From Jan 2024. Dive into the provocative world of artistic "theft" as Ty and Nathan explore how creative innovation truly emerges from our influences. This conversation challenges the myth of pure originality, arguing instead that the greatest artists throughout history have been masterful collectors and transformers of ideas.Beginning with Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto's transformative quote—"Start copying what you love... at the end of the copy you will find yourself"—the duo examines how creative development flourishes through strategic borrowing. From Quentin Tarantino's open acknowledgment of film references to David Bowie's musical influences, the most distinctive voices often emerge from those who've absorbed the most diverse inspirations. They unpack wisdom from creative legends including Jim Jarmusch, Paul Schrader, and Jean-Luc Godard, who all emphasize that true originality lies not in where you take ideas from, but where you take them to. Art movements throughout history—from Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism—evolved through artists stealing ideas from each other while working side by side, proving that innovation rarely emerges in isolation. What distinguishes mere imitation from transformative theft? When does copying become finding your voice? The conversation offers practical advice for artists at every stage: diversify your influences, document what moves you and why, maintain an "omnivorous" approach to inspiration, and create systems to capture ideas when they strike. Ultimately, the episode makes a compelling case that the most authentic artistic expression comes not from avoiding influence, but from embracing it wholeheartedly.Follow us on Instagram @ty_nathan_clark and @nathanturborg to continue exploring how creative influences shape artistic development.Send us a message - we would love to hear from you!Make sure to follow us on Instagram here:@justmakeartpodcast @tynathanclark @nathanterborg

On Friday, US president-elect Donald Trump asked the US Supreme Court to pause the potential TikTok ban from going into effect, until his administration takes office and can pursue a "political resolution" to the issue.12月27日,美国当选总统唐纳德·特朗普要求美国最高法院暂停执行TikTok潜在禁令,直至其政府上任并通过“政治手段”解决此问题。There are voices claiming that Trump is rendering assistance to TikTok because it helped him harvest support from young voters during his run for the presidency. But US President Joe Biden registered a TikTok account in February, about four months earlier than Trump, while Vice-President Kamala Harris registered her account before she became the presidential nominee. Actually, Trump actively pushed for a TikTok ban in his last term from 2016 to 2020. TikTok。TikTok is just a platform, and what really matters is that TikTok has already become part of the daily life and an essential channel of expression for more than 170 million US users and any attempt to ban it risks violating their constitutional freedom of speech.TikTok只是一个平台。真正重要的是,它已经成为1.7亿多美国用户日常生活的一部分,也是他们不可或缺的发声渠道,任何封禁TikTok的尝试都可能侵犯宪法赋予他们的言论自由权利。Data show that since 2020, TikTok's quarterly download volume in the United States has surpassed that of native social media apps such as X(formerly Twitter), You-Tube, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. According to Statista, by April, or the time Biden signed a "ban or sell" act targeting it, its number of monthly active users had already exceeded 1.58 billion around the world, making it the fifth most popular social app. In a statement, TikTok also pointed out that if the "ban or sell" order is not frozen, within a month small businesses on TikTok would lose over $1 billion in revenue. That loss is the real challenge to US national security as it might push higher the unemployment rate that's closely associated with crime and social disorder. Another blow the TikTok ban will deal is to the credibility of the US government. TikTok is fully registered in accordance with US laws, operates legally and compliantly, and is subject to US regulatory oversight. By trying to suppress a legal company with political power, the US government makes itself and its written laws untrustworthy. This is particularly ironic for a country that claims "free speech" and a free-market economy. Jan 19 will be the deadline for the "sell or ban" order. It's also going to be the last day of the Biden administration. From Jan 20, the Trump administration will face all the problems of the US. By trying to pause the order, it has made a rational move to protect the US' long-term interests.1月19日是“不卖就禁”令的截止期限,也是拜登政府执政的最后一天。从1月20日起,特朗普政府将接手美国面临的所有问题。特朗普政府对暂停该禁令的尝试,表明其在通过理性举措来保护美国的长期利益。oversightn.监察;监管

(Begin episode transcript) Hi Friends, I'm Scott. This is What a Weird Week: Ten Weird Things from this Week's News. For transcript/ shownotes/ podcast stuff see www.shownotes.page! Here's Season 5, Episode 17 first published on Friday April 26th 2024... Nine Nines Revisited!! In this episode we check in on 9 former stories to see how they're holding up... ❿ Dog story (From Jan 12th) A couple of scary dogs caused $350,000 damage at a car dealership in Houston. And there's video. The dogs have been arrested and are being detained at an animal shelter. They scratched the paint and tore bumpers off cars. They went HAM on these automobiles. But why? They think cats were hiding under the cars and the dogs got all fired up and took it out on the poor vehicles. https://abc13.com/dogs-tear-apart-cars-g-motors-cypress-tx-barc-houston-stray-canines/14262071/ *UPDATE: Those dogs have yet to sign any deals for Influencer Boxing or as Junkyard Spokescanines, or any number of possibilities... Snickers Bar for Dogs? "We're not ourselves when we're hungry." *Does it hold up? This story holds as a weird one. Also, it keeps happening! It happened again last month in Florida. https://nypost.com/2024/03/30/us-news/dogs-cause-3000-in-damage-to-car-trying-to-get-to-cat/ ❾ A New Approach to stop floods... get bent! (From Jan 19th) This is an article out of the UK from Sky News about how some rivers have gotten "canalised" over the years ("canalised" = "straightened out like a canal"). Now they're gonna try to bend those rivers again and if the researchers are right, when we bend it like Beckham our rivers might be less likely to flood. Or... you're able to control where it happens, maybe is more accurate... It's about slowing the water flow just like a bendy road slows down traffic. (Looking at you, Lombard St. San Francisco.) https://news.sky.com/story/could-making-rivers-bendy-again-help-prevent-flooding-13047000 *UPDATE: Other than a report on how costly flood prep is, there has been little followup on this. *Does it hold up? Yes. Yes it does. Flooding remains a problem to be solved. Or we can all live in an ark. ❽ Chinese marathoner disqualified for chain smoking through the entire race... (From Jan 26th) - the fellow's name is Uncle Chen... he is 52... he finished the race in 3hrs and 33mins! (winner's time was 2:06:46). - this was at the Xiamen Marathon... tens of thousands of runners take part in this... - official ruling was disqualification smoking on the track. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12979881/chinese-marathon-runner-uncle-chen-smoking-brother-disqualified.html *UPDATE: Weeks after that report, Uncle Chen was banned from competing at the same marathon for two years. *Does it hold up? 10/10 it holds up! In a world where people run marathons dressed like bananas, etc., Uncle Chen continues to get be talked about in running circles. This article from Run Society goes deep into the sport psychology of Uncle Chen... https://www.runsociety.com/races/chain-smoking-marathoner/ ❼ Super Swiftie breaks world record... (From Feb 2nd) This is a fellow in Pakistan... 20 year old fellow... who was able to break the record for the most Taylor Swift songs identified from their lyrics in one minute. The world record is now 34 Taylor Swift songs. Maybe you want to try to break that record this weekend. So it's quite straightforward. You have to listen to the lyrics, identify the songs. No peeking... wear a blindfold. It looks like it takes intense concentration. https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2024/1/worlds-number-one-swiftie-breaks-record-for-naming-taylor-swift-songs-763982 *UPDATE: A month ago Bilal posted a video on YouTube unboxing his plaque/certificate. *Does it hold up? 10/10 it holds up. That record will be tough to beat! ❻ (CHARACTER LIMIT!) for full show notes see https://www.scottyandtony.com/2024/04/what-weird-week-special-episode-nine.html or just remember WWW.Shownotes.Page --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/weirdweek/message

It's Thursday and we're talking about Ford's comments on BYD's strategic move to North America. We also cover the IRS' issuance of advanced tax credits as well as Apple fans returning their VisionPro headsets. China's electric vehicle giant, BYD, is reportedly making a strategic move by setting up a new EV factory in Mexico, aiming to turn it into an export hub for the U.S. market and worrying many in the industry. The company is conducting a feasibility study and negotiating with Mexican officials about the factory's location and other terms. This move is part of BYD's global expansion strategy, complementing its dominant presence in the Chinese market.Last month, Elon Musk said that Chinese automakers will "demolish" global rivals without trade barriers.A forthcoming report by the group Alliance for American Manufacturing says "The introduction of cheap Chinese autos… backed with the power and funding of the Chinese government… could end up being an extinction-level event for the U.S. auto sector."On Wednesday, Marin Gjaja, COO of Ford's EV unit, Model e, spoke about the ‘colossal strategic threat' of Chinese EVs:  “They are ahead of us in this technology… We look at that and say, ‘That's coming here eventually, so we'd better get fit now and better get going on EVs or we don't have a future as a company.'”The U.S. government has dished out $135 million in advance EV tax rebates since the start of this year, marking a significant shift in consumer electric vehicle tax credit processingPrior to 2024, EV credits were claimed on tax returns the following year. From Jan. 1, these can now be transferred to dealers at the sale time, reducing purchase prices. The IRS reported over 25,000 sale time reports, with 78% involving advance payment requests, totaling around $135 million paid to dealers.New EVs account for 17,500 of the advance payment requests, with used vehicles making up 2,000. Over 11,000 U.S. auto dealers are now registered for the program.Just weeks after its launch, a notable number of users are returning their $3,500 Apple Vision Pro headsets, citing discomfort and limited applicability. Most complaints are primarily about comfort issues like headaches and motion sickness due to the headset's design.Parker Ortolani from The Verge reported a burst blood vessel in his eye after using the headset, highlighting health concerns associated with its use.Apart from physical discomfort, users also cite the headset's limited productivity and entertainment applications as reasons for their dissatisfaction.Concerns around file compatibility and multitasking inefficiencies further dampen the user experience, as noted by Google's senior manager Carter Gibson.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

RBI released a discussion paper that said: We've let you good people live all this time with “free” payment systems, so should we allow banks to start charging now? Specifically for UPI, which has reached volumes of 10 lakh crore rupees per month? And should we charge merchants? Deepak's answer is a big NO. He firmly believes that the payments ecosystem (and the economy as a whole) will gain much more than any fees on UPI transactions will. As always, Deepak has a context to his argument and covers a wide range of nuances. Listen to this podcast to understand his view on different aspects of the UPI payments system, its evolution, and the ways in which it can drive innovation. Also, this podcast covers many different aspects than Deepak's earlier post on the same topic.  Show Quotes & Time stamps 02:00 - Deepak and Shray trade fascinating stories about payment systems before UPI. 07:00 - The interoperability of UPI is a game changer 10:30 - How much do we pay for other payment systems? “RBI spends 4,824 crores per year printing cash. None of that cost is borne by anybody except the government itself” 14:30 - The evolution of ATMs, Cheques, NEFT, RTGS, and the big role that RBI played in making these systems affordable for users. 21:30 - Has UPI always been free? Or has it also evolved over time to be free? “The government went to parliament and passed a resolution to make UPI free… That's the extent we went to keep this payment mechanism free” “1,00,000 Crore is now available to banks to make money by parking it RBI and earning interest…. This is because people want to keep money with banks to make UPI payments” 31:00 - How much does it actually cost to run the UPI payments system? “NPCI spends just ~680 crores per year maintaining the UPI infrastructure. Compare that against the float income that banks make on the additional 1 lac crore float” 34:00 - The argument that UPI is a toll road so you should charge for this "public infra" “Credit cards transact about 100k crore a month, debit cards 60k crore per month, ATM withdrawals are at 300k crore per month…. So even now, after all these years, credit + debit card transactions are not more than cash” 41:00 - If you don't let players charge for UPI, who will fund innovation? “Internet protocols were free and they disrupted the world through innovation” “Interestingly, in the payments ecosystem, all innovation has come from the regulator and not private players” 43:40 - Counter arguments from Deepak's Twitter on why UPI shouldn't be free. 44:00 - Google and PhonePe did all the handwork to make UPI popular. Now you're telling me I can't make money on it? “You're building a road and they tell you... you can never charge a toll. But you still keep building that road… that's the payment apps for you” 50:00 - Let's say that the biggest private players leave because you won't let them make a profit. The top 2 guys control ~75% of all transactions. What happens to the ecosystem now? 1:02:00 - Why regulators have enforced limits on incentives and fees? “Financial regulation is not like tech where if you're too big, rules change for you. Here, if you are too big, and you disturb the system, the regulator first makes you small and then beats you” 1:05:30 - Government responses to the UPI monetization paper were very harsh. Why so? “Hoarding cash is ok. Spending that cash on the economy creates a whole new economic system that's outside the view of the government. That's not ok” “From Jan 2020 to now, the total ATM withdrawals are flat. UPI has gone from 120k crore to 1000k crore. The fact that UPI transactions are free has reduced cash transactions” 1:09:30 - The number of UPI transactions has drastically increased. But, is that all? The UPI tech reached its full maturity? What do we have to look forward to wrt UPI? 1:14:00 - UPI as a credit check for lenders and a game-changer for quick small loans   There's a lot more interesting stuff ahead with UPI. We're just getting started!

I thought I could do it all; fight for justice, fight my son's school, fight the council, do a podcast, be a single mum, work, look after a house, etc etc.. but I need to stop and start enjoying life. I'm taking December to re-evaluate and re-focus on myself and my son and get this podcast in order! I want to make sure I am doing justice to all the women that come on because they have been so brave in sharing their stories of adversity. I want to make sure they are heard, they deserve that. From Jan 6th 2022, we will be re-launching the podcast (again!) and you'll be hearing inspirational stories of women who overcame adversity EVERY THURSDAY at 10am UK time. From Jan 6th until today it has been one big lie. Food, drug and commodity shortages, rise in prices on food, gas, oil, and other energy, supply chain bottlenecks, everything has been a bold face lie. Inflation in Aug was 8.3% and is still rising today Meat Reserves are at a dangerously low level after farmers were made to kill their livestock supposedly because of COVID-19. The shipping issues are not due to the truckers they are manufactured by the U.S. Government. The cost from Shanghai to New York for a single shipping container has went from $2,000.00 to as much as $12,500.00. The Biden administration has destroyed our domestic economy, gas, oil and coal industries, and industry as a whole in the United States. Now farmers are being forced to not grow crops or destroy the crops they have. They get more money for destroying crops with lawn mowers to reduce the carbon footprint. While world leaders take 400 private Jets to a G-20 summit to discuss climate change, and our own POTUS uses an 85 car motorcade on the same trip. It's  Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TESLA DELIVERS ‘FULL SELF-DRIVING' BETA VERSION 9   - Tesla began sending out over-the-air software updates for its long-awaited “Full Self-Driving” beta version 9, the definitely-not-autonomous-but-certainly-advanced driver assist system.   - the software update (2021.4.18.12) began uploading after midnight on Friday, giving thousands of Tesla owners who have purchased the FSD option access to the feature   - Musk has been promising v9 of the software for, well, a while now. He said in 2018 that the “long awaited” version of FSD would begin rolling out in August. He did it again in 2019, proclaiming that “a year from now” there would be “over a million cars with full self-driving, software, everything.” Earlier this month, he claimed that “FSD 9 beta is shipping soon.”   - Release notes included with the update warn testers that “it may do the wrong thing at the worst time” and to avoid complacence. They also mention improvements to the cabin camera's driver monitoring to check for attentiveness, along with updated, larger visualizations on the in-car display   Original Source : https://www.theverge.com/2021/7/10/22570081/tesla-fsd-v9-beta-autopilot-update   EU COMMISSION PLANS CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE REQUIREMENTS   - According to a media report, the EU Commission is planning to give the member states concrete requirements for the expansion of the charging infrastructure as part of the eagerly awaited “Fit for 55” climate package. The package is to be published on 14 July.   - the Commission wants to oblige the states to guarantee at least one high-performance charging station at intervals of no more than 60 kilometres along the most important European motorways by the end of 2025.   - For heavy transport, the member states are also to ensure that there is a hydrogen filling station every 150 kilometres. The draft regulation on the infrastructure for alternative fuels also contains precise specifications on how powerful the charging stations must be in the years 2025, 2030 and 2035.   Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/07/09/eu-commission-plans-charging-infrastructure-requirements/?utm_source=pocket_mylist   RIVIAN OFFICIALLY CONFIRMS 2022 EUROPEAN SALES PLANS   - Rivian is already making plans to begin European sales in 2022. The company has confirmed it will deliver both its R1T electric pickup truck and R1S three-row SUV in Europe, with orders opening in "Early 2022." This information came from Rivian Owners Forum via an email from Rivian's Customer Engagement Center to a potential customer in Europe. The email says to expect Rivian sales in Europe "some time in early 2022". The forum shared:   "Rivian's plans for Europe have been under speculation for the past few months when it was reported that they were looking for factory locations in the United Kingdom, Germany and Hungary along with job posting to hire a "Senior Analyst, EMEA Delivery & Field Planning" (EMEA = Europe, Middle East & Africa". There was also a rumour that there could be smaller Rivian models for European and Chinese markets."    Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/519251/rivian-confirms-2022-sales-europe/   MG TOPPLES TESLA AS EVERY SECOND CAR SOLD IN SWEDEN NOW ELECTRIC   - Every second passenger car sold in Sweden in June was a plug-in electric vehicle – either a full battery EV or plug-in hybrid EV – with the Chinese made budget MG ZS EV beating the Tesla Model 3 to the top selling spot.   - Before a sweeping shift in the country's tax code came into effect at the start of July, Swedish EV sales skyrocketed as vehicles registered before the tax change will be taxed according to the old rate.   - June sale of EVs was likely juiced by a number of fleet-owners and dealers self-registering plug-in models so as to take advantage of the old rate.   - The consistent changes and fluctuations in Sweden's tax code and EV sales has nevertheless pushed the country's EV market to be just as large as neighbouring Norway   - less than 100 units separated Sweden from becoming Scandinavia's largest plug-in new passenger car market, with Norway registering 69,367 units and Sweden 69,280.   Original Source : https://thedriven.io/2021/07/09/mg-topples-tesla-as-every-second-car-sold-in-sweden-now-electric/       2023 HYUNDAI IONIQ 6 SPIED WITH DIGITAL SIDE MIRRORS   Original Source : https://www.carscoops.com/2021/07/2023-hyundai-ioniq-6-spied-with-digital-side-mirrors/   VOLVO'S C40 RECHARGE IS A SOLID SECOND STAB AT AN EV Original Source : https://www.engadget.com/copy-of-volvos-c-40-recharge-is-a-solid-second-stab-at-an-ev-163057572.html   QUESTION OF THE WEEK   JAN TORE from EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM As the perfect match of comfort, practicality, performance and price, my choice of car on the market today is the Volvo XC40, and I would be happy to drive it for another three years. The best seats, a lot of space – at least for our use, possibilities for our kayaks on the roof, possible to drag a trailer when needed, good enough range and charging speed, good infotainment system and a very safe car.    I did sign up for a subscription of an XC40 with Care by Volvo in January, and the plan was to have it for some mounts and then change it to another of the EVs. But I still have the car and don't want to change it. So instead, I did book a Fjord Blue C40, the perfect vehicle and colour for driving around Norway next year. If I get it, I will drive the C40 from Fredrikstad in the south of Norway to Tromsø or maybe further north in the end of November.     RAJEEV NARAYAN If I had to have only one car, for me it would have be a Tesla model Y. I drive about 80 miles a day and our non-Tesla DCFC infrastructure here in Texas is still very poor. For longer trips we use our PHEV Volt. My Chevy Bolt has over a 100K miles on it, and in fact I am looking at the model Y to replace it next year.   GRANTON SMITH I already have it (Tesla Model 3 SR+), although this is a compromise car for me because being in good Ol' Fossil Fuel lovin' Australia - we're not exactly spoiled for choice. At the present time, I would not seriously consider anything other than a Tesla, because of the Supercharger network. Nothing comes even remotely close to the convenience, and the sheer number of charging stations - I can get wherever I need to go using a combination of the SC network, and the currently free NRMA rapid charger network - yes, even in a country as big as Australia (I live in the Central West of NSW)   NICK CHRISTEN Sadly, my answer is 0. there is nothing large enough for my family (we have 8 kids; there is no suburban or other large vehicle that is electric currently…at least not in the US)   DAVID JOHNSON I actually answered this in real life with my 3 year lease for the Toyota Prius Prime. Here in Central NY State we don't have lots of charging options.  A PHEV made perfect sense in terms of satisfying my daily driving needs (98% EV only miles so far) and an ability to take impromptu road trips without any planning or apprehension. I'm currently getting 4.9 mi/KWh which is nearly 20% better than a Tesla and don't really miss the longer range.  If my ~33 mi range could go to 50 or 70 mi, I don't think I'd ever need any more than that.   MICHAEL LULCHAK I would go for the Tesla Model Y Long Range.  The range of the Mach E is disappointing, and the price of the Mach E is close enough to the Tesla that we would be silly to purchase the Mach E.   .  The problems that Hyundai have had with batteries, and how they have (NOT) handled it suggests to me that their user experience has not changed for the better.  So the hyundai (and by association the Kia) are not options for us.  At all.   MARK RICHARDS I currently drive a Bolt, but I am looking to buy an Ioniq 5 AWD when available this fall. f I had to buy an EV today and drive it for 3 years, I'd probably go pick up a Bolt EUV.  Small, fast, and now has ACC, Lane Keep, and even super cruise.  Second choice would be the ID.4, BUT in the USA we only have the anemic 200HP 0-60 in 8.5 second version available today.   ATLE YRI The only car for three years. I would stick with the car I already have: VW ID.4 1st Max. Plenty of space for both luggage and people. Long range and charges quickly should there be a need for it. Very comfortable, lots of new technology and it gets better with each upgrade that comes OTA.   RON BARBER, SAN JOSE The current trophy holder of the Electric Cannon Ball Run. From Jan 1, 2021. Porsche Taycan 4S. Reasons: 1. Vehicle Dynamics, 2. Build Quality, 3. Charging Speed 260-270kW to 43%.   BRENDAN HUTCHINS I'd still wait for my Cybertruck reservation and try to get by without it until it's out. I'm so unbelievably excited for it.    If for some reason I couldn't wait, I'd buy the Ford Lightning, cause even though I hate the look of it, I do love the vehicle to grid ability and more.    MARK ORRICO I'm quite pleased with my Niro, and I am stuck with it for 3 years as it's a lease. Any car in my price range currently available I'd probably stick with the Niro truthfully. If I was going to get away from my price range definitely the Porsche Taycan, it like the turbo s but would accept any one of them.    QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM   What's your ideal stop time on a long distance road trip? Whether you're driving an EV or not, how long would you usually be stationary? Let's find out how far away we are from EVs being a non-issue for extended driving.   Email me your thoughts and I'll read them out on Sunday – hello@evnewsdaily.com   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I'll catch you tomorrow and remember…there's no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.   PREMIUM PARTNERS PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE BRAD CROSBY PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI AUDI CINCINNATI EAST VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/

[...] "The three earliest race hate BBS systems were: Info. International Network, Aryan Liberty Net, and White Aryan Resistance (W.A.R.) Net. [...] "Next to come online (in late 1984 or early 1985) was the White Aryan Resistance BBS in Fallbrook, California, under the auspices of Tom Metzger. Metzger announced the “W.A.R. Computer Terminal” in War ‘85, the newspaper of his White Aryan Resistance (Metzger, 1985). It originally ran on a Commodore 64 with a 300 bps modem (Sills, 1989). Today, most modems run at 56,000 bps, but back then, 300 bps was cutting-edge technology. According to Metzger, “Already White Aryan comrades of the North have destroyed the free speech blackout to our Canadian comrades” (Metzger, 1985). One of the first messages sent out by Metzger was directed at “any Aryan patriot in America who so desires” to arrange for local cable access channel broadcast of Metzger’s new cable TV program “The World as We See It,” later renamed “Race and Reason.” During this same period, there were over one dozen call-in telephone hot lines with recorded messages containing racist and antisemitic material." Overthrow, April/May 1985. "One of our correspondents made an interesting discovery last month. She found the telephone number for one of the bulletin board systems operated by American Nazis. With this number she was able to log on and get the information that the media has lately been all bugeyed about. Now we are prepared to talk intelligently on the matter. [...] "Our point here is simply this: you computer hackers and phone phreaks that are reading this have the ability to uncover and analyze circumstances in ways that most people can't. Some of you have the ability to recognize touch tones by ear. A few can tell where their calls are going by the sounds they hear. And still others are able to get into more than a few major systems and find the interesting stuff almost immediately. There is a very definite need in this world for such intelligence. While Brewster fought with a 28-year-old airport bus driver named Mulugeta Seraw, his fellow white supremacist Ken Mieske repeatedly swung a baseball bat into Seraw's skull. Mieske kept hitting Seraw while Brewster, then 19, kicked him with steel-toed boots. Mieske was convicted of murder and Brewster was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in Seraw's death. Released from prison in 2002, Brewster went back behind bars in 2008 for violating his parole by associating with members of the white supremacist group Volksfront. While finishing his term, Brewster was convicted of assaulting a prison guard. [...] "A WW correspondent says he observed Brewster brawling with leftist counterprotesters in a melee on the Capitol lawn. Brewster was also photographed donning a respirator mask and carrying a can of hornet- and wasp-killing pesticide, which he sprayed at left-wingers during the clash. Amid the fighting, Brewster and at least three other right-wing brawlers allegedly tackled a single counterprotester and briefly beat that person."

From Jan to July this year, Mexico is the top trading partner of the United States, with two-way trade totaling $290.6 billion. With such increase of activities, here come bottle neck and in-balance challenges.  For examples, at the cross-border point in El Paso TX, the load to truck ratio is as high as 8:1 while the ratio at Laredo TX  skyrocketed to 15:1 (number of loads per truck). Since USMCA (United States Mexico Canada Agreement) is new (since July 2020), many people are trying to figure out their supply chain impact and future planning, and currently there is significantly less freight going into Mexico, meaning lack of drivers situation from Mexico to USA.  Some drivers (who live in Mexico or US) are trying cross the border to drive for their next truckloads are often stuck in the borders waiting for hours  (due to Covid-19 related additional inspections) and eventually give up and return home, amplifying driver shortage issue. Of course, recent weather uncertainty (hurricanes and storms) and surge of eCommerce and consumer behavior changes due to Covid-19 are adding additional complexity.  Will it be a new norm for US/MX cross-border?  How can multi-stakeholders including governments work together to improve the situation? We had a fascinating interview with Gubio Henrique - SVP at Redwood Logistics, Larry Hotz - Marketing Director at Woodfield Distribution, and Professor Tom Fullerton at University of Texas at El Paso.

The audio of the first 90 seconds of the meessge is spotty due to a recording issue. Fasting cultivates space and feeling for what matters most. Intro Have you ever experienced something sad but realize you weren't as sad as you should be? Perhaps there was a tragedy and everyone else is wailing and you are just chilling. Quietly wondering what’s wrong with you. Sometimes we don’t feel as we ought to. Just the other day I was feeling sad. And I thought to myself, there is nothing for you to be sad about. In fact, the day was fantastic. But sometimes we don't feel as we ought to feel. I can distinctly remember a number of times where I would be with a group of men and one guy confessed as to falling into some form of lust. And this guy, is absolutely broken about it. He has not stopped crying and his heart is ripped to shreds. Yet, I have fallen into lust before and barely felt like he does. Sometimes we don’t feel as we ought to feel. I remember one time hearing a sermon on Hell. And the absolute horrors that awaits those who reject Jesus. And a bunch of my roommates were wrecked. Everyone came home from the church that night quiet. Some just sat in the room and cried. I tried to act sad because I knew that was the fitting emotion but I didn’t. Last week, Pastor Ross confessed that he does not long for the return of Jesus like he should. And I think many of us would say similarly. But what do we do about that. Of course we pray and perhaps you may confess it with others. But what do you do when you don't feel as you are to feel? What do you do when you feel stuck? How do you long for Jesus when you don't long for Jesus? In our text we will see two people who both lived and felt as they ought to feel. They felt rightly about Jesus before, during, and afer they encountered Him. Above all else, they longed for the Messiah. Their entire life was arranged around their longing for the Messiah. After we look at their lives, we are going to take some principals and apply them to us. If you are not a Christian, we’re so very glad you’re here. Text Scope We will be focusing on the story of Anna starting in verse 36, but first, we have to go back to verse 22. This whole section is to be read together. Simeon and Anna are both after the same thing or better put, the same person. To understand one you have to understand the other. So we will do a an overview of Simeon first but it will be well worth it. Simeon (25–35) Here’s the scene, Joseph and Mary bring baby Jesus to the temple to go through the purification rites and while they are there, they encounter a man named Simeon. But before Simeon meets Jesus, Luke gives us the backstory about this guy starting in verse 25. Luke 2:25 ESV 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. Luke notes that Simeon is righteous and devout. And he explains what that looks like. That is, he is waiting for the consolation of Israel and the Spirit of God is upon him. What does this very religious sounding sentence mean, “The consolation of Israel?” This word consolation is the same word as comfort. If that’s the case, what does Israel need comforting from? Many commentators would argue that Luke is alluding to Isaiah chapter 40. Isaiah 40 begins a new section in the book that extends to chapter 66. It is chapter after chapter of how the Messiah will come and bring all wrongs to right. The context of these passages is that God’s people is in exile. Their loved ones have been massacred in front of their eyes, homes have been destroyed, they've been displaced into a foreign land, their temple has been destroyed and hope seems to be lost. Will the prophecy of 70 years in exile and then returned to the promise land stand? Let’s look at Isaiah 40. Isaiah 40:1–2 ESV 1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins. So what Simeon and Anna are looking for is a complete restoration that is both vertical with God, horizontal with others, and inward with self. This includes forgiveness of sins and peace with God. It includes peace in their land and no more wars. It includes the transformed heart that does not run towards wickedness. It looks like the rightful king from David's line reigning from Jerusalem. Although it is absolutely true that salvation is finding forgiveness with God, it represents so much more than that. This is something that is very hard for us Western Christian's to grasp because our Christianity and understanding of the gospel can be so individualistic. However, if you continue to read throughout Luke, we see that the gospel has good news for every area of brokenness in the world. And yet, if you are not trusting in Christ as your Lord and savior today, you have no peace with God. But Jesus, at great Cost to himself, made a way so that you can have peace with God forever. If you put your trust in Jesus and surrender control over your life, you will receive forgiveness for all your sins and be fully excepted as a child. Please come talk with us. Although Isaiah was speaking to Israel in exile, these passages were still relevant after they returned into their promised land. Even though they are back in their homeland, they are currently under the foot of the Roman empire and although they have a new temple, the Shekinah, this hyper concentrated manifest presence of God is not dwelling in there. In every way that matters most, Gods people were still in exile... Still living Exile is also a reality for us. For those who have trusted in Jesus, God has graciously pardoned all of our sins. However, Jesus is not physically reigning on this earth yet. The world is still deeply broken. So like Isaiah and like Simeon and Anna, we are longing for the consolation of the whole world. The comfort of the whole world. Jesus would come and save God’s people from their sins and it even talks about how he would eventually re-create our broken world to be a place where sin and suffering no longer exist. So Simeon, by the Spirit, identifies Jesus as the messiah who will bring comfort to everything. › Now we’re finally ready to meet Anna. Luke is going to give us a quick overview of who she is. Yet the brief details he gives tells us so much about what she’s like. Introducing Anna (vv. 36-37) Luke 2:36–37 ESV 36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37 and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. • It seems appropriate that she was the daughter of Phanuel, because Phanuel means “face of God,” and this is what Anna’s life was characterized by seeking the face of God. • She’s a prophetess. • But what is most extraordinary is that after being only married for seven years her husband passed away. And ever since then, she committed herself to continually worshiping the Lord by fasting and prayer for around 60–80 years depending on how you understand the Greek here. It’s ambiguous so the text is saying she could either have lived till 84 or was a widow for 84 years after her husband died which bring her to around 105 if she got married at the typical age of 12 to 14 years old for a female. Let’s dig deeper. There are two extremes in reading this passage: On one hand, we can over-read into the language and take it in a hyper literal sense. The reality is, she probably did leave the temple. In fact, there was nowhere for her to stay on the temple grounds. And it's not like she didn't eat or sleep for 60 years. If you do a word study on night and day you will see that it does not literally mean without stopping but stresses consistency and steadfastness. On the other hand, we can excuse this language and not feel the full gravity of this woman. For over 60 years she did not cease fasting and praying. Her husband most likely died when she was still in a marriageable age. Therefore, this shows a lot about who she is. Instead of remarrying, she committed herself to serve the Lord through prayer and fasting. And widowhood during this time was extremely dangerous because there was no social safety net apart from family. So her greatest means to have security was to remarry. Therefore, she cast herself on the mercy and provision of God to take care of her for all her days. She has thrown herself completely on the mercy and provision of God by choosing this path. I wonder how many of us are ignoring calls from God because we are wondering how he will provide before we decide to obey? › But we must continue in this passage. Her path is not to diminish the beauty and kingdom-value of marriage. Each of us have our own callings that we need to make thee most of wherever we find ourselves in. However, there is a single-mindedness that Paul talks about in first 1 Corinthians 7 that Anna was able to give herself to. She made the most of the season she was in. When I first read this passage, I wondered if she was fasting and praying because she was mourning her husband's death. Undoubtably, I am sure there was some of that, especially in the beginning. She longed for the day where she could see her husband and death will be no more. However, over time, it seemed that it moved towards the consolation of all things and not just her broken and mourning heart. This is clear by her reaction later on. This is a consistent pattern. A tragedy or trial leads us to desperation and that leads to greater dependence and love for Jesus. › We’re going to move back to fasting and prayer in the application section but let’s get to our final passage. Praising and Sharing (38) Luke 2:38 ESV 38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. What this passage is showing us is that whether through a leading of the Holy Spirit or through God's providence, Anna comes upon Simeon as he is prophesying over baby Jesus. And probably based off of her decades of longing and praying for the Messiah, she is able to identify by the spirit who Jesus is. Can you imagine what it was like for both Simeon and Anna? They have been longing and praying and fasting for their entire lives. We're not talking praying for something and then getting discouraged after a week of no answers. We are talking about decades after decades of an unmet longing. Can you imagine the joy for Simeon and Anna? Finally, they are face-to-face with the one they have been longing for their whole lives. There is a lesson for us who can be so impatient with God. We wait on God but then give up after just a short period of time. She give thanks to God but she doesn't just stop there. The text says that she spoke to Jesus to all who are waiting for the redemption Jerusalem. One scholar, James Edwards notes that, The Pillar New Testament Commentary: The Gospel according to Luke Simeon and Anna Receive Jesus in the Temple (2:21–40) In Greek, “gave thanks” and “spoke” (v. 38) are both in the imperfect tense, meaning that Anna continued giving thanks and testimony after the event. Therefore, there was a continual lifestyle of thanking and sharing after her encounter with Jesus. It wasn't a one time moment of zeal but she gave the rest of her days to thanking and testify. I want to be more like Anna. She wasn't just sharing with anyone, but those looking expectantly for the consolation. So this text is showing that there were others like them. Others who were persevering in their longing and looking for the Messiah. Redeemed Retirement Simeon and Anna are excellent examples for us when it comes to retirement. In our culture, retirement signals the end of hard work and the beginning of leisure. However these two show us that for the Christian, there is no such thing as a true retirement. Only a transition in ways we are serving. Until their deaths, they went hard after God and sat to serve him. Many can find their most productive ministry years to be had in their retirement years. I prayed and will continue to pray even more that God will send us Simmons and Annas! › Now let's bring home this text to our own lives. How shall we now live in light of this? How shall we now live? I'm going to assume that if you are a professing Christian, that you want Jesus to be your everything. I want to help those of you like me who already know that they don't long for Jesus like they want to. For those who feel stuck in their affections. They want more of Christ but they don't want more of Christ. But they want to want more of Christ. Going back to Simeon, after he holds Jesus and realizes who he is, he is finally satisfied and complete. His greatest bucket list is for filled. He can die now. The greatest longing of his heart is met. What’s your, Luke 2:29 ESV 29 “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; What’s your, if I had this, everything would be complete? Is it Jesus’ second coming? If it’s not, something is off. 2 Timothy 4:8 ESV 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. Do you love his appearing? What do you do if you don’t but want to? How do you awaken your heart when you feel it’s sleeping? How do you soften a hard heart when you feel like you don’t care as you ought to? Spiritual realities are dull to you 1st Repent Repent from your lack of longing and feeling rightly. For loving other things or people more. Receive God's forgiveness through Jesus. From that place of humility were you say, “Jesus I don't love you like I ought to, but I want to.” 2nd Fast I want to challenge you to embrace a lifestyle of fasting. Fasting is not for the super mature and spiritual. But those who aren’t. Those who don’t have everything together. › Let me take you to another passage that further expands fasting. Turn to Luke ch. 5. Luke 5:33–35 ESV 33 And they said to him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.” 34 And Jesus said to them, “Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? 35 The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.” In this passage, Jesus is showing us that there is a time for feasting and a time for fasting. When Jesus was bodily on the earth with his disciples, it was the time for them to feast because their bridegroom was there. But there will be a day coming and has come when the bridegroom is taken away and they will fast in those days as they long for His return. That is the day we are in. We’re in a complicated age where Christ has come and will come again. So we both feast and celebrate that he’s come through the Lord’s Supper, sabbaths, and more. But we also fast because he’s not here. There are a few different kinds of fasts in the Bible. However, I want us to focus on the bridegroom fast. That is, a fast that all believers engage in as they long for Jesus to return. Just like Anna longed for the Messiah to come, we too are longing for him. We long for the day he comes and removes everything that gets in between us and him. When our bridegroom comes and this final wedding is the beginning of the end of all evil and suffering. There are many nuts and bolts to fasten, but let me clarify a few things. • Fasting is voluntary and not something that you earn favor from God with. • However, fasting is expected for the Christian. Jesus speaks to his disciples on the sermon on the mount, he assumes they will be fasting and gives them guidelines. • Fasting in the Bible is only regarding food. However, many of the benefits of fasting can be found in part when we abstain from many different things. However, I want to call all of us to regular fasting of food. Fasting cultivates space and feeling for what matters most. Here are three benefits of the bridegrooom fast although there are many more: • Awakens us to reality • Increases our longing and dependency for Jesus • Cultivates space for more of Jesus Awakens us to Reality Throughout the gospels we see this picture of people who are either sleeping or expectantly watching for the return of the king. If Jesus were to return today, would he find you sleeping or looking? Or maybe if you want to be more charitable to yourself, you're not sleeping but you're definitely not looking? Oh that all of us would be eagerly looking like the watchmen wait for the morning and a lover wait at the airport entrance looking for his love to come through the doors. When we fast, we put our bodies in an unnatural state. We deprive itself of good and needed resources. We feel the pangs of hunger. We ache. We feel the lightheadedness when we get up quickly. We feel a sense that things are not as they are to be. And that is a good thing. Our bridegroom is not on the earth right now. So things are not right. Everything about our culture and flesh strives to put ourselves in positions in a state where we never feel lack. That we can feel a sense that this world is at peace when its not. It awakens our sleeping hearts to reality. If you lose a loved one, you can’t eat. But when you fast it cultivates desperation when you don’t feel. So when you don’t feel as you ought to, fast. Right now, I don’t love Jesus like I have in the past. So I’m fasting a lot more to cultivate my passion for Jesus. › The second is like the first Increases our longing and dependency for Jesus When we feel the longing for food, we can say to the Lord, I want food, but I want you more. Even though I often don't want you as my supreme desire, I want that to be true. Fasting, especially a consistent lifestyle of fasting Stokes our longing for God. A Hunger for God: Desiring God through Fasting and Prayer Crying for Him Day and Night Fasting poses the question: do we miss him? How hungry are we for him to come? The almost universal absence of regular fasting for the Lord’s return is a witness to our satisfaction with the presence of the world and the absence of the Lord. As we feel the discomfort of fasting, it reminds us how much we need Jesus. I need God to move whenever I’m preaching but not as much as I ought to. So I’m fasting to remind myself how much I need him. Cultivates space for more of Jesus The withholding of food and other things is what frees up the time and attention to engage into spiritual matters. Fasting and prayer are Siamese twins that cannot be separated. You cannot engage in abstaining if you are not engaging. Fasting creates space for more abiding. Fasting also helps bring to the surface idols of our heart. Areas of our life that we are idolizing. Fasting exposes what controls us. Fasting cultivates space and feeling for what matters most. A Call to Fast and Pray in January This January, the pastors and I are calling the whole church to embrace a lifestyle of fasting and prayer. What that will look like is going to vary for every single person and seasons. I hate fasting but I love what it does for me. This is not a call for people who like fasting or hate food or like punishing themselves. It is for those who want more of Jesus. As the fasting creates space we will have more space to abide in the Word. So, we’re going to call all members to memorize Romans 8. We realize many won’t get it 100% but the goal is steeping in this very powerful passage over a month. From Jan 6th-12th the pastors will be fasting food completely and we want invite you to join us in some form or fashion if God leads you. We will break the fast together with a meal after the gathering on the 12th and with worship and prayer. There are three primary focuses for this fast. 1. Increase our longing and loving of Jesus 2. Salvation of an unbelieving friend 3. Breakthrough in a personal area We’re going to do a mid-week podcast that will get into more nuts and bolts on fasting. All the do’s and don’ts. We will also have blogs and be available to help coach you through this. We will also get into scripture memory. Corporate Dreaming What if our whole community gave ourselves to longing and looking for Jesus? What if everyone embraced a lifestyle of fasting? Imagine the kind of breakthrough we would have? • Greater love and affection for Jesus. • Breakthrough in fighting our sin and breaking off addiction. • Healing and flourishing of marriages. • Increased boldness for gospel proclamation. • Many more unbelievers baptized into the family. • Empowered disciple-making Jesus Conclusion Dear Church, Christ has come and he will come again. Isn’t he wonderful? Don’t you want him? He’s coming and when he comes he’s going to bring all things to right. He’s going to meet every longing as he’s the source of all our longings. • You can long to no longer be lonely and seek to get Married but when Jesus returns he’ll end all loneliness. • And you can long for acceptance and you can seek to improve yourself so that people would except you but when Jesus returns he’ll end all rejection and insecurity. • You can long for healing for some sickness or injury but when Jesus returns he’ll end all sickness and pain. The Spirit and the bride we say come Lord Jesus! Benediction and Commission? Revelation 22:20–21 ESV 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.

Episode 14- Two toned CabinetsNot one color but two colors for kitchen cabinets? Yep! Coming up of Episode 14 of South Metro Denver Real Estate Report**Music** Recording from South Denver where the real estate market fluctuates as much as our weather this is South Metro Denver Real Estate Report and I am your host Joy Fraser licensed broker and owner of Colorado Luxury Houses powered by Keller Williams. This is Episode 14- Two Toned CabientsReal Estate Report for South Metro Denver- It’s the end of the 1st quarter of 2019 and I am going to do a quick recap of total sales for the entire Denver Metro area. From Jan to March there were 6,198 active properties on the market, 7,819 properties under contract, and 13,125 properties closed. The average closed price was $458,500 and the average days on market was 52. We are still in a seller’s market and properties that are priced right are going under contract! What’s Hot!Two toned kitchen cabinets! I was showing a house yesterday and my clients commented on the kitchen and that it had two colors on the upper and lower cabinets. It’s totally popular right now to have a dark cabinet on the bottom and then a light color on the top. If you have an island it is commonly the color of the lower cabinets. The house that we were looking at, and that they are buying congrats guys! Had a really really pretty dark blue lower cabinet that had a bit of black in it and white upper cabinets. The only thing I would add, which I am sure these clients could and quite possibly would add are some floating shelves! Tip of the Day-If your cabinets are olders and maybe the builder oak cabinets go ahead and give them a coat of paint or two different colors of paint. The trick is to sand the heck out of the cabinets first and use a really good primer and paint. We painted our cabinets when we purchased our current house in 2014 and they still look great thanks to Benjamin Moore Advance Paint. No this isn’t an ad it really is just amazing paint and I want you to know about it! Truth or Fail-What’s the best paint for landlords and house flippers? One More Thing- So I have a quick success story for Keller Mortgage. A buyer recently closed on a property and save upwards of $5000. Because the buyer was saving so much money they were able to buy down their already competitive interest rate not once but twice! Ep. 68: Christine Todd Whitman – Vice Chair of Eisenhower Fellowship board, the 50th Governor of New Jersey, and former Administrator of the EPA for President George W. Bush ||   On episode 68 of Sourcing Matters we welcome Governor Christine Todd Whitman, the Vice Chair of the Eisenhower Fellowships board of Trustees. Joining as co-host is Eisenhower Fellow, Jennifer Hashley – the founder of the The New Entry Sustainable Farming project, and Pete & Jen’s Backyard Birds. Governor Whitman is American Republican politician and author who served as the 50th Governor of New Jersey, from 1994 to 2001, and was the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the administration of President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2003.  Whitman was New Jersey’s first and, to date, only female governor, and also the first Republican woman to be reelected governor. Governor Christine Whitman is currently President of The Whitman Strategy Group (WSG), a consulting firm that specializes in energy and environmental issues. From Jan. 1994 – Jan. 2001 – Whitman served as the 50th Governor of New Jersey. During our dialogue we learn that the Governor of the State of New Jersey constitutionally has the most power of any Governor in all of the 50 states.  We must understand that during her tenure – Christie Whitman earned praise from both Republicans and Democrats for her commitment to preserve a record amount of New Jersey land as permanent green space. She was also recognized by the Natural Resources Defense Council as having instituted the most comprehensive beach monitoring system in the nation. As part of our 45 minute conversation we discuss her transformative work with the EPA to introduce legislation which held perpetrators for Brownfield contamination (a former industrial or commercial site where future use is affected by real or perceived environmental contamination) accountable.   We learn that it was Ronald Reagan who introduced climate change as cornerstone in the national security discussion. Now, using that as a call to action for all leaders no matter which side of the aisle, Whitman clearly differentiates between climate concerns vs. weather.  And, how polarization and finger pointing has been impetus for a political divide tied appreciation for climate change which has arisen together over the past 20 years ago. As the Vice Chair of the Eisenhower Fellowship Board of trustees we learn how Gov. Whitman’s current role as an ambassador and mentor to a global community of future leaders continues to inspire her work.  Core to the mission of the fellowship program, Whitman states that “We have more alike than different.”  When asked what advice she has for folks seeking hiring office or for those seeking to become a Head of State – she explains “do the job you’re in, and the next one will come with hard work and commitment.”   Great advice for us all. Well good morning, good afternoon and good evening, wherever you are in the world, hello and welcome to the Friday 13th July edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport.   TESLA IS FIRST TO HIT 200,000 EV SALES IN NORTH AMERICA It's the news InsideEVs has been chewing over for a few days, on one hand have they, on the other haven't they. Well we heard direct from Tesla yesterday, they have. I'm talking about 200,000 sales. "Tesla Inc has delivered 200,000 electric cars in the United States, a spokesperson said on Thursday, resulting in lower tax credits for future buyers." according to Reuters: "Under a tax overhaul last year, tax credits are available for the first 200,000 electric vehicles sold by an automaker. It is then reduced by 50 percent every six months until it phases out. From Jan. 1 next year, the current $7,500 tax credit will go down to $3,750 until the middle of the year, the Tesla website said. So it looks like they held back deliveries until July 1st and it's incredible it really did come down to just the final few cars and keeping them away from buyers.   https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tesla-tax-credit/tesla-hits-200000-cars-meaning-lower-tax-credit-for-buyers-idUSKBN1K222F   GOOD NEWS FOR EV DRIVERS - OIL PRICES ON THE RISE "Despite short term peaks and valleys, and a recent agreement by OPEC to ease production restrictions, the overall trend in oil prices is on the rise." if you saw this on GreenCarReports: "Bernstein research, an investment research company, which forecast last week that oil could hit $150 a barrel by 2020, just a couple of years from now, according to an article in the Energy Security Weekly Update. Those levels would surpass the $147 per barrel that oil hit in 2008, and could represent nearly a doubling of today's gas prices. (Oil closed around $70 on Wednesday.). If Bernstein's forecast proves correct, it could provide a big boost for electric cars and bolster forecasts showing dramatic growth for electric cars between 2020 and 2040."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1117681_oil-prices-could-double-by-2020-boosting-electric-car-sales   YOUNG PEOPLE BANG UP FOR ELECTRIC CARS, OLD PEOPLE NOT SO KEEN "A survey asking young people what kind of car they might buy were they to ever have any money has thrown up a massive divide in age-related opinion, with the under-35s much more likely to consider going non-petrol and full-EV than their parents and grandparents." reports Gizmodo: "The poll was conducted for the AA by Populus, and asked 10,000 people some fairly boring questions about cars. The key stat as far as EV enthusiasts are concerned is that electric cars are vastly more acceptable to young people, with 50 per cent of drivers aged 34 and under saying they would like to own an electric car. This plummeted to just 25 per cent of drivers aged over 65, as worries about range, charging cables and the like make petrol and diesel the favourite choices for pensioners."   AA DEVELOPS EUROPE’S FIRST MOBILE FAST CHARGER FOR ELECTRIC CARS News from Ireland. "The AA has developed the electric equivalent of “a gallon in a tank” – a mobile fast charger that can give stranded drivers a boost to get them back on the road." Tim O'Brien for the Irish Times says: "The first of their kind in Europe, the mobile charging units are powered directly by the AA Rescue Van as opposed to a separate generator. On average, the AA will be able to provide an electric vehicle with approximately 15 per cent of full battery charge in just 20 minutes, allowing the motorist to then proceed to the nearest charging point."   SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON PROPOSES TO INSTALL 48,000 MORE CHARGING POINTS "The Charge Ready network, launched two years ago as a pilot program by Southern California Edison (SCE), recently installed its 1,000th charging station. Now SCE has filed a plan with the California Public Utilities Commission to invest $760 million to expand the program to 48,000 (!) more charging points." according to Charles Morris at ChargedEV: "Most of the charging stations added during Charge Ready’s pilot phase were installed at workplaces, schools and universities, hospitals, destination centres and fleet yards. In the second phase, SCE plans to increase the number of chargers at apartment and condominium complexes as well."   https://chargedevs.com/newswire/southern-california-edison-proposes-to-install-48000-more-charging-points/   ELON'S BLOOMBERG INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTS Fred at Electrek has picked out some of the highlights of a recent interview with Elon Musk and BLoomberg: "“The past year has been very difficult, but I feel like the coming year is going to be really quite good,” he said. He still had “one foot in hell.” He said manufacturing hell will be over in a month. “I feel like I have a great debt to the people of Tesla,” he says, his voice cracking with emotion. “The reason I slept on the floor was not because I couldn’t go across the road and be at a hotel. It was because I wanted my circumstances to be worse than anyone else at the company. Whenever they felt pain, I wanted mine to be worse. “You know,” he continues, “at GM they’ve got a special elevator for executives so they don’t have to mingle with anyone else. My desk is the smallest in the factory, and I am barely there,” he says. “The reason people in the paint shop were working their asses off was because I was with them. I’m not in some ivory tower.” Fred also says: "The automaker investor relation team held a meeting with investors and analysts this week and the company reportedly disclosed that they are now aiming for a production rate of 7,000 per week by the end of the year and 10,000 per week by mid-2019."   https://electrek.co/2018/07/12/elon-musk-tesla-production-model/   MCLAREN ANNOUNCE ELECTRIC PLANS McLaren Automotive, which saw record Canadian sales in 2017, plans to invest US$2.1 billion as it prepares to launch 18 new cars by 2025. Electrification will be a cornerstone of McLaren's investment, the British automaker said Thursday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in rural southern England. McLaren, of which Canadian Michael Latifi owns 10 per cent, plans to convert its sports car and supercar fleet to hybrids by 2025 as it prepares for tighter emission standards around the world.   COMMUNITY   You can listen to all previous 177 episodes of this podcast on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, YouTube, TuneIn, Stitcher, and the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. (From Jan 2014) If you've bought into the simplified notion that genes are top-down bosses, issuing marching orders that your cells, body and brain merely obey, it's time to rethink. Biobehavioral scientist Steve Cole and colleagues are assembling a new picture of genes that don't just talk, but also listen. Though scientists have long known that external inputs affect gene regulation (which genes are switched on or off), the degree to which large numbers of genes are influenced moment-to-moment by our experiences – including our social life, our feelings and perceptions – is an important developing story. Steve and I talked about this new understanding of the mind-body connection, how feelings and perceptions may impact the immune system via changes in gene regulation and the emerging field he calls “social genomics.” After hearing this interview, you may never feel the same about your genome again.

From Jan van Eyck's Ghent Altarpiece commemorating the 1415 conquest of Ceuta to Flemish tapestries that documented the 1471 taking of Tangier, this lecture will consider: "portraits of power" in the context of chivalric ideals; the imaging of triumph in the clash of arms; the palatine display of tapestries as a visual chronicle of a contemporary epic; and the fame accrued from Portuguese expeditions to North Africa which initiated an age of navigation and a transformation of the medieval world picture. Will Chandler is an Independent Curator and the owner of Chandler Art Consulting Services. A former Curator of Decorative Arts at SDMA, in the 1980s he directed the conservation of the Museum's early 18th Century "Pillage" tapestry from the "Second Art of War Series." His presentation will illustrate the circumstances and techniques that led to this tapestry's creation, its expressions of continuity with the Pastrana Tapestries and of the artistic changes that followed them, and the variety of ways in which it has been interpreted since its arrival in San Diego in 1926.
