It was New York, in 1973, and though Rove v Wade had become law, I was having trouble finding a doctor. During my initial examination Dr. Lowenthal, was clinically brusque, but then a few days later at the hospital when he presented in his wheelchair, my mother couldn't hide her unnerving apprehension in her voiced fears — it was a whirlwind. The daunting intricacies of the late-term procedure and the risks that came with it – are laid bare along with emotional turbulence at the moment of chilling realization that the doctor was operating without anesthesia. This is a raw and unfiltered description of the often overlooked, intense fear, the physical agony, and the psychological distress, of abortion. The complete documentary Through a BlueWindow can be seen on my youtube channel shellfein1. I would love to hear your thoughts.Thank you

In 2019, I went to New York City for 24 hours. I told my high school teachers I was sick, postponed two tests, and asked for an extension on a project; all because Jerome Lowenthal had agreed to give me a piano lesson at the Juilliard School. On a cold New York Winter Night, I went to his studio and he heard me play Bach and Beethoven. We went on for an hour as he corrected my interpretations and offered me ideas that wouldn't have occurred in my wildest dreams. A little after 9:15 PM he admitted that he needed to go eat dinner and left me to explore the world of these two composers. Since that day, and from the beginning of Cultural Mixtapes, I knew I wanted to speak to Jerome Lowenthal. At 91, he is entering his 33rd year on the Piano Faculty at the renowned Juilliard School, and maintains a busy performance and touring schedule, as you'll see from the interview. The premise of the interview was very simple: After listening to his recordings and performances online, as well as videos of him teaching students, I wanted to hear him speak at length about his artistic philosophies. The question of interpretation, whether that's novels, poetry, or music, has been central to this podcast. Classical music interpretation is a behemoth of art. And if you're not too familiar, it's simultaneously historical and ephemeral. An interpretation of a great composer's music is built upon history and musical theory, but it's also a semi-instinctual shaping of sound to match taste. Interpretations vary and can change over time, and because of the nuance with which one can speak about it, I think classical music provides a beautiful window to study art-making at its highest levels. And this conversation proved to be exactly that. We dive into Mr. Lowenthal's musical upbringing, as well as instances that shaped his artistic opinions, but for the majority of the episode, you'll hear him talk about the act of interpreting music and art and interpret specific questions from the classical repertoire in real time. He draws upon history and memory and decades of experience to service the composer but most importantly, service the music itself. This conversation is a bit esoteric if you're not a musician. We mention many composers and pieces, as well specific intricacies of piano playing. But I encourage you to keep listening even if you're lost amidst the names and terms. Because while Mr. Lowenthal is reflecting on his life in music, we start to see other ideas emerging, about the purpose of artmaking, and the meaning that can be derived from synthesizing different art forms. This interview is a love letter to music and a statement of artistic ideas that transcend time, genre and history. A quick note: there were many instances when Mr. Lowenthal played the piano, but unfortunately due to zoom audio and internet issues, they were not audible. I have inserted a couple of recordings of his performances, in between the interview, but all the music that we discuss is listed in the show notes. Actualize Freedom | Amazon FBA with Danny Carlson | Private Label Ecommerce Selling on Amazon
We've all heard how combined, Amazon's European marketplaces are equal in size to Amazon US. That's no small amount of revenue up for grabs. But you've likely also heard horror stories.20% taxesStrict customs regulationsStuck shipmentsGDPR, and other acronyms that give us headaches. That's what has kept thousands of successful American brands from expanding internationally. But if it's really so difficult to expand to Amazon Europe, why are so many brands of all sizes finding success there? From 8 figure supplements brands to 1 product startups, Amazon Sellers are increasing their revenue by selling the same products to more people in more countries. And it's probably easier than you've been led to believe. We brought on expert in all things international e-commerce Rael Lowenthal to give us the playbook for quick, easy, and low-risk expansion from US to EU marketplaces. In this episode of the Actualize Freedom Podcast:How to test European markets by risking less than $1000Why "good debt" is a key pillar for fast-growing Amazon sellersHow to avoid dumb mistakes with legal compliance in multiple foreign countriesVAT broken down into easily understood terms (for non-lawyers, ex. regular people) You can reach out to Rael and his team at zee.co to inquire about help with anything to do with expansion to European marketplaces on Amazon. VAT setup, importer of record (IOR), customs compliance, stuck shipments, or international freight. What is An Importer of Record? In simple terms, it's a government's way of ensuring that every foreign brand has a domestic company that will take responsibility for ensuring proper compliance with local import regulations. You can't import into many countries in Europe without a local company acting as your importer of record or IOR. It makes sense when you think about all the black-hat Chinese sellers who were blatantly ignoring VAT regulations. The governments have little power over bad-actors in other countries. By making an IOR mandatory, there's at least a local company who must take responsibility for illegal activity if the company they are representing is breaking laws or failing to pay their fair share. What is VAT?VAT is short for Value Added Tax, and is the big scary 20% (ish) tax that Amazon sellers have nightmares about. At first it sounds complicated, but once you understand how it works it's not as bad as it seems. It varies by country and we highly recommend working with a company to help you ensure correct compliance."The European Union value-added tax (or EU VAT) is a value added tax on goods and services within the European Union (EU). The EU's institutions do not collect the tax, but EU member states are each required to adopt a value added tax that complies with the EU VAT code. Different rates of VAT apply in different EU member states, ranging from 17% in Luxembourg to 27% in Hungary."wikipedia

There are two ways to expand your Amazon business: add more products to your seller portfolio or enter new international markets. The latter option can be quite daunting with all the importation compliances sellers need to fulfill. This week, we sit down with Rael Lowenthal— the director of business development at Zee— to discuss how e-commerce sellers can expand their business to international markets without hitting a major roadblock. Join us as Rael talks about how their IOR firm addresses the pain points of scaling an e-commerce business to international markets. He meticulously explains how Zee acts as a one-stop shop for Amazon sellers to tackle international shipping, customs/ VAT compliances, and FBA constraints. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zonguru/message
“At MicroMass, we see people, not just their disease or their demographics, but the human inside. Our aim is to understand them, inspire them, change their behavior and reach them where it can make the most impact.”This is how Rob Peters, EVP, strategy; and Noah Lowenthal, executive creative director, both at MicroMass, explained their approach to changing health for the better during a recent podcast with MM+M's editor-in-chief, Larry Dobrow. The conversation took an in-depth look at how leveraging the company's Human Dynamics — the influences that help people make decisions and engage with information — can help build connections to positively affect a patient's journey.Human Dynamics and its relevance to pharma marketers and brands“Human Dynamics builds on the basis of behavioral science,” explained Peters at the outset. “We realized that we've got an opportunity to strengthen that approach and the offerings we provide to our clients by leveraging that deep understanding of human behavior and complementing it with the growing volume of data.”But it all starts by thinking about the person within the patient and building a relationship with them based on their needs or preferences.“Once we have that understanding, we can craft our creative around engaging with them in a way that adapts to their unique experience, accounting for all the changes that are going to happen with the human dynamic,” Peters went on to explain.Internally, MicroMass calls Human Dynamics “behavioral science 2.0,” a term that Lowenthal explains as, “It's one thing to uncover a behavioral psychological truth about how a certain patient with a specific condition views themselves, but, what human dynamics does is it says, ‘OK, how does that inform the creative strategy and what we're doing when a patient engages with us at different times of the day on different devices?' What we do is weave the thread of human dynamics and behavioral psychology through it all and integrate it so that there's more purpose and greater outcomes.”How Human Dynamics creates a stronger connection between brand and customerAt MicroMass, seeing a person not just as someone with diabetes (for example), but recognizing that they are also a mom, a soccer coach, a spouse and a busy executive influences the way they engage with a brand and make decisions about their condition. “By starting there, we've got a better understanding of how that person processes information, how they engage and what day-to-day dynamics might get in the way of them managing their condition,” said Peters. “That gives us a better starting point than the typical snapshot of a patient you get through doing market research.”While a lot of pharma brands talk to patients and learn valuable information in the moment, Peters mentioned that “When that patient goes home and is dealing with all these other factors that weren't discussed or taken into account, those learnings become outdated.”Part of the remedy for this kind of siloed intel, as Lowenthal sees it, is to create a connective tissue that binds teams and departments together. “Human Dynamics is a way of approaching patients that informs and unifies each team's understanding of what we're trying to accomplish,” he explained. “It's not a process, but a way of thinking that results in more authentic, relevant and engaging work for the patients who encounter it.” The future of Human DynamicsTo Peters, the future revolves around “broadening the exposure of human dynamics to potential clients in order to give them a valid reason to invest in patient marketing sooner and see the impact of their brand goals in a more effective way.Speaking a little more narrowly, Lowenthal, who was brought into MicroMass recently to elevate agency creative using Human Dynamics, said “the goal is to take the authenticity of behavioral science and connect it to the creative so that we're more connected to the human condition than what we've seen in the past.”For both Peters and Lowenthal, the industry trend is moving toward authentic emotions and feelings. “I think Human Dynamics allows us to recognize the whole human as part of a creative platform,” said Lowenthal. “And we look forward to continuing to broaden that exposure to potential clients of Human Dynamics and bring them a solution that drives their brand goals in a more effective way,” concluded Peters. The future of patients as humans is upon us.To learn more about the revolutionary Human Dynamics approach by MicroMass, visit MicroMass.com.

It's no bigger than four decks of cards stacked one on top of the other — a tiny box raided from an Irish church. In Ireland, the box held the holy remains of a saint. What a mound of sand, some leftover nails and the box itself tell us about the Viking raiders who stole it — and what they did with it when they brought it back to Norway. Today we are talking about faith which is trusting that there is a loving source of which you are a part. Having faith means that you can let go of fear and tight control and trust that there is a great wisdom within and around you, allowing yourself to breathe and listen for spiritual guidance. Having faith means that even though the recovery process may become difficult and dark, you can trust that you will also find the grace and light.
