Hey Team, I know how frustrating it is when you're doing everything “right”—you've cut out gluten, dairy, eggs, and still your child's skin is flaring. It feels like food is the enemy. But in this episode, I want to shift that belief. Because your child doesn't have eczema because of a slice of bread or a bite of scrambled egg. The real issue is a leaky gut, sluggish detox pathways, and an overwhelmed immune system that's responding to everything—especially food. I'm walking you through the real reason your child is reacting, what the IgG antibody half-life has to do with mysterious delayed flares, and the food “triggers” I recommend ditching during this critical gut-healing window. This is not about fear. It's about understanding. And once you do, you can start making decisions that actually move the needle toward healing. And I've got tools to help with that: You can grab the Skin Comfort Trio for soothing, organic skin relief at eczemakids.com, plus our Prebiotic Tea to support the gut gently from the inside out. And if you're stuck on what to feed your kid that's actually eczema-safe and edible, download my free guide: 7 Eczema-Friendly Meals Your Kids Will Actually Eat. Let's stop fearing food and start healing the system! Take Care, Andra

Normalizing thyroid antibodies can be challenging, and several factors can cause elevated antibodies. Finding and eliminating food triggers is one such factor that is an essential part of the thyroid healing journey.Certain foods can trigger autoimmunity, causing an increase in pro-inflammatory cytokines and a decrease in regulatory T cells. In other cases, specific food proteins can trigger an immune system response due to molecular mimicry.Today, in part two of my series on how to lower and normalize thyroid antibodies, I'm discussing how to lower your thyroid antibodies by addressing food triggers. While all of the episodes in the series will be important, this one might be the most important. I talk about the Triad of Autoimmunity, the role of elimination diets to identify food triggers, testing for food sensitivities, specific food categories and their impact on gut health, common food allergens, the role of iodine, pros and cons of intermittent fasting, and more. Do you want to get by, or do you want to get stronger? What do I mean?Okay, let's say you're determined to eat intentionally all day—from breakfast to bedtime. And you're totally on track until...Ding! You get a text from a friend:"Wanna grab dinner tonight?"Ugh! I mean, who doesn't want to hang out with friends? But you know the drill: appetizers, desserts, drinks. You can practically feel your day going off the rails. So much for sticking to your plan, huh? That last-minute invite—that's what we call a trigger. It's something that pops up that "triggers" an action, and it's usually an action we'd prefer not to do.And we want to dodge triggers, don't we? 'Cause why slay the dragon when we can avoid it?But what if that's not always the best strategy...What if triggers aren't always the enemy? And what if they're actually an opportunity to test the skills you've been working on?Imagine being able to go out to dinner with friends while still being in 100% control.Imagine proving to yourself that this change you're working on—it's actually sticking. Wouldn't that feel amazing?See—When you start rolling with your triggers instead of avoiding them, you unlock a new level of self-control. Because, let's be real, sooner or later, you've got to face them head-on. And ignoring them? It's like pretending a ticking time bomb isn't ticking. And when you confront the triggers you'd rather avoid, you're not just getting by—you're getting stronger! So let's learn to turn the tables on triggers and make them work for you. Kirsten is a UK registered dietitian specializing in irritable bowel syndrome. She is a fully trained low FODMAP dietitian and has incorporated this diet into her Take Control method for optimal results. Before becoming a low FODMAP dietitian, Kirsten suffered with IBS herself. About Amber: Born and raised in California, I love the combination of city life and outdoor living that is ideal for a Boy-Mom who is raising men. Raised in a home that taught the Bible, table manners, and a love for the beach, I find myself passing those ideals on to the next generation. (Though with four sons, table manners are always a work in progress!) More than anything, I want to live up to my God-given potential. And I want that for my friends, family, readers, and clients too! That's why I write about gentle parenting, thriving marital relationships, and how to live a healthy lifestyle — all with practical and biblical truth! Personally, my most cherished moments are when I'm reading and praying in my hammock, sipping sparkling water, while talking on the phone with a close friend, or spending long slow days at the beach with my family to rest and rejuvenate. If you're anything like me you've probably tried to manage food triggers by avoiding them. Perhaps its worked to some degree and you figure you just need to double down, be more disciplined, or more committed or love yourself more . . . So when you find yourself on the other side of yet another frenzied ice cream binge you might start doing exactly that….doubling down….recommitting, etc. only to find it happening again and again. Like one of my students once said….avoiding triggers works…until it doesn't. The good news is there's another way. Something that doesn't require you to keep track of every potential trigger and walk on eggshells “metaphorically” in your life for fear of losing control of your eating. I call this “Trigger Immunity ™ “ This is where you develop the ability to be aware of the sensation of being triggered on the inside so that you can have control over what you do on the outside.Voila! Consistently healthy choices. Today's podcast episode covers exactly how to achieve Trigger Immunity in your life. When you click play to listen, you'll discover: Why avoiding triggers doesn't work and what does The 5 tools and processes my students have used to regain control over eating choices no matter what food is in front of them The role of pleasure in making consistently healthy eating choices What's your biggest takeaway? I loved this conversation with Amber. You see, it didn't start with food for Amber. It started with her anger towards her kids! She co-wrote the book Triggers alongside former guest Wendy Speake. And just like God has continued to challenge and free Wendy in different areas of her life, (Sugar and Social Media). He's been doing the same with Amber. Her latest book, Food Triggers: Exchanging Unhealthy Patterns for God-Honoring Habits. And if you're like most people, you have a bit of a complicated relationship with food. Maybe you eat more than you'd like to on holidays, or on vacation. Maybe food has become a comfort to you over the craziness of the past few years. Amber gets that. I get that. Jumping off of last week's conversation, Jenn takes us on a deep dive through triggers. Of course events and holidays are one thing but what if you always eat a snack at 3pm or can't go to the movies without thinking about movie theater popcorn? It's ALL HERE. And maybe your solution to foods that trigger you is to simply not have them in your home. That can work, sure, but Jenn advises we eventually want to move past that. Better yet, she helps us with HOW to do it. Then it's all about emotional triggers and what we can do to make it easier on ourselves. This might be an episode you listen to in parts and then again a couple times. There's SO much here! Seeing the adult obesity rate in America is a whopping 42% and over 70% of adults are considered overweight, we obviously are facing an obesity crisis. With CDC Covid guidelines telling us to stay indoors, many people are overeating due to boredom or depression. As a result, we are seeing harmful health hazards regarding our weight. Certified health coach, author, and mom of four, Amber Lia helps us find and defeat our food triggers and cherish the body God gave us. It’s not that we are powerless, we just don’t realize that cortisol and dopamine constantly cycle in our bodies causing a chemical response making us crave the wrong foods. Therefore, establishing small specific healthy habits and detoxing can make a huge radical difference in our health and lifestyle. As an RN with a background in Critical Care and Pastoral Care Ministry, Karen has seen first hand the devastation of disease and poor dietary habits that have many people taking medications because of preventable diseases. It wasn't until she suffered with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis for over 30 years and then was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011, that she began her own personal journey of challenging conventional medicine regarding processed foods vs. Food as Medicine. She returned to school to study nutrition and learned that excess sugar, gluten, and dairy was contributing to her illnesses. It was then that she changed her diet, lost weight and learned that our bodies can heal themselves when we treat it well with proper whole foods from the earth. Karen wrote a book, “Lose the Sugar, You're Sweet Enough “ She also gives seminars and teaches healthy eating. She has done quarterly cooking shows that play on the TV's at Mercy Hospital as an educational tool for the patients. Karen values religion and has volunteered through her church as a Hospital Coordinator Praying for the sick and has done educational talks on treating the body as a temple. In the past she has enjoyed and participated in the Pastoral Ministry Program at Roswell Cancer Institute and volunteered for the American Heart Association for over 17 years. Eczema is a multifaceted condition. There is no single root cause that is the same for everyone. My guest today, a physician who put her eczema into remission, will discuss the impact on food, as well as the eastern approach to healing skin rashes. My guest today is Dr. Pamela Langenderfer. Dr. Pam is a naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist who believes that food is the foundation to optimal health. She has found that when people change their nutrition, 50% of their symptoms will often improve. As she says, "You cannot out supplement or out medicate a poor diet!" Dr. Pam grew up on a farm and was an avid athlete. One would assume that she was really healthy, but this was not the case. She had chronic ear infections as a child, which resulted in many rounds of antibiotics. She also had severe eczema and asthma, which resulted in chronic steroid use. This ultimately wreaked havoc on her gut, skin and hormones. Dr. Pam spent the first half of her life feeling awful all the time, knowing there had to be a better way to live. This ultimately led her to seek out a career as a naturopathic physician and acupuncturist. Join us as we talk about how a diet high in Omega-6s and histamine can play a role in eczema flares. Have you seen improvements in your skin by reducing the amount of Omega-6 fatty acids in your diet? Tell me about it in the comments! In this episode: Dr. Pam's eczema story Information about what is means to count macros Importance of the Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio The concept of "wind food" in Chinese medicine Temporary elimination of certain foods Foods rich in Omega-3s Quotes "Macros are essentially tracking how much protein, how much fat and how much carbs you're eating." [6:45] "Eczema is an autoimmune disease." [8:08] "When you have excess Omega-sixes from poultry, from nuts, from seeds, it actually can convert into arachidonic acid and it becomes pro-inflammatory." [8:47] "The best advice I give to people is that if you don't want to have to eliminate something, then eat everything. So that way you don't develop an intolerance to it." Ketosis is the process where your body is running its engine o ketones instead of glucose. High fat or high protein diet is not going to trigger ketosis. Ketosis is triggered by the absences of carbohydrate. You want to keep your carbs intake to less than 20g. Fat is neutral but doing too much fat or eating fat frequently will trigger insulin.
