But it doesn't just happen. And if the only people that are working to identify talent are white men, then you're likely to play in that lane because people refer the people they know or they have an unconscious bias towards someone who seems more like them. If you're intentional about it, you'll build a diverse team, and then the question is about making sure all those voices are heard." – Christie Hefner—Time Stamps *(01:10) Christie's Legacy*(04:40) Leading massive change*(07:49) The power of diverse leadership*(13:19) Balancing innovation and discipline*(15:15) Playing to your strengths as a brand*(20:17) Maintaining your consumer relationships*(23:29) How Christie generated nearly $1B in global retail for Playboy in one year*(25:18) The need for more women executives*(27:56) What Christie is excited for next—LinksCheck out PlayboyConnect with Tom Butta on LinkedInCheck out the Airship Website

Tonight we get our Hef on at the Playboy Mansion. ________________________________________________________________________ Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcT8wcspekw5tSzbc3qWPCg/join ________________________________________________________________________ Playboy: The Mansion puts players in the role of Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy Magazine and Playboy Enterprises, referred to in the game as 'Hef'. The aim of the game is to build the famed Playboy Empire from scratch, starting from a humble magazine to celebrity endorsements to home entertainment to Internet websites to merchandise. The player can mold the famed Playboy Mansion to their own needs and wants, and has the option of experiencing the infamous Playboy Playmate parties in locations such as the Grotto and the Clubhouse. Hef, as well as all other characters in the game, can build three types of relationships with other characters: casual, business, and romantic. Each month, the player has to print an issue of the magazine. To do that the player needs a cover shoot, a centerfold, an essay from a celebrity, interview with a celebrity, a pictorial about a subject and an article about a subject. The player must hire photographers and writers to create each issue. All the characters have interests, such as sports and music, and writers on those topics will produce higher-quality articles. In the game, the player is the photographer during photo shoots. The game contains many sexual references, including sexual relationships. ________________________________________________________________________ Grab a beer, a slice of pizza and come hang out with us. Andrea says that in order to stand out in this ever-evolving jewelry world, your company needs a story. The trio also covers climate change and technology. Listen Now[EMBED] Show Notes00:26 Rob and Victoria introduce Andrea Hill, CEO of Hill Management Group.05:57 Andrea describes what the jewelry industry is missing, based on past retail management experience.10:15 Building a successful jewelry business is all about telling a story, and Andrea explains what jewelers need to do just that.14:20 Climate change is real, and Andrea tells us about the “Kindness Economy.”15:13 Andrea serves in a mentorship role and leaves us the pillars to success. Episode CreditsHosts: Rob Bates and Victoria GomelskyEditor: Olivia BrileyProducer and engineer: Natalie ChometPlugs: jckonline.com, @jckmagazine Show Recap Introducing Andrea HillBased in eastern central Wisconsin, Andrea started her tenure in the jewelry industry at Rio Grande. Before she made it there, she worked in a billiards store that started selling video equipment, making her store one of the first video rental stores in the country, pre-Blockbuster. She also worked at Playboy Enterprises, building up their licensing for videos and creating a video catalog. She then bounced around companies as a CEO before landing in the jewelry industry. What The Industry Is MissingAndrea describes her company, Hill Management Group, where she helps people get ready for entering the digital age. You’ll hear her discuss what she has learned from other industries and what the jewelry industry should be taking away from them. She emphasizes that your jewelry company can’t just be the oldest around anymore, as people no longer have to settle for their neighborhood store for jewelry expertise. Jewelry Retail As Storytelling Andrea talks about need to have a rich content strategy. In order to develop your brand in the most efficient way possible, Andrea says you need to know who you are, what you do that makes you different, and why you matter in order to succeed—and that’s just the start. You then need to merchandise your store with products that fit that theme, and someone should always be creating new copy for your website. Kindness EconomyPost-recession, the vast majority of us have accepted that climate change is real and happening, and that something needs to be done about it. We need to be aware of the fact that we are not the center of the world, and other spaces and living things matter too. Andrea describes what she calls the “Kindness Economy” and what customers expect from the retailers they buy from. The Jewelry Industry Should Be Fun Switching topics to the mentor work Andrea does—she argues that mainstream jewelry has become far too generic for its own good. She once again emphasized the importance of your store’s story, giving an example of this in practice. Andrea concludes by telling us all to learn, try new things, experiment, and be willing to fail.

US fintechs are nervous about the fintech federal charter. Fintechs in the US are “cautious” about the specialist fintech charter announced last month. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said it would accept applications for special purpose banking licenses for some types of fintech that do business outside the traditional banking system. They then could operate nationwide under one license rather than a patchwork of state-specific regulations. Standard Chartered Bank sees Hong Kong’s virtual bank licence as ticket to new business worldwide. Standard Chartered which was the first traditional bank in the city to apply for the license, hopes it will open up new areas of growth both in the city and overseas. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is poised to issue the first virtual licences by the end of the year as part of a bid to promote fintech and tap into the growing trend for online finance. Neo-bank Xinja to implement SAP core to take on Australia's Big Four. Australian mobile banking startup Xinja has selected the SAP Cloud for Banking platform to try and take on AUS’ Big Four. And finally, Playboy is reportedly suing a cryptocurrency platform. Playboy Enterprises is alleging that BLOC failed to live up to its end of the contract as in the three months since the deal was made, BLOC has yet to integrate its tech into Playboy's platform, and that it also hasn't paid the $4 million it promised to Playboy as a part of the deal. Thanks to technology, we are more connected than ever—digitally. But at what cost? How have technologies, like online dating sites and apps like Tinder, changed attitudes and behaviors? How do we choose a partner and stay interested when we have an almost infinite world of choices at our fingertips? Will marriage become a thing of the past? Match.com’s Chief Scientific Advisor Helen Fisher joins Eric Klinenberg, co-author of Modern Romance, and Christie Hefner, former CEO of Playboy Enterprises for a conversation about technology’s toll on intimacy.
Christie Hefner is a woman of many talents - and she knows how to put 'em to great use. In this episode of The Golden Mean, Christie talks about her 13-year journey to becoming CEO & Chairman of Playboy Enterprises and how the election of President Obama changed the course of her career. Christie also breaks down the status of the "Independent Maps" project geared toward reforming the rigged districting process in the state of Illinois.
What do Aretha Franklin, Rodney Dangerfield, and desegregation in New Orleans have in common? Perhaps, surprisingly, the answer is Playboy. Playboy magazine served as a guidebook for young people in the post-war era and taught this upwardly mobile generation how to live a modern, sophisticated, and cool lifestyle. It also supported the Civil Rights movement and the careers of many musicians and comedians. In her new book, Playboy Swings: How Hugh Hefner and Playboy Changed the Face of Music (Beaufort Books, 2015),Patty Farmer explores how Playboy Enterprises, through its magazine, clubs, festivals, and record label, promoted and continues to promote jazz. The podcast discusses how Playboy gave many musicians, including Aretha Franklin and Al Jarreau, some of their earliest stage experience. Farmer also talks about how Heffner’s passion for jazz and racial justice caused him to be a strong advocate for integrating the stage at the Playboy Jazz Festival and in his many clubs. Farmer also shares quite a few good stories. Patty Farmer is acknowledged as the leading expert on all things pertaining to music, entertainment–and the entertainers–of Playboy. She’s also a businesswoman and former model, and has followed the entertainment industry as an insider, as well as an avid fan and archivist all her life. Her first book, The Persian Room Presents, transported readers back to the halcyon days of New York City nightlife. More information about Patty Farmer can be found on her websiteand blog. Host Brad Kearns talks to Vinnie Tortorich, "America's Angriest Trainer!" Vinnie is a popular Hollywood trainer known for helping celebs drop weight quickly with his simple, no-nonsense NSNG strategy (No Sugar, No Grains). Vinnie describes getting his foothold in Hollywood by helping an obese employee of Playboy Enterprises lose a couple hundred pounds. Consequently, he caught the attention of the organization and was soon enrolled to help keep centerfolds in top shape after they received their windfall and started indulging in food accordingly. Vinnie is the author of Fitness Confidential and hosts the popular Angriest Trainer Podcast. He has hosted a very impressive assortment of guests in his 300+ shows, including many leading endurance athletes and primal/paleo authors. In this show, Vinnie describes that he is not an angry person, but he's angry on your behalf for the flaws in the conventional wisdom approach to fitness that result in struggling, suffering, and failed weight loss efforts. He blames trainers for not walking their talk and presiding over failed efforts of clients due to an overly stressful approach that fails to account for the importance of healthy, primal-aligned eating habits. Vinnie's advice for trainers trying to break into the big time is to do good work and let the rest happen naturally. Vinnie describes how his book covers an assortment of topics not found in other fitness books, like how to discern a good personal trainer from a bad one, and how to create an effective coach/athlete relationship for triathletes or runners. He offers an epic quote about the triathlon scene these days where, "it seems like there are more coaches doing the sport than there are participants." Vinnie is a lively character with sharp and refreshing opinions, making for a fun and entertaining show.
