If you look at the state of Leica cameras right now, you'll see a carefully selected set of items. Their cameras are great in so many ways. But for lots of photographers, they're still not perfect. I'm not talking about the folks who won't buy them, to begin with. But I'm geeking out here with the folks who adore Leica cameras from the start. In this post, I discuss my idea for the perfect Leica camera. It addresses some of the problems found in the Leica M11 and even some with the Leica Q2. Most of all, it feeds into the gear acquisition syndrome that we have; but doesn't encourage us to be irresponsible. Take the Leica Q2 Leica designed and built the Leica Q system many years ago. And for some, it's the perfect camera. The Leica Q2 has improved over that. Wedding photographers and others talk it up. Every time it's in my hands, I fall for it just a little more. It feels like a Leica M but in a much more modernized way. The Leica M is an exquisite camera. And by all means, before we go on, please understand that I'm not saying that Leica should get rid of the other M-series cameras. But instead, let's call this the Leica Q-CL. I'm calling it this because the Q2 is smaller than an M. Anyway, though, we're starting out with the body and full electronics of the Leica Q2. Give it a the Leica M-Mount We're removing the excellent autofocusing lens on the Leica Q2, and we're replacing it with an M-mount. Indeed, the lens is part of what makes the Q2 special. It's sharp, versatile, can shoot macro stuff, and autofocus quickly with the latest firmware updates. But instead, we're removing the Leica Q2's lens, and we're giving the Leica Q-CL an M-mount. This means that it can shoot so many different lenses, like the 50mm f2 Summicron-APO and a bunch more. On top of that, we're using an EVF. If Leica adds a joystick, it will make selecting the focusing area much more straightforward. A photographer will be able to magnify anywhere in the frame, focus, and then shoot. What would be even more tempting is giving the Leica Q-CL internal 64GB storage. Let's also be very honest here; it doesn't need autofocus. If you're buying a Leica camera, then you understand the tactile functionality of it. You're purchasing a passion product that can still take beautiful photos. Leica cameras are a tactile experience that Sony, Canon, and Nikon can't even comprehend. If someone says that they're paying all that money and that there is no autofocus, they just don't get it. That's fine. Weather Seal the Mount Finally, Leica would add some sort of weather-resistant to the mount. And if we're really dreaming big, then they'll also start delivering a line of Leica M-mount lenses that have complete weather sealing. We know that it's possible, and we know that Leica's durability is undoubtedly very high. But let's get official! Even if you're not taking your camera out into the rain, the weather-resistant would still keep the functionality very high and for a longer time.

Mirrorless question of the month: Hi, first of all, a big thank you for the great photography podcasts that you release each month. You guys have become one of my favorite photography outlets :) I’m actually a better painter than a photographer but my question involves both art forms. I paint on large canvas and would like to create high-resolution files of my paintings for archiving and digital post-processing. The paintings are much too large to scan. I own an old Nikon D7000 with 16MP and have been wanting to upgrade to a recent mirrorless camera. I’m looking at Panasonic and Olympus cameras as the 4:3 aspect ratio fits that of my paintings and both cameras have a high-resolution mode that can produce 80MP images from the 20MP sensor. Do you think that the high-resolution mode will enable me to get good quality large files of my paintings or is this just a marketing gimmick? The Sony FE 24-105 f4 G OSS lens is a fairly light and versatile zoom. According to Scott and some early reviewers the M.ZUIKO Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO and M.ZUIKO Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO will be game changers for their light gathering and shallow depth of field and bokeh. It is a fixed zoom lens camera that has a 24 MP APS-C sensor with dual pixel AF and Digic 7 processor and a fixed 24-72mm equivalent zoom lens with the fastest aperture between f2.8-5.6. It shoots bursts of up to 9fps and can record video at 1080/60p video. It weighs only 400g or 14oz and is like a fixed zoom lens version of the EOS M5 interchangeable lens camera. https://bhpho.to/2hs5PJw   Hasselblad adds two new lenses to their lens roadmap. The XCD 80mm (63mm FF equivalent - aperture is still unknown) and the XCD 135mm f2.8 plus a dedicated 1.7x teleconverter. http://www.hasselblad.com/lenses/x-system   Hasselblad has released a firmware update for the X1D.  This FW 1.19  update adds more options to make the camera more overall more customizable. A classic lens from the 1930s that is known for its extremely soft and blurry images and bubbly bokeh wide open. The Share SP-3 SQ prints to the Instax square instant film and can print directly from your Fuji X camera or it can be used as a printer connected to your computer or smartphone. Nikon blames the rise of smartphones for this drastic step. Nikon also seizes their camera sales in Brazil. Would I lose AF speed, accuracy, or IQ on those lower end models compared to the higher end ones?
