This week's returning guest, Chicago native and Patron Mick Hans, brings us Britain's The Only Ones and their 1979 US release 'Special View'. While you might not be familiar with the band, you almost certainly have heard their iconic - often-covered - song 'Another Girl, Another Planet', which AllMusic has described as "Arguably, the greatest rock single ever recorded". Songs discussed in this episode: Another Girl, Another Planet - The Replacements/The Mighty Lemon Drops/The Greg Kihn Band/Blink-182; Another Girl, Another Planet - Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain; I Wanna Go With Dignity - Peter Perrett; Bright Lights - England's Glory; Sparkle - The Fabulous Ratbites From Hell; Better By You, Better Than Me - Spooky Tooth; Another Girl, Another Planet, Lovers Of Today, Peter And the Pets - The Only Ones; Waves Of Fear - Lou Reed; Maid In Heaven - Be Bop Deluxe; Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty; The Beast - The Only Ones; You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory - Johnny Thunders; City Of Fun, The Whole Of The Law, Out There In The Night - The Only Ones; Cool For Cats - Squeeze; Someone Who Cares, You've Got To Pay, Flaming Torch - The Only Ones; Torn Curtain - Television; Curtains For You, From Here To Eternity, The Beast (Live in Chicago 1979) - The Only Ones
Today on an all-new edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to musician/producer Jamie Perrett, son of singer/songwriter/musician Peter Perrett. Best known as a founding member of the U.K. punk band, The Only Ones, Peter has been a somewhat mythical figure in popular music for the last thirty plus years for reasons you will soon hear. Founded in 1976, The Only One's released three albums and their standing as one of the classic, first wave punk bands of the time is cemented with Peter's best known song, “Another Girl, Another Planet.” Called “One of Rock-N-Roll's great survivors,” in Mojo, Perrett's recently released solo album, The Cleansing is getting rave reviews for it's subject matter which The Guardian called a darkly humorous gem and a triumph. Our conversation with Jamie centered around his role as producer and facilitator of The Cleansing, as well as his new single “Glory Days,” which was released the day we spoke. We really dug into things with Jamie who was brutally honest and open about growing up in an unconventional and chaotic household. The stories you will hear Jamie tell are about as raw and frankly, difficult, as you have ever heard on this podcast. Somehow we also get to how Jamie discovered his own music, how making music with and touring with his father is really just a way to explore an unspoken love between them and what it was like growing up & recoding songs about his childhood which included abuse, neglect, fractured relationships and the complexities of growing up with broken promises. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast. Get ready to pick your jaws up off the floor.

Once again, the monthly new release episode is expanded to a two part extravaganza! This week’s show is split between “friends of the show” and long time veterans of the business. The “friends” sections include hometown heroes (Off Contact), a fellow Real Punk Radio personality (Intrusive Thoughts vocalist Greg “Rock ‘n’ Roll Manifesto” Lonesome), a couple of Big Stir Records new tunes, and quite a few email submissions. As for the “veterans”, it’s amazing how much material some of these artists have put out over the years. The new one by Australian singer/songwriter Paul Kelly is his 29th abum. The Fleshtones have probably put out an equal amount of material. Only Ones leader Peter Perrett is back with a new album, and the Pixies, The Effigies, Nick Piunti, and others have a lengthy discography. Plus, we have the monthly new freebies by Friends of Cesar Romero and Vista Blue! For more info, including setlists, head to http://scotthudson.blogspot.com

The debut album by The Only Ones, released in 1978, is a striking blend of punk rock energy and sophisticated songwriting. Led by the enigmatic Peter Perrett, the band crafted a sound that defied easy categorization, merging sharp guitar riffs, jangly melodies, and lyrical depth. The album features their most famous track, "Another Girl, Another Planet," which has since become an iconic anthem of the era. With its infectious hooks and introspective lyrics, the debut showcases The Only Ones' unique ability to balance raw emotion with polished musicianship, making it a standout record in the late '70s music scene.Listen to the album: SpotifyApple MusicLinks:Official websiteContactSupport us on PatreonDISCLAIMER: Due to copyright restrictions, we are unable to play pieces of the songs we cover in these episodes. I slutet av sjuttiotalet turnerade The Only Ones med förband som alla blev gigantiska: Echo & The Bunnymen, Simple Minds, U2. Crossing borders, jumping barriers, taking risks, betting it all: that’s the path Alejandro Escovedo has been taking in his lifelong search for the heart of rock and roll. The epic 17 song suite comprising The Crossing is about that journey: searching, but not necessarily finding, eyes and ears open all the way. Ranging from sweeping orchestral numbers to classic rock to bursts of 70s punk, the collection finds Escovedo delving further into his lifelong musical journey across his most sonically diverse work yet.The Crossing tells the tale of two boys, one from Mexico, one from Italy, who meet in Texas to chase their American rock and roll dreams. They discover a not-so-welcoming, very different place from the Promised Land they imagined, with cameos from the likes of Wayne Kramer of the MC5 and James Williamson of the Stooges to show the boys the way.A Mexican-American kid with Texas roots and California raising taking on immigration issues in two continents with an Italian band, no less, makes perfect sense — if you know Alejandro Escovedo. Forever the curious explorer, he’s been a punk of the rebel kind in The Nuns, a cowpunk of the non-Western variety in Rank and File, commander of a guitar army in The True Believers, an orchestral conductor in his solo work, and a sensitive boy who has outrun death, demons, lust, and lost love in his songs. He has collaborated with Bruce Springsteen, John Cale, Los Lobos, Peter Buck & Scott McCaughey, Los Texmaniacs, and Chuck Prophet. No Depression magazine declared him the Artist of the Decade.Keeping the Escovedo edge sharp on The Crossing are his personal heroes Williamson and Kramer. Additional guests include Peter Perrett and John Perry from UK cult band The Only Ones. Joe Ely - Rio Navidad a spoken word track about a Texan ranger written by novelist and bandleader Willy Vlautin, and read by Freddy Trujillo from Richmond Fontaine and The Delines.

It's a hot August night, and a cloud of smoke has descending into the Willamette Valley as wildfires rage throughout the region. We may not be able to breath freely for a few more days, and cool air is just a dream at the moment, but we decided to brave the elements to bring you tales from the rebuilding of Lisbon after a devastating earthquake in 1755. We have made a good many attempts at reconstruction, and we hope you enjoy these tales as we discuss the merits of Vital Lacerda's Lisboa. Stay cool and breathe free.
