Happy summer. I am so excited that you're here, tuning in today. Welcome. Welcome to any new listeners. Hi, thank you for joining me and to my old listeners or I guess it wouldn't be old the podcast is about a year old but to my listeners who download every week, I'm so grateful to have you listening today. And if you're listening to this podcast, you're probably a high-achieving type A mom, exhausted struggling with exhaustion, maybe even on the verge of burnout you've checked all the boxes of success but you're not happy. But I got to tell you, you don't have to feel exhausted anymore. Imagine a life with no more burnout with even a better marriage. Last week, one of my clients actually told me so amazing, one of her most unexpected results that she had was improving her marriage. And she basically told me She was on the verge of a clinical depression, prior to working with me, and now she truly is in such a better place, so much more grounded, finding inner peace. And of course, in a much better place in her marriage. How wonderful. And I actually was so thrilled to hear that. So, you too, like that client, like me can be out of burn, out of exhaustion, and into peace with a little work in 90 days or less, you can be out of burnout. Today, I want to talk about a really kind of fun topic because it is Summer and the summers are fun. And I am in a really, I'm in this segment of my life where I am learning to get back to the person that I was. I think probably before I had children, like really reconnecting with that person. And she had an element of carefreeness and fun. So, I am in the mode of enjoying this life enjoying the days more than ever. So, what I'm going to mention or what we're going to focus on today is Dreaming. Dreams and you can make all your dreams come true. You may think I'm sounding like a Disney fairy tale right now, but I'm not, okay, because dreams are really something that we are told, were conditioned, were taught to not think big to not dream big, and it really holds us back all big thoughts, ideas, inventions, all of it, it starts with an idea and a dream and of course, people want to prepare themselves for the worst, right? Because we all are trying to keep ourselves safe. We want to prepare for the worst-case scenario and we really don't gain anything from that, right? Because if the worst does happen, we are going to be able to deal with it whether or not we you know had a plan for it whether or not we catastrophize whether or not we felt anxious about it and you know we're spinning out with a plan. It really doesn't make it any better. So, it's actually better to just kind of assume the best in and enjoy your day because if shit hits the fan you will deal with it. Believe me. So, with that in mind, let's think about dreaming and assuming that we can make our dreams come true. Assuming the best because this creates a positive energy and that energy that we can create within ourselves. It is palpable and other people can feel it and then they're going to feed off it. And then we're gonna have this ripple effect which is So amazing with our family with our friends. And that is the beauty of this work. And actually, as I'm talking about it, I am getting full-body chills because this really is the power of coaching. You might be thinking, what is she talking about? And I'm going to elucidate, I'm going to walk you through an exercise of your own. Before we do that, I'm going to give you some examples of dreams that I have made come true in my life. So, I had adream a being a mother and I knew I wanted to be a mother starting at the age of six. When my younger sister was born and I loved babies, and I love taking care of her and I would, she was premature. So, I would supplement her formula bottles with iron, I remember making her bottles as a six-year-old, okay. So that was a dream from the age of 6. I knew I was going to be a mom and then came the dream of wanting to be a doctor. And I've talked about this in the past. I think you might be able to hear my children in the background. It's their bath time. My lovely, lovely au pair is taking care of them as we speak so that I can record this podcast. I was going to do it after they went to bed, but I've had a long day and I just would like to record it while I'm still got some energy in me because you don't want to be listening to a tire boring person, right? So yes, so I had adream of going to med school and you may have listened to my story in the past. I mentioned I'm podcast before. Our episodes before, but it took me three years to actually do that after graduating from undergrad because my application just wasn't where it needed to be to apply to a U.S. med school, which can be really competitive. As I'm sure, you know, and I was told by my college counselor that you know, I didn't have a good chance of getting in and I basically put my mind to it and I made it happen, I made it come true. So, I know that I can make my dreams come true I made those dreams come true. I wanted to have a daughter and that dream also came true for me. I had a dream wedding the wedding, my wedding was literally the wedding of my dreams. It was the most beautiful, stunning, just fun, everything I wanted to be and more. I created that I have had dreams and goals of wind. Go to certain countries like Thailand the Philippines, I've traveled there. I've made those dreams come true and the list really goes on, okay, these are just examples of dreams and maybe some of them seem normal to you, but a lot of these dreams going to medical school, having a baby, they're not a given. They take vision, they take work and I made them come true. Which brings me to What are your dreams that you made come true? Pause this and even if you're driving brainstorm a list in your head. If you can if it's not safe to it later. But what are some dreams? What are some things that you wanted to achieve when you were young? And now they've happened? And now we take them for granted. Now, they're a given what are the givens in your life that you wanted so badly? At a certain point when you didn't have them? I bet you can come up with a list of five to ten things of past dreams, that you made come true. So, make that list, okay? And once you have that list because I just listed a bunch of dreams that I made come true and I know you have a bunch to so who is to say that we can't make more. No one that's who okay, don't let anyone ever? Crush your dreams for you. And if they're crushing them, you don't share your dreams with those people. Hold your dreams, tightly to yourself. I'm getting a little bit ahead of the game, because I forgot to mention the part where after we reflect on all the dreams, we've made come true so far. Now, we get to create new ones. Here we are, right? We are mothers, we've got booming careers, maybe we aren't. Enjoying life. Maybe there are things that were putting off. What are those things? What's on the list? What are dreams that we want for the future? And this is so much fun brainstorming, allowing your brain allowing yourself to come up with possibilities. Of things you want in your life because I promise you, you can create whatever you want. You just have to decide to do it and it may not happen on your timeline. I'll tell you that. That is true. But once we create that list and that vision, then we can start taking action to make those dreams come true. You can even take a few minutes a day once have your list. I would pick at least three to five dreams that you want to come true. Write them down. And then every day. Either before bed or maybe in the morning, really visualize what those dreams would look like once they've come true. And who would you be when you like when you get there? Who is that person? Who has achieved that dream? How does she feel? And really lean into the vision of that person. The feeling that she has. I'm assuming I'm guessing she is empowered; she feels powerful. So, let's create that we get to cultivate that state of mind. We have the choice. We have the power to create whatever we want. So, let's really get into our little manifestation mode. It was just so much fun, and we get to brainstorm our dreams. Think about what that would look like, feel how we would feel once we have that dream. And really spend a few minutes a day doing that. And of course, we also get to take action to make these dreams come true because without the action, we're not going to get the results. Okay? So that is my fun. Let's dream episode for you because I think we're a little too. We take life too, seriously sometimes. We let getting older the pressures of life steal the magic, The magic that we felt as children when anything was possible. So why not believe that? Anything is possible. Now let's get fucking to it. Awareness is a superpower. The reason why I believe awareness is a superpower is because it has the power to change lives. The more aware you are about your emotions and actions, the better you understand the reasoning behind the things you do. And that's usually the first step to achieving success in life. However, becoming more aware of your surroundings and who you are requires a little experimentation.
Are you burdened by negative thoughts? Maybe your harsh inner critic is always intent on crushing your confidence, or perhaps your days are filled with self-criticism, worry, stress, anxiety, or depression. If that description is anything like you, then you probably know how overwhelming negative thinking can be.
Your mind is like a garden. You are responsible for everything that grows in it. Your thoughts are seeds, and whatever you plant will grow. This means that looking after your mental and spiritual well-being is like planting good seeds and pulling out the weeds. Good seeds are positive thoughts. Weeds, on the other hand, are negative thoughts. When I first began to realize the power of storytelling, I was reading the book, “Talk like TED”. The book focused on some of the most powerful TED talks ever given and what made them so moving for so many people. Over and over, the author found that the story the speaker shared was the secret sauce. Now I hear people's stories on a daily basis. I hear them tell stories of suffering and sadness. And I work to help them bring forth the story of resilience and empowerment that lays beneath the suffering. I know that when you become aware of the story you tell yourself and others about you, you begin to see the result that story creates…the life you're living. In this episode, I'll share a powerful experience I had listening to survivor stories and what it meant to me and to others in the room. Primack settled on becoming a physician, researcher, and administrator. He is currently the incoming Dean of the College of Public Health and Health Sciences at Oregon State University, where he leads over 2000 undergraduate and graduate students and 200 faculty and staff members. Before this he was Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas and the Dean of the Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh. His primary research area involves the effect of media and technology on health—both positive and negative. He has over 250 publications, and his findings have been reported in news sources such as NPR, the New York Times, Cosmopolitan Magazine, US News and World Report, the BBC, and many more. He is the recent recipient of multiple regional, national, and international awards for research, teaching, and overall achievement. After graduating Yale University magna cum laude in 1991 with degrees in English and Mathematics, Dr. Primack spent 4 years teaching adolescents and studying human development for his master's degree, which he received from Harvard University. He subsequently graduated first in his class and summa cum laude from Emory Medical School and trained in Family Medicine in Pittsburgh.

After washing the dinner dishes one night, I laid on the couch for a rest and started to scroll on my phone. You know, how most people do. However, on this night, restlessness was creeping up hard and the inner voice inside of me became so loud and impossible to ignore. It was telling her that despite having just cooked dinner for my son and I, cleaning up, and after working all day at my 9 to 5, despite all of that, it was TIME to get to work on my dreams and goals. That inner voice used to be a whisper. It was easy to push down, to ignore. I could pour a glass of wine, watch Netflix, and even do productive night time things. As time passed though, that inner voice became louder and louder. Then, one day this thought popped in my head: “I don't want to be the woman that quits.”"I don't want to be that woman who quits." That resonated within my mind. Not only do I not want to be that woman who quits, but I don't want to be the one who quits for… a nap? A glass of wine? A tv show? When I'm 70, I will not look back and think, "well, I could have lived that life of my dreams, but I was tired. I really wanted a glass of wine and to watch Netflix. So, I quit."OMFG. HELLLLL NO. So, I rolled up my sleeves, sat down and I faced my work. Not the laundry, or the 9-5. No, I sat down and got to work on my passion. My dreams. My big goals. I took the next step. I continue to do this week after week. You have a dream. We all do. Whether you are ready to admit or not, you have one. How many times have you taken a step or two, stopped and quit? How frustrating is this? Ever person has faced this. This is a universal experience. You can relax and give yourself grace. Let go of the guilt for quitting in the past. You quit because of fear and resistance.How can you persevere, and make progress on your goals and dreams, and create that intentional life in the face of resistance?At the end of the day, what you need to do is to be very strategic about the input you allow into your mind. What books are you listening to? What are you reading? What media are you consuming? Who are you interacting with? How are you evolving?When I first noticed that inner voice inside nudging me to go after something bigger, it was a whisper. It was easy to silence through the endless distractions of every day life. However, I knew I yearned for something more. So, I thought, "how can I train my mind to stay focused?" I began to take walks and listen to audiobooks. Daily. I also read books after work or on breaks throughout the day. I was spending tons of time reading and listening, maybe 1-2 hours per day. This made a massive difference because I became so self-aware of my own thoughts, mindset and development. I truly began to become the observer of my own thoughts. 4 Steps to Take to Move Past Fear & Resistance and Take Consistent Action1. Immediately unfollow all accounts on social media that do not spark joy. These can be people, businesses, brands, news sites, etc. Unfollow them all. 2. Start listening to audiobooks if you don't already. Listen to them while you do other things, such as driving, cooking, cleaning, walking etc. 3. Read The War of Art by Steven Pressfield4. Incorporate a daily mindset practice such as journaling or meditation to become more aware of your thoughts. Bonus if you do both. Truly understand that all of the temptations and distractions that you have to do something other than what your heart TRULY years and desires, to create your dream life, are all forms of resistance and fear. It is your job to understand this, recognize this when it's happening, and move through it. Do your work anyway.You have to! What is the alternative? “It doesn't do to dwell on dreams” says Dumbledore At first when I heard this quote I thought it was the same old warning us dreamers get... That isn't possible. Get your head out of the clouds. A Facebook Post About How To Create Your Dreams There are moments in our lives when someone succinctly verbalizes our beliefs and understanding in a clear and perfect fashion, and we say “Yes! That is exactly what I have come to know,” or “Yes, that is exactly what I think.” This happened to me this week. My son is on an LDS mission where he is out serving others and teaching them about Christ. While he is doing this he has very limited contact with family. Once a week the missionaries get a chance to write home, but other than that they stay focused on their work. Recently, the LDS church allowed the missionaries to have Facebook pages where they post inspiring messages and thoughts. It’s a real treat when I’m on Facebook and something pops up from my son, but today was especially interesting because his words were the exact encapsulation of everything I had been working on over the last year. Here is his post: “A thought I had recently was that if we allow them, dreams can be so much more than just happy thoughts and wishful thinking. They can be more than pleasant imaginings left for a world more perfect than this. If we let it, the act of dreaming and then working with determination and courage can be one of the most powerful demonstrations of faith possible to man. As we team up with the Lord and “do many things of [our] own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness” (D&C [58:27]) then, by the grace of God, will we be able to develop the competency and ability we need to steadily overcome the obstacles we find that are placed in our way. As we grow to trust the promise that “all things are possible to him that believeth” (Mark [9:23]) the Lord will enable us according to the faith that we exercise in him, and we may achieve that which we have determined to be our goal. So dream big, work hard, trust much, and then enjoy watching the miracles come to pass.” That’s the end of his post. When I read that my first thought was, “Yay! – I needed to read that today, all of my daily struggle put into such a clear and organized paragraph.” My second thought was, “I wondered if he really knew what that meant. I have been working on this for the last year, and I’m still working with it every day, how does he just suddenly have this thought and ‘bam’ there it all is.” Maybe I’m a little slower than my son, but let me share my journey – that I’m still on, by the way – of coming to understand and live this principle. And I share it, because it may serve as a model of how to make your dreams happen. “Dreams can be more than just a wish or a happy thought” – When I was in my early 20’s I had a conversation with God. I wanted three things more than anything in my life, and I felt like, in this particular conversation, that I’d been given the right to ask for them. The first was that I would have an extraordinary relationship and connection with the right man. That I’d have a husband who was my other half – the right fit. The right guy. The second was that my children would be watched over, protected and upheld. The third was that I would be able to use my talents, gifts, and abilities to give back to the world, to create something that would inspire and lift other people.
