Al hablar de integración social de los inmigrantes solemos privilegiar la necesidad de políticas estatales y gubernamentales que aseguren la misma. Del mismo modo, un sinnúmero de organizaciones de distinto tipo se ocupan del tema en todo el territorio canadiense. Pero si esas políticas están acompañadas de creatividad y originalidad, por parte de los distintos sectores implicados, la posibilidad de éxito, en lo que se refiere a integración, se acrecienta. Así lo entendió la entidad Motivaction Jeunesse, que organizó una “expedición polar” en bicicleta con 17 jóvenes inmigrantes, para ayudarlos a hacer la primera inmersión en su nueva sociedad. Rufo Valencia por su parte nos habla de la batalla para mejorar el salario mínimo en Canadá. La campaña por incrementar los salarios mínimos en diversas regiones de Canadá abrió las puertas a un intenso debate nacional sobre a cuánto debería llegar un salario mínimo para que sea realmente suficiente como para atender las necesidades básicas de una persona. Resulta que a menudo no son muy claros los objetivos de los gobiernos de las provincias de Canadá cuando establecen los niveles de lo que se llama un salario mínimo. Los trabajadores que tratan de mantener a una familia ganando apenas el salario mínimo describen la experiencia como un desafío físico y emocional. Quienes más sufren en carne propia las limitaciones que de los salarios mínimos son las mujeres. Leonardo Gimeno nos dice que agencias de seguridad de EEUU aconsejan no utilizar ciertos teléfonos por razones de espionaje. El espionaje institucionalizado es cosa de todos los días. Al hablar de integración social de los inmigrantes solemos privilegiar la necesidad de políticas estatales y gubernamentales que aseguren la misma. Del mismo modo, un sinnúmero de organizaciones de distinto tipo se ocupan del tema en todo el territorio canadiense. Pero si esas políticas están acompañadas de creatividad y originalidad, por parte de los distintos sectores implicados, la posibilidad de éxito, en lo que se refiere a integración, se acrecienta. Así lo entendió la entidad Motivaction Jeunesse, que organizó una “expedición polar” en bicicleta con 17 jóvenes inmigrantes, para ayudarlos a hacer la primera inmersión en su nueva sociedad. Rufo Valencia por su parte nos habla de la batalla para mejorar el salario mínimo en Canadá. La campaña por incrementar los salarios mínimos en diversas regiones de Canadá abrió las puertas a un intenso debate nacional sobre a cuánto debería llegar un salario mínimo para que sea realmente suficiente como para atender las necesidades básicas de una persona. Resulta que a menudo no son muy claros los objetivos de los gobiernos de las provincias de Canadá cuando establecen los niveles de lo que se llama un salario mínimo. Los trabajadores que tratan de mantener a una familia ganando apenas el salario mínimo describen la experiencia como un desafío físico y emocional. Quienes más sufren en carne propia las limitaciones que de los salarios mínimos son las mujeres.
