Send us a Text Message.Over the past three interviews and five episodes, I was beginning to get the feeling that we were drifting too far afield of the original intent of this podcast. That is writing and performing songs. However, each of our subjects are song writers. Mark Baxter our Vocal Behaviorist has been writing songs all along since he started in rock bands in the last century. Yaron Gershovsky, band leader of the Manhattan Transfer, is constantly writing and publishing new, original songs. And Debra Monk, our star of stage and screen, early in her career, collaborated on the songs for the Tony nominated “Pump Boys and Dinettes” and other musicals. So, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I hadn't wandered too far from my original purpose. All these people are legitimate songwriters. This is often what the life of the songwriter is like. Precious few can live off their songwriting talent alone. Now, I'm not a rich person. Oh, I do Ok, and I don't really lack for anything, but I don't have a lot of disposable income. So, I've decided to sort of pay back these three with the only currency I have. I've written three new songs. Each one of the three subjects inspired a different song. Today we'll hear those songs and follow the process of their creation.Welcome to the 50th episode of the Tim Tunes podcast. Begun on a whim almost three years ago, I started with the stories and recollections of my best songs. I thought I'd be done once I made through the first batch. But episode after episode, I managed to find some songwriting or performance-based content to share with you listeners. In this episode we'll explore three recently written songs that were inspired by the subjects of this season's podcast. If you haven't listened to episodes 5-1 through 5-5, I suggest you go back and give them a listen to better appreciate these songs. Back in the ‘60s and early ‘70s I lived in a suburb in Maryland just over the line from Washington, DC. As it happened when we moved there in 1964, the neighborhood was largely white. Around 1969 I started forming Rock Bands with my friends. We listened to top 40 and played the songs we liked, and could play. I was only 15 at the time and was too young to play in clubs, but that would come later. When we first moved in only about 5% of the neighborhood was non-white. Over the next 7 years the neighborhood became almost completely black. Now, I had no problem with this except that crime began to rise. I was almost mugged twice. A neighbor was shot by undercover police when he pulled out a gun as they stopped him one night, not a block from my house. While I was away at college, my parents decided to move to a different place. Almost everyone I knew from the old neighborhood had moved away. The old neighborhood just – dissolved. So, you'll see why this episode speaks to me as we continue our discussion with Mark Baxter – Vocal Behaviorist as he tells us his origin story. How a kid from New Jersey winds up as one of the premier voice consultants and teachers in the world.I'm Tim Rose and this is the Tim Tunes Podcast. This episode is Part Two of my interview with Vocal Behaviorist, Mark Baxter. If you haven't listened to part one, I highly suggest that you do so before listening to this episode. Mark lays out his philosophy and methodology in part one. In this episode Mark will tell us about his struggles to find his path and how he developed his dream. This is Mark's site where you can contact him and find his free voice lessons - voicelesson.comSupport the showPlease consider making a one time donation via the Paypal link aboveOr, consider becoming a monthly subscribing patron of the show here:https://www.patreon.com/timtunesAnd get lots of extra documentation and music associated with the show.

Singing is your birthright. Everyone can sing. Some of us are wounded by our experiences, by the negativity of others, and believe we can't sing. But all of us can sing. Singing is a window to the soul. Singing with others provides a depth of emotion that is rarely, if anywhere else, experienced. Group singing can be joyful or happy, smiling or laughing as you sing. Or it can be deeply sad or mournful, empathy is built into our nature. Grief is especially powerful when expressed in song. It's not just regular people who have negative thoughts and practices around singing, it's also professional singers. Most of us have been told at one time or another that we are not good singers. And that sinks in, even if we deny it. So where can a quality singer turn if they need help with their singing voice? We're about to find out in this episode.I'm Tim Rose and welcome to Season, I can hardly believe I'm going to say it, 5 of the Tim Tunes Podcast. Today is our forty-second episode. This season we'll feature in-depth interviews with performers and music professionals. We'll speak with musicians, singers, band directors, and service providers. We're starting this season with a pair of podcasts that features Mark Baxter, vocal behaviorist. I'll let Mark explain what that means. Today's Podcast: The shooting death of British Columbia RCMP Constable Rick O'Brien, as well as the numbers of police officers killed on duty in Canada brings to the fore the issue of what must be done to reduce the risk to police officers. Today is Police and Peace Officers National Memorial Day with ceremonies and police attendance from across Canada in Ottawa. Guest: Mark Baxter. President: Police Association of Ontario. The issue of pronoun selection, name change and gender identity among Canada's youth and mandatory reporting by teachers/schools to parents of children under 16 years of age is increasingly polarizing. This week saw marches across Canada supporting these provincial policies and counter-protests. The first province to introduce a policy requiring parents be informed if their children under 16 are choosing different pronouns/names was New Brunswick with Policy 713. Guest: Blaine Higgs. Premier. New Brunswick In April of 2014, Matthew de Grood attended an end-of-school-term party in a home in Calgary's North-West. de Grood would, in the worst mass killing in Calgary's history, stab to death Kaitlin Perras, 23, Zackariah Rathwell, 21, Jordan Segura, 22, Josh Hunter, 23, and Lawrence Hong, 27. In 2016 de Grood was found NCR (Not Criminally Responsible) and found to be living with undiagnosed schizophrenia. He has since been living at the Edmonton Alberta Hospital and receiving psychiatric treatment, while appearing annually before the Alberta review board to have his case and detention assessed. In September of last year the board determined de Grood posed a "significant risk" to the public and would not be granted an absolute discharge. de Grood is now seeking to have the Supreme Court of Canada hear and consider his case and grant more freedoms. We speak with the father of one de Grood's victims. Guest: Gregg Perras, father of Katie Perras When men ignore health warnings and in this case symptoms of prostate health issues it can and does lead to metastasized prostate cancer. Metastasized prostate cancer is immediately classified as Stage 4. My reality, diagnosed in February of this year. Remarkable and effective very new and significantly life-extending medical treatments available, with more in the pipeline, however, they are not without considerable side effects which some men tolerate better than others. Todd Seals (toddseals63.blogspot.com) at age 42 was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer and given months to live and well before the newest drugs became available. 17 years later Todd is very much alive and while the cancer remains a threat, Todd Seals has become a much talked and written about survivor, motivator, as well as a contributor to U.S. World and News Report. His addresses his life since diagnosis 17 years ago and metastatic prostate cancer. Guest: Todd Seals and Roy Green speak about the journey and experience of living with Stage 4 metastasized prostate cancer, Seals with 17 years experience while I am just beginning that journey as modern medicine is hopefully increasingly turning this killer into a treatable chronic illness. --------------------------------------------- Host/Content Producer – Roy Green Technical/Podcast Producer – Tom Craig Podcast Co-Producer – Matt Taylor If you enjoyed the podcast, tell a friend! Mark Baxter is an experienced officer and investigator with a demonstrated federal and local law enforcement work history. He is an expert recognized by the Maryland Courts as a counterfeit document specialist. He is also an accomplished instructor with experience training federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and civilian organizations. He created the "Fake ID-Real Problem," which fights the use of fake IDs. To achieve maximum nationwide impact in combating this issue, he established SureScan, utilizing his years of experience. An entrepreneur on a mission to make a difference in the lives of others, driven by a strong sense of purpose and a strong desire to make a positive impact. Using Skills From His Job as an LEO to create a business. Mark Baxter took the knowledge gained on the job and parlayed it into success. Why do you need to listen to today's episode? Discover how developing a comprehensive ID verification database or program could greatly support law enforcement agencies in combatting identity fraud. Gain insights into the challenges of obtaining real IDs for testing purposes and the importance of constantly updating the program with the latest information. Explore how our guest develops a breakthrough solution for enhancing ID verification for law enforcement officers, providing a more accurate and reliable approach. "I always feel like there's a better way to do things that have been done the same way forever. So that's one thing that gets me wrapped up is trying to figure out a better way to do this and that." - Mark Baxter Today's Topic: 6:34 - Using drones for law enforcement and firefighting. Drones are useful for law enforcement in tracking missing people, missing persons, physically disabled people, and even children. For the fire department, benefits include documenting the scene for first responders and identifying people inside a burning structure by their heat signatures. 15:43 - What is SureScan, and what is it all about? The company's mission is to provide government agencies and retailers with the ability to combat fake identity cards. The purpose of using it can be varied, including underage drinking, fraud, and terrorism. It should be noted, however, that the company is geared towards law enforcement in other states and not to that of Maryland, where marijuana is legal. 21:41 - How did Mark Baxter get involved in the ID industry? Mark was always an opponent of ID jobs, and his friends knew that, but colleagues kept sending him new stories about the new ID app. He then tested the ID app for 18 months and was amazed at how well it actually worked. 34:29 - Understand the different state identification versions. Currently, there are over 100 different types of state IDs in circulation, and some states have more than one. Knowing the ones you see most often is the key. 37:19 - How does Mark aim to improve ID verification? The idea of partnering with SureScan and selling a separate app is one of the long-term potentials he sees. To find out what's the next big thing in technology, he is seeking different perspectives. 47:43 - What are Mark's challenges regarding marketing to law enforcement? The goal is to take ID scanning one step further since visual checks are not 100% technology, but a way should be found to meet halfway. Being able to stay updated with the latest is a constant learning experience since things change all the time in different states. Key Takeaways “The issues with the fake IDs, obviously, everybody, the first thing they think of is going to be underage drinking, but there's a whole realm of other bad stuff that will happen” - Aaron Foster. “AI has a lot of good uses and a lot of bad uses. But how can I implement AI into my mortgage and real estate business? So, I like learning new stuff and applying it without knowing it. And I don't think I'll ever stop doing that because I've always been that way. I've always wanted to see myself out on doing it.” - Tyler Thrush. “The key is knowing that you have something to offer. And it's almost like, you'd be remiss not to just because I have this information, you should have it, whether you want to take it or not.” - Mark Baxter Connect with Mark Baxter LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-baxter-0559727a/ Website: https://www.surescan.us/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/surescanID Connect with First Responder Financial Freedom: Website: https://firstresponderfinancialfreedom.com/ Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/First-Responder-Financial-Freedom Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groupsfirstfinancialfreedom YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@firstresponderfinancialfre3914 Resources and People Mentioned: Website: The State of Georgia: https://georgia.gov/uas

How well does your classical singing training prepare you to teach music students today? With the market demanding different skillsets from singers who want to build careers in music theatre, CCM, and other fields, teachers must be familiar with multiple methodologies to prepare their students.Dr. Elizabeth Ann Benson realizes this. As an Associate Professor of Music Theatre Voice at Auburn University, Elizabeth saw the need for a teaching resource that shares the core values and systems different teachers use to instruct their students. Such a resource not only helps teachers learn new methodologies but also familiarizes them with techniques their students were taught by other teachers. This led Elizabeth to interview 26 expert CCM pedagogues — including Irene Bartlett, Mark Baxter, and Kim Chandler — who work with leading CCM and musical theatre singers around the world. The resulting book, Training Contemporary Singers, offers teachers a wealth of collective wisdom they can apply in their own classrooms.Join us as we chat with Elizabeth about the current diversity in modern voice teaching. Listen to her thoughts on the influence voice teachers have over their students and the need for inclusivity and representation in music programs. And learn how connecting with different teaching techniques helps you place students on the right path for their singing goals. In this episode, you'll learn:The advantages Elizabeth's book offers singing teachers on learning different teaching methodologies 06:22New perspectives on belting in musical theatre that go against commonly held beliefs 10:48The different backgrounds in today's voice teaching world 14:39The value of being able to refer students to music teachers better suited for the type of singing students want to learn 15:27The need for representation, inclusivity, and genre equity in today's diverse music programs 20:23How creating a hierarchy of the “best” kinds of music can lead to exclusion and less accessibility for students who come from different backgrounds 24:30The importance of making sure students feel seen, heard, and empowered 25:59The role of size discrimination in the music industry 27:20The importance of taking student body perception when designing your teaching practices 29:12The new expectations Generation Z has for their music teachers 36:07Find Elizabeth's book, Training Contemporary Commercial Singers, on Amazon.Connect with Elizabeth on her website. And be sure to check out Elizabeth's IVA webinar, “Trends in Teaching CCM Singing.” Use the code “iva-podcast” to receive $5 off any upcoming webinar event.About the Institute for Vocal AdvancementInterested in attending professional development webinars with leading voice experts and becoming a more effective instructor? Are you resilient? Because I thought I was too. I thought because I was a police officer I could handle anything life threw at me and I did. Until, I couldn't anymore. As humans, we aren't designed to see the trauma that we see on a daily basis. Think of a suitcase that you are packing. Sooner our later you won't be able to close that suitcase and items will start falling out. That is what happened to me, and sooner or later it can happen to you. The items I couldn't pack away started to manifest into bad habits and addictions. Do an internal search warrant on yourself. Are you really as good as you say you are? A big part of resiliency is getting up and moving forward after a knockdown. However, many of us don't. We linger there. We let that one incident define us. Remember you are more resilient than you know. There is nothing life can throw at you that you can't handle and work through with the right team such as The Shatterproof Program. Please take care of yourself and for once put yourself first. Go out and conquer your day, and your life. Stay tuned for more great guest on The CJEvolution Podcast www.cjevolution.com Patrick

From breathing through your nose to the fine-tuning of your delivery, Mark Baxter knows what it takes to build a vibrant and successful life as a performing singer. His own experience with thousands of performances, plus his coaching of both amateur singers and big stars, Mark draws from a wealth of experience.
The interplay between the lead vocal and accompaniment is a dynamic relationship that can bring a performance to new heights. Mark Baxter teaches about instrumentation, song arrangements and their relationship to the lead vocal.
All singers experience some form of performance anxiety, from a few mild jitters to full blown terror. Mark Baxter has coached Steven Tyler, Goo Goo Dolls and hosts of other pros and amateurs. He has performed in thousands of shows himself, including some challenging situations that left him down-right terrified. He teaches how you can feel in-control and ready to shine.
There's a lot of buzz surrounding the use of virtual reality in learning and development. But how effectively is it being deployed, and how will this change in the years ahead? On this week's episode, Ross D is joined by Rachel Burnham and Mark Baxter to discuss all things VR. If you'd like to share your thoughts on the show, you can find us on Twitter @ross__dickie, @BurnhamLandD, and @digitalnauts. You can also tweet @GoodPractice or @GoodpracticeAus. The Red Pill is ground zero for men who are gathering together on the same journey... a journey of recovering Western manhood and anti-feminist thinking. Mark Baxter is one of the more successful voices in this community, and so I brought him on the show to compare notes. Do Christianity and TRP have anything in common? Where do we overlap? What can we learn from each other? In this episode we find our affinities, and also some of the differences in worldview that still need ironing out. In any case, evangelical Christianity is missing this boat, so I offer to you all a look within a community paralleling much of the Christian worldview. Will you do one or all of these three important parts of supporting the show? Spread the podcast! Give it out on social media, email, to family and friends. Donate! This work isn't free, and Adam needs supporters to give generously to underwrite the work that goes into this program! Click here. Send encouraging feedback here! Questions and comments always welcome here or find me on Twitter. Thank you all. Adam
What does it mean to be a traditionalist? In this conversation with Dean Abbott, Adam brings a variety of urgent topics to the surface. Has evangelical church culture been feminized? Why are young men so hard to get into church? And what about the alt-right? Should we be disheartened by the rise of these dissidents? What drives their antics? Are there Nazis hiding under your bed? And what about the Christian perspective on immigration? Dean and Adam take a shot at each of these topics, and more. Dean is a man's man--a husband and father, (as well as a fellow fan of Wendell Berry), he cares most about the life of the family, community, and those who work hard to build a working civilization. You can also find his recent conversation with Mark Baxter here. Dean's website is deanabbott.com, and you can find him on Twitter here. Thanks to him for an invigorating conversation.

As cars were banned from central Paris this weekend and the health risks of pollution hit the headlines, Mark Porter examines the statistic that pollution kills 29,000 people a year in the UK. And he visits a pioneering clinic at Southampton General Hospital where falls in the elderly are seen as a risk factor for underlying health problems; 'Having a hip fracture is like having a heart attack or stroke' explains Dr Mark Baxter. 50% of people who have a hip fracture will have previously presented with a fall, but once they go on to break a hip, 1 in 10 elderly people may not be alive at the end of the month and up to 25% by the end of the year. Many elderly people are found to be on multiple treatments - blood pressure pills or bladder pills for example - that make people fall over. In recent years there has been much more attention paid to the cumulative burden of the side effects of medicines in the elderly - particularly the group of commonly used drugs known as Anticholinergics. And according to new research by a team at the University of East Anglia, taking Anticholinergics increases the risk of falls too - particularly in men. Following news of the Meningitis B vaccine in children, an Inside Health listener got in touch to ask why it wasn't being given to teenagers in light of data showing that there is a second peak in incidence in the disease among 15 - 19 year olds? Mark talks to Professor Andrew Pollard, Chair of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation. And Inside Language: Dr Margaret McCartney and Professor Carl Heneghan demystify the terminology of medicine and research. This week, false positives and false negatives; when is something not what it seems, and when does it seem what it's not?

BAFTA nominated actor Phil Davis (Vera Drake) and Chalky of Quadrophenia, Whitechapel copper amongst lots of other accolades joins Eddie, Dean and Kevin Stone plus return guest Mark Baxter, to talk new film "Outside Bet", written by Bax, plus lots more for another corking episode.
It's the day when the English FA named the new national manager, Roy Hodgson, so we decided to have a Steptoe and Son style celebration. When tonight's guests suggested they wanted to bring a horse into The Whistleblowers we prepared the studio with hay and carrots. But Paolo Hewitt, Mark Baxter and Calum McNab were merely referring to their latest film project 'Outside Bet'. That's a shameful plug and a waste of carrots. Does anyone really read this?
