Big Foe, now a top 20 player for the first time, chalked off impressive wins against 22-time major champion Rafael Nadal and Andrey Rublev en route and had the NBA and former First Lady Michelle Obama cheering him on. Coco Gauff reached the last eight in New York for the first time where she lost to in-form Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia. The American 18-year-old, now a top 10 player for the first time, outplayed compatriot Madison Keys in the third round and came through impressively against Zhang Shuai in round four. Lucy gives coach Diego Moyano his flowers. Serena, in her final match as a professional, lost to Australia's Alja Tomljanovic in an epic three-hour tussle. The 23-time Grand Slam champion had everyone believing after her incredible performance and three-set victory over second seed Anett Kontaveit in round two. The GOAT also played doubles with sister Venus for the first time in a long time in New York – they did lose in the first round but it was a very special night. Taylor Townsend and Caty McNally came up short in the women's doubles final, losing to seasoned campaigners Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in three sets. Our girl Taylor was rightly talking her ‘ish' after the match which left us all excited about her 2023 season. Willkommen zur neuen Ausgabe von Chip & Charge der ersten Ausgabe von den US Open 2022. Der erste Tag war zeitgleich auch der erste Teil der großen Serena Williams Show und bot darüber hinaus auch noch die ein oder andere Überraschung. Doch Andreas und Philipp beginnen natürlich mit Serena Williams und deren doch nicht letztem Match. Denn Williams konnte sich ziemlich souverän gegen Danka Kovinic durchsetzen. Das war zwar keine Leistung wie in der Blüte ihres Schaffens, doch Williams zeigte sich besser als in den letzten Wochen. Für sie geht es nun in der zweiten Runde gegen Anett Kontaveit. Die an Position 2 gesetzte Kontaveit gewann souverän gegen Jacqueline Christian. Die Überraschung des Tages bei den Damen war die Niederlage von Simona Halep gegen Daria Snigur. Halep tat sich sehr schwer mit dem flachen Spiel von Snigur und musste sich der jungen Ukrainerin in drei Sätzen beugen. Auch für Daria Kasatkina kam das Aus schon in der ersten Runde. Zwei faustdicke Überraschungen gab es bei den Herren. Denn sowohl Stefanos Tsitsipas als auch Taylor Fritz verloren schon zum Auftakt. Tsitsipas lag in seinem Match sogar schon mit 0:6 0:5 gegen Daniel Ehai Galan hinten. Zwar erarbeitete er sich noch mal einen Vorsprung im 4. Satz, doch letztlich verlor der hochgehandelte Tsitsipas mit 5:7 im vierten Durchgang. Die Niederlage von Taylor Fritz kam vielleicht sogar noch etwas überraschender. Denn Fritz verlor gegen seinen auf ATP-Ebene weitestgehend unerfahrenen Landsmann Brandon Holt. Der ist zwar ein erfolgreicher College Spieler und der Sohn von Tracy Austin, jedoch eigentlich nicht erfahren genug, um einen Spieler vom Kaliber Fritz bei den US Open zu schlagen. Souverän in die zweite Runde ist Daniil Medvedev eingezogen. Für Dominic Thiem kam hingegen das Aus in der 1. Runde gegen Pablo Carreno Busta. Medvedev früh gegen Kyrgios? Das Herrenfeld hat als Topgesetzten jedoch einen Altbekannten. Denn Daniil Medvedev hat das Turnier im letzten Jahr gewonnen und zwei Jahre zuvor das Finale erreicht. Er könnte schon recht früh auf Nick Kyrgios oder Roberto Bautista-Agut treffen. Auch im oberen Viertel befindet sich Felix Auger-Aliassime und der Montreal-Sieger Pablo Carreno-Busta. Auch zur oberen Hälfte gehören Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini und Taylor Fritz. Die unter Hälfte wird angeführt von Rafael Nadal, hinter dessen Form jedoch auch dass ein oder andere Fragezeichen steht. Kann er die fehlende Matchpraxis mit Erfahrung wettmachen? Zu den anderen Topgesetzten in seiner Hälfte der Auslosung gehören unter anderem Carlos Alcaraz, Marin Cilic und Cameron Norrie. Wie gut drauf ist Iga Swiatek? Bei den Damen ist die Sache wie gewohnt noch ein bisschen offener. Hier führt die beste Spielerin des Jahres das Tableau an. Doch wird Iga Swiatek einen Weg durch die Auslosung finden? Sie könnte schon recht früh auf Amanda Anisimova oder Jelena Ostapenko treffen. Auch in der oberen Hälfte sind die Siegerin aus dem letzten Jahr, Emma Raducanu, die zweifache Gewinnerin Naomi Osaka und die Wimbledon-Siegerin Naomi Osaka. Der Abschied von Serena Williams Weit unten im vierten Viertel ist Serena Williams zu finden. Sie könnte schon sehr früh auf die an 2 gesetzte Anett Kontaveit treffen. Doch davor muss Williams erstmal gegen Danka Kovinic gewinnen. Auch Simona Halep ist einer der großen Namen in der unteren Hälfte. Willkommen zur neuen Ausgabe von Chip & Charge dieses Mal unter anderem mit dem Turnier in Hamburg. Dort fand in diesem Jahr zum ersten Mal seit Jahrzehnten wieder ein kombiniertes Herren- und Damenturnier statt. Alcaraz verliert das Finale knapp Großer Star der Veranstaltung war dabei Carlos Alcaraz, der es auch bis ins Finale schaffte. Dort verlor er ein enges und spektakuläres Match gegen Lorenzo Musetti. Für den Italiener war es der erste große Titel seiner Karriere, während Alcaraz es knapp verpasste zum dritten Mal in dieser Saison ein 500-er Turner zu gewinnen. Alcaraz hatte schon vorher in der Woche einige enge Momente erwähnt, so zum Beispiel gegen Nicola Kuhn, als Alcaraz den Tiebreak des dritten Satzes brauchte, um letztlich zu gewinnen. Musetti bleibt nervenstark Auch Lorenzo Musetti hatte sich unter der Woche das ein oder andere Mal strecken müssen, um letztlich den Titel in Hamburg zu gewinnen. So gelangen ihm zum Beispiele Siege nacheinander gegen Alejandro Davidovich Fokina und Francisco Cerundolo. In der 1. Runde hatte er gar Matchbälle gegen Dusan Lajovic abwehren müssen. Für den an Platz 2 der Setzliste verzeichneten Andrey Rublev kam hingegen schon im Achtelfinale das Aus gegen Cerundolo. Bernarda Pera in Topform Bei den Damen in Hamburg ging der Titel an Bernarda Pera, die sich im Endspiel mit 6:2 6:4 gegen Annet Kontaveit durchsetzen konnte. Für Pera war es der zweite Titel in Folge. nachdem sie in der Vorwoche in Budapest hatte gewinnen können. Kontaveit hingegen zeigte Formfortschritte nachdem sie zuletzt länger an den Folgen einer Covid-Erkrankung zu kauen hatte. Die Wetranglisten-2. war hier mit einer Wildcard am Start gewesen. Im Viertelfinale hatte Kontaveit gegen Andrea Petkovic gewonnen, die jedoch wegen einer Verletzung im zweiten Satz aufgeben musste. Willkommen zur neuen Ausgabe von Chip & Charge dieses Mal mit der ersten Zusammenfassung aus Wimbledon. Das Herren-Draw komplett auseinandergefallen So viel ist passiert in den ersten beiden Tagen, dass sich Andreas und Philipp die Auslosungen noch mal in Gänze anschauen. Während Novak Djokovic und Rafael Nadal weitestgehend problemlos in die zweite Runde einzogen, erwischte es die meisten der Favoriten aus der zweiten Reihe. Matteo Berrettini und Marin Cilic konnten auf Grund von Covid gar nicht erst antreten. Hubert Hurkacz und Felix Auger-Aliassime hingegen verloren gegen schwierige Auftaktgegner. Während für Hurkacz das Ende gegen Alejando Davidovich Fokina kam, verlor Auger-Aliassime gegen Maxime Cressy. Auch Nick Kyrgios, Denis Shapovalov, Carlos Alcaraz und Stefanos Tsitsipas taten sich schwer. So sind Djokovic und Nadal wohl noch mehr favorisiert als ohnehin schon. Und die Chance ist recht hoch, dass wir darüber hinaus noch zwei Überraschungshalbfinalisten erleben werden. Etwas weniger Aderlass bei den Frauen Bei den Damen hatte zumindest Covid bisher keinen großen Einfluss auf die Auslosung. Doch auch hier ist das Tableau in Schwung gekommen. Wenig Probleme hatte Iga Swiatek, die ihren 36. Sieg in Serie einfahren konnte. Auch Simona Halep konnte klar gegen eine potentiell schwere Gegnerin gewinnen. Sie ließ Karolina Muchova beim 6:3 6:2 wenig Chancen. Coco Gauff hingegen entging nur ganz knapp einer überraschenden Niederlage gegen Elena Gabriele Ruse. Für die an 7 gesetzte Danielle Collins kam das Aus schon in der ersten Runde. Auch Camila Giorgi musste zum Auftakt die Segel streichen. Emma Raducanu konnte sich trotz der Verletzungsprobleme der letzten Wochen gegen Alison van Uytvanck durchsetzen. Für Angelique Kerber könnte es immer noch zum Duell mit Ona Jabeur in der vierten Runde kommen und Annet Kontaveit konnte sich in der ersten Runde gegen Bernada Pera durchsetzen. Sie trifft nun auf Jule Niemeier. Vorbei ist das Turnier hingegen schon für Belinda Bencic. Sie schied in drei Sätzen gegen Wang Qiang aus. Durch den Ausschluss russischer und belarussischer Spielerinnen und Spieler und dem darauffolgenden Entzug der Weltranglistenpunkte findet Wimbledon in diesem Jahr unter anderen Voraussetzungen statt. Iga Swiatek, die Rasen-Unbekannte Das Damenfeld wird von der French Open Siegerin Iga Swiatek angeführt. Sie könnte in der vierten Runde auf Barbora Krejcikova treffen, wobei die ja gerade erst von einer längeren Verletzungspause zurückkehrt. In Swiateks Viertel finden sich auch noch Namen wie Garbine Muguruza, Binaca Andreescu und Jessica Pegula. Das offene zweite Viertel wird von Karolina Pliskova und Paula Badosa angeführt. Doch der Name auf den alle achten werden ist Serena Williams. Die könnte in der dritten Runde auf Pliskova treffen und danach zum Beispiel auf Coco Gauff. Angelique Kerber gehört in der unteren Hälfte zu den besten Rasenspielerinnen, für sie könnte es im Achtelfinale gegen die Berlin-Siegerin Ons Jabeur gehen. Auch Belinda Bencic und Annet Kontaveit finden sich hier. Djokovic der Topfavorit Der Favorit bei den Herren ist Novak Djokovic, der Dauersieger der letzten Jahre an der Church Road. Djokovic könnte im Viertelfinale auf Carlos Alcaraz treffen. Auch Andy Murray, Jannik Sinner und Oscar Otte befinden sich im Viertel des Weltranglisten-3. Der Halbfinalgegner von Djokovic könnte Hubert Hurkacz sein. Der Halle-Sieger ist hier an 7 gesetzt und auch wenn er eine durchaus fordernde Auslosung in der ersten Runde hat, so ist Hurkacz doch der Favorit, ins Halbfinale einzuziehen. Die untere Hälfte wird von Matteo Berrettini und Rafael Nadal angeführt. Während bei Nadal nicht ganz klar ist wie es um die Gesundheit des French Open Siegers steht, hat Berrettini zwei Vorbereitungsturniere gewonnen. In seinem dritten Viertel finden sich unter anderem noch Denis Shapovalov, Stefanos Tsitispas und Nick Kyrgios. Willkommen zur neuen Ausgabe von Chip & Charge dieses Mal mit der ersten Sendung von den French Open 2022. Titelverteidigerin raus - Kerber mit großem Kampf Besonders viel los war in den ersten beiden Tagen bei den Damen. Hier musste sich schon einige der gesetzten Spielerinnen verabschieden. Für Barbora Krejcikova kam nach gut drei Monaten Verletzungspause schon das Aus in der ersten Runde. Sie verlor gegen Diane Parry. Der Titelverteidigerin war die fehlende Matchpraxis anzusehen. Auch für die (Geheim-)favoritin Ons Jabeur war schon zum Auftakt Schluss. Sie verlor ein enges Match gegen Magda Linette. Ebenso verabschieden mussten sich Anett Kontaveit und Garbine Muguruza. Ganz souverän setzte sich hingegen Iga Swiatek durch und auch Bianca Andreescu gewann nach Holperstart noch mit 6:0 im dritten Satz. Angelique Kerber spielte am Montagabend eines der stimmungsvollsten Matches, gewann nach dem Abwehren von Matchbällen noch mit 7:5 im dritten Satz gegen Magdalena Frech. Auch bei Emma Raducanu gegen Linda Noskova war einiges los. Am Ende setzte sich Raducanu gegen die Juniorinnen-Siegerin der letzjährigen French Open in drei Sätzen durch. Bei den Herren setzen sich die Favoriten durch Bei den Herren sind die großen Überraschungen in den ersten beiden Tagen ausgeblieben. Weder Novak Djokovic, noch Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal oder Alexander Zverev taten sich zum Auftakt schwer. Sie alle zogen ohne Satzverlust in die zweite Runde ein. Felix Auger-Aliassime musste sich durch fünf Sätze manövrieren, gewann am Ende jedoch ebenfalls. Das frühe Ende kam hingegen für Stan Wawrinka. Der Schweizer verlor in vier Sätzen gegen Corentin Moutet. Der Franzose ließ Wawrinka dabei viel laufen. Auch für Alejandro Davidovic Fokina war schon in der ersten Runde Schluss. Er verlor gegen Tallon Griekspoor. Noch kein Match in dieser Sandplatzsaison hat Dominc Thiem verloren. Gegen Hugo Dellien zeigten sich wieder seine momentanen Schwächen nach dem Comeback, vor allem mit der Vorhand. Thiem zog im Anschluss sogar in Erwähnung, erst Mal ein paar Matches auf der Challenger Tour zu spielen.
