Tim Ferris is working on a new book about saying “no” and has posted the introduction online. In this episode, Cal reads an excerpt from this introduction and then tries to make sense of it with a metaphor about a shipwreck that helps unwind the complexity of dealing with the scourge of having too much to do. Cal then answers listener questions and reacts to a productivity meme inspired by a recent episode. Find out more about Done Daily at DoneDaily.com! **One of the best ways to ignite your own cozy FIRE is to live life as a lazy digital nomad. And all you need to do is browse the Internet and type things on your keyboard. We're lighting a FIRE the easy way on the ProcrastiN8r Podcast 2 weeks ago (lvl 11. I said 10 but it's 11 and I'm too lazy to re-record the whole thing) we talked about how to FIND your niche. Today we're looking at.... Top 10 Ways on how to WRITE CONTENT for your niche...with as little effort as possible Without further ado, let's BURN...right into it You can't just blog to everybody! Blogging to everybody is blogging to nobody. Find. Your. Niche. NEWSJACKING (or as I call it “Procrasi-logging) involves finding a relevant trending topic and repurposing it for your own blog 10. Look at Your Competition AppSumo Look up a topic, then see the top articles related to that keyword View social media share stats for Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit as well as Total Engagement. Evergreen score (how long after it's published is it still being shared?) Take a look at magazine websites (headlines, images, language/slang used) Subscribe to top content creators in your niche. To find blogs, get an RSS Reader like Feedbin, Feedly, Inoreader, or Flipboard Listen to podcasts. Watch YouTube and Twitch. 9. Read the News Search Google News for a topic related to your niche and look at the top articles. Go to a site like AllTop or Reddit to find topic specific news (niche specific) Look at an article, video, or podcasts as if you're in the room talking to them in a conversation. What can you add to the conversation? What insight is missing? Can you add a joke or something funny? 8.See What People Are Talking About and How They Are Engaging RedditList Type keyword related to niche, find relevant subreddits You could look at the official Reddit as well to find But Redditlist includes Subscriber rank (compared to other subreddits) and subscriber growth. Reddit list does NOT include all subreddits. Search relevant hashtags on Twitter, groups or Pages on Facebook, Pins on Pinterest, stories and posts on Instagram. See which posts are getting the most engagement and what type of emotional reaction the commenters are having. Write content that purposely sparks that emotion in your language (anger, sadness, joy, laughter, fear, etc.) Look at the comments of what people are saying on reddit, blog posts, and news sites. Pay attention to what's happening in the conversation. Are there points you agree with and could build upon with your own spin or maybe something you disagree with. 7. Find Out What People Are ASKING About What do people in your niche want to know? What are some common problems or concerns? Attend Livestreams and Webinars. Take notes not only on the content itself but What are people asking? What kind of comments are they saying? Look at FAQs of sites within your niche and build content answering them in your own words. (eg. There might be “How do I get rid of background noise like fans in my audio?” on a software like Audacity or Adobe Audition or “How do I promote my brand on Facebook” on a site related to online marketing or “How do I receive dividends?” on a stock exchange site/app) 6. Always C&P Participate in forums and Reddit discussions yourself. Comment on FB posts, YouTube videos, Instagram photos. Answer questions on Quora, ehow, or Yahoo Answers. Amazon and other shopping sites are great if your niche is more product focused; you can look at the reviews and asked questions. Copy and Paste your own comments into a note taking app like Evernote, Microsoft OneNote, Dropbox Paper, or Google Keep. Tag it with relevant tags and give it a title so you'll remember the gist of what you're saying at a glance. Include a link to the comments. Color code it to make it easy to find in the future Remember: it's important to ALWAYS copy & paste your comment BEFORE you even post it, maybe even create a note first and copy it from there. Because if someone deletes your comment or their post or changes the privacy settings or blocks you (or shuts down the website altogether if it's a forum/blog), it's gone FOREVER. You can't necessarily rely on the Web Archive.org. Keep your own records of the thing you say online related to your niche. You'll thank me later. 5. Save It For Later Take advantage of Pinterest's “secret boards” to collect ideas for blogs or craft projects in the future Similarly, you can save links, images, and videos on FB's Save for Later feature. You can change your privacy settings for a specific post you create so “Only You” can see it then just save it for later. You can Save Reddit posts and comments. Save articles you find on the web & you plan to re-write or read/comment on with the click of a button using a bookmarking app like Evernote Webclipper, Pocket, Pinboard, or Instapaper. You can also just use the built-in bookmarking feature in your browser, since nowadays you can signin to Chrome or FireFox or Edge or whatever and sync your bookmarks and history across multiple devices. 4. Chat it up! In your daily life, you talk to your friends and family about the things you like. Take note of the points made in the conversation or use the recording app on your phone. The note apps (google Keep, etc) also allows to save voice notes. Or heck, record the conversation (with permission, don't be a creep) on your phone. Start a forum topic and see where the discussion leads. Repurpose it for a blog post. When you reach enough notoriety and level of trust and authority, people will come to you with questions on social media. Actually reach out and talk to people. Hit them up in their DMs. Note the type of questions they're asking you. And if you're not established as a source of authority in your niche yet: Find people that are. Interview guests. Record it then transcribe it, using the autotranscibe tool Scribie. All you do is ask questions and they give answers. You don't even have to know anything. 3. Share It Write a quick blurb about a video or photo or infographic and share it as a post You can even re-word top rated comments already said on other sites. This is one of the laziest ways to create content. Find something already being liked and shared then make a comment similar to one that's also being liked/upvoted/gilded in your blog post. 2. Rinse & Repeat it Find a way to recycle old content, dig it back up and make it look a bit different by re-wording it. This works well if your in a niche that requires advice. You'll find yourself repeating the same advice over and over again. But that's okay, our brains learn from repeated information and stimuli. Use an online thesaurus to get suggestions for alternative words to use in your writing. You can also take a specific quote from an interview and do a deep dive/analysis of it. All that is is rewording what the person said in several different ways. The only thing you are doing is taking previously written or spoken words and rearranging them or replacing them with similar words. You simply express the content using different vocabulary. See what I did there? 1. Go Behind the Scenes Show pictures of your office, recording setup, gear, etc. Show things from your personally life (the game you're playing, the movie you're watching, the pizza you're eating, etc.) You should only do this on occasion. The site is about your niche and not your personal diary. 0. Talk about what you already talked about but do it a bit different Self explanatory. You get the point now. What to Avoid Writing: Verbatim (word for word) Fake News (unless that's your niche) Sounding boring How to Find Your Niche the Easy Way I said this episode was Lvl 10, but it's actually Lvl 11 and I'm too lazy to re-record and fix it. Meh whatever. You'll figure it out. Get Free Images for Your Blog: FreePik NeedPix**

Strangely, I don't recall the Codemasters games, but I do remember a brand called Mastertronic, who sold mostly garbage, but occasionally really good games for £1.99. The interesting thing was that these were sold not in Computer shops, but in Newsagents and Petrol Stations, making them accessible and affordable for kids. They were terrific value. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Nudging My Way Out Of The Intellectual Mosh Pit, published by Elizabeth on January 15, 2022 on LessWrong. As part of my ongoing effort to improve my cost/benefit ratio on social media, I'm nudging myself away from intellectual mosh pit platforms like Facebook and Twitter, and towards blog posts, articles, videos essays, etc. Really longform consumption (e.g. books) remains about the same, my limitations on that are mostly my insistence on fact-checking nonfiction and very narrow tastes in fiction, this post is about changing what I reach for when I'm bored in a line. Towards that goal I have made a few changes, which I list here roughly in ascending order of how much effort they were: Put all of my screens in greyscale. If you only try one thing on this list, make it this one. It takes five seconds to test once you have instructions, and the relief for me was immediate and has lasted days so far. Every time I have to turn color on to look at graphs I resent it. Instructions for OS X. Instructions for iPhone and older Android (untested). Instructions for modern Android. Windows users: you're on your own I only use Windows for games. Discovered the existence of Focus Mode for android, which allows you to use the internet but disables notifications. All of the Focus Mode instructions require several clicks into a deep menu. You can access it more easily by enabling the relevant fast-access card, using the instructions for older Android phones above. Moved all my short-OODA-loop apps off my phone home in favor of long-OODA-loop apps. The newly defavored apps include obvious candidates like Twitter, but also all messaging apps and Chrome itself. The new stars include my article aggregator, as well as very long-form content like Kindle, Audible, and PodCatcher. The home screen continues to hold non-content-consumption apps I want to access quickly, like Maps, Calendar, etc. Resumed use of a read-it-later tool, which lets me save cool articles I see on social media to be consumed when I'm in a better head space (I can't switch between reading microblogs and regular blogs quickly – different headspace ). Switched to an RSS reader that lets me read things out of order without marking earlier articles as Read. Combined my RSS feeds, email newsletters, and saved articles in a single service (that lets me read in any order) so I can choose from all my essay-length options at once. This was a stupid amount of effort and yak shaving and it's not pretty but I got it working. Most of this post will be about that. How to Combine All Article-Length Content The following instructions work with both Inoreader and Feedly. I eventually chose Inoreader but it was a close call and your mileage may vary. Import your existing RSS feeds to Inoreader. Feedly instructions. You have two options for saving arbitrary content to your new aggregator. Inoreader has a built-in feature to do this with a Chrome plugin, but there's no way to see saved articles and RSS articles in the same list. So if that's important for you. Sign up for Pocket, the leading read-it-later app, and configure Pocket to put your saved articles on an RSS Feed, then add that RSS feed to Inoreader per normal. Install the save to Pocket extension in your browser to make it easy to add to the feed as you come across things you want to read at some point (note: not available for Android, so I have to manually copy the URL and open the Pocket app). All articles in the saved-to-Pocket feed will show in Inoreader as having the same author (“my content feed”) and they won't have the body of the article, only the title and header image. I really care about having all of my articles in the exact same place, but if you don't, just using save-to-Inoreader will save you several steps. You also have two options for newsletters. In this episode I review Eric Skwarczynski's Top 10 tips for growing your podcast to 40,000 downloads per week (he's achieved this in just 18-months, he says). Who is Eric Skwarczynski? I have no more an idea than you do, but he's got some decent tips and I'd like to talk about them. After that you'll hear questions from Christian Smith and Fuzz Martin. Then you'll hear my answers to those questions. Have I been helpful to you in this episode? https://buymeacoffee.com/tannerhelps (Consider buying me a beer by clicking here). Notes Important Correction: 40,000 downloads per month, not 40,000 subscribers. Eric publishes once per week. That's 40,000/4.3 = ~9300 listeners. [00:00:49] Andrew tells us Brittany Martin released a great podcast episode with Evan Phoenix and Marty Haught, about behind the scenes of Railsconf, and a story about how a man’s submarine was running Ruby. [00:04:56] We hear about Andrew’s move and the crazy things that happened before he moved, which included his house catching on fire and finding a place to live in Arizona during a housing shortage, and his experience shopping for furniture at IKEA for the first time in his life! ☺[00:11:40] Andrew talks about smart home he lives in now, getting Raspberry Pi 3, and going all out Apple buying an iPad, TV, an HomePod mini. Also, Chris and Andrew talk about the Nanoleaf shape hexagon lights that they think are so cool. [00:17:03] Chris and Andrew discuss what’s new in Ruby on Rails land, and newsletters are discussed. Andrew tells us about Inoreader that he’s a huge fan of! He also announces a newsletter that he’s doing with Collin Jilbert called, Ruby Radar. [00:24:14] Some other news in the Rails world, we find out although there are no signs of when Rails 7 is shipping, there is at least some nice summaries of what’s changed, and Chris and Andrew discuss the improvements. [00:30:35] Andrew brings up a Tweet that was on the Ruby on Rails account and a question about which debugging drop in do you use. Chris talks about Crystal and checking out LuckyCasts videos. [00:36:18] Chris tells us he just merged the Turbo Native registration into Jumpstart and the Swift iOS app. [00:39:22] Andrew brings up a previous episode with Joe Masilotti, where he talked about iOS related stuff, that’s worth listening to if you haven’t yet.[00:42:07] We find out that RubyConf 2021 is happening this November in-person! How do I come up with an idea for episodes? This show just celebrated 14 years in podcasting, and I would be lying if I said it was easy to come up with ideas for an episode every week. I will say this. There are some episodes that I feel are great, and I get no feedback on, and others that I feel I took out of the oven a little early and maybe were not quite ready to go to the public, and I get tons of feedback. I've also had a few shows that finding new ideas for episodes took all the fun out of doing the podcast, and so I shut the showdown. Think Twice When Setting Your Schedule I always advise my clients to record a few episodes so they can make an educated decision. Once you see how long it takes to create an episode you can look at your current obligations and schedule and figure out where you are going to squeeze in your podcast. While you don't have to have a consistent schedule, I feel it really helps. Why? Because when you release on a predictable schedule, you become part of their routine. How To Never Run Out of Ideas For Your Episode You know I have to start with value. I can put out episodes every day and not have a problem if I don't care about delivering value. However, I deeply care about delivering value so it can be a struggle. Here are some ideas: Facebook Groups If there are Facebook groups around your genre, you can join these and just listen. By seeing what people are talking about you can create content that you know will resonate with your audience. How do you do this? Go to Facebook.com and in the search bar at the top of the Facebook screen type in whatever your show is about and see if there are any Facebook groups. Google Alerts Google Alerts is a tool where you put in a topic, it scours the web, and emails you links to stories with that word or phrase. It's not a bad idea to setup an alert for the name of your show so you can track if anyone is talking about you, or infringing on your trademark. Subscribe to Blogs on Your Topic You can use a tool like Feedly or InoReader so you can login to one place and see what is happening in your space. Following Conversations on Twitter Using Tweet Deck you can do a search for a topic and then take that search and add it as a column of information. Consuming More Content If you use Chrome there is an extension creatively named "Video Speed Controller" that allows you to watch videos faster. New Releases on Amazon You can go to Amazon and look at new releases in your category and then have that information sent to you in an RSS feed. (which you can use in Feedly or inoreader). Search Engine Keyword/Idea Suggestion Ubdersuggest is a free tool that has TONS of used, but it does have a Content Ideas tool where you enter a subject and it will spit out ideas, and show you how popular they are. Answer the Public is a very creative tool that you type in a subject and it gives you a list of questions that people may be searching for (that you can export as a CSV file). Both these tools are free. What is Popular on YouTube? YouTube is the second largest search engine. You may have heard of it. With this in mind, you can search for your topic at YouTube. Find a channel that primarily covers your topic and then click on videos, and on the right-hand side click on Sort by > Most Popular. If you do this on my channel you will see my top videos are How to record Skype the easy way Anchor.fm Review Watch Before Using Why you should NOT use Soundcloud as a media host What is a podcast? Understanding the mechanics of podcasting. The idea here is not to steal someone's content. The idea is to see what is popular and then see if you have an opinion, insight, or story about that topic. Maybe there are a couple of topics you could combine to create a new look on an old subject. Resources For Interviews Check out the Guest Booking resources at https://podcastingresources.com/listing-category/podcast-guest-booking/ What if Someone Else Has Already Talked About This Subject? There are times when you may notice that your "competition" may have talked about a subject you want to talk about. Go ahead and talk about it here is why: In the USA every night there are at a bare minimum of six different stations reporting on politics. People want to hear what YOU think about something. You are assuming people listen to BOTH you and your "competition (and that may not be the case). One of the best ways to ignite your own cozy FIRE is to live life as a lazy digital nomad. Get Free Images for Your Blog: FreePik NeedPix

The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast
Todd Lohenry | Online Reputation | Thought Leadership Show Notes: http://ryanrhoten.com/toddstips On today's show I welcome back to the show Todd Lohenry from toddlohenry.com. Todd's first appearance on the podcast where we discussed thought leadership and online reputation management at a strategic level can be found HERE. A thought leader himself , Todd's passion is helping thinkers become thought leaders in their own right using a process he calls the elevation workflow. When Todd was last on we walked through each of the nine steps in his elevation workflow at a higher more strategic level This time we're going to dive a little deeper and talk about the tools and apps Todd uses to help facilitate and execute the elevation workflow process. Contemplate Consider your avatar and how you can be in strategic alignment with your audience. This will help you speak their language and meet their expectations. Tools to help determine your avatar's language: Google search, Google Trends, and Google Adwords keyword planner. TIP: During a basic Google search scroll to the bottom of the page. There you will find additional more niche keywords and phrases suggested by Google. Consume & Curate The tools and applications used during the consume and curate steps can be the same. Todd uses them to divide content into four buckets; sites (website), searches (Google searches), sources (current thought leaders you follow) and someday maybe information. Todd looks to RSS content readers to help both consume and curate content. He recommends the following RSS readers; Digg, Feedspot, Feedly and Inoreader. Todd's favorite is Inoreader. He created an easy to follow video on how to use inoreader which you can find on YouTube. If you're interested in Inoreader Todd recommends a One Note document created by Marjolein Hoekstra. I reviewed the document and can tell you it is very comprehensive. You can find Marjolein at CleverClogs.org Create Todd recommends the self-hosted version of WordPress, which is WordPress.org. I put together a step-by-step video to show you exactly how to this. You can have a website up and running in as little as 5 minutes. Todd discussed in detail how you can use a WordPress plugin called Jetpack to send a simple email which will post directly to your site as a blog post. If you can send an email, you can start building your online reputation. Other tools include Microsoft's OneNote and Word. Both give you word precessing power and spell checking capabilities. Another tool Todd recommends for Mac users is an application from Red Sweater called MarsEdit. I personally use an application called DeskPM. Of course you can also publish using the post area directly from your WordPress blog. The reality is there are so many options for publishing online today the only excuse you really have, is yourself. I wrote about that HERE. If you're concerned about the learning curve checkout my FREE course to help you get started with WordPress at DIY Website GUY. Collect Todd uses a freemium tool called RebelMouse. He uses this tool to pull together all of the sites and sources he follows into one page. This page can be added into your WordPress website for others who follow you to enjoy as well. This gives your audience an additional reason to come to YOU to seek information on a particular topic or niche. Connect This is where social media comes into play. Todd's advice for connecting on social media is to use exactly the number you need and one more. The choice of which social network to use should be based on where your audience hangs out. Todd does recommend however two platforms for strong consideration; Google Plus and Twitter. For Twitter Todd uses a tool called BuzzSumo to determine the information being shared in your niche and who the influencers are you should pay attention to. Google + For Google Plus Todd recommends checking out Friends Plus Me. Friends Plus Me enables you to autopost your content to other platforms after first posting to Google Plus. Using Friends Plus Me in this way allows you to focus on only one platform, specifically Google Plus for its search engine optimization value. In case you're wondering Google Plus is not dead. Todd recommends checking a book written by David Amerland titled Google Semantic Search (affiliate link) to learn more about how search works today. Todd also recommends a tool called Circloscope to help you discover everything about the people you engage with on Google Plus. Converse Todd recommends a dashboard applications like Hootsuite which allows you to pull together all of your social network signals in one place. Convert For conversion Todd didn't offer any specifics because there are so many platforms out there. I personally use two platforms to varying degrees. This site is built on a Website theme and landing page platform called Optimizepress. I highly recommend this platform for it's ability for you to create that website design you've been searching for but don't have the design skills to build yourself. Another tools I am starting to incorporate into the site is LeadPages (affiliate link). LeadPages is specifically designed to help you convert visitors to your site in subscribers. Create Community Continue your conversation with your audience by creating a community where you can have deeper, more through provoking discussions. Think about the groups features on social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Google +.
