Lesson #6: "Learn to Read then Read to Learn: The critical importance of the 3 R's" In this episode, meet 3 families who share their practical insights on how to help children on the spectrum ‘learn to read and then read to learn'. The twins, Amelia and Abigail, are homeschooled and learn to read fairly early with lots of creative ideas from their parents, especially mom; Alex has a reading disability but learns to read later in his school career because the family was persistent and found the right teachers; and Kate was hyperlexic and could read phonically at a very young age but had trouble with reading comprehension. Please note that a substantial number of autistic children will not be able to read because they are not developmentally ready but if the child shows the ability described in this podcast as being at Greenspan levels 6 to 7, they have the potential to read. Back in 2017, he had sold his previous media startup, The Content Marketing Institute, to one of the world's largest event conglomerates.   Joe ran The Tilt with a very similar playbook – first starting with a weekly newsletter, and then expanding into an in-person conference called The Content Entrepreneur Expo, or CEX. The venture was so successful that he sold it to Lulu Press in 2023.   In our interview, Joe talked about his newsletter growth strategy, what it takes to put on a successful conference, and why he prefers the term “content entrepreneur” instead of “creator.”

Meet Ryan Winter, a French Cajun author born and raised near the city of New Orleans. He tells his story of depression which seems to be a mixture of heredity and the misfortunes that occurred in his life, including Hurricane Katrina. He is an experienced Freelance Writer with a demonstrated history of working in the writing and editing industry. Ryan is skilled in Film Production, Linguistics, Creative Writing, and Short Films. He describes his childhood, which he felt was free of any signs of depression. I found it interesting that, like me, his mental health issues mostly started entering 7th grade in a harsher new school environment. How to organize it matters a lot, especially in a resource-constrained environment. The need for scarce talent, particularly in engineering is such that new business models are bound to be explored. Why would parents be the only group investing in educating talent? It might make more sense that governments, lenders, or employers invest, or that students invest in themselves, with collateral in their own IQ or career trajectory. The stakes are high, despite the vast space available, mistakes could be costly, both immediately and ultimately. Asteroid mining is fascinating, but using telescopes to keep Earth safe makes a lot of sense, too. Trond's takeaway The hydrogen economy is coming, it is not even a question of when, it is exactly how we will make it work in the coming decades that is the interesting part. The innovation is not so much in pure R&D as it is in coordinating the introduction of a new fuel source paradigm which would mean building hydrogen-driven planes, but also tweaking airport infrastructure to cater to hydrogen as a fuel source. The key will be to achieve modularity, to increase the efficiency with which cargo and fuel flows through the supply chain. These long-term shifts are not easy to see for politicians and asset owners, but will entail their buy-in.  Thanks for listening. Episode SummaryA smashing success at the box office and awards shows, Beauty and the Beast (1991) confirmed that the Disney Renaissance had indeed arrived.  Despite its technical and narrative achievements, this film garnered heavy criticism from the feminists it sought to appease with a spunky heroine. Erin and Rachel discuss how Belle and her suitors reinforce that gendered violence is a tale as old as time. Oh, and also, is everyone gay?Episode BibliographyAn American Tail: Fievel Goes West. Trond's takeaway Despite the common thinking that presidents have a lot of power, presidents only get one shot at presenting their key message, after that, they are always compared to that standard. Also, their presidency tends to be shaped by outside events as much as by their own ideas. This complicates marketing. James Polk, Herbert Hoover, and Barack Obama were three presidents presiding over especially disruptive periods in history and each had a tech relevance. What if I have to imagine what future presidents' (2024, 2028) marketing pitch might be? I can imagine something about Ending COVID-19, Global leadership to defend democracy, but more likely one of them will be about Event X, some previously unknown that they will have to focus on). Can biology truly be put under human control to fix our energy challenges, reduce emissions, and put us towards the path of regenerative economic growth? Time will show, but startups such as Cemvita are making headway. There is no question of the need for industrial biomanufacturing as a novel approach. Perhaps because the technologies used had already got so much mileage in other domains, it was regarded as less of a discussion point in marketing. Also, it challenges the notion of creativity as something uniquely human. My take is that we will be surprised both at the creative results machine algorithms can yield and by its limitations. Futurized goes beneath the trends to track the underlying forces of disruption in tech, policy, business models, social dynamics and the environment. I'm your host, Trond Arne Undheim, futurist and author. In episode #105 of the podcast, the topic is: The Future of Child Abuse Online. Our guest is Chris Wexler, CEO and co-founder of Krunam. In this conversation, we talk about the business of removing digital toxic waste from the internet using AI to identify Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). The host of this podcast, Trond Arne Undheim, Ph.D is the author of Health Tech: Rebooting Society's Software, Hardware and Mindset--published by Routledge in 2021, Future Tech: How to Capture Value from Disruptive industry Trends--published by Kogan Page in 2021, Pandemic Aftermath: how Coronavirus changes Global Society and Disruption Games: How to Thrive on Serial Failure (2020)--both published by Atmosphere Press in 2020, Leadership From Below: How the Internet Generation Redefines the Workplace by Lulu Press in 2008. After listening to the episode, check out: Chris Wexler (@ChrisWexler): https://www.linkedin.com/in/chriswexler/  Krunam: https://krunam.co/  My takeaway is that Child Abuse Online is a growing problem and there is no simple technology fix. We are dealing with those who push the limits of pornography, one of the most adaptive applications on the internet. Keeping a watchful eye and reporting abuses as we come across them, seems like a sensible approach, supporting businesses such as Krunam, who use AI to fight it, also makes sense. It is encouraging that there now are clever people, technologies, and organizations helping law enforcement with this endemic problem. Regulating the players whose business models touches this area more vigorously would also help. Thanks for listening. Within creation lies the dangerous yet enthralling possibility to get a glimpse at the human mind in its raw and ravenous form as it digests our reality into personal experience and memorabilia as we cascade into the future laid before us. May we continue to use art to communicate, understand, commentate, reveal, explore, nurture, discuss, celebrate, and study the revolting yet remarkable tale of the human condition. Patrick S. McKay, an apostle of the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches, believes that the Latter Day Saint movement is fractured. But one day soon, he hopes, that will change. In his new book, Healing the Breach: Mormonism, Metaphors, and the Pieces of the Puzzle(Lulu Press, 2018), McKay has collected testimonies from various Latter Day Saints to reveal the rich tradition of similarity that exists among them. It is McKay’s intent to reunite the Latter Day Saint churches and to prove once and for all that they have more in common than previously thought. Each branch of the Latter Day Saint movement has a legacy of testimony that has been created, preserved, and transmitted since the movement’s founding, he asserts, and by revealing these testimonies, McKay hopes to promote an ecumenical ministry of healing, one that will unify the Latter Day Saint churches and encourage them to see their shared heritage. McKay’s musings are definitely worth a listen. Daniel P. Stone holds a PhD in American religious history from Manchester Metropolitan University (United Kingdom) and is the author of William Bickerton: Forgotten Latter Day Prophet (Signature Books, 2018).
