There were some raises of Spockian eyebrows last week when Flutter Entertainment, the owners of FanDuel, announced an expected drop in revenue of some $370 million (Amarican bucks) thanks to its NFL customers getting the better of the books this season. So, as the four-down football league's postseason got underway with wild card weekend, Gaming News Canada Show regular Phill Gray – who led trading operations at Sports Interaction for more than two decades – rejoined the podcast. Gray and your humble host dug a little deeper into the reasons behind the bettors taking advantage of sportsbooks, and also looked ahead at the challenges and opportunities for the betting populace in the race to next month's Super Bowl. The 2024 U.S. presidential election and Justin Trudeau's pending departure as leader of the Liberal Party here in our home and native land has reinvigorated wagering on politics, including in Ontario's regulated gambling industry (as Dave Briggs reported in Friday's newsletter). We asked Gray for his thoughts on that topic, too. Finally, we took a quick peek at stories to watch in the sports betting space in 2025, including the odds of regulated gambling coming to Alberta, the crypto/betting story, and the potential impact around the growing popularity of women's sports on sportsbook operators. Justin Nielsen and Mike Webster analyze Friday's market action and discuss key stocks to watch on this extended version of Stock Market Today.
The latest financial results released over the past week or so by the likes of Sportradar, Genius Sports, DraftKings, theScore Bet and Flutter Entertainment all refer to the continued increase in activity by sports bettors when it comes to in-play/live wagering. From Genius Sports CEO Mark Locke, in his prepared statements in a call with analysts when the data/technology/broadcast giants put forth its Q3 2024 financials on Tuesday: “In-play wagering now represents 30% of total NFL handle—up from roughly 25% the prior season—representing a meaningful step in the right direction, which we always expected.” Phill Gray, the former long-time head trader for Sports Interaction and regular guest on the Gaming News Canada Show, returned to the podcast to deliver his thoughts and layers on the expanded in-play and same game parlay betting products, how sportsbooks are creating those markets in real time and the shifting role of traders with the operators. Gray also talked about the three types of bettors today, the acknowledgment by books that the customers did pretty darn well in October, and he offered his take on a new report by Bettometrics analyzing suspension times between top operators for Week 8 of the U.S. college football season, and Week 9 games in the National Football League. Gray also weighed in on the ongoing debate around limiting, and the overwhelming popularity beyond the United States for wagering on the recent U.S. elections. Hosted on Acast. On Friday, the shareholders of Kindred Group sanctioned the €2.4bn takeover of the Stockholm-listed gambling group by Française des Jeux (FDJ). First announced in January, FDJ's takeover of Kindred will have a seismic impact on the landscape of European gambling, transforming its competitive makeup across the markets of France, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium. And this will be the topic of today's episode of iGaming Daily, supported by Optimove. Martyn Elliott, SBC's Project Director, is joined by Ted Menmuir, Content Director for SBC, and Conor Porter, Senior Journalist for CasinoBeats, to talk about what the deal means for the Western European gaming market. On the agenda is the industry's reaction to the deal, whether the acquisition changes FDJ's profile and status in gambling and how the purchase compares to that of Flutter Entertainment's acquisition of the Italian firm Snaitech. Although transformative, the acquisition carries significant frailties as FDJ's buyout cannot hide Kindred's notable exposure in “stagnating Western European markets” and the trio also considers how FDJ will navigate Kindred's growth challenges. Court is in session this summer, at least the Court of Appeal for Ontario, which is being asked by the provincial government “to answer whether the Ontario's igaming regime would remain lawful under the Criminal Code (of Canada) if the overall size of the potential gaming audience of the scheme, otherwise known as its liquidity, is expanded to include players outside of Canada”. The latest session, which took place July 6, included legal representation for the Attorney General of Ontario, the Attorney General of British Columbia, members of the Canadian Lottery Coalition, the Canadian Gaming Association, Flutter Entertainment (owners of PokerStars and FanDuel), NSUS Group Inc. and NSUS Limited (proprietors of GGPoker), and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke. For their respective perspectives on the court proceedings, the Gaming News Canada Show welcomed back CGA president/CEO Paul Burns and Jack Tadman, the managing partner of GME Law. Burns walked us through the CGA's role in supporting the province's request and provided some history around cross/jurisdiction/border online gaming and daily fantasy sports. Tadman added a layer or two, too, to that topic and spoke about what intrigues him about the case and the participants. Burns had some thoughts last month's Canadian Gaming Summit and welcomed Kiron Interactive as the association's newest member. Both Burns and Tadman addressed the ever-evolving nature of regulated sports betting and gaming, and we also asked Tadman for his reaction to the ongoing push by Senator Marty Deacon to pass Bill S-269, National Framework on Advertising for Sports Betting Act. From the Dept. of In Case You Missed It, iGaming Ontario released Wednesdayits FY 2024-25 Q1 Market Performance Report. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

A busy morning saw markets updated with the respective full-year 2023 results of gambling giants Flutter Entertainment and 888 Holdings.Flutter's revenue is going from strength to strength across most of its markets following a business transformation in 2023. Last week, UK inflation figures surprised on the upside, with the headline Consumer Price Index showing 4%, surpassing the consensus estimate of 3.8%. Core inflation also exceeded expectations at 5.1%, deviating from the forecasted 4.9%. Despite the increase, economists caution against overinterpreting this data, as inflation is projected to reach the Bank of England's (“BOE”) 2% target by the spring. Nevertheless, this data counters market complacency, suggesting the BOE might delay the pivot towards interest rate cuts until later in the year. The market is now largely pricing in the first interest rate cut in May, with the expectation of overall rate cuts in 2024 decreasing from 1.25% to 1.10%...Stocks featured:Dunelm Group, Flutter Entertainment and OcadoTo find out more about the investment management services offered by Walker Crips, please visit our website:https://www.walkercrips.co.uk/This podcast is intended to be Walker Crips Investment Management's own commentary on markets. Good morning from London where the FTSE 100 is pretty much where it was yesterday, scudding along at its lowest since late November at around 7,450 points. Today is very much a tale of two stocks, with Watches of Switzerland taking a real pounding and Paddy Power owner Flutter Entertainment having a very strong start to the morning. Watches of Switzerland shares are down nearly 30% after they were issued a profit warning. The company says it now expects financial year 2024 revenue of around £1.54 billion, down from previous guidance of £1.65-1.7 billion. Brian Duffy, chief executive said: "The festive period was particularly volatile this year for the luxury sector, with consumers allocating spend to other categories such as fashion, beauty, hospitality and travel." And Paddy Power's 10% share price boost this morning came despite US trading being hit by some “customer friendly” sporting results, particularly in the NFL. Peel Hunt expects Flutter's additional listing in New York (expected 29 January) to be a significant driver of the share price as US domestic investors invest in a local market leader. And finally some good news over at Royal Mail owner International Distribution Services, which said it achieved its best Christmas operational performance for four years. Group revenues are up by 9.8% on the previous year, with Royal Mail winning back customers following last year's industrial action. That's all for now but stay tuned for plenty of interviews and news updates throughout the day. #ProactiveInvestors #FTSE100 #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Good morning from London where the FTSE 100 has finally broken out of the holding pattern its been since last Thursday, falling below 7,400 points. The index is being weighed down in general by some mixed economic signals coming out of Asia, but also by some notably tough starts to the day for some big-name equities. Paddy Power owner Flutter Entertainment is the biggest faller so far, saying in a Q3 trading update today that it expects full-year earnings - excluding the US market - to be at the bottom of its previously forecast range. Discount retailer B&M also down heavily today despite raising its full-year profit guidance and reporting a 16.1% rise in first half core earnings. They're certainly not the only ones reporting good news and getting hammered for it at the moment. Today's big riser is Auto Trader, its shares are up 6% after some strong interims that showed a 10% increase in group operating profit to more than £160mln. Some rays of sunshine for housebuilders too, with Taylor Wimpey saying it expects to come in at the top-end of expectations for its operating profits although it said the market remains challenging. Surveyors are saying that the pace of house price falls may also be steadying as the end of the year approaches. That's all for this morning. #ProactiveInvestors #FTSE100 #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

The world of FCPA enforcement is always changing, and in this episode of Corruption, Crime and Compliance, Michael Volkov catches us up on three recent enforcement actions. From Corsa Coal's rare declination to SEC settlements with Flutter Entertainment and Rio Tinto, each case offers important insights into the current state of FCPA enforcement. He shares how voluntary self-disclosure, appropriate due diligence processes, and enhancements to compliance programs and accounting controls can help companies avoid penalties and strengthen their position. You'll hear Michael discuss these ideas:Companies are encouraged to voluntarily self-disclose bad behavior to the DOJ, which may result in a declination and significant reductions in penalties.Corsa Coal earned a rare declination from the DOJ after cooperating in the prosecution of two former executives and meeting their burden to establish inability to pay. Their disgorgement was significantly reduced from $31 million to $1.2 million.Flutter Entertainment, which acquired PokerStars, was fined $4 million by the SEC for improper payments to Russian-based consultants made by Stars Group, its previous owner. Stars Group failed to conduct due diligence or maintain appropriate written contracts for third parties, leading to bribery violations.Acquiring companies should conduct appropriate due diligence on the acquired company's FCPA compliance.Rio Tinto paid $15 million to settle FCPA violations arising from a bribery scheme involving a senior Ghanaian government official. Despite red flags indicating that the consultant was advising the Ghanaian official and preserving Rio Tinto's ability to operate in Guinea, Rio Tinto eventually approved two lump sum payments totaling $10.5 million.Companies should pay attention to red flags when paying high commissions to sales agents involved in extractive industries.Rio Tinto implemented enhancements to their compliance programs and accounting controls after FCPA violations.KEY QUOTES:"As part of DOJ's push on voluntary self-disclosures in changes to its corporate enforcement policy, they really are encouraging companies to come in and voluntarily disclose when they find bad behavior." - Michael Volkov"...when acquiring a company, you've got to conduct due diligence and make sure that you do not find any FCPA violations or any problems like that." - Michael Volkov"Rio Tinto strengthened its ethics and compliance organization, enhanced its code of conduct, as well as its policies and procedures, gifts and hospitality, due diligence, and use of third parties. In addition, Rio Tinto enhanced its whistleblower program and improved its monitoring systems and internal controls related to payments to third parties. Finally, Rio Tinto enhanced its anti-corruption risk assessments and transactions testing and increased training of employees and third parties." - Michael VolkovResources:Michael Volkov on LinkedIn | TwitterThe Volkov Law Group

Often the biggest element of psychology is organisational change – Sophie When our clients go through a workplace transformation project, it's often because there are big drivers for change, such as mergers, acquisitions, business restructuring, technology improvements, or generally just culture change. Often, they need a workplace to be able to not just support this change, but also act as a catalyst for it. - Sophie It's my job to be able to help support the end users of the space the mindset shift to enable them to use that new workplace efficiently. - Sophie What we're seeing now is that the office needs to have more of a purpose than it did before. There has to be a reason for people to come to the office. - Sophie You might be in a 10 year lease, but you can't build out a space to last 10 years. - Caleb A lot of people now have the view that their home life has had to adapt to work, and now work should have to adapt to people's home lives. - Sophie If people want to be working in a new way, in a hybrid way, they really need to be thinking about investment in terms of people, place and technology. - Sophie We need to invest in facilitating the right culture for our business and picking the place and the experience based on that, starting with culture first is the most important thing. - Caleb I think a lot of organisations historically have just used wellbeing as a bit of a tick box and a bit of a perk. - Sophie Resources: TSK website : Flutter Office, Leeds City Centre TSK website: BLM Law, Manchester The Shaping of Us, Lily Bernheimer WorkLife Podcast with Adam Grant TSK Documentary Shout Outs: Adam Grant Antony Slumbers Michele Schneider About Our Guests: Sophie Foster https://www.linkedin.com/in/sophiefostertsk/ Sophie Foster is a Workplace Consultant at TSK Group, who design and build amazing workplaces for some of the world's biggest brands across the UK and Ireland, including Kellogg's, WeWork, Adidas, Money Supermarket, Flutter Entertainment and Bold.
