We also revel in the serendipity of her path, sparked by the simple gift of a tarot deck and fanned into a flame that now lights the way for others. But the revelations don't stop with the shuffle of cards; they extend to the spaces we inhabit. Kate, with her nuanced understanding of feng shui and numerology, opens the door to the energies that dance within our homes. She takes us on a tour of how she merges feng shui with modern living, creating sanctuaries that resonate with our spiritual frequencies. Kate Van Horn is a tarot reader and healer, a business mentor, and the creator of The Elements candles. Her combination of savvy business mind and spiritual intuition give her a balanced outlook on life. She talks us through pulling your own tarot cards, what activities you might do after pulling your cards, how to set the mood before you shuffle the deck, and her favorite decks for beginners. Note that Kate was doing her tarot card reading and shuffling in read time, so you might hear some light shuffling and tapping in the background! Resources: Kate's website, where you can book a virtual tarot card reading with her or sign up for her (Full) Circle Tarot Course Kate's Instagram, where she videos her daily card pulls The two decks she recommends for beginners: The Rider Waite tarot deck and the Wild Unknown tarot set (although note! She doesn't recommend buying tarot decks online if you can avoid it—it's much better to visit a store in person and see what deck resonates with you) If you love this episode as much as we do, subscribe to the #WeGotGoals podcast wherever you like to listen to podcasts, including on Apple and Spotify (and hey, leave us a rating while you’re at it!).

Today we’re here to close out our first month of themed episodes! This month’s theme was the connection between mind and body — the biology/spirituality connection. We had some amazing guests on, including Bruce Lipton, Koya Webb, and Kate Van Horn! With Bruce we discussed the biology of belief and the intersection between consciousness and matter; with Koya, we spoke about powerful notions around self-love, self-worth, and gratitude; and with Kate, we talked about developing intuitive practices for healing from traumatic, psychological events. In connecting to this month's theme, Sophie and I reflect on some of our own fundamental differences in our beliefs and how we process things. Where I’m mostly science-based, Sophie is much more spiritual and intuition-based. However, these differences are our own individual, beautiful strengths that make each of us unique. And what’s so cool about this month’s theme is that it’s all about bridging this gap! In this episode we reflect on all of our June episodes and guests, and touch on the themes of: the biology and spirituality connection, the power of perspective, connecting with our light and shadows, finding growth and lessons through showing up, confronting fears to live your most authentic self, and the power of belief in manifesting success! Be sure to tune in for next month’s episodes where the theme is going to be ‘adventure’! Topics Discussed: [:29] About today’s Going Deep episode! [1:20] Reading our review of the month. [2:05] Sophie reads a quote from Marianne Williamson about fear. [3:02] Reflecting on our episode with Bruce Lipton. [4:47] A story from our past that really illustrates this idea of bridging the gap between our differences. [8:42] Bruce’s aha moment that led to him opening up to this biology/spirituality connection. [9:26] How bridging the gap between our differences has led to the betterment of us as individuals and in our relationship. [10:39] The connection between mind and body, the power of the placebo effect, and the importance of believing in the power of manifesting to unlock success. [15:25] Reflecting on our episode with Koya Webb and the power of perspective. [21:35] Bridging the gap between spirituality and biology, light and shadow, and being realistic vs. idealistic. [25:33] Reflecting on our episode with Kate Van Horn. [26:55] The growth we’ve experienced in our relationship through trust, perspective, and showing up. [30:15] Why avoiding your shadows, fears, and who you really are, leads to being stuck… and how to get out of it. [33:38] Lessons we’ve learned in taking the leap when you’re “not ready.” [40:38] Reflecting on this month’s theme. [41:26] What has been your aha moment from this month’s episodes? Write it out, tag us, and we’ll share it online! [42:05] What this month’s episodes taught us and about next month’s theme! At a loss with her identity, she embarked on a path of self-discovery through yoga. Once she transformed her mindset from one of “victim” to “creator”, she healed body, mind and spirit within a year. Today, she has built a wellness empire founded on health, courage, and most importantly, love, entitled Get Loved Up. Looking at her tremendous success, you would never guess that Koya struggled with so much fear, self-doubt and anxiety. Despite her fears and feelings of unworthiness, she had the courage to move forward because her “why” – desire to help others heal and make a difference in the world - was so much stronger. As this fierce goddess eloquently said on the podcast, “You have to get up more times than you've been knocked down.” Rather than submitting to defeat, she encourages you to ask yourself, “If not that, then what?” Repeating this simple mantra will help you step back into a space of love and acceptance, aligning you with your highest purpose because the next best thing is coming your way. In the meantime, Koya urges us to celebrate the yeses! One of Koya's favorite ways to overcome fear, and in turn, anxiety is to practice self-care. Practicing gratitude, taking a bath, enjoying a massage or eating a healthy meal are just some of the ways we can take time to restore on a physical and spiritual level. Because when we take time to love ourselves, we become a conduit for good rather than spreading more fear and negativity throughout the collective consciousness. We talk about: How Koya fell in love with wellness and overcame her fear of failure to build a successful empire in the wellness industry What is fear, and how can we move through it Why is it important to change your mindset from one of victim to creator Simple practices we can all do right now to face our fears, cultivate more love and live in alignment with our higher purpose Resources: WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM Listen to Get Loved Up Podcast HERE Enter to win Koya's new book HERE Stay Up To Date: Follow @TheAlchemizedLife and @AvaJohanna on Instagram Subscribe to Newsletter Visit AvaJohannna.com Sponsors: Rothy's: Head to Rothys.com/alchemized to get your new favorite flats Daily Harvest: Use code "ALCHEMIZED" for three free cups in your first delivery at https://www.dailyharvest.com (DailyHarvest.com) HeyDay Skincare: Use code "HEYAVA10" when booking at any HeyDay location for $10 off your treatment. May was Mental Health Awareness Month - but just because the month is over doesn't mean we should stop talking about it. I can't think of a better guest to remind us of this: someone who is a prime example of taking your pain and trauma and turning it into something that can help and empower others. Kate is a wellness blogger, yoga instructor and entrepreneur based in Philadelphia. Kate promotes health through mindful living, intuitive movement, food freedom and a body positive message. After recovering from an eating disorder and experiencing childhood trauma, Kate chose to heal through community. She now shares her story with her audience in hopes of about building a community centered in authenticity and radical self love. (Kate is also a dog mom, lover of matcha lattes and anything "woo woo", from crystals to astrology and tarot.) Kate is the co-founder of a wellness events business, The GOOD Festival, which hosts festivals, retreats and workshops nationally. Kate was recently names 1 of 25 Influential Women to Watch in Wellness by Yogiapproved.com and her story and writing have been featured in mindbodygreen, Yoga Digest and Thoughtfully Magazine. This episode is AMAZING for anyone who wants to build a community of like-minded people sans the BS (whether in-person or online), interested in creating serial success instead of being a one-hit-wonder, loves wellness but is looking for a little more substance than what's on-trend, is curious as to how wellness practices can ACTUALLY heal past wounds and trauma...and, speaking of trauma, anyone who has either experienced trauma in their past that might be holding them back, or knows someone who is still working through their own trauma and might not even recognize it. So grateful to Kate for sharing so much of herself and being so willing to talk about some sensitive subjects. (Note: we do not go into graphic detail, but if you have experienced trauma or abuse, please be mindful that we DO talk about these subjects. We make sure we don't speak in a triggering way, but everyone is different - you know yourself best.) Show Notes: Website Instagram The GOOD Fest Jessica Murnane on the WANTcast (and here!) Clean Eating for Women with Carrie Forrest, MPH in Nutrition
Kate Van Horn the Co-Creator of the GoodFest wellness festival is here to talk about the festival, her recovery story, body love, and all good things. In this episode of the Clean Eating for Women podcast, we talk about: What GoodFest is all about Letting go of labels and still living authentically Tools like yoga helped Kate heal from her eating disorder Some highlights of this episode on body love & all the good things: GoodFest started in Philadelphia and the first festival ended up with 350 women from all over. Then they decided to try a festival in L.A. Then they are going back to Philadelphia, but they are also planning to go to Austin and Seattle. [01:35] The spirit of loving yourself and finding like minded women at GoodFest. They want it to be an inclusive community. Wellness should be fun and exploratory, not rigid. People should go to GoodFest with an open mind, and take what works and leave the rest. [03:10] Kate's personal journey of figuring out where she belonged and letting go of labels. She thinks it is important to feel you identify with others. She started out as plant based vegan, but struggled with it. Being able to make choices and be in alignment with our food choices. Letting go of labels can be a feeling of relief. [06:28] Not being rigid left more room for being creative. This actually snowballed into the Good Festival. Flowing led to more opportunities and made things more fluid. Just allowing things to be along with having trust leaves room for flow. [10:00] Kate loves yoga and thinks it was the final piece of the puzzle that helped her eating disorder. Mindfulness and moving intuitively really helped her healing process. Her yoga practice started as a home practice where she was at peace with her body. [12:04] Having an accountability buddy or working with a specialist when working on recovering from an eating disorder. Everyone benefits from talking through things, but it is also empowering to have tools like yoga. There is a lot within us that we can do when we are ready. [16:25] Finding balance in finding speakers for GoodFest. They chose a panel for the L.A. GoodFest because people have had different food experiences. They want to represent different voices. They also chose the food freedom route. They framed it as a relationship with food and discovering what food is best for each person. [18:56] One of the purposes of GoodFest is for women to have a place where they aren't judged. Kate wants it to become the norm when people in the wellness community get together. [24:06] The next GoodFest on 8/11/18 will feature Kelsey Patel and Ruby Warrington, a panel, yoga, and Alexis Joseph. It will end with a meditation. They are going to have large groups instead of tracks. It's going to be a main stage format. I love this conversation because Kate shares so many well articulated insights. We talk about the wellness trends we're just not that into and why that's totally fine. The overall theme was definitely that wellness practices are meant to be a tool, not a strict regime. The GOODfest will be in LA this coming February and I'm so excited to attend.
