Scott Fuglistaller was one of those champion team mates who did everything he could to be the best he could be. Unfortunately for the self acclaimed battler it was just never quite enough during his time at the Hurricanes competing with some pretty gifted athletes. He found a way though with moves to the Highlanders and then the Melbourne Rebels for him to become a regular Super Rugby starter and even captain. Sitting at a natural weight of around 80kgs, Scotty had to work so hard in the gym and with his diet to get to a weight that he could survive in the forwards at Super Rugby level. That came at a price, having 11 major surgeries during his career which took it's toll. Some other parts that stood out for me in this one were..The freedom Scotty had growing up which meant he grew up quickHow finding rugby was a turning point in his lifeHow he got from 80kg to 106kgsHis battles with self confidence and why he played his best under pressureWhy he moved to Japan and his time playing thereThe struggle of life after rugbyAnd how he landed in his current role of helping retired players tranisition with the NZRPA.As you'll hear Scotty has had a journey to get where he is, he's such a top man who will always put others first. It's widely believed that work is something that is supposed to happen between the hours of 9 to 5, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week, 50 weeks per year, for 40 years, until age 65 or later. Then, and only then, are you allowed to think about and prioritize the people and things that matter to you the most. Or at least that's how it seems. But in reality, you should also be spending your younger years enjoying time together with friends and family, exploring and traveling, and dedicating your time to the causes that you care about - not just when you're older. In order to enjoy that level of time freedom, it will require you to reach some semblance of financial independence earlier in life. But these days, when people hear the term financial independence, their minds automatically envision the super-rich tech entrepreneur who founded a company from their dorm room and the next day, sold it for billions of dollars. Or they think of the extreme case of winning a multi-million-dollar lottery prize or some other sort of life altering windfall. But this doesn't have to be the case.In this episode, Malcolm Ethridge shares his thoughts on financial independence; what it is, what it's not, and what it will take to reach it in this lifetime. As a millennial on his own financial independence journey, Malcolm [take this from the back jacket text]Malcolm Ethridge Discusses: What financial independence is and is notHow to determine your own “enough” point and what do do when you get thereThe importance of developing passive streams of income Why it is not necessary to take a vow of poverty to reach financial independenceConnect With Malcolm Ethridge:The Tech Money Podcast LinkedIn: Malcolm EthridgeConnect with Malcolm @MalcolmOnMoney

Our brain was designed to keep us safe, and in the days when humans had to run from sabertooth tigers, our brain's job was to scan for danger and make sure that we stay out of harm's way. Even though we are not in danger of being eaten by a saber-tooth tiger these days, our brain is still always trying to keep us safe by keeping us in the same spot where we are comfortable and stable. This Caveman Brain® can hold us back in business where it is necessary to step out of our comfort zone in order to achieve what we want. Today's guest has a new way of setting intentions and going after our vision.Dr. Jean Oursler is otherwise known as the Results Queen. Dr.Jean has a Ph.D. in business psychology and is considered one of the country's top business consultants, a top-rated speaker, and a world-class business performance coach. She is the author of “Give up Goals and Results are Yours”. Using Innovative Brain Science, Dr. Jean is the creator of a groundbreaking business growth system called the Caveman Brain Business Growth System powered by Caveman Brain®.In this episode, Dr. Jean shares her method that she uses with her clients to help them finally reach the result that they haven't been able to achieve on their own. Whether that is a sales goal or chronic procrastination, she has a method that starts with ditching the idea of goal setting (I know, sounds crazy but hear her out!). Her method involves Z-A thinking, which starts with your ideal outcome in mind, and then works all the way backwards to the very first step that needs to be taken to get there. With this clear path set out, why would there be any reason not to achieve what you want? Living in a world of constant distraction can make it that much more difficult to do what needs to be done to move the needle forward, but by understanding your brain and what you need to do to make things happen, it comes down to putting in the work and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. Tune in to learn to set your outcomes with intention and overcome your Caveman Brain®.Key highlights:Dr. Jean explains Caveman Brain®Z-A thinking: Going backward by starting at your outcome and figuring out the steps to get thereThe idea that our brain responds best to words that go up in sound, like “result” and doesn't respond as well to words that go down in sound like “goal”A lot of people are not clear on their goals and others will put them down, so a strong belief system is essentialThe way you do anything is the way you do everything, so how are you doing things in other areas of your life?We live in a society full of distractionsOur brain chemistry is changing with technologyConnect with Dr. Jean Oursler:Website: cavemanbrain.comEpisode resources:TEDx talk on procrastination: TEDx: Inside the Mind of a Master ProcrastinatorBook: Living With a Seal by Jesse ItzlerConnect with Eric:Be sure to connect with me in the Lead Sell Grow - The Human Experience Mastermind Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/leadsellgrow/Pick up your copy of B2B Sales Secrets HereLearn more about our services: www.TheGoalGuide.comImprove your sales and stay connected – Free Gifts Here https://shor.by/TheGoalGuide

As I'm taking inspired action in my company (hosting a 3-part live video training starting September 22, hosting a virtual summit in January and publishing a book in March), I'm thinking how many of us smart, professional women approach our personal life differently. When you're so busy with work and life, it's hard to find time and energy for dating and searching for the right man. When you haven't been putting yourself out there for a while, it's really hard to say to yourself, “Okay, NOW is the time” and start dating again.Am I right? When you find reasons (or excuses) to not take any action now, you aren't taking any risks.Sure, it's easy, safe and comfortable to spend another Friday night (or every night!) alone on your favorite couch watching Netflix, reading a book or meeting with a friend. But the problem with listening to these thoughts is that you aren't just staying in the same place. You're actually getting into a worse place. There's a huge hidden COST of waiting and staying alone when it comes to your ability to attract the high-quality man you want.I explain exactly why, how it actually works and what you can do differently RIGHT NOW in this new episode #70

Acts 20:9-12 CEV9 A young man by the name of Eutychus was sitting on a window sill. While Paul was speaking, the young man got very sleepy. Finally, he went to sleep and fell three floors all the way down to the ground. When they picked him up, he was dead. 10 Paul went down and bent over Eutychus. He took him in his arms and said, “Don't worry! He's alive.” 11 After Paul had gone back upstairs, he broke bread, and ate with us. He then spoke until dawn and left. 12 Then the followers took the young man home alive and were very happy.Who was Eutychus?Eutychus, whose name means “fortunate,” had the misfortune of falling out of a window—and the fortune of experiencing a miracle directly afterwards.Paul has sailed from Philippi and is on his way back to Jerusalem with a gift for the church there. He spends a week in Troas, and “on the first day of the week we came together to break bread.Eutychus fell asleep due to the long nature of the discourse Paul was giving, fell from a window out of the three-story building, and diedLuke was a physician (Col. 4:14), and he plainly states that Eutychus was "taken up dead". He died of the fall. What can we learn from him?Just because God is protecting us and keeping us safe from the enemy, that doesn't mean we should be careless. Eutychus was there listening to Paul's message alright, but he died because he sat down somewhere he shouldn't have sat, at a time he shouldn't have sat thereThe young man died, but He brought Eutychus back to life through the hands of Paul.God cares about every single thing that we do for Him.Our ConfessionPaul refused to admit or say that the boy was dead. ‘Don't be alarmed,' he said. ‘He's alive! After Eutychus was restored to life, the church in Troas had a meal, Paul continued preaching, and, as would be expected, Eutychus's friends and family were “greatly comforted” to not be planning a funeralMany times when Jesus performed similar miracles He also said that people that died "where asleep".2 Corinthians 12:12 The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with utmost patience, with signs and wonders and mighty works. Concentration is the ability to focus on one thing at a time and focus on that task until it's complete. It's also extremely difficult to accomplish, especially in a world filled with constant emails, distractions, and notifications. Once you've determined the hardest, most valuable thing to accomplish, do that thing — no matter how unpleasant it seems. The most successful people in the world realize how critical concentration is to their success. And little of the rest of the world understands how difficult it can be.Constraints are the limiting factors that stand in the way of where you are today and how fast you're able to get to where you want to be in the future. Instead of trying to change the world, identify a single factor and try to alleviate it. If your constraint to meeting new people is social anxiety, start with a coffee date with a couple of your close friends, then graduate to a dinner party you host, then expand from thereThe next 3 principles will come in the upcoming 2 episodes! To read the book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/55453993-success-principles-of-brian-tracyCome hang in my Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/teamjaim91Or connect with me on Instagram: instagram.com/jaim91

Intro: Biblical grace and biblical love are very closely related. These words are not just nouns. As nouns, all we do is identify them. But when these words become verbs, they we see life changing events happen. Let me illustrate with words from a famous musical composer: “A bell's not a bell 'til you ring it - A song's not a song 'til you sing it - Love in your heart wasn't put there to stay - Love isn't love 'til you give it away!” ― Oscar Hammerstein This same principle applies to grace. Let's review the definition of grace. In this passage, Dr. Luke gives us two great examples of God's grace in action. Jesus' Grace In Action Opens HeartsDifferent experiencesLydia A women who was seeking God at a prayer meetingShe was a GentileJesus opened her heart to respond to Paul's messageJailerA Gentile and government employee doing his jobPaul and Silas arrested and put in the inner jail and shackled under heavy guardThe reason for their arrestThe fortune teller slave to a spirit in her, and her ownersShe followed Paul and Silas shouting and disrupting for many daysPaul became annoyed and cast out the evil spirit which infuriated her ownersThey filed a complaint with the town magistratesThe magistrates and the town's people joined together in trying to silence Paul and SilasThey had them stripped and beaten with rods and put Paul and Silas in jailEnter the jailer Jesus's Grace Is Able to Break Through Our CircumstancesPaul and SilasSinging hymns and praying to God at midnightWorship lifted them above their unpleasant circumstancesThe other prisoners and jailers were listeningGod intervenedSudden violent earthquakeAll the prison door flew openEveryone's chains came looseBut the prisoners did not leaveJailerWoke up with the earthquakeSaw the prison doors open and was about to kill himselfExplain the penalty for letting prisoners escape for the guard in chargeThey must pay the penalty of the most sever offender e.g. death rowPaul shouted to the jailer not to harm himself because all the prisoners were thereThe jailer rushed in before Paul and Silas and asked a key question, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" v. 30Paul told him very simply, "Believe in the  Lord Jesus, and you will be savedJesus's Grace Can Be ContagiousLydia's HouseShe and her members were baptizedNote, each member of her family needed to personally receive Christ as their Lord and SaviorIt is not automatic the if one person in a house gets saved, the others are automatically savedJailer's HouseThe Jailer and the his household were baptizedThe note above (Lydia's house) applies here alsoJesus's Grace Cannot Be JailedThe magistrates had no case against Paul and SilasThey send word to have them releasedPaul said no...let them come and escort us outThis held the government accountable and guarded the gospelPaul was a Roman citizen and was entitled to due process, which he was deniedThis frightened the magistrates and the citizensThe magistrates came and politely escorted Paul and Silas out of prisonPaul and Silas went to Lydia's house, they met with the brothers and sisters, encouraged them and leftThe gospel goes on!

Alex has written extensively about how he deals with these exact things, so I knew that he would be the perfect guest to help us really dive into how to face negative emotions and figure out how to lessen their power on us so that they don't hold us back from doing what we want to do.Episode highlights: What do you do after hitting rock bottom?Rewiring your brain for positivityWhat to do with the voice in your head that tells you you're not good enoughWhy you should welcome nerves before putting yourself out thereThe best way to exercise failure demonsHow to deal with deliberate knobheadsBlogging as therapyPhilosophies for lifeWhy make the effort to improve? What do chilli con carne and jokes have in common? How using your phone less can help with climate changeAnd of course, Alex sets his personal environmental challenge in line with his valuesI'd love to hear your thoughts about the episode. Do you feel more empowered to put yourself out there and go for the things you want regardless of whether you succeed or fail? Are there any failures that you think you could learn more from? Inspired by Alex's honesty and desire for continuous improvement I invite you to let me know if there is anything that I can do to be a better podcast host and give you a more enjoyable listening experience. I can still remember the feeling of panic that hit me when I heard the news. I wouldn’t have been able to recognize it at that time, but being let go from a dead-end job was the best thing to ever happen to me in my career. While so many people are dealing with hardships and changes in their work right now, I wanted to reflect on my experience being laid off and how it’s turned into good over the past few years. In this episode I’ll share:What my first job out of college was, and why I felt stuck thereThe fears and insecurities that kept me from considering making a career changeHow I was laid off, and what it made me realize about my potential, worth and professional goalsThen, I’m answering a listener question from Claire about how to know when it’s time to start planning for a career change. Find full show notes here: https://www.jenniferspoelma.com/podcast-feed/laid-off

“We are all essentially shades of shadow to light, and the shadow is just aspects of ourselves that we haven’t forgiven and brought into light yet.” Like many of us, David Newell started out on the traditional path through life. After graduating, he took a lucrative career in investment banking and all was good for a while - until he burnt out aged just 25. The burnout was so severe that David was forced to quit working and take 6 months to recover and find himself again. But as often is the case, this rock-bottom moment blossomed into an opportunity for massive healing and self-discovery. In this time, David chose to travel, invest in retreats, and get curious about life. This healing journey uncovered an enduring need to dive deep into the inner self to understand the workings of the mind. It’s where his Inner Truth podcast and business was born - work that he loves and work that provides a platform for continuous growth.Nowadays, David is obsessed with diving deeper and exploring further. It’s a journey that’s taken him from the Amazon, to temples, to everything in between. He’s read books, taken courses, had deep conversations and met indigenous cultures - all fuelled by his desire to figure out what it takes to live a good life.In fact, thanks to David’s many explorations (including a trip to the 10th dimension courtesy of Toad Medicine), he’s developed a level of consciousness that inspires me. And I’m sure you’ll feel the same when you tune into this deep and meaningful conversation about life, love, and everything in between.“Everything is the pursuit of love. Even in the most twisted and wobbly and fear-bound and shadowy and sometimes manipulative ways, it’s all an attempt to find love.” In this episode, David and I explore the meaning of life from all kinds of angles. This is a great one for thought-provoking questions and ideas that will challenge your thinking and inspire a fresh perspective.Tune in to hear about:David’s trip to the 10th dimension and the universal truths he discovered thereThe 10kg appearance lesson that collapsed David’s lung and taught him to ‘rest’ into what nature gives youWhy everything in life is actually taking place inside you (and how you can leverage this insight to live a good life). What becomes possible when you take responsibility for EVERYTHING that happens in your life (including the things you don’t want to own).David’s four-part Life Visioning Process that will help you create a life well lived.A powerful decision that ensures you can create a life where it’s possible to do it all.Exciting details about the groundbreaking human design product that David is getting ready to launch. And so much more. ChorusO victory in Jesus,My Savior, forever. He sought me and bought meWith His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew HimAnd all my love is due Him,He plunged me to victory,Beneath the cleansing flood. I heard about His healing,Of His cleansing pow'r revealing. How He made the lame to walk againAnd caused the blind to see;And then I cried, "Dear Jesus,Come and heal my broken spirit,"And somehow Jesus came and bro'tTo me the victory. I heard about a mansionHe has built for me in glory. And I heard about the streets of goldBeyond the crystal sea;About the angels singing,And the old redemption story,And some sweet day I'll sing up thereThe song of victory.

We cannot overstate the impact this pandemic has had on our healthcare providers. When you think about all the stress and pressures these front-liners are going through day in and day out, you can see how a lot of aspects are playing in that are leading to clinical burnout and, ultimately, addiction. Yet, we need to recognize that this is just a part of a larger system that's going on in the individual. On this episode, Duane talks with clinical psychologist Michael Tkach as he shares about addiction and other issues that healthcare workers are facing during these COVID times. A clinical psychologist by training, Michael is the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Behavioral Health Officer for Affinity Empowering, a technology-based solutions provider that supports overall health and wellness endeavors and that has also become a major provider of COVID-19 testing.Michael recently conducted research on medical care providers who are providing care to individuals diagnosed with terminal illnesses. What was highlighted in the research was a sense of powerlessness. These providers have no power to change the course of the etiology of the disease and they're left with no other option but to simply manage the disease. Michael was drawn into the mental health field after growing up in a neighborhood with a high prevalence of addiction as well as death by suicide. He eventually ended up at Hazelden Betty Ford for postdoctoral residency and then later came on staff there holding a variety of different roles. At Affinity Empowering, they think about how people engage in health care and how they can affect change with addiction and mental health in general.Today, Michael shares his expertise and wisdom about addiction treatment and how we can help individuals struggling with addiction, especially our frontline healthcare workers who are working so hard to provide the best care they can under extremely difficult circumstances. If you're a healthcare worker out there struggling, please reach out for help so you can get the support you need. In this episode, you will hear:Looking at addiction from a much larger scopeClinical burnout caused by a sense of powerlessnessThe perfect storm of many social supports not being thereThe lack of social support when people are looking to reduce stress and disengageHow alcohol sales have increased during the pandemicThe overlapping Venn diagram of prevalence between traumatic experiences and substance useGetting in-person support vs. virtual supportKey Quotes:[05:23] - "The way that I approach addiction and addiction treatment is how all of those factors coalesce and come into a single point to affect the individual rather than trying to be reductionistic." [09:26] - “When we start looking at what happened with COVID and how places were overwhelmed, what you started seeing is that clinical burnout that goes along with that feeling of helplessness.”[13:39] - "A lot of times, we think of addiction as a disease state that really thrives in isolation, people have shame. They hide it, they want to downplay how much they're using."[14:38] - “During the beginning of the pandemic, globally from April to June of 2020, alcohol sales increased over 34% to the year prior.”[18:15] - “There are those traumatic experiences where people are talking about loss, they're talking about those experiences and those pressures to keep going that leads towards burnout.”[18:25] - “There is this overlapping Venn diagram of prevalence between traumatic experiences and substance use."[23:53] - “As much as we love to think that therapy is therapy and supportive support, it is a different skill set to do it virtually than to do it in person.”Subscribe and ReviewHave you subscribed to our podcast?
