Season 24 Episode #73 Bobby Schindler and Shaun J BoyceThis episode with Eddie Gonzalez delves into his career and experiences as the director and chief business officer of the Atlanta Open, reflecting on his love for tennis and the tournament's growth. A few key points include his leadership journey, his passion for building the event over 10 years, and the challenges involved in running a high-level ATP Tour event.Summary:- **Eddie's Background**: Eddie grew up in Rome, Georgia, played high-level junior tennis, and competed for NC State University. His career in sports started at Athlon Sports before he returned to tennis, leading the Atlanta Open for a decade.- **Career Highlights**: Eddie discussed how he elevated the Atlanta Open, making it an annual sports and entertainment event, bringing in crowds and enhancing the experience for fans. One of his proudest achievements was building the event from a temporary parking lot to a "party where a tennis match breaks out." - **Challenges**: Eddie highlighted the difficulties of hosting an outdoor event in the summer heat and dealing with unpredictable weather. For instance, the 2023 finals didn't conclude until 3 a.m. due to rain delays. Despite these challenges, the event maintained strong attendance.- **Impact on American Tennis**: Eddie is proud of the Atlanta Open's role in giving rising American players like Taylor Fritz, Francis Tiafoe, and Christopher Eubanks their first big opportunities. He also emphasized the importance of fostering local tennis talent and creating future champions.- **Legacy**: As the ATP's calendar restructuring led to the discontinuation of the Atlanta Open, Eddie expressed pride in leaving behind a successful, well-loved event, even though it was a casualty of the tour's evolution.- **Personal Life**: Eddie shared personal insights, such as his daughter's career as a social media influencer and his son being drafted into professional baseball. He enjoys supporting their careers and traveling with them.Notable Quotes from Eddie Gonzalez:1. **On building the Atlanta Open**: - "You want to leave things better than you found them, and I'm very proud of the 10 years of building it every year to be bigger and better."2. **On the tournament experience**: - "Our philosophy was to create a party where a tennis match breaks out. We knew we weren't going to get Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic, so we had to make it about the experience."3. **On aging and tennis**: - "You don't stop playing tennis because you get old, you get old because you stop playing tennis."4. **On fostering young American talent**: - "It's rewarding to see young Americans like Taylor Fritz and Chris Eubanks who got their first shots in Atlanta. That's the future of American tennis."5. **On maintaining composure**: - "We ran the tournament like ducks on a pond: calm on the surface but paddling furiously underneath."These highlights and quotes encapsulate Eddie's passion for tennis, leadership, and making a lasting impact on the sport in America.YouTube Replay: https://youtu.be/XVLUhdrlE8wShaun Boyce USPTA: shaun@tennisforchildren.comhttps://tennisforchildren.com/

It is a game that is all about resetting, pivoting, and battling your mind on the court. Christopher Eubanks shows us that during this year's Wimbledon Tournament. Wimbledon Tournament 2023 [06:34] 8 Lessons to learn from the game of tennis [09:43] I tell my daughters, friends, and family about my time playing competitive tennis. Here are the lessons that I still use off the court: Play one point at a time. Focus on where you are at the moment. You can't get to the “end of game handshake,” if you are still actively in the game. To win at life, you have to be gritty. Continue to get up over and over again. Adversity builds the success story. You can be down several points and still make a comeback. You always have an opportunity to be and do something different. Don't second guess yourself. Your attitude and perspective is everything. If you have a sucky attitude about the game or your life, that perspective is going to prevail throughout your day to day to fulfill the prophecy you've created for yourself. Your mind can win or lose your match for you. Go into every moment of adversity knowing you will win and see the other side. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Just because it's a loss on the scoreboard, doesn't mean it's a loss in life. Surround yourself with the right people. The right people will provide the wise counsel needed to keep you on the right path. Always be prepared to seize your moment and take action. You never know when your big win is around the corner. Hone in on your skills, so you don't have to hesitate in the moments curated for you to shine. Closing [20:35] Burnout and overwhelm may be a part of your everyday life, but it doesn't have to be! Here are five action steps that helped me crawl my way out of the weeds of life and into building the life I wanted and knew I deserved. This week I'm excited to welcome to the show a very exciting guest - animal, climate, and human rights activist and founder of APEX Advocacy Christopher “Soul” Eubanks. After discovering the horrors of animal exploitation, Soul became vegan, began doing community organising, and helped co-organise Atlanta's first-ever animal rights march. In 2021 Soul founded APEX Advocacy, a non-profit animal rights organisation that uses digital content creation and grassroots activism for animal advocacy. APEX Advocacy aims to increase the number of BIPOC individuals who participate in animal activism by empowering their activism, providing them professional and personal development, and building greater equity in the animal protection movement. Find out more about Christopher and APEX Advocacy here - https://www.apexadvocacy.org/ The PBN Podcast is hosted and produced by Robbie Lockie, edited by Phil Marriott and researched and scripted by Antonia Georgieva.

Madison Keys books her spot in the third round with a businesslike performance, while Christopher Eubanks scores the “biggest win” of his career to secure his place in the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time. Meanwhile, Mikael Ymer gets into another five-set tussle for the second day in a row but falls short after cooking Eugene in the opening set. Interview snippets from Keys' and Eubanks' pressers included.
With American players competing at the Big W in London, USTA Director, Player Development Martin Blackman tracks the preparation of up-and-coming pros in Florida and European warmup events. He proudly mentions four US players who now reside in the top 10: Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Among the Southerners he profiled include Taylor Townsend, Ben Shelton, Christopher Eubanks and Tommy Paul. USTA women's coach Jermaine Jenkins, Ga., zeros in on how to nurture high-level players with professional potential. Along with talking about his family - including brothers Jamere and Jackie, Jr. - from College Park, Georgia, he also described being the hitting partner of Venus Williams. We highlight junior Grace Stout, of Brentwood, Tennessee, and North Carolina Wesleyan's Albie Brice, the 2023 USA South Coach of the Year.
Sloane Stephens, Frances Tiafoe, Madison Keys, Ben Shelton and Christopher Eubanks all bagged impressive wins to book second-round spots. While George Loffhagen, Jasmine Paolini and Heather Watson put in decent efforts before falling at the first hurdle. Interview snippets from Stephens, Shelton and Eubanks pressers included.
Lucy and Eugene talk about what they've been up to, including applying for Wimbledon 2023 accreditation, interviewing Erick Mathelier (Furi Sports co-founder) and also touch on Wimbledon's decision to lift the ban on Russian and Belarusian players. Alycia Parks' stunned in Lyon beat top seed Caroline Garcia in the final to claim her biggest title to date (WTA 250). Since then she's been experimenting with her set-up – was working with Jarmere Jenkins during the Sunshine Double as well as strength and conditioning trainer Josh Evenden. Coco Gauff's been going along nicely – reached a few quarter-finals, won a couple doubles titles with Jessica Pegula too including Miami where Taylor Townsend and Leylah Fernandez were fellow finalists. Robin Montgomery secured her first win on the WTA Tour in Miami and then faced Madison Keys in the second round where she put up a good fight. Clervie Ngounoue won the prestigious girls' event in Indian Wells. Ngounoue also won the doubles event with partner Qavia Lopez. Arthur Fils is about to crack the top 100 after making back-to-back semi-finals at ATP 250 level – picked up some big wins en route including one over Stanislas Wawrinka. Young Frenchman is such a joy to watch. Christopher Eubanks was the story in Miami and is now a top 100 player for the first time after a career fortnight at the Masters 1000 event where he reached the quarter-finals after coming through qualifying. Was very emotional after the win that confirmed his place in top 100. Frances Tiafoe reached his first Masters 1000 semi-final in Indian Wells – didn't drop a set en route before going down 5-7, 6-7 to eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev. Jill Smoller also has him signing all the endorsement deals too and rightly so. Felix Auger-Aliassime, defending champ in Rotterdam, reached the quarters – lost to eventual champion Medvedev. Went on to reach the semis in Qatar the following week where he lost to Medvedev again who went on to win the tournament. Gael Monfils returned to the tour in the US after seven months away due to a foot injury. Lost in the first round in Indian Wells and was forced to retire from his first-round match in Miami due to a wrist injury. To close, we quickly preview clay-court events in Charleston, Houston, Estoril and Marrakech. Don't forget to subscribe and share your comments. #BlackSpinGlobal

Nezapomněli jsme však ani na turnajová překvapení, jakými byli například Sorana Cirstea či Christopher Eubanks. Přejeme příjemný poslech.

The final Grand Slam of the year did not disappoint. Frances Tiafoe made a historic run (Lucy has all the stats) to the semi-finals where he lost to eventual champion and world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in five exhilarating sets. Big Foe, now a top 20 player for the first time, chalked off impressive wins against 22-time major champion Rafael Nadal and Andrey Rublev en route and had the NBA and former First Lady Michelle Obama cheering him on. Coco Gauff reached the last eight in New York for the first time where she lost to in-form Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia. The American 18-year-old, now a top 10 player for the first time, outplayed compatriot Madison Keys in the third round and came through impressively against Zhang Shuai in round four. Lucy gives coach Diego Moyano his flowers. Serena, in her final match as a professional, lost to Australia's Alja Tomljanovic in an epic three-hour tussle. The 23-time Grand Slam champion had everyone believing after her incredible performance and three-set victory over second seed Anett Kontaveit in round two. The GOAT also played doubles with sister Venus for the first time in a long time in New York – they did lose in the first round but it was a very special night. Taylor Townsend and Caty McNally came up short in the women's doubles final, losing to seasoned campaigners Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in three sets. Our girl Taylor was rightly talking her ‘ish' after the match which left us all excited about her 2023 season. There are also notable mentions for qualifier Christopher Eubanks who reached the second round, Grand Slam debutant Ben Shelton who gave a good account of himself, and juniors Victoria Mboko, Clervie Ngounoue and Ranah Akua Stoiber who all made deep runs.
