When data centers were down the hall, one could have physical access to a room and sign-on permission. The hybrid cloud, private clouds, and an interest in “alternative clouds” make identity the keystone of modern computing. Companies like Okta, Ping, and SailPoint work with identity and access management but rely on services that can provide a federated identity service. Today, we sit down with Dr. John Pritchard, the CEO of Radiant Logic, and learn that Radiant does not compete with these well-known vendors but provides the backbone for their service. Dr. Pritchard uses an interesting phrase: “continuous identity hygiene.” This means that although a person's biology will not change, he can compromise essential elements of his identity. This must be a continuous process. This fact has been recognized by CISA and DoD's 2027 Zero Trust Goals and can be identified as Identity Security Posture Management. In this thorough discussion, Dr. Pritchard presents a 30-year framework for network identity and includes comments on a unified data layer, data staging, and how to select a reference architecture for using a federated identity service.

John Pritchard was the founder of Pala, a brand driven by purpose. The mission was to produce high quality, long-lasting eyewear whilst making a commitment to minimise the impact on the planet and maximise positive social impact on people.Longevity of product was important to minimise resource usage, but that makes for a very different approach to business. The Pala strapline was “see the world better”, which enabled him to go into numerous directions around how to help others “see the world better”.However, after 9 years, the mission took its toll and earlier this year John had to make the decision to close down the business. He now needs to take a pause, but feels conflicted about that. His sense of purpose was strong but he also needed to pause to look after himself. He feels the tension between doing stuff and not doing stuff with conflicting stories about being of service to others but also needing to look after himself. Now that the business is winding down he's a lot less busy and t's something that's going to take some getting used to. Some internal rewiring is needing to happen.John is now entering a time of transition where he's pondering how to change the world while also changing his world. In this episode, Carlos and Laurence learn about what it took to start, grow and run Pala and the lessons he's learned about purposeful business and about himself. You'll learn about the questions he's now having to ask himself about how to fit purpose into his future work alongside making a commitment to his own wellbeing.LinksJoin the conversation liveBecome a member of the Happy Startup SchoolJoin the next Vision 20/20 cohort

Escuchar audio
This week's podcasts brings another highlight of the most recent Church Times Festival of Faith and Literature, which took place in Winchester in late February: Gaia Vince in conversation with the Rt Revd John Pritchard about her book Nomad Century: How to survive the climate upheaval (Features, 2 December, Books, 23 December). In a review of the book for the Church Times, the Rt Revd David Chillingworth described it as “a remarkable and important book. It takes a hard look at what our world may become as the effects of global warming gather pace. . . “Vince suggests that the response of humanity to these challenges [of climate change] must be the one that it has always used: migration. Migration is ‘not the problem. . . migration is the oldest survival trick.' Hence the title, Nomad Century.” Nomad Century is published by Penguin and is available to buy from the Church House Bookshop; 978-0-24152-231-8. https://chbookshop.hymnsam.co.uk/books/9780241522318/nomad-century Gaia Vince is an award-winning science journalist, writer, and broadcaster, and an honorary senior research fellow at UCL. Microchurch. House Church. No matter what you call them, chances are you may have heard something about this model of church over the past year during Covid. Of course, this isn't a new way of doing church; it literally goes back all the way to the first churches. But it's a model that still feels unfamiliar to many of us in North America. Over the past year, however, there's been a growing interest in microchurch as a model due to the public health restrictions we've been living with. In this episode, Mike Mawhorter from our Church Lifecycles team has a conversation with John Pritchard, one of the founders and leaders of The Edge HC, a network of house churches that began in Calgary and has expanded all across Canada, from BC to PEI. If you've ever had questions about the microchurch, or house church, model, you're definitely going to want to listen in as they talk about why the microchurch model is such an intriguing one, what it looks like, and what it takes to start one. On this week's podcast, John Pritchard considers how the experience of pilgrimage can enrich our everyday lives once we return home. This talk was recorded at the latest Church Times Festival of Pilgrimage, which took place online on Monday. The experience of pilgrimage, he hopes, “will permeate the rest of our lived experience. . . The essence of religion is actually about the presence of God in the midst of everyday life. Not God in a box on the edge of our everyday lives, but God in the heart of it all, because that's where discipleship is to be found — right at the heart of everything.” The Rt Revd John Pritchard is a former Bishop of Oxford and a popular writer of books such as The Life and Work of a Priest, Why go to Church?, and God Lost and Found. Peter Haining elite rowing expert, Olympian and 3 times World Gold Medalist in Lightweight single sculls. Sponsors - Sculling Gear - everything you need after you've bought a single scull https://rowing.chat/sponsor/sculling-gear/ - Rowing Directory - the place to find a rowing business selling what you need. https://rowing.chat/retailer/ Timestamps to the show 02:40 Peter’s background in rowing started when he come in 1966. He ended up winning World Gold in LM1x three times. 05:20 I was born lucky. My Mother was the only person in her maternity ward whose child wasn’t born thalidomide - the morning sickness drug’s side effects weren’t known. 07:15 I was brought up in a damp house and I had bronchitis and asthma as a child. My brother George died of pneumonia aged 6 weeks. 10:30 My Father, Jackie Haining was a member at Loch Lomond Rowing Club and he coached the juniors,. 17:30 George Parsonage and the Glasgow Humane Society. I was watching George sell and how he connects to the boat - he was so fast. I told George I”d beat his Guinness World Record for rowing the length of Loch Ness in 2 hours 43 minutes and I didn’t. 22:30 I went to York regatta and raced Chris Williams from Tideway Scullers in the elite 1x and we dead heated three times. He said I should try racing lightweight. John Pritchard lent me his Glyn Locke single boat stored at Imperial College with Billy Mason. 26:00 Rowing the pair with Glen Knight we went to trials and Mr Raynor lent us his 10.5 stone single scull - it was rigged right over left. We did 42 seat races over 1500 meters before I won selection into the LM8+ and we won at Luzern. It’s a special regatta and I’ve got several medals from there. I dropped my Dad’s wedding ring into the lake when we lifted out boat out of the water. 32:30 I moved back into Lwt 1x after I saw this Staempfli boat at Henley Royal Regatta and I wanted to row like them - it was Ian Wilson’s Nottinghamshire Country Rowing Association crew. So I moved to Nottingham to live and train. 36:00 I was late once too often for the 8s outing and got dropped for being unreliable. Ray Sims offered me a single. I was livid. I decided whatever training the 8 did I would do 2 more trips than them. 39:00 Mike Spraklen wrote to me saying “Miles make champions - but they have to be good miles.” 45:00 I went to Paris to race and try to be the first lightweight to go sub 7 minutes. Frans Goebel the Dutch sculler was just so fast - his catches and finishes were amazing. The Spanish sculler taught me the catch drill’ Niall O’Toole the Irish sculler taught me to reach with your chest. 52:00 The future of rowing - there’s a lot of urban staleness and the business models of how we get our grants is broken. Participation in rowing is only 300,000 in UK it’s pathetically small. WE need to be more inclusive. 54:00 Team Keane is where I coach - it’s run like a US programme where you pay for your programme and you get coached. Contact Peter www.elitesculling.com

Our world seems to be falling apart, both in the personal and in the global sense. I sustained an enormous personal loss this week when my dear friend Fred Berndt, the great German stage director, died suddenly on Friday. But we are all feeling an enormous sense of despair, of hopelessness, even of rage. Even before Fred’s death, I recognized that this episode needed to offer a message of hope to those who are finding it difficult to negotiate the world right now. The voice that has spoken to me most in my sadness is the Welsh soprano Margaret Price (1941-2011), whose distinctively cool yet engaged timbre, scrupulous musicianship, and communicative gifts prove unfailingly capable of conveying comfort and consolation to those who are distressed or grieving. I offer a survey of the career of this exemplary singer, a personal favorite of mine, in a wide range of repertoire including opera, oratorio, and art song. Composers include her specialties Mozart and Verdi, as well as Brahms, Strauss, Schumann, Schubert, Weber, Elgar, and the undervalued British composer Phyllis Tate. Collaborators include Otto Klemperer, Claudio Abbado, John Pritchard, Alain Lombard, Adrian Boult, and her mentor, the pianist and conductor James Lockhart, among many others. I hope that Margaret Price and her voice of consolation bring you much solace. Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel’s lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and journalist yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” Occasional guests from the “business” (singers, conductors, composers, coaches, and teachers) lend their distinctive insights. At Countermelody’s core is the interaction between singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. The health care supply chain wraps around the entire world, so when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, people were worried. News articles about providing front line workers PPE and giving patients needed ventilators were everywhere. What did we learn from the initial onslaught? And how is the supply chain changing to meet the needs of the future? John Pritchard, President & CEO of Share Moving Media joined Chip to discuss all of this and more.
Host: John Pritchard, Publisher, The Journal of Healthcare Contracting (JHC) Participants: • Angela McNally, Vice President of Provider Solutions, Owens & Minor • Patrick McMahon, Vice President of Services, Owens & Minor As the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world, many hospitals quickly stockpiled supplies they had never sourced before, and now they have items they didn’t use during the peak of the pandemic. How do hospitals get their COVID-19 stockpile in order? Angela McNally and Patrick McMahon of Owens & Minor discuss this challenge and more with John Pritchard of The Journal of Healthcare Contracting (JHC) in the second part of a two-part series covering hospitals and IDNs resuming surgeries. It’s the latest Healthcare Supplychain Radio podcast called “Managing Inventory Post-COVID.” “Hospitals face dynamic challenges moving forward due to carrying large amounts of inventory with unpredictable demand,” said Pritchard. “Angela and Patrick speak to post-COVID strategies that can prepare hospitals for the long-term and for future epidemics.” To learn more about inventory management solutions for providers, visit: https://www.owens-minor.com/our-solutions/provider-inventory-solutions/

Sermon for Trinity Sunday by Bishop John Pritchard
As states begin to lift restrictions on certain surgeries and procedures for hospitals and health systems, electives have restarted after being suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. John Raab and Patrick McMahon of Owens & Minor, and Mark Campbell of Tampa General Hospital discuss the supply chain and demand challenges for hospitals during the restart, the staffing issues, the financial pressures, the data points and the PPE tracking with John Pritchard of The Journal of Healthcare Contracting (JHC) in the latest Healthcare Supplychain Radio podcast, “Best Practices for Hospitals and Supply Chain Resuming Surgeries.” Historical data points are critical as hospitals restart elective surgeries. Knowing what procedures are scheduled one to four weeks ahead of time, what’s actually been done in the past, how to block time and utilize it, and tracking daily usage of surgical product and PPE, which has thrown a new wrinkle into the mix. Tracking PPE daily is new to the OR. It’s important for hospitals to have confidence in their supply source, their distributor and their manufacturers. The supply chain is still intact, but the demand for product is more robust. Confidence in their supply will save hospitals from over ordering during this restart. Host: John Pritchard, Publisher, The Journal of Healthcare Contracting (JHC) Participants: John Raab, National Director of Clinical Business Development, Owens & Minor Patrick McMahon, Vice President of Services, Owens & Minor Mark Campbell, Vice President of Supply Chain, Tampa General Hospital Note: Please look for the second of this two-part series next week on hospitals managing their supply chain post-COVID. Hospitals and health systems quickly stockpiled for the pandemic without much management of those supplies. Now, hospitals are cleaning up their stockpiles and face challenges of carrying large amounts of inventory with unpredictable demand. How can hospitals make sure they have the best practices in place to properly manage their stockpiles?

This week, Ed Thornton talks to John Pritchard, the former Bishop of Oxford and a popular writer of books such as The Life and Work of a Priest, Why go to Church?, and God Lost and Found. His latest book is called Five Events that Made Christianity, published by SPCK. In the book, he takes readers on a pilgrimage of the Holy Land, as he unpacks the five great events that made Christianity: Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, Ascension, and Pentecost. For each event, he explores what happened, what does it mean, and what does it mean for us now. The book is available to buy from the Church Times Bookshop for £9. You can read an extract, on what the incarnation means for us now, in our Christmas double issue, out next Friday. There's still time to buy a Christmas gift subscription of the Church Times for £85, a 30% saving on the paper's cover price. It also includes a Christmas card announcing the gift, a bar of Fairtrade chocolate, and one of three great books. The offer is available until the end of the year, but if you order today (Friday) and we will endeavour to send the book in time for Christmas. Go to Churchtimes.co.uk/christmas. John Pritchard calls Easter ‘the most astonishing day in the history of the world, shattering our closed minds and throwing open the windows of eternity’. But while we keep – or attempt to keep – Lent fastidiously, for many of us the fifty-day season of Easter is, curiously, harder to sustain. But he says that at the very ground of our being we are ‘an Easter people, and alleluia is our song’ and asks, what would it mean to let the glory of Easter illumine our everyday lives? Recorded 3 April 2016.
