President Benson spoke with me about several changes within the Chants athletic department, including why former AD Matt Hogue wanted to switch roles at the university. Benson described his quick and quiet search process with the help of Joe Moglia and former Mizzou AD Mike Alden that ultimately landed them new AD Chance Miller. Benson talked about the newly announced convocation center/arena and why the penny sales tax in South Carolina is so useful for new projects like this, but also why being in a wetland area raises the price tag and slows down the build. We both share our thoughts on what prospective ADs should consider in whether to apply for a job and how to research a place before the interview with a president. The conversation ends with a fun discussion on whether President Benson will be playing as the Chants in dynasty mode of the newly released NCAA Football video game, and what it can do for a university in trying to attract people to campus. Joe Moglia quickly learned the importance of leadership and how to communicate effectively. He quickly rose through corporate ranks due to his ability to motivate others and his know-how to logistically complete tasks. Joe began his Wall Street career as an institutional bonds salesman; however, his previous career as a successful football coach provided him the opportunity to hone his leadership skills and guide his teams to victory. After a few years, Joe returned to sports, having become an even better coach because of the experience he transferred from the business world. Joe notes that the true test of leadership is what you do when things aren't going well. When you're winning, everyone is happy. If earnings are increasing, everyone is happy. The sign of a real leader is how you handle things under stress. The ACC is reportedly moving to a pod scheduling format, meaning each team will have three to four permanent opponents while rotating the rest. Dan Wetzel and SI's Pat Forde dive into each of the power five conferences and make the best-case format for each. Would the pod formant be better for the game? Deion Sanders and Joe Moglia sounded off this week on NIL and the landscape of college sports. Moglia, interestingly enough, had a few radical changes in mind. Should we do away with the signing period? What about blowing up the power five TV contacts? As for news of the weird, the guys have an update on our favorite ongoing saga from a Michigan middle school... this time it wasn't a kindergartner bringing a margarita to school either. Joe Moglia has a lot of things to say about the NCAA, name, image, likeness, and the transfer portal. The Doc Talk Podcast is the perfect place for him to speak freely and unfiltered. The former Coastal Carolina Head Coach recently penned an article for Forbes where he discussed whether or not the NCAA should break up. You can read it by clicking HERE. This podcast goes from 0 to 100 in about 30 seconds and keeps the pedal to the metal for almost an hour and a half. Moglia's college football coaching career is unlike most everyone in the profession. Back in the 80s, he had a choice to make; move his family to Miami to be an assistant and possible Defensive Coordinator for the Hurricane. Or take a job with Merrill Lynch and start making money to support his family. At the time, assistants were barely making enough to put bread on the table, let alone a roof over your head. Moglia made the right choice. After 17-years at Merrill Lynch, he became the CEO at TD Ameritrade. He would become Chairman in 2009 until Charles Schwab acquired the company in 2020. At close, the combined company was worth $100 BILLION with client assets of $7 TRILLION. When Joe arrived, these numbers were $700 million and $24 Billion. Moglia never lost the itch to get back in the football game despite his magic with leading teams and companies in the financial markets. So in 2008 he took an internship, so to speak, with Bo Pelini and the University of Nebraska. That experience fueled his fire to become a college head coach. In 2012, Joe became the Head Football Coach at Coastal Carolina, and in his first five seasons, his teams went to the National Playoffs all five years, and he was Conference Champion 4 times. His overall record was 56-22 for a .718 winning percentage. In his last 11 years of college coaching, he was a part of 8 championship teams. He has also received multiple Coach of the Year honors, including the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year award. In addition, he was the recipient of the Vince Lombardi Award and was inducted into the Lombardi Hall of Fame. He was also selected to the Big South Conference All-Decade Team. Moglia lives in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the weather is almost perfect! He is no longer on the Chanticleers sideline. He is Chairman of Fundamental Global Investors and Capital Wealth Advisors and Chair of Athletics, and Executive Advisor to the President at Coastal Carolina University. What's one thing that the stock market and football have in common? The answer is Joe Moglia. The former chairman of the board and CEO of TD Ameritrade decided to leave one of the most most lucrative fields ever to pursue his dream of working as a football coach. As the head coach of Coastal Carolina, Moglia quickly realized that toughness was an essential fuel for not only athletes and businessmen, but for every person with the guts to find out who they really are.

Please see https://www.fgfinancial.com/corporate-overview/officers-directors/default.aspx for Kyle's official bio. Kyle "stopped by" The Business Brew to discuss his role as CEO of Fundamental Global. In that capacity, he is focused on four portfolio companies: Ballantyne Strong Inc, BK Technologies Corp, GreenFirst Forest Products Inc, and SPAC that reached a definitive agreement to purchase Opportunity Financial. Kyle has a very interesting background. He is mentioned in David Einhorn's book, Fooling Some of the People All of the Time, because he crossed paths with David on the Allied Capital trade. At that time, Kyle was a Financial Services analyst at T. Rowe Price. Following his stint at T. Rowe Price, Kyle worked at SAC. Following his time at T Rowe Price, Kyle founded Fundamental Global with his partner Joe Moglia. Together, they take control of companies and look to create long term shareholder value. In this episode, Kyle discusses why he does what he does, how he thinks about value creation, and what he is trying to accomplish. Bill and Kyle met when Mike Mitchell was The Business Brew's first guest. Since that time, Bill has watched Kyle work tirelessly to execute his plans. Consequently, Bill has grown to respect Kyle very much and wanted to feature Kyle as a guest. This episode may give a glimpse into a fantasy many investors seem to have: buying controlling interests in companies. Bill's conclusion is he would rather partner with Kyle and let Kyle do the heavy lifting of execution. Disclosure: Bill owns shares in 3 of Kyle's companies. He won't name which ones because he doesn't want people to read anything into his decisions. However, he will commit to hold every share for at least a year following this podcast episode.

The ABCs of Money remained at or near the #1 Investing Basics e-book on Amazon for over 3 years (in its vertical), with over 120,000 downloads and a mean 5-star ranking. The 3rd edition of The ABCs of Money ( https://d38rqs2egh08o4.cloudfront.net/link_click/fnGcEFUDeM_bkFoj/0b4c1aae6d9973ed2fe5fc038d4f3769 ) was released in 2020. Natalie Pace's easy as a pie chart nest egg strategies earned gains in the last two recessions and have outperformed the bull markets in between. That is why her Investor Educational Retreats, books and private coaching are enthusiastically recommended by Nobel Prize winning economist Gary S. Becker, TD AMERITRADE chairman Joe Moglia, Kay Koplovitz and many Main Street investors who have transformed their lives using her Thrive Budget and investing strategies. Watch the *Facebook Livestream by clicking here* ( https://www.facebook.com/InspiredThoughtsWithSam/videos/1255972338093374/ ) *.* * Segment 1:* Sam delivers his weekly quotes from Abraham and the Universe. Then he introduces returning guest Natalie Wynn Pace. Natalie jumps right in with her thoughts on prosperity consciousness. Sam says that there are so many life skills that we aren't taught as a child, like banking strategies, that we must become educated about. He is all for empowering people in all aspects of life, financial situations included. *Segment 2:* Natalie says that if you have credit card debt, you have a budgeting problem. She suggests the “thrive budget” which is detailed on her website. This budget is centered on spending 50% of your income on “thriving” and the other 50% on “surviving”. She also advises not to drain your bank account in order to live a lifestyle that is out of your price range. However, by taking responsibility for how much you are spending, you are empowering and enabling yourself to have fun and enjoy yourself more. If you feel like you can't afford to have fun, this is another sign you have a budgeting problem. Natalie urges the audience to do an equity check, as it is hard to live in an “underwater” asset. *Segment 3:* If you are an employee you need to consider how reliable your income is and protect your wealth. Many employees are not paying attention to their 401Ks. They may not be aware that they can take easy actions to improve this because after all, you are the boss of your own money. Sam says that you can have power over your own money instead of handing it over to someone else to deal with, (it's not as hard as it seems)! Natalie knew we were in a recession before it was announced because she is tuned into the happenings of the economy which is why her methods should be trusted. Like Natalie, it is important to stay educated on the financial situation of the current time. Furthermore, businesses should be reassessed during this pandemic to see how they can adapt to the changing times. The future is going to look very different and your business must adjust. *Segment 4:* Natalie says your money must be properly diversified and says you must lead your money from wisdom. They pivot to discussing how people are fleeing the city and moving towards the countryside. In the last 20 years, there is a lot more volatility in the financial market and an eye must be kept on it. Real estate usually takes 4 years to hit it's bottom, so Natalie says to “stay tuned”. At some point everyone we compete against will be talented. Everyone we compete against will work hard. In this episode I share a story from Joe Moglia the former CEO of TD Ameritrade on what he thinks differentiates people from the best.
Joe Moglia, Chairman of Athletics and former Head Football Coach at Coastal Carolina, visits AthleticDirectorU to discuss the guiding principles he uses for his personal life, as well as in his professional leadership roles. These principles are being able to stand on your own two feet, taking responsibility for yourself, treating others with dignity and respect, and living with the consequences of your actions. Moglia also emphasizes hiring as a leader's number one job to lead an organization to success.
Joe Moglia completely reinvented himself. Twice… He went from college football coach to CEO of Ameritrade and then BACK to football (his first love). He was at the top of the corporate ladder. And decided to climb down for a coaching internship at the University of Nebraska. I wanted to know why he wasn’t afraid to change careers so drastically. And how he transferred the skills he learned from one industry to a completely different industry… creating a double reinvention. I write about all my podcasts!
