the company's flagship truck brokerage hub in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was subsequently promoted to regional vice president and then president of XPO's North American brokerage business, and in 2020, he was named president of North American Transportation. Prior to XPO, he held leadership positions in sales, operations, and customer and carrier relationship management with C.H. Robinson Worldwide. Mr. Wilkerson will become chief executive officer of XPO's planned spin-off of its tech-enabled brokered transportation platform when the new public company is created later this year.  RXO Profile  RXO will be a leading platform for tech-enabled truck brokerage services in North America, with a long track record of industry-best revenue and margin growth, a highly efficient digital freight marketplace and access to vast truckload capacity, with complementary, asset-light offerings for last mile logistics, managed transportation and global forwarding. The corporate headquarters will be in Charlotte, North Carolina. Key Takeaways: Why is XPO Spinning Off RXO Drew Wilkerson is the President, North American Transportation, XPO and CEO-elect of RXO. In the podcast interview, Drew and Joe discuss why XPO is spinning off RXO. On July 12, 2022, XPO Logistics, Inc. (NYSE: XPO), a leading provider of freight transportation services, announced that a new company identity has been created in connection with the planned spin-off of its tech-enabled brokerage platform. The spin-off is named RXO to reflect the company's commitment to provide reliability multiplied by outperformance. RXO will go to market with the tagline “Massive capacity. Cutting-edge technology.” Brad Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of XPO Logistics, said, “Our spin-off now has a name — RXO — bringing it one step closer to becoming a standalone industry leader. Our best-in-class truck brokerage business will be the keystone of RXO's asset-light platform, poised to continue to take share of a growing market.” After successfully spinning off GXO Logistics last year, XPO Logistics is on track to run the same playbook, splitting the truck brokerage business (RXO), from the core North American less-than-truckload (LTL) business. Once the RXO spin-off is complete, both XPO and RXO will be streamlined pure plays in their respective sectors. In addition to being more attractive stocks, Drew feels that the respective companies (XPO and RXO) will provide even better service to their customers.   Over the last 11 years, XPO has grown rapidly organically and through acquisition. With the spin-off of GXO in August, 2021 and the upcoming spin-off of RXO, the 3 companies become leaders in their respective spaces with an even greater focus on their customers. XPO is a global leader in less-than-truckload transportation, and one of the largest LTL providers in North America. GXO is the world's largest pure-play contract logistics provider. RXO will be a market leader in truck brokerage, with complementary brokered services for managed transportation, last mile logistics, and global forwarding.
