In this holiday-themed episode, Drew and Tim discuss ten practical ways to prioritize faith and maintain a focus on Jesus during the Christmas season. They hold a light-hearted conversation on combating the consumerism often associated with the holidays, bringing the conversation back to family, love, gratitude, and the importance of sharing the story of Jesus. Tips include reading the Bible with family, studying Old Testament prophecies, using an Advent calendar, reading faith-focused literature, watching Christ-centered films, understanding the dangers of materialism, and giving faith-based gifts. They also encourage listeners to serve others and share their faith with someone during this season. We have been given a precious revelation today! “Don’t Keep Christ in Christmas” is the perfect sermon as we near a close to the year 2022. Both Pastors Judah and Wade help bring us into contact with a very real and tangible revelation that the bible clearly demonstrates. Since we have been given the right to become children of God, Christ in us makes us just as He is. He is the incarnation, the Word made flesh, and so are we! We are the incarnation of Christ, the manifestation of Him to a lost and dying world. Though we are imperfect, we will guard, grow, and give what we have because Christ in us causes us to be the hope in the world. This is a revelation that not many believers have tapped into, but it is the biblical reality we need to take hold of!

I pray that everyone had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving. Now, I have a question for you. Do you keep Christ in Christmas at Christmas? Or would you instead celebrate something else? This question has haunted me for almost as long as I can remember. I remember the first time that it ever crossed my mind. It was in the military, and we were in the field on maneuvers at Christmas in Germany. I wonder about Christmas customs around the world. One of the stories I had heard was about the people of China celebrating Christmas in a completely different way than most other countries. It went like this back when the Chinese Communist Party ruled over them, and many homes wouldn't even have doors on the holiday. They would have a small image of Jesus at the center of the door and another person or family member outside to greet guests. It bothered me to think about how different our culture was from theirs, but at the same time, it also made me want to learn more about them so that I could be like them without being afraid of what others might think of me. So I started praying about it, asking God whether or not I should change what I am doing with my heart this holiday season. I asked Him to show me if keeping Christ in Christmas is possible or if even I am too stuck on the tradition to see past it all and accept Jesus as my true love gift from God… Christmas is one of the most important holidays of the year for Christians. It is a time to remember that God's gift of His Son, Jesus, came to earth as a man and died on the cross so that we could live. In this Spirit-filled season, we rededicate ourselves to living life to the fullest and celebrate Christmas as a time to focus on Him—not things, people, or ideas that can't be missed on December 25th. So here are some tips from a Christian standpoint on how to celebrate Christmas from a healthy perspective.         What is Keeping Christ in Christmas? Keeping Christ in Christmas is crucial to Christ's birthday—Christmas—in the holiday season. It is making room for Jesus in one's own home during this time of year. Traditionally, this has meant that the door to one's home is shut, and a small image of Jesus is placed at the center of the door. On the doorframe is a picture of the Nativity or the Ascension. Family members and close friends are invited to open the door and greet the guest as the doorbell rings. Gifts are exchanged, and the Christmas spirit is brought into the home.       Does Keeping Christ in Christmas depend on our culture, or can it be changed with time and effort? It's really up to you. You can choose to keep what Christ is believed to have meant for your culture and celebrate it throughout the year with your family, friends, and community. Or, you can turn back the hands of time and observe what your culture does not celebrate. This is why it's so important to make time for yourself this season and open the door for the season of giving. This is the first step to keeping Christ in Christmas. By making time for yourself this season, you are actively choosing to keep Christ in the Christmas season. Stay in the Christmas Spirit. When you celebrate Christmas, you are celebrating the life and death of Jesus. You are paying him tribute, and by doing so, you are acknowledging His existence and His power and celebrating how he redeemed us from our sins by giving us his precious blood. When you stay in the Christmas spirit, you are focused on only some things that are supposed to be done on December 25th. Instead, you are aware of the fact that this is a special day, and you are making an effort to focus on what is likely to be an incredibly joyous occasion.       What are other customs keeping Christ from us this season? Many customs are associated with Christmas that we could spend our time examining and discussing, but a few could be more positive. For example, there is the custom of reindeer-ing, in which poor, tired, abused, and hungry reindeer are forced to pull a sleigh full of toys and other gifts made by humans. Other animals are often forced to serve as companions; most of the time, they are not given adequate food or water to keep them alive through the long journey. There is also the custom of equipping the reindeer with sledgehammers and chainsaws so they do not have to walk in pain and can deliver the gift parcels. Celebrate the true meaning of Christmas: living a new life and being born again. Many people need help understanding the true meaning of Christmas. They think it is about Santa and presents and getting into the nitty-gritty of bargaining with the most powerful man in the world. But the truth is, the real meaning of Christmas is about living a new life and being born again. Most of us have heard the story of how Jesus was born. We have been told that He was born in Bethlehem of Nazareth. We have been told that He was born under the sign of the star that His parents saw in the sky. We have also been told that He grew up in Capernaum on the Sea of Galilee. But what we may not know is that after living a life of sin, after being tempted in every way that human souls could be drawn, He came to earth as a man and died on the cross for our sins. And now He is alive again and has returned to heaven.       Is keeping Christ in Christmas even possible? It is possible to keep Christ in Christmas, but it requires a lot of work. People might not notice if you don't actively work on it, but the choice is there for you to make. The first step is to accept Christ as your true love gift from God. Then, you need to make space for Him in your home this Christmas. This can be as simple as closing the door or turning off the lights in the room where you typically keep your traditions. It would be best if you chose to open the door for the season of giving by accepting the gifts others have brought for you. Finally, it would be best if you spent time with people celebrating something different from you. Celebrate the birth of Christ by reciting his birth announcement and His story. At the heart of Christmas is the birth of Christ. And during this season, you can celebrate the fantastic fact that through the power of God, the Son of God was born to earth. You can observe that He lived a sinless life and that we were all born again through His birth. You can also celebrate how the perfect babies were conceived through a virgin's womb. You can observe that this baby, conceived through God's power, was born to a virgin. This is the compelling story of the birth of Christ, and while you are celebrating the beginning of that story, you are also celebrating the end. Don't forget about the poor and oppressed. As the most famous religious holiday in the world, the opportune time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas is during this season. During this time, we are all more conscious that we are all connected by a shared humanity and that by participating in this season of giving, we are extending a warm and fuzzy feeling to people less fortunate than ourselves. Look to Jesus for redemption. When you celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, you are also celebrating the fact that through the death of Christ, our sins were forgiven, and a new relationship with God was begun. This is a time to think about how we can return the favor and be more welcoming to the people in our lives who have been having a rough time this past year. When you think about the poor and oppressed, you are also thinking about the people in your community who may not have had a chance to celebrate Christmas because they are struggling with their own economic issues. You can't make a wish for the whole world during this season of gifts because you are not going to change anyone's mind—only your heart. So instead of being hard on yourself for being so selfish as to forget about other people, you can look to Jesus for forgiveness and try to give him a warm and fuzzy on this birthday.       Conclusion The true meaning of Christmas is about giving, and it is possible to celebrate Christmas without giving to others. This is the essence of Christmas, but some people choose to keep it out of duty or obligation. The truth is that Christmas is a time to spend with family, friends, and loved ones, but it can also be a time to give gifts to others. The key is to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the son of God, in a way that makes His birth meaningful to the recipient. As you can see, there are many ways to celebrate Christmas from a nutritional standpoint and keep Christ in Christmas. By carefully planning your celebration, you can avoid excess and focus on the good things that come with this beautiful holiday. If you are struggling with overeating or feeling stressed out this time of year, try to stay focused on the good in your life and schedule downtime for a relaxation exercise before the big day. This will help you stay in the Christmas spirit and focus on the true meaning of this most important holiday. Jesus Christ

3 Ways To Keep Christ In Christmas

If You Forget

Luke 2:11 says “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” With so many bad things going on in the world right now it's easy to lose sight of the true meaning of the holiday. So to help you refocus here are three ways to keep Christ in Christmas 1. Read bible verses focused on the birth of Jesus Romans 10:17 says, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” So read chapters like Luke 1 and 2 or Matthew 1 and 2 that speak about the birth of Christ.  Or read Advent bible verses that speak about the hope, peace, love and joy that the birth of Christ brings to us. 2. Serve Jesus by serving others 1 Peter 4:10 tells us to “use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.” God has blessed you so that you can be a blessing to others wherever he's placed you. Use whatever gifts he's given you to help others, build them up, and point them to Jesus, the greatest gift of all.  3. Receive again the gift of Jesus Christmas is an opportunity to experience again the beauty of the birth of your Savior.  Luke 2:14 says “Glory to God in the highest heaven,    and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”  Christmas is a time to remember that our dark and weary world has been given a great light through Jesus. He's saved you from our sins, he loves you, and he gives you hope and a future that no one and nothing can ever take from you. Let me pray for you: Father, May the hope, the peace, the joy, and the love we find in the birth of your Son fill our lives today and every day. And with each day may we grow ever closer to you. In Jesus' name we pray, amen

So much so that we often forget to keep Christ in our Christmas preparations. Today, host Rob West and Steve Moore talk about a few things to make Christmas not just merry, but meaningful as well. Generosity helps us keep perspective not just during the Christmas season, but year-round. The goal is to reflect the character of Christ in what we do, especially toward those who may not yet know him. Putting Christ back into what has become a secular holiday for many is a great way to witness. To put ourselves in the proper frame of mind, we have to add God Himself to our Christmas gift list. Find ways to keep Christ in Christmas, such as reading the Christmas Story from the Gospel of Luke. On Christmas morning, before opening gifts, spend a few moments in family devotion discussing the true meaning of Christmas. Make one of your gifts to your family members a gift of service, the kind of gift that costs you nothing but a little time and effort. Look for opportunities to show Gods love, such as bringing a meal to an elderly neighbor or inviting a single mom and her kids over for the holidays. If you have a friend or family member who doesnt yet know the Lord, invite them to attend your Christmas service with you. Here are a couple of questions we answered from our callers on todays program: We froze $25k in an IRA with Fidelity about five years ago. Were ready to do something with it now.How can we re-invest it without many fees? Christians are often concerned at Christmastime with “keeping Christ in Christmas.” But maybe we should spend a bit more time thinking about which “Christ” it is we’re “keeping.”Unfortunately, even sincere attempts to “keep Christ in Christmas” can lead us astray. Heart-tugging reflections on how Mary or Joseph must have felt, or the humble circumstances of Jesus birth, surely have their place. But only as backdrop for the true significance of the event. The meaning and miracle of Jesus’ birth was the pivotal moment in creation history. It was that instant in time when the Creator took the human nature of the creature upon himself forever. Play Episode Listen Later Dec 23, 2019 8:17

Join us as we explore God's ancient wisdom and apply it to our modern lives. His word is as current and relevant today as it was when he inspired its authors more than two and a half millennia ago. The websites where you can reach us are alittlewalkwithgod.com, richardagee.com, or saf.church. I hope you will join us every week and be sure to let us know how you enjoy the podcast and let others know about it, too. Thanks for listening. Thanks for joining me today for "A Little Walk with God." I'm your host Richard Agee. Here we are at the last week of Advent. Children wait expectantly to open the packages under the tree. Moms and Dads scurry around for those last-minute gifts and the trimmings for the Christmas feast at the family table. Everyone vies for their favorite Christmas movies on one of the six-thousand cable channels. At least it seems there are that many sometimes. The countdown to Christmas has almost finished. But what do we expect when the countdown reaches zero? Too often, the climax we expect feels like a letdown. When the paper and empty boxes pile up in the corner, the plates find themselves in the sink, and the leftovers fill the refrigerator, we sigh and ask, "Is that it? All that work and fuss for this?" In just a few short hours, it's all a memory and usually a relatively short one at that. We build our hopes around what happens around a Christmas tree or a Christmas dinner and find that what happens there just doesn't last. The ribbons and bows and shiny paper don't bring the joy we thought it would in the end. The perfect present we spent days and weeks searching out doesn't carry the reaction we thought it would. The feast doesn't create the festival we expected. There is a reason why, but most won't agree. You see, we miss the point. We celebrate Christmas, but forget to invite the person we celebrate. We forget to leave a seat for the namesake of the holiday. We welcome all our friends but put an "X" in place of the most important guest of the season. Even those who call themselves Christian miss this essential ingredient in celebrating this holy day. We forget to leave a place for him as we prepare the schedule crammed with fun things to bring special memories for the future. Matthew records his birth this way: The birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. His mother Mary had been promised to Joseph in marriage. But before they were married, Mary realized that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Her husband, Joseph, was an honorable man and did not want to disgrace her publicly. So he decided to break the marriage agreement with her secretly. Joseph had this in mind when an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. The angel said to him, "Joseph, descendant of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife. She is pregnant by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus [He Saves], because he will save his people from their sins." All this happened so that what the Lord had spoken through the prophet came true: "The virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel," which means "God is with us." When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him to do. He took Mary to be his wife. He did not have marital relations with her before she gave birth to a son. Joseph named the child Jesus. His short journey with us isn't one most would want. He began his life marked as an illegitimate son of Mary, born in a cave with a stone bed filled with straw as the only place to lay his tiny head. He knew poverty. Most scholars think his earthly dad died shortly after his temple experience at the age of twelve. He became the breadwinner for his family in a village whose residents often operated on the wrong side of the law. And most of those villagers thought he was an illegitimate child, not the son of holy God they worshipped. People expected the Messiah. The prayed for him to come to rescue them from the tyranny of Rome. They longed for relief from their long trial of oppression at the hand of godless nations after returning to Jerusalem from their defeat and exile. But surely God would not send his Messiah through a poor peasant from Nazareth. Surely God would choose the wife of the chief priest or some other notable character in the temple to raise his Messiah. He wouldn't possibly have some peasant girl from the lowest of towns on the dark side of the nation give birth to the savior of Israel. For everyone who knew him growing up, Jesus didn't seem to be anyone special. But he knew, Mary knew, Joseph knew that he would redeem Israel one day. He would bring freedom to the captives. They didn't understand how. They didn't realize it would mean his death on the cross, and he brought freedom from the penalty of sin, not freedom from political oppression. But we know. We look back on two thousand years of history and see what God did through his Son, Jesus. We know the changes he made to the world. We recognize the incredible transformation his presence in one's life brings. Still, we leave him out of our celebrations at this special time of year. We stay absorbed in the world's pleasures and what the world offers instead of the real treasure Jesus offers. We remove his name from Christmas, replace it with an X, or just call it the holiday season, so no one gets offended. Then wonder why there is no satisfaction when we get up from the feast or unwrap the last present. I invite you in the last days before Christmas to stop and meditate on him. Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah, our Savior is the namesake of these holy days. He is the reason we celebrate. Be careful preparing the festivities for family and friends that you leave a place for him in your celebrations. Make him the centerpiece in all you do. If you will, you will find this holiday most enjoyable. If Jesus is in the center of your celebration, this will be one of the best Christmases you've ever had regardless of your outward circumstances. Because he never fails, and he never leaves us alone. Merry Christmas, and thanks for letting me share with you this past year. You can find me at richardagee.com. I also invite you to join us at San Antonio First Church of the Nazarene on West Avenue in San Antonio to hear more Bible-based teaching. You can find out more about my church at SAF.church. Thanks for listening. If you enjoyed it, tell a friend. If you didn't, send me an email and let me know how better to reach out to those around you. Until next week, may God richly bless you as you venture into His story each day. In this message, Pastor Mark focuses on Isaiah 1:2-20 to explain how God rejects our religiosity unless our personal piety is connected to social justice. God calls us "seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, and plead the cause of the widow." This means going beyond the requirements of personal morality and fighting against institutionalized evil. It means choosing the side of the poor, the oppressed, and the marginalized, advocating for them, and fighting for fair and equal treatment. It means embracing the sacred worth of all people. Anything short of this makes our worship an abomination to God.
