The Other Side of Midnight with Lionel celebrates the lost art of the communal movie theater experience. After attending a packed 50th-anniversary screening of the classic, eccentric documentary Grey Gardens, Lionel explores why sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers to watch a "cultural relic" transcends today's era of "binge streaming" and "digital dopamine drips". The conversation pivots to pivotal films that fundamentally changed listeners—not just movies they liked. Dive into discussions about influential cinematic experiences like the groundbreaking production of The Godfather, the genius of Network, the independent charm of Fatso, and the visceral collective reaction to Jaws. It's an entertaining and informative look at film culture, the decline of American "high society", and why the theater remains the "cathedral of American culture". Learn more about your ad choices. Join Sandra for a powerful and evidential conversations on We Don't Die Radio with author Charlie Bynar. Charlie's life was shattered when she lost her only child, her beloved 16-year-old son, Isaac. As a skeptic, she was plunged into a place of "pure darkness," believing that death was a final end. This belief was soon challenged when Isaac began sending her profound and undeniable messages from the other side, beginning with a clear, audible whisper in a dream just two weeks after he passed. This episode chronicles an incredible journey of healing and discovery. Charlie shares the stunning, specific, and life-changing validation she received during a reading with world-renowned medium Allison DuBois—details so personal that only Isaac could have known them. Hear the goosebump-inducing story of how her husband Chris, a civil engineer and complete skeptic, received his own undeniable sign from Isaac in the form of a glowing moon lamp during a power outage at the exact time of his own passing. This is more than just a story of signs; it's a testament to the unbreakable bond between a mother and her son. Discover how Charlie's deep grief propelled her to investigate the circumstances of Isaac's death, how she found purpose through creating Isaac's Ant Foundation in his honor, and how she learned to communicate with her son and her ancestors on the other side. This is a story that proves love never dies and that our loved ones are always with us, guiding us through the darkness. This week, Walk It Out Wednesday brings together Dr. Valerie Crumpton, Pastor Venshard Dobbins, Pastor Don Johnson, and Dr. Oscar Williams to dive deeper into Pastor Touré Roberts' two-part message “On the Other Side of Endurance.” This powerful panel unpacks the book of Matthew and its five discourses leading up to Matthew 24. The conversation centers on Jesus' promise that if we remain steadfast in faith, we will be saved. As they discuss key themes of perspective, persistence, and perseverance, Dr. Williams reminds us that salvation is about staying under the trial and enduring until the end. Dr. Crumpton goes on to reflect on her life and how every test has shaped her, and Pastor Johnson emphasizes perception — that whenever God says “but” He's turning things around. The questions that sparked this spiritually sound discussion include: How should believers handle seasons of shaking? How do we discern between attacks meant to derail us and trials meant to shape us? What habits keep our hearts pure, so our love doesn't grow cold. Through it all, the reminder stands clear: We don't live for victory, but from victory. Welcome to "The Other Side of Midnight," where Lionel and Lynn Shaw (Lynn's Warriors) expose the complex, ongoing domestic warfare being waged on American children and dissect the existential threats facing civilization itself. This episode is a deep dive into how culture is shaping young minds via 24/7 pipelines of sexualized content and dangerous challenges pushed by algorithms "designed to addict". Lionel tackles complex philosophies and looming global threats. The conversation heats up immediately with an intense debate about inductive vs. deductive reasoning and whether human logic must stem from religious axioms or a Creator. Lionel dives into the serious dangers of AI—which some callers believe will lead to the destruction of us all, echoing the rise of Skynet in The Terminator. This fear ties into the critical concept of the locus of control—the fundamental human need to control one's own destiny, which is threatened by aging, violation, and technology. The Other Side Of The Bell - A Trumpet Podcast

This episode of The Other Side of the Bell, featuring trumpet performer, composer and sound designer Tim Larkin, is brought to you by Bob Reeves Brass. This episode also appears as a video episode on our YouTube channel, you can find it here: "Tim Larkin trumpet interview"   About Tim Larkin: Tim Larkin is a composer, trumpet player, and sound designer whose work spans decades across the gaming, jazz, and film industries. His credits include Portal, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, and HBO's The Rat Pack, with past live performances alongside legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Sheila E., and Huey Lewis. Tim won an Academy Award creating sound design for Best Animated Short at the 75th Academy Awards for his work on The ChubbChubbs! Setting Standards is his long-awaited debut jazz album, and was released on August 1, 2025 on all major platforms. The album is a curated collection of reimagined classics and one original composition that captures the emotional breadth, musical depth, and cinematic storytelling that have defined Larkin's career across jazz, film, and video games. Setting Standards includes interpretations of songs by Bobby Caldwell, David Foster, Jimmy Webb, and more anchored by his own original composition, “Gumshoes.” “This album isn't about chasing trends,” says Larkin. “It's about honoring the songs that stuck with me and reimagining them in a way that feels honest keeping the soul intact but letting them breathe in a new space.” Setting Standards blends cinematic jazz, soulful arrangements, and live instrumentation into a cohesive listening experience that's both nostalgic and forward thinking. With contributions from longtime collaborators including John Paris (Earth, Wind & Fire) and renowned arrangers Maurizio Metalli, Lennie Moore and Joris Hoogsteder, the album is a modern take on the classic jazz experience.   Episode Links: Tim Larkin profile on IMDB Setting Standards streaming links Video of Tim conducting the orchestra at the Dota 2 International Championships in 2023, at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle The Dota 2 2025 International Grand Championships Opening Ceremony   Upcoming Events: Virtuosity Musical Instruments Boston, October 17 & 18 Greg Black Mouthpieces, November 7 & 8 North Carolina Music Educators Association Conference, November 9 & 10   Podcast Credits: “A Room with a View“ - composed and performed by Howie Shear Podcast Host - John Snell Cover Photo Credit - Tim Larkin Audio Engineer - Ted Cragg
