2 Big Obstacles to Gaining Lean Muscle and Fat Loss After 40

Chances are if you tuned into this based on the title you're not exactly where you want to be right now. Fat loss after 40 could be a challenge in spite of your best effort. Gaining lean muscle could feel like it's slipping through your fingers. To those regular listeners who are here no matter what, I thank you too, even if you're not necessarily dealing with failed results, maybe you're loving life right now! Someone you know may be and you can help them understand it is my hope from this episode. Spoiler alert, I'm going to tell you the two most common endocrine-related reasons right up front. And, there's more to the story. Because just knowing isn't enough. One, most of us when we do know what to do have to overcome habit gravity and decades of dogma about the messages you've been given. But for you listener, it's possible that you have limiting beliefs acquired simply by living and being subject to the environment you were. You may be listening and have always worked hard and believe hard and more is the answer. Or… You may be under the impression, “girls don't run” or lift, or fear injury from exercise. Ironic, that we can have grown up in the same era but have such diverse beliefs but I've found working with women over 40 for 4 decades, there is definitely a wide continuum of belief about exercise success. That… if you're willing or open… can change. We all harbor some limiting beliefs. Once we recognize them we can still hold onto them. Why Gaining Lean and Fat Loss After 40 are More Challenging Too little anabolic hormone influence Too much catabolic hormone influence (by exercise, nutrition and lifestyle habits) Questions We Answer in this Episode: What are the biggest obstacles to fat loss after 40? [00:14:30] Why do we hear this and struggle to implement it? [00:17:20] How do you know which you might be doing? [00:25:40] How do you deal with prior injury and fear of reinjury? [00:29:40] What makes you more prone to struggle with fat loss after 40? [00:21:20] These alone are not the problem... Anabolic hormones include: Estrogen Testosterone Growth Hormone Insulin (to a small extent) Catabolic hormones include: Cortisol Insulin Let's look at the physiology of menopause. Hormonal Shifts: Estrogen, testosterone, and growth hormone decrease related to your age and lifestyle habits than menopause alone. Collectively though those three hormones can make or break your progress. Insulin's Role: While insulin helps regulate blood sugar, too much can lead to fat storage, especially if muscles and the liver can't absorb it efficiently. Liver Health: A liver overloaded with toxins or processed foods may struggle to support metabolism and hormone function. Muscle: If you have little muscle and don't move regularly, your body has limited capacity to store glycogen (which insulin uses to lower blood sugar) and is instead stored as fat. Cortisol and Stress: This stress hormone can break down muscle and increase fat storage. Prolonged exercise elevates cortisol, while short, intense workouts raise it temporarily but allow it to drop post-workout. Exercise Balance: Overdoing endurance activities might increase fat storage. Finding balance in your workouts is key. Strength Training: Essential for maintaining muscle mass and bone density, strength training should complement other activities like Pilates or yoga. I have a very special offer for you. If you are interested in working with me, but you would like to talk to me first, click on the link in the show notes. And we'll get in touch and we'll set something up.  BOOK A CALL WITH PETER We're going to talk about the two energies of the actor.  We're going to be talking about anabolic energy and catabolic energy.  But first, what we're going to be talking about Is the term consciousness. So what is the term consciousness? The term consciousness is your awareness of who you really are, as opposed to the you that you believe you are, and we're taught that you are. Now, here's the thing. Who you really are is pure anabolic energy. Who you think you are or believe you are, or were taught that you are, or all of the above, has a bit of catabolic energy in it, which means it's energy that works against you.  So what we're gonna be talking about today is these two energies and how you can stay more in your catabolic energy than your anabolic energy.  Let's get into the definitions of catabolic energy. Catabolic energy is isolated. It's lonely. You need everything outside of you to validate yourself. The world is scary, and it's angry. And this is the biggest thing to know as an actor, you have a very low chance of success. You're working unconsciously, and you have very little faith in yourself or in the Universe. And then there is the wonderful energy of anabolic energy. Now, anabolic energy is like mind over so-called reality.  It's when you're seeing that things around you at the moment, things aren't going well, but you know these truths.  One, this too shall pass.  And two, everything I'm seeing now is only preparation for more good to come.  In this energy, you have real energy. You have a real awareness. You have, and this is so key, faith in yourself, but also a faith in the Universe.  This is where you live and where you have high potential.  You also have a high level of success.  You live more consciously and this is who you are, whether you believe it or not.  Ananias Nin says that “we do not see the world as it is, we see it as we are,” meaning that I see the world either with anabolic eyes or catabolic eyes.  And quantum physics has shown us that the world is a creation of our perceptions.  So if we want to create more enjoyable life experiences, we want to focus on that anabolic energy, and that's why gratitude is so important. The more we point out what we are grateful for, the more we will bring into our lives again, like energy attracts like energy. I also want to mention that one of the ways we can move into more anabolic energy is to really change how we speak because changing our language changes our reality.  And I'm going to show you this in terms of anabolic and catabolic energy.  Language or words orient our thoughts and our feelings. And I talk a lot about how we have a thought that then becomes an emotion and that emotion then dictates an action and then that action reiterates the thought.  So I am good enough, I feel good about me, I go to my auditions, I do a great job, see me, I am good enough.  Now, notice how I used a real anabolic example there. Words and the intention or the emotion, which are truly the fuel behind them, are either catabolic or anabolic.  And they convey a lot. underlying messages to our energy.  And what that does is that creates a physical, an emotional, a mental and a spiritual response, not only in ourselves, but in others. So what I'm going to do right now is I'm going to give you examples of anabolic and catabolic language choices.  And we're gonna look at that.  So if you are in catabolic, that lonely, isolating negative energy, the words you may use are, should, or might. Now, the anabolic response or the anecdote to that would be I choose, I desire, I want. Again, another example. The catabolic word choice would be, I need to.  The anabolic word choice would be, It's important to me. It's important to me that I do this thing. Not that I need to do this thing, but it's important to me.  The catabolic word choice on the next one is, I have to. I have to. I have to. I have to all over the place. Like I should all over myself? I have to all over myself.  And the, again, the anecdote to that is I desire to. I desire to, I choose to, I desire to.  Another catabolic word choice is can't. Instead, maybe you're just not willing to. Or I'm choosing not to, but I can't is unconscious. I choose to is conscious and therefore anabolic. I always, never, those are catabolic word choices.  The anecdote to those are, I sometimes, I often, I seldom.  The next one must. Ooh, catabolic word choice there. Must. As opposed to, I choose. I desire, again, making your words more conscious so they are in that anabolic energy.  Try. Oh my God. How many times have I said try? What about saying the anabolic word choice of I intend to or I aim to?  And this one, this is such an improv actor one, which is the catabolic word choices, “but.” How about “and?” And is your anabolic word choice.  Maybe is catabolic, yes I will or no I won't is anabolic. For goodness sakes, make a decision. And finally, I think. Oh, catabolic right there.  How about I know, or I don't know. Be decisive with your words.  Again, remember these words, whether you choose anabolic words or catabolic words have an effect on you, but also on other people, and that means agents, managers, casting directors, writers, directors, producers. I want to be someone who an agent, a casting director, a director, a producer wants to have in a room, wants to have on set, because I give off that positive energy.  Finally, I want you to remember that catabolic energy is disempowering. It is taking away my power. It is me giving away my power. And ultimately, it tears me down. It tears me down.  But anabolic energy is powerful. Anabolic language is centered. It is grounded. It is responsible. It is powerful. It is healthy. And I love this word. It is empowering. It builds us up. It heals us. And it helps us to believe in ourselves and in our power.  Remember, the only constant is change. And I want to make sure that we are changing towards anabolic energy.

Weekly Accountability Group Creating effective change as an actor.  I'm going to be talking about real coaching principles. Change can be scary and many people see a benefit in it. In not making change because the payoff is that they don't have to take action and they don't need to face the unknown. And that is a concept that I'm really going to be drilling into in this podcast, which is what is the payoff?  What I want you to do is I want you to write down  What am I not doing in my acting career right now?  So what should you be doing that you're not doing?  Now usually I don't want you to should, but for this exercise I want you to because I want you to then write it out for me.  And then ask yourself, what is the payoff?  What's the payoff for you not doing it?  And a lot of the time, the payoff is then I don't have to do anything. Meaning you don't have to take responsibility.  And also, you don't have to face the unknown. You don't have to face the rejection.  You don't have to feel like an imposter.  The fact is, you're never an imposter. You're just a human being.  You're just as, you're just as entitled to be on this earth as all the rest of us. I also think that by not taking action, you keep yourself in that cage.  Catabolic energy of victim, and when we are in victim, we are stating that we are helpless, hopeless, and I don't know what to do next.  I want you to ask yourself, what is the payoff for you not taking action? Your acting career, what is the payoff?  Because what we're trying to do here is we're journaling this little bit of work here to make real effective transformational change in our careers.  What is the payoff for staying just where I am right now?  Because this is the truth. The truth is that not taking action is actually taking an action.  Not taking action in your acting career is actually taking an action.  Just as not making a decision is actually deciding not to choose. Yeah. I know. If you feel like you want to vomit in your mouth just a little bit, I am sure you are not alone. When I was asked the question, what is the payoff for your anxiety attacks?  I wanted to smash that answer. I wanted to take my fist and insert it into the left cheek of my life coach because I was like, how dare you ask me that question? But oh my goodness, am I glad she did.  This is the thing, actors say they want to change. They say they want to have a working career.  They say that is what they really want in their lives, but yet they still stay stuck.  The whole thing here is, how do we get you unstuck?  The only way to make effective change, the only way to make effective change, is to focus on the benefits of the change, not on the challenge of making the change. So now I want you to think about all those things that you put in the beginning there about, I really should be doing this and I really should be doing that.  And I want you to ask yourself this question: how will I feel once I've done those things? How will I feel?  And then I want you to add the emotion to it. The emotion, because emotion is the fuel.  We can lay those logs on the fire, but when we put that kerosene on it and we light the match, kaboom.  I want you to focus on how you feel when you get that done.  Again, the only way to make effective change is to focus on the benefits of what you will feel, of what you will feel you have accomplished, of the self esteem you will have gained by doing what you said you were going to do, not on the challenge of actually, ugh, doing it. The best way to do this is to tie your values into your desired outcomes, to show you that this is what you really want and why you really want it.  Let's talk about values for a second and how they can help us to create effective change.  alues are the principles that people live by. The things that make them tick and drive them. And there are two types of values. There are fear based values.  If I don't earn some money, I'm not going to be able to make my rent. If I don't make my rent, I'm not going to have a place to live. That's a fear based value.  And then there's a conscious based value. This is what I want my life to look like. This is what I want my acting career to look like.  Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to align my thoughts and my actions to that goal.  Because I know I can, if I do that, then I will achieve it.  And gosh darn it, I know that's what I really want.  Now fear based values are the ones that cause you to take action or not take action to avoid something. I call them the have to's. I have to do this. All right, yeah, I have to, the have tos.  But conscious based values, they allow you to take action because they are want tos. I'm doing this because I want to. I want to feel good so I exercise. I want to. I want to do that. I want to go to acting class because I want to become a better actor. Because I want to be a working actor.  You can choose from passion, or you can choose from fear.  And you, the thing is that sometimes we do that consciously and we don't and sometimes we do it unconsciously.  So therefore, we want to be aware.  One of the things I actually just talked about in my weekly coaching group is this idea of awareness, acceptance, and action. First we need to become aware.  So I give exercises to become aware.  I give exercises to accept where we are at and then I give exercises to take action.  So here I'm going to give you some empowering questions for helping you to find your values. And then we're gonna again bring it back to that effective change. I want you to think about a time when life or your acting career was really good, and what was the value that was being expressed or honored?  What was in sync with you?  What did you feel you were doing well?  And how does that express who you are?  How does that express who you are?  So again, think of a time when your acting career was really good. What value was being expressed or honored?  Also, think about a time in your acting career when you were really upset. What was being challenged? What didn't you like about that? How did it feel? What was going on?  Then I want you to ask yourself, when do you compromise your values?  And why do you compromise your values?  I'll tell you a time when I compromise my values. When I get a case of the I don't want to's. When I get a case of the I don't want to's, then I'm not so strong,  I'm not so funny, I'm not so sweet, and I'm not so elegant. I'm just lazy. And if it's really not in a good place, I'm feeling really helpless.  And that's never a good place. In fact, feeling helpless is dangerous. This is the thing, when you do the core work, when you do this work on yourself as an actor, if you visit that place called helpless, called a victim, you can get yourself out real quick. And then finally, I'm going to ask you a question that is probably the best question anybody can ever ask someone: think about what you must experience in life. What must you experience in your one grand life that you have? What must you experience and why is that so important for you? Again, change can be scary and many people see a benefit in not making change.  But what is the payoff and what is the cost for not doing the things that you need to be doing, the thoughts that you need to be thinking, to do that thing that you must experience?  I encourage you listen to this podcast again, really write out my questions, really journal on them and get to know yourself better.

Eating in a calorie deficit will allow you to lose weight but there's a caveat... If the body were as simple as most make it out to be on social media, eating little calories would result in weight loss every time right? The body is smarter than this and its primary job is keeping us alive.  This is where our hormones come into play and why weight loss is more complicated than most people think especially SUSTAINED weight loss. What is the primary hormone that plays a huge role in our ability to burn fat? Cortisol. Cortisol directly impacts fat storage and fat burn. HOW? Cortisol is a catabolic hormone. Catabolic = opposite of anabolic (think anabolic steroids) and you're breaking down muscle tissue. Why does it break down muscle? It's using the stored glucose and amino acids in muscle to burn as fuel, especially if you are undereating No matter how much you train, you won't tone up, you'll actually look softer over the course of time, and eventually start to notice nagging pains, aches, and even injuries from training Less muscle = slower metabolism, this makes it easier to store fat. In today's episode, we're going to go in depth of why cortisol plays such a key factor in this process, what to do about it, and how you can learn from us in our FREE Women's Hormone & Metabolism Masterclass.  Time Stamps:  (1:42) Energy Is Supreme Today (4:02) Recent Discovery Call (6:58) What's Happening With Cortisol (14:30) Interrupting Sleep Patterns (18:51) Hunger Hormones (26:19) Our Live Masterclass---------------------Sign up for our FREE Women's Hormone & Metabolism Masterclass here: https://www.vanessapozos.com/hormonemasterclass---------------------Follow @vanessagfitness on Instagram for daily fitness tips & motivation. ---------------------Download Our FREE Metabolism-Boosting Workout Program---------------------Join the Women's Metabolism Secrets Facebook Community for 25+ videos teaching you how to start losing fat without hating your life!---------------------Click here to send me a message on Facebook and we'll see how I can help or what best free resources I can share!---------------------Interested in 1-on-1 Coaching with my team of Metabolism & Hormone Experts? Anabolism or Catabolism? Muscle Maintenance or Fat Loss? In this episode of the Muscles and Mindset podcast, obesity medicine expert and fitness guru, Dr. Ali Novitsky explores the intriguing topic of catabolic and anabolic weight loss. The discussion is centered on how to attain optimal body composition by balancing muscle maintenance and fat loss. Introduction to Catabolic and Anabolic States Catabolic State: Defined as the state of breaking down tissues, essential for fat loss. Common catabolic activities include being in a calorie deficit and engaging in endurance exercises. Anabolic State: This state involves building up tissues, crucial for muscle maintenance and growth. Key anabolic activities include consuming adequate protein and strength training. Balancing Both States: The aim is to find a balance between catabolic and anabolic states to maintain muscle mass while losing body fat. This balance is crucial for achieving optimal weight loss and body composition. Misconceptions in Diet Culture: Traditional "eat less, move more" advice often leads to a purely catabolic state, resulting in muscle loss. Some have been advised not to exercise to maintain a catabolic state, which is not ideal for long-term health and muscle maintenance. Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE): TDEE includes basal metabolic rate (BMR), non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT), exercise activity thermogenesis (EAT), and the thermic effect of food (TEF). Maintaining muscle mass increases BMR, which is essential for long-term fat loss. Exercise and Nutrition Strategies: Effective exercise strategies include high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to promote the afterburn effect (EPOC), aiding muscle rebuilding. A balanced nutrition approach, such as the one Dr. Novitsky advocates in her Mindful Macros program, is crucial. This involves a mild calorie deficit, adequate protein intake, and strength training. The Role of Insulin: Insulin, an anabolic hormone, is necessary for muscle maintenance. Different macronutrients impact insulin levels differently, with carbohydrates having the highest impact. Dietary Approaches: Ketogenic diets can lead to significant weight loss but may result in muscle loss if not properly managed. High carbohydrate diets can lead to fat gain if not balanced with adequate protein and exercise. Practical Application: Achieving optimal weight loss involves finding a mild calorie deficit, consuming adequate protein, and engaging in strength training. The Mindful Macros program assists clients in finding a balanced state between catabolic and anabolic processes for sustainable weight loss and muscle maintenance. In this episode, you will learn: The Role of Time and Resistance in Fundraising: I explore the common challenges in fundraising and acknowledge that scarcity of time can indeed be a real issue, but also that fundraising's discomfort often allows time to be used as an excuse for inaction. Fundraising as a Personal Experience: I argue that fundraising is deeply personal and often activates our nervous systems. I discuss how activities like rejection, managing up to supervisors, and continuously validating our worth can trigger our nervous system and evoke feelings of vulnerability. The Importance of Recognizing Emotions in Fundraising: I explain the importance of acknowledging the feelings triggered by fundraising and providing tools to handle self-doubt and imposter syndrome. I describe the phenomenon of the "gremlin" or self-critic and the protective role it plays in keeping us safe. The Seven Styles of Fundraising: I introduce the concept of the "seven styles of fundraising," a transformation of the seven styles of leadership identified in the Energy Leadership Index.  Harnessing Energy Levels for Effective Fundraising: I talk about the importance of harnessing different styles of fundraising and choosing how to show up in different fundraising situations. I explain how the energy infused in communication can alter interactions with donors and the success of fundraising activities. Transitioning from Catabolic to Anabolic Energy in Fundraising: I discuss the importance of supporting ourselves when our catabolic energy is activated and understanding how to down-regulate our nervous system to move into more anaerobic energy. The Role of Executive Coaching in Fundraising: I argue that fundraising should always incorporate executive coaching tools due to the prevalence of self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and perfectionism in fundraising. I mention how I teach to address thoughts and beliefs that might prevent action within my program, Power Partners. Today on The Girlfriend Doctor, we welcome Dr. Izabella Wentz to discuss her new book,  “Adrenal Transformational Protocol”.  After her diagnosis with Hashimoto's disease, she created an easy path to recover from survival mode. As a nursing mother, she could not take hormone therapy, so she found a natural solution that addressed the chronic stress that caused her adrenal fatigue. In this episode, she shares her journey and how you can step into a new season of peace, joy, and hormonal balance.  Dr. Wentz teaches you how to identify the danger signals in your life that keep you in survival mode. Chronic stress can alter your mood in ways that make life seem more stressful than it is. She shares how you can add adaptogens to your daily routine to bolster your resilience to stress. Stress can come in physical and emotional forms. Dr. Wentz details how your workout routine could be straining your body and how you can adjust to exercises that coalesce with your body's stress tolerance.  Chronic stress is at the root of hormonal imbalance. Dr. Wentz has identified fourteen safety signals that will alleviate chronic stress. Your body cannot distinguish between a real threat, and a perceived threat, so everything you consume influences your physiology. Show Summary:“Renewal starts with the mind. When you understand your Core Energy and the impact of psychedelics for healing, awareness means half of the battle is won already." ‘Energy' is indeed a meaningful word. A term loosely used around by everybody, it can definitely connote different meanings that may pertain to our health, vibrancy, and even abstract ideas connected to the spiritual or ‘woowoo' realm. Though the Gutsy Health platform leans more towards science-based advice and findings, we are open to discuss new concepts that push the boundaries of our long-held beliefs, as long as it helps us reach our peak performance.  Our guest, Lana Pribic, is a certified life coach and podcast host of Modern Psychedelics. She will let us into the two-fold topics of Core Energy and Psychedelics. Having used psychedelics recreationally, she experienced what it's like to have barriers removed and be connected to her higher self. Later on, she studied at the prestigious Institute for Professional Excellence and Coaching (iPEC) to learn their trademarked Core Energy program. In this episode, you'll understand why psychedelics can be helpful, and be aware of your own level within the hierarchy of the seven (7) types of Core Energy. Is psychedelics something you'd try for self-awareness? Find out and listen to Episode 37 of the Gutsy Health Podcast to learn more.Exceptional Highlights:Core Energy can either be one of two things. Catabolic is destructive, tearing down, and works against you. While Anabolic is supportive, constructive, fueling and expansive. Discovered on the same year as the atomic bomb, psychedelics has become the atomic bomb for the mind. It allows you to see the world in a completely different way.Psychedelics are nonspecific amplifiers. They bring to the forefront your suppressions while tearing down your mind's defenses. Show Highlights: Origin of Core Energy  Lana Pribic 3:21 Core energy lies as the root of our thoughts, belief systems, and our actions. It's a default programming from everything as we grew up. Like in a cell's nucleus - that's where it all begins. Beliefs differentiated from Energy Lana Pribic 4:51Beliefs are not core energy. Your core energy determines whether a set of beliefs are going to hold you back or move you forward.50% of Change come from AwarenessLana Pribic 16:56 When it comes to change, knowing is already 50% of the work. We can't come to choice without awareness and it all starts in the head.  Important Links:The Gutsy Health Academy@lanapribic InstagramModern Psychedelics PodcastBegin Within Podcast Institute for Professional Excellence and Coaching

Time Management Workshop About Molly: Molly Noerenberg is a life and embodiment coach for performing artists. As a coach, Molly helps people make transformational changes in the way they connect to themselves, their bodies, and their unique nervous systems so that they can bring their most authentic selves into the world. Working with Molly means you will have someone on your team with unwavering belief in what is possible for you. As a coach, Molly has an incredible passion for helping performers connect to their truest essence and finding ways to express themselves that make them feel truly alive.   A fellow performer and singer, Molly has spent her entire career supporting the hearts, minds, and lives of performers. Molly is a certified Life Coach from the Health Coach Institute(formerly Holistic MBA), received her Bachelor of the Arts in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, her Masters of the Arts in Vocal Performance from New York University, and her Advanced Certificate from NYU in Vocal Pedagogy. Molly is the founder of the coaching practice ExpressedLife.com, in addition to serving on the faculty of NYU Steinhardt, and being the co-founder of the NYC Vocal Studio. The unchecked thoughts and beliefs are actually standing in the way of us just showing up. It creates that feeling in your body too. Catabolic energy and anabolic energy if it's always someone else's approval, permission, or job to decide if you're good enough, then what a miserable experience that will be in your life. Most artists want to perform at the highest level. But at each new level of success, we unlock a whole host of mindsets, stories, theories, and thoughts that we have to unpack and look at. It's tolerance of really uncomfortable, painful feelings. Walking through that fear is far less than continuing to live with it.  One of the things I learned about anxiety was that it's survivable. I always thought it was going to kill me. Anxiety is Manageable, Survivable, and I can handle it.  Actors who have performance anxiety: Number one, go to your body. Ask: How am I feeling? Have a systematic way. What does this body, what does this brain need to feel the most connected to myself, to be free to do the work that I came here to do? The clarity and the courage to look at, "who am I? Who do I want to be in the world? How do I contribute? What makes me feel alive?" And for so many actors, it is their acting work. And so what am I willing to do? Or find a way to do so that I can put myself in the position to be in my zone of genius? Like, how am I willing to work on this? Celebration and revelry of what you have the gift to do and to really like prioritize if there's something that makes you come alive. Do you know how many people are walking around just feeling like shells of themselves? The world needs more people who feel like themselves to connect to whatever they're doing. We deserve to find a way to get to that place, free ourselves, and be in a position to do the work we came here to do.  Obsessive versus harmonious passions. And for many of us, we were kind of like taught and trained that the only way to succeed is to have an obsessive passion, and that is a way to succeed. And a lot of people find a lot of success that way. But there are a lot of other people who are much more fulfilled through a harmonious blend of our passions. "I want to feel good." We're not taught how to feel good or how to honor our feelings, or how to notice how even just notice how we feel.  Schedule a free consult with Molly

What's easier to control: your dreams or your life? What if there is a way to control them both while sleeping? Cordell Jacks, a dream coach, takes us to this new level of dreaming called the dream works where there is active participation and control over your dreams.  His passion for dream works started when he dated a woman whose mother is a dream psychologist, one of the few in the world. She introduced Cordell to the academic field of dreams where he was instantly hooked to gain more knowledge, practice dream works, and share his acquired wisdom with others.  He has been a well-known dream coach for 20 years, helping CEOS overcome fears and encode ideas from dreams, interpreting his grandmother's dreams about the afterlife, and educating his own child about the importance of unique expression when it comes to dreams and nightmares. In this episode, we will take a deep dive into dream works: how it can navigate a space for yourself, how it can assist in healing, processing grief, depression, and moving on, and how it can aid in making conscious choices whether you are asleep or awake. Cordell talks about lucid dreaming and its beauty and how Ayahuasca, psychedelics, and dreaming are interrelated with each other.  He also shares some of his personal experiences on transitioning from corporate to dream works, how dreamwork helped him found a profound healing experience from a trauma he had when he was 11 years old and how it helped him to recover from a bad knee injury that hampered his life as a triathlete.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

From the book: Wisdom by Andrew Zuckerman “Tennis taught me so many lessons in life. One of the things it taught me is that every ball that comes to me, I have to make a decision. I have to accept responsibility for the consequences every time I hit a ball.  It also taught me about delayed gratification. No matter how you look or how much money you have, you still have to learn your craft. You have to hit a lot of balls. You have to train. There are disciplines of life that you learn from tennis or other sports. Another thing is that you learn to adapt. I have two sayings, champions adjust and pressure is a privilege. When you're playing a tennis match you can't say stop I want to do another take or can I play that over. That's the way sports are. They're very real that way. They teach you lessons in life but the most important one is accepting responsibility. You have to make a decision, and live with the consequence, that's what tennis does with every ball that comes to me. And I just use my experience in tennis in everyday life now and it's fabulous. It's been a great journey to learn those lessons." Wanting vs deciding: Decide that you're going to get something done today, Catabolic vs Anabolic energy The energy of responsibility is how you get out of anxiety. Ask yourself: What am I not taking responsibility for now, which is freaking me out? You have to train. "You can't buy self-esteem you need to earn it and you need to earn it from the toughest person on the planet, yourself." Champions adjust. It's not the strongest who will survive, but who can best adapt to change. Pressure is a privilege.

Dear Lovely Universe
Perceptions, 7 Levels Of Energy, And Filter Questions Explained

Dear Lovely Universe

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 2, 2021 9:54

In this episode, I would like to talk with you about perception and the importance of filter questions, then I'll give you 20 filter questions that you can use. Perception is your truth. That is the beauty of it. It's as if two people are sitting in front of a mirror, just at different angles. They are both looking at the same object but are seeing different things. Your perception is how you see the world. For example, if you wear red-tinted glasses, you will see the world as red. The same is true for green, blue, purple, and any other color. Your perception is shaped by all of your life experiences and the influences of people and the world around us. These perceptions are the foundation of your belief system which dictates how you judge and address situations. Aspects of your perceptions can help you achieve success and make you feel good and others can also be limiting and create stress. There are two types of energy responses, catabolic and anabolic energy. Catabolic energy is detrimental energy that is often associated with stress. This is because when a person perceives a situation as stressful, the brain creates catabolic hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. The function of these hormones is to perish your body's cells and tissues to provide energy to move through the stress. This can be really great for those to get things done and make action happen but is damaging to an individual on a long-term basis. When someone is in a state of catabolic energy, it may be hard for them to look past what is stressing them out to see the full view of other options that are available to them. Now, let's talk about anabolic energy. Anabolic energy is the force that enhances performance and is associated with less stress. The reason for this is because when your body is not under stress, it creates hormones that rather than tearing your body down, it builds your body up and cultivates your body's systems. It's important to remember and deeply know that neither energy is inherently “good” or “bad”. Both have their own purpose. On the same note, I'd like to add that every single person is where they are meant to be in their journey. Meaning that wherever they are, is the perfect place for them. Our wishes and desires for them don't dictate how they feel or what they do. It's important to know when it's appropriate to help someone and when to let them learn on their own. If you are a crutch to a person before they are ready, they will become dependent on you. In this case, we can pray for them and send them love. Now let's talk about filter questions. I want to ask you, what is awareness? You can pause this right now and really contemplate that. This is really such a profound question because there are many layers to it. One may answer that awareness of noticing what is around you physically. Another may answer that awareness is noticing what is going on in their body or mind. Another may answer that awareness is your knowledge about something. I'll share something with you that my Father shared with me. He gave me a notecard that said: “Imagine that you have no stories in your head. Who are you? What are you? You are awareness, consciousness, emptiness, nothingness, spaciousness. Am I aware?”At a deep level, the way that I interpret this is that we all associate ourselves with an identity. There is the self-identity, where everything is about you. There is the team identity where you identify with a group such as a sports team or a country. There is the planetary identity where you can identify with the planet Earth. And lastly, there is a Universal identity where you identify with everything in the Universe. But when we strip away all of our identities including our name, our gender, our age, our race, etc. Who are you? This is what I believe is true awareness. Let's back up for a second. You may be wondering, what does awareness have to do with filter questions? Filter questions are a really great way to gain awareness of our thoughts and actions. With this awareness, we can make better decisions. Filter questions are helpful to use when you are feeling confused about something or before you make a big decision. Now, here are 20 filter questions that you can use in your life. 1.What is my intention with this?2.When was the last time I listened to my instinct?3.What do I really want from this?4.Why do I want to do this?5.What's attracting me to this person?6. What am I like when something concludes?7.What was my thought in the first 10 seconds of meeting this person?8.What have I been successful with?9.What do I need to change to get there?10.What makes me laugh?11.What is my ideal outcome?12.What expectations do I have about this?13.What keeps me going?14.What really excites me about that?15.How would trying that feel to me?16.How does that idea fit with my values?17.What am I tolerating with this?18.What scares me about that?19.How can that help me?20.What clarity do I need? You can most definitely come up with your own filter questions. Pick a few that you really like and begin incorporating them into your decision-making process. My personal practice includes asking myself “why” about everything. Before I post a picture on Instagram, I ask myself why I want to do this. Before I go on a date, I ask myself why I want to do it. And it honestly is really helpful. My other favorite filter question is to ask myself what my intention is. That is really important because the intention is what will dictate if my heart is in the right place. I always try my best to act from a place of power, goodness, and conscious decision-making.To conclude this episode, I would like to tell you that I have full faith in you and your process. Top Takeaways: There are two types of energy: Catabolic energy (levels 1 and 2) is the draining and destructive energy. Anabolic energy (levels 3 to 7) is the constructive and healing energy. Level 1: The state of being a victim. In other words, where the customer or the customer service agent feels like there is no solution. Level 2: The Antagonist - Seeing everything through the lens of conflict. This is the 'I win, you lose' state. Level 3: The Rationalizer - People start to take responsibility for their thoughts, feelings, and actions. Therefore, this is where collaboration begins. Level 4: The Helper - Empathy kicks in. This level is about providing service and making sure that customers win. People at this level are prone to becoming overwhelmed from giving too much. Level 5: The Collaborator - Whatever challenges your customer is facing faces, you always find an opportunity for improvement and provide a win-win solution. Level 6: The Connector - This is where customer service is there to support the customers and connect with other departments in the company who can help. Level 7: The Creator State - This is where winning and losing is an illusion. It is knowing that you are doing the best you can no matter the result. Quote:“Everything is energy. Above all, it is important to understand the energy that you and others bring to the situation.” About:Natalya Berdikyan is the founder and CEO of Life By Design Academy and Frontline Consulting. In order to create a life and business on purpose, integrating and aligning the conscious & subconscious mind is what brings us a regenerative feeling that keeps us fueled with clarity & clairvoyance that creates the energetic resonance.Have you ever heard or made the following statement; “that person steals my energy, it's hard to be around them” or “Our chemistry just doesn’t mix well together”?If we replay these types of statements in our minds, it eventually becomes our truth and relationships and view of the world are tainted and hard to improve. These thoughts lie within your conscious, subconscious, and superconscious field. There two types of energy that play a significant role in our personal effectiveness and quality of structure we build our life, health, relationships, and regenerative businesses on.The two energy types I am referring to are Anabolic and Catabolic. The first is Anabolic energy is constructive, building, healing energy. This type of energy releases anabolic hormones, such as testosterone, into the body. The second type of energy is called Catabolic energy. It is draining, destructive energy. This type of energy releases catabolic chemicals, such as cortisol and adrenaline, which actually eat away at our very cells.  The below model provides an overall summary of the seven levels of energy. It also includes the core thoughts, feelings, and behavior associated with each level.Listen in as I introduce you to "GAIL," and how we acquire blocks, default neural networks, and lack of self-trust when it comes to not only being a self-leader, in control of your own life but one that creates a presence in the world around you with love, life, and lasting impact.

Exercise Effects On Metabolism. Host; Pete Jacobs. In this Episode    How exercise helps or hinders weight loss.   Why “increasing metabolism” is not what you think it is. Why “Move More, Eat Less” is not a sound approach to weight loss How to burn more stored fat calories for energy all day. The two sides of metabolism crucial for health & growth.       Looking at exercise and calories burned and consumed will not get you far in health and weightloss goals. Example; Why Eat Less, Move More, does not work. 70kg female approx 30mins easy approx - 100 cal 30min Moderate approx 200 cal 30min Vigorous approx 300 -350 cal   1 apple 100 calories 2 eggs 150 calories 100g chicken breast 170 calories 1 cup of milk 150 calories.   So if we make this about calories in and calories out, and the only reason to exercise is to lose weight, a 30min walk followed by a latte would mean you have gained weight. However, STOP thinking about calories. Everything I just said is the wrong way to think about exercise, food, metabolism, and weightloss.  It’s NOT all about calories. It may be a little about calories, but I’m now going to explain metabolism and exercise, and how they effect one another with many interjections of “it depends”. Bottomline - exercise does not burn many calories, and restricting food intake lowers health benefits of fats, proteins, vitamins & minerals; The point of exercise is to boost the benefits of your metabolism and metabolic health during the entire day, such as;       Aerobic adaption  - burn fat, more oxygen, more caplilaires, blood flow etc.   Outdoors  - sunlight - eyes, skin - nervous system - hormones - melatonin - sleep. Breathing- nasal breathing, vagus nerve, parasympathetic nervous system, CO2 tolerance and oxygen exchange. Blood flow delivery of nutrients  - vitamins and minerals and elements - oxygen. Catabolic metabolism -  continue with fasting post exercise Lowers hunger because tapping into burning fat increases catabolic reactions for available fuel and ‘energy’       I dive into   What type of exercise matters.   Dependant on what fuel is being used. Why high intensity interval training will not help most people lose weight or be healthy.       The bottomline - train aerobically to MAF or your personal modifications of MAF, to gain the adaptations you want.   Live Your Own Fit Start enjoying 1:1 Health and Performance Coaching, or Group Coaching with Jaimielle and Pete Jacobs today. I experienced early menopause 42 (y.o). Prior to that I had off the charts high libido, now I have very low. I eat a good diet, exercise frequently, practise mindfulness, but did go through a period with high stress, fatigue, smoked and abused Ventolin (2015-2019). Just want to understand. 1. why I record high testosterone, is it of concern?  2. do I need to rebalance hormones?  3. how do I get my libido back?  Equilibrium Labs 2020 hormones- Estrodial 0.6pg/ml - Progestrone 21pg/ml- PG/E2 35L - DHEAS 5.5 ng/ml  Leyla: Hi Dr Cabral! Tony TC Hale - Bio-individuality & Kick Your Fat in the Nuts On this podcast, we discuss Bio individuality and kicking your fat in the nuts with Author, podcaster, Coach... Tony "TC" Hale: Professional comedian turned natural health practitioner, T.C. Hale (aka Tony), put together this series of books in order to bring health and wellness into a new light… a new non-boring light.  He wanted to bring his experience as a touring comedian into a subject where comedy has not been welcomed in the past.  The question is, why not?  Why can’t we be entertained while we learn something new?  Why can’t learning about physiology be as fun as watching your uncle Mitch wrestle with a live water sprinkler while he’s drunk? Tony recognized the need to bring some funny to the health & wellness world when he was stricken with his own health concern.  With twenty-three doctors and specialist only making him worse, he decided to begin his own research.  After diving into literally hundreds of books on health, nutrition and how the body really works, he noticed every book had one common denominator… boring writing.  The information within the books was incredibly fascinating but would it kill ya to keep me awake long enough to finish reading one chapter?  Hence, the Kick it in the Nuts™ series was born. Don’t be mistaken, the title is funny and who wouldn’t want to kick their major health concern in the nuts if they had the chance? But, in this series, we won’t be discussing how to fight any symptoms, conditions, or diseases in any way. If you want to cover up a symptom, you can see any doctor for that. Instead, we’ll be talking about why these symptoms actually come about, why your body chemistry is allowing these symptoms to show up, and how to adjust what you’re doing, eating and shoving down your gullet, so that your body has a chance to return to its natural state. You would be amazed at what the body can correct on its own if you just give it a chance to work it’s magic. Understanding how to give your body a little push in the right direction can make all the difference. Julia Barbaro & Gino Barbaro discuss the six stages of energy and why you need to understand how they impact your daily life. Every action that you take throughout the day corresponds to one of the six stages, and being conscious and aware of how you react to the situation will allow you to take control and act in an empowering fashion. The six stages are as follows:   Victim Anger Responsibility Concern Reconciliation Non Judgmental   The first two stages are referred to as catabolic, a low, negative draining energy. When a person is in this type of energy, it is difficult to find solutions, and the focus is purely on the self. It is important to understand that you are acting in this manner, and the focus should be how to raise your level of energy and try to “get into” the next stages.   The remaining four stages are considered anabolic energy, positive, uplifting, and energizing. This is where we begin to take positive action, begin to view problems as opportunities and start to look for and create solutions in our lives.   The key is to realize where you are resonating throughout the day. If you are acting like a victim, chances are you won’t pick up the phone and make that important phone call. You will just make an excuse. It is also important to understand that you have the power to decide at what stage you want to live in. Each stage is neither good nor bad. Sometimes you need to act like a victim, especially when you lose a sale or an important relationship has ended. The key is to realize that you are acting this way, and can change whenever you are ready.   Please reach out to Julia at Juliabarbaro@gmail.com with any questions or comments.

She is the founder of a personal growth and coaching company called the Litt Factor, and Worthy Human, an inspirational and empowering book. Tracy's Work Tracy helps to remind people of their potential, teach the power of their mind, and support them in nurturing an amazing relationship with one’s self. "One of the things that inspires me to teach and coach people, because you can either be a victim or a warrior no matter what external circumstances coming your way. And you can live your life based on what happens outside of you and be a total powerless entity to what that is." Where Beliefs Form Tracy has much motivation and valuable insights based on her life experiences to share with her audience. Learn how – as kids – we develop certain beliefs that we hold throughout our lives. "Anything that’s ever happened to you that has influenced your ability to fully own your inherent worth is a lie. It’s not true. It doesn’t influence it that way. But when we’re kids, we don’t know that we hold our belief systems and then we end up as adults with a 7-year-old controlling our lives, basically thinking that we’re not enough." Rapid Transformation Therapy Our guest also talks about how she coaches her clients and other people who are in need of a coach with the help of Energy Assessment and Rapid Transformational Therapy. How we show up in life and experience it is determined by our thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors. "Ultimately, I’m here to impact people. I am a vessel of healing and growth and inspiration. And I also just do what feels good to me. And I think that’s probably the biggest part of who I am. There’s always someone out there in the world who is waiting for you to show up and share what you know and teach." Choices Tracy indicates that the most important thing you have is your power to choose what you believe and think. Everything in your life comes out of you, therefore doing the work of you is non-negotiable if you want to reach your potential and make your dreams a reality. "You get to choose. Everything is based on your power of choice. There is not one thing going on in your life, business, relationships, that isn’t based on your ability to choose. You have a choice; you either take the lesson or keep the pain." Energy Healing Tracy enlightened us that some energy has a catabolic effect on us, which means that our energy levels drop and limit our sense of options. Other energies have an anabolic effect in which our energy levels are elevated and lead us to a state of freedom, choice, power, and fulfillment. Each thought we entertain has an energetic consequence. Over time, catabolic energy injures us while anabolic energy heals or builds us up. "Catabolic energy is you’re a low-level kind of destructive energy and anabolic energy is growth-oriented, productive when higher energy on the energetic scale. It was another tool for me to help a client with self-discovery and understanding where they are energetically and then through the course of shifting certain behaviours." Acceptance It is important to allow yourself to simply feel and be yourself – we must accept our human emotions and responses with open arms without being influenced badly by them. "Getting comfortable feeling all your feelings is a paramount component of living your best life." Subscribe! If you enjoyed the podcast please subscribe and rate it. Let's face it: cortisol gets a bad rap these days. "I have high cortisol", "I have low cortisol", "My cortisol it out-of-whack". You've no doubt heard this all before or said it yourself. So in an effort to decode cortisol once and for all, I decided to feature a wildly popular previous guest of mine - the guy who personally helps me and my wife manage our own hormones and has helped countless listeners of mine with their own anti-aging and natural hormone management protocols. His name is Dr. Craig Koniver. Craig was a guest on the episode "" He has been practicing Performance Medicine for over 18 years and is the founder of Koniver Wellness in Charleston, South Carolina. Not satisfied with the disease-based model of modern medicine, Dr. Koniver seeks to help his clients optimize their health and performance through time-tested, nutrient and science-driven protocols that are the cutting-edge of medicine. He is the founder and creator of the patent-pending FastVitaminIV® as well as re-engineering the NAD+ IV protocols, now called Brain Refuel™. Dr. Koniver’s client list includes Navy SEALs, NFL players, PGA golfers, Hall of Fame NHL players, world-class professional athletes, Fortune 100 Executives, well-known celebrities and TV personalities. In addition, Dr. Koniver offers a comprehensive training program of the Koniver Wellness Model to physician practices across the country. In this episode, you'll discover: -Cortisol 101...5:32 Hormone secreted by adrenal glands Not enough attention is given to cortisol in the medical field "Stress hormone" -- fight or flight response It is secreted in response to any real or perceived threat or stressor We're hard-wired to have high cortisol in the am, and low in the evening Rhythm vs. volume is key Acute hormone; ex. being chased by a lion Turns off pain recognition Anti-inflammatory Catabolic hormone -- wear and tear We've changed cortisol from an acute to a chronic hormone Key takeaway: try to find meaningful ways to live w/ the sun's rhythm Lowest levels are at around 10 pm; allows anabolic hormones testosterone, growth hormone, and melatonin to elevate Most critical hours of sleep are 10 pm - 2 am It takes melatonin 12 hours to reset Later (or no) sun exposure means melatonin levels peak later, leading to loss of sleep quality -How cortisol is secreted...13:37 Perceived stressors (most often subtle in modern times) Primitive part of the mid-brain, above the spinal cord Reticular Activating System (RAS) triggers release of cortisol Signal sent to locus ceruleus (one of the most connected parts of the brain) Signal sent to hypothalamus...to pituitary, then to adrenal glands Norepinephrine and cortisol are "partners in crime"; released along w/ cortisol Pituitary responsible for all signaling molecules We stop releasing cortisol, and have surplus of norepinephrine We release an average of 35 g of cortisol per day Irregular sleep patterns (night shift workers) lead to chronic health problems later in life -How cortisol imbalances affect our lives...20:12 Our brains cannot differentiate between perceived and real stressors Visualizing a success (or a failure) will trigger cortisol secretion "I can't wait to wear that out fit" is much more effective than "I'm way too big..." RAS helps distinguish background and foreground in our world Buy a red truck, all of a sudden you see a bunch of red trucks on the roads What you put your attention is what you're going to get in your life -How cortisol gets disrupted...25:40 Humans are "super-adaptors"; we can tolerate stressors over a long period of time Modern tech can disconnect us from the sun, circadian rhythm and cortisol flow We release cortisol at night when we look at TV, phones, etc. at night We tolerate stressors for years and decades, but it eventually catches up with us It will eventually blunt the anabolic hormones (testosterone, growth hormone, melatonin) We lose sleep quality, take longer to heal injuries, workouts are more challenging, etc. Gold standard to test adrenal function: salivary cortisol test Salivary is far less stressful than a blood draw (hence more accurate results) We rely on stimulants such as coffee and prescription drugs, rather than address the issue of disrupted cortisol flow -Why cortisol is such a hot topic in modern society...37:40 Acute stressor triggers cortisol Over time, cortisol has become a chronic hormone, rather than an acute hormone We'll never be chased by a lion in the jungle We trigger cortisol response w/ everyday stressors Chipping away at cortisol release over time We can't keep up w/ cortisol demands; lose cortisol reserve Major stressor (loss of job, death in the family, etc.) causes a breakdown when cortisol levels have been chronically disrupted Cancer, autoimmune disease, etc. occur with this breakdown Many fear cancer, other serious illnesses Best way to prevent disease: take care of cortisol levels Be aware of indicators of low cortisol levels: poor sleep, longer than usual recovery times, etc. -The key element regarding cortisol missed by conventional medicine practice...43:13 Adrenal fatigue and insufficiency doesn't exist in conventional medicine Two extremes in conventional medicine: Cushings disease, and Addisons disease Cushings: too much cortisol secretion Addisons: not enough cortisol is produced There's a gray area; it's not simply black and white As cortisol levels are disrupted, norepinephrine levels increase Increased heart rate Increased blood pressure This feels like anxiety Consider visiting a doctor knowledgeable in this as you may have lost control of the cortisol buffer Study in the Netherlands on men over 50 who ran marathons vs. men who didn't run marathons Men who ran marathons suffered more heart attacks (due to overtraining) Positive exercise can still be a stressor, releasing cortisol Recovery is key to being an elite athlete -How cortisol interacts with other hormones in the body...49:30 Hormones are like kids w/ differing personalities Cortisol is the neighborhood bully High insulin levels and cortisol lead to weight gain (cut carbs in the morning) Abnormal cortisol modulation affects thyroid levels deleteriously Be aware of your adrenal status if you're on thyroid hormone replacement An imbalance of cortisol and testosterone inhibits muscle production Growth hormone depletion leads to brain fog, weight gain, etc. -How to effectively modulate cortisol...56:52 Tests: Blood in the morning Salivary cortisol test anytime Adrenal glands is like a factory producing hormones: cortisol is the goal, but we need to make the other hormones Cortisol imbalances lead to depletion of other hormones Pregnenolone is made from cholesterol; low cholesterol levels affects cortisol production Number 1 risk factor for cancer for men is low testosterone; cortisol will help optimize health Having a cortisol reserve enables us to handle and tolerate stress, thus preventing cancer, autoimmune disease Behaviors to normalize cortisol levels (deliberate contemplative exercise) Meditation, prayer, reading Activate parasympathetic system, turn off sympathetic system Meditation is not the only means of managing stress Adaptogenic herbs: Licorice root (delays conversion of cortisol to cortisone) Holy basil (sense of the divine in one's world) Cordyceps powder (in coffee, shakes) Rhodiola Schisandra berry Critical nutrients: Vitamin A Vitamin C Vitamin B5 Intravenous NAD+ Peptides: Hexarelin Epithalon Ipamorelin GHRP 6 and GHRP 2 Intranasal and intravenous stem cells Hydrocortisone replacement (don't surpass 35 mg per day) Phosphatidylserine Ashwagandha CBD -Closing thoughts...1:14:42 Good correlation between HRV and cortisol; collect morning and evening times Cortisol helps be your best cognitively If you're feeling tired, stressed and anxious, check your cortisol levels -And much more...
