Arriving in the Southwest as a teenager, he threw himself into the arts, pursuing a dubious future in music. He entered the Music Department at Stony Brook University and refused to leave until they gave him a PhD and a job. Now he works at the Staller Center where he ‘watches films for a living' while residing minutes away with his more-talented wife and children. Paul Newland has been working in the entertainment industry for close to 40 years with the last 26 at Staller Center for the Arts.  Paul is the only member of the team with an IMDB credit for his groundbreaking work as "Mailman" in the 1997 indie feature "Playing with Mr. Greely" which screened at the Stony Brook Film Festival. Paul's IMDB page Alan Inkles is the longtime director of the Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University, a role he has held since 1995. His journey to this position began after a knee injury performing Romeo in Romeo & Juliet off Broadway led him to Stony Brook University, where he took a part-time job at the Fine Arts Center, which eventually led to a full-time position and, later, the directorship. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in theater arts from Stony Brook University. Under Inkles' leadership, the Staller Center has become a cornerstone of Long Island's cultural scene. He founded the Stony Brook Film Festival 30 years ago, showcasing independent films on the university's large 40-foot screen. The festival has become a significant event, attracting filmmakers and audiences alike. Inkles is known for his hands-on approach and personal touch. He is involved in all aspects of the center's operations, from booking performances to engaging with artists and audiences. His dedication to the arts and the Stony Brook community has earned him recognition and respect from colleagues and artists. Throughout his tenure, Inkles has remained dedicated to providing high-quality performances and films and fostering a vibrant arts community at Stony Brook University. In episode 271, you'll hear why casting vision is a powerful tool that is underutilised by many preachers, and Todd Peebles is going to give you some very practical steps to start. Before that you will hear about Praying Over Your PassageTodd shares his approach to preparing for a sermon, which involves praying over the passage he'll be teaching on. He explains how this practice helps him to connect with God and gain a deeper understanding of the text, enabling him to communicate its message more effectively. Planning a Preaching ScheduleTodd shares his process for planning out a preaching schedule months in advance, including how he selects topics and Scripture passages to teach on. He emphasizes the importance of seeking God's guidance and being open to change as the schedule unfolds.Casting Vision for the Church Casting a vision" for a church is the process of defining and communicating a clear and compelling picture of what the church could and should be in the future. It involves sharing a vision of what the church can achieve, what it stands for, and where it is heading. It is a critical process for churches because it helps to provide direction, focus, and motivation for the congregation. One of the most significant benefits of casting a vision for a church is that it provides a clear sense of direction and purpose. It helps the members of the church understand where they are heading and why they are doing what they do. This clarity can be motivating and inspiring, helping to unite the congregation around a shared vision and a common goal. Todd helps us think through this process together. Todd was born in Stuttgart Arkansas in January 1970. His parents are Phyllis & Allen Peebles. As a child, he was privileged to be an Army Brat. This meant he got to live in some different places. His family lived in Heidelberg Germany, Clarksville Tennessee, Gauiter Mississippi and Crowville Louisiana. Todd Graduated from High School in Crowville Louisiana in May of 1988. In 1990, he began to pursue his childhood dream of working in Law Enforcement. He Served the Stuttgart Arkansas Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff's Department in Greenville Mississippi. In 1995 Todd answered the call to vocational ministry on his life. He began serving in Youth Ministry. In 1996, Fellowship Baptist Church in Texarkana Arkansas Licensed him to the ministry. In 1998, Todd answered the call to serve His first church as Senior Pastor. In May of 1999, Shady Grove Baptist Church of Sparkman Arkansas ordained him to the Gospel Ministry. In October of 2004, Todd and Shelly (Pease) Peebles were married. They now have four wonderful children, one boy and three girls. Todd has served as Pastor at churches in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and now serving as pastor in Kansas. Todd graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity (MDiv) and a concentration in Expository Preaching in December 2011. Todd is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry also from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Todd is passionate about expository preaching, serving in the local church, and helping others with their calling in ministry as opportunities present themselves.Recommended episodes: Leadership Collective : https://www.expositorscollective.com/podcast/2021/6/3/introducing-the-leadership-collective Ted Leavenworth interview: https://www.expositorscollective.com/podcast/2020/11/19/mistakes-new-preachers-often-make-ted-leavenworth Rob Salvato interview: https://www.expositorscollective.com/podcast/2020/5/12/episode-106-preaching-with-brevity-and-clarityFor information about our upcoming training events in Texas and Indiana visit ExpositorsCollective.com The Expositors Collective podcast is part of the CGNMedia, Working together to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and plant churches. Recorded on November 18, 2022, we debriefed following the 2022 NREA conference and all the interesting activities during the conference. We discussed attendees' experiences, including cross-political discussion on how to address challenges in rural education. We also reminded the listeners that the 2023 conference will be in Chattanooga. This episode interviewed Tim Nikolai Senior Rural Health Director for American Heart Association. We discussed how a typical vaping device pod is equivalent to 20 cigarettes. Tim discusses the various health concerns facing rural schools. For example, we discussed the connection between mental and physical health. We discussed the role of obesity and other comorbidities and how tobacco may further contribute to healthcare outcomes. We discussed how the American Heart Association partners with school districts to address health concerns, including learning opportunities for students, teachers, and staff. We also discussed school health emergencies and the current statistics related to rural communities. Further, we discussed the socio-emotional issues in rural education, including the limited resources to help for students and school districts. We explored the role of making science accessible to rural communities in a consumable way. As Tim notes, making the healthy choice the easy choice not only in our own kitchens but also for school district policy as well. Tim Nikolai is the Sr. Rural Health Director for the American Heart Association in the 13-state Midwest Region. After growing up as an “Army Brat,” he graduated from Ripon College - in rural Wisconsin - with a degree in political science and secondary education. He has been with the Association for 14+ years in a variety of roles, many of which involved collaboration with school districts. In his current role, he works with organizations that are based in – or focused on – rural communities. This includes school districts, libraries, hospitals, community health centers, local health departments, and more. His work focuses on changing policies and systems from a barrier to health into a health asset. Video Version https://vimeo.com/stateofreadiness/mark-mcgrath About the Podcast Hello and welcome to another edition of State of Readiness with your host, Joseph Paris. Chaos And Oceans Ltd. Today I am happy to have Mark McGrath, Founder of Chaos and Oceans Ltd, a consultancy specializing in helping individuals and teams thrive in Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (VUCA) environments. He does this by sharing his cross-functional experience and education in the areas of strategic planning, decision-making, process improvement, capital markets, economics, training, and coaching. We start where every journey starts, at the beginning, where Mark shares his early life experiences including being an "Army Brat" of a career officer and how the original Top-Gun changed his trajectory from land to sea; becoming a Marine. And Mark shares the experiences and wisdom gained from his attending university and the instructors who were impactful in his personal and professional development. But it is in the Marines where Mark was exposed to, and became fascinated with, operating in VUCA environments and the Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act (OODA) Loop as a counter-measure. In the podcast, Mark goes on to explain why chaos and VUCA are nothing to fear and shares his “three immutable points”. He also shares why he emphasizes Orientation over observe and why he teaches OODA, and not “OODA Loop”. Everyone operates in chaos and the chaos is only increasing in amplitude and velocity over time. We need to learn, think, and decide in less time and with more orientation. Mark's sharing of his thoughts and experiences may prove invaluable. Mark also shared an article with the Operational Excellence Society entitled, "The Adaptive Entrepreneurial Method". It's worth a read. About Mark McGrath Mark McGrath Mark is the son of a West Point career officer, but he became obsessed with the sea; a convert thanks to Top Gun – the original. He attended Marquette University on a Marine Option NROTC scholarship and earned a BA in History with an emphasis on social and intellectual history in United States and Europe. After graduation, Mark served six-years active duty as a field artillery officer and another two years in the Reserves. After his time in the Marines, he held several leadership roles over the course of almost twenty years in private sector; mostly in finance and asset management industries. He also furthered his academic career and attended the University of Detroit Mercy where he earned a Masters Degree in Economics; with an emphasis on theory based on the Austrian School of Economics. Feeling he had much more to give and create and believing he could not achieve that in the corporate world, he started his consultancy. Mark is a book addict (as is evidenced by the book-shelf in the video), speaks Spanish and is a distance swimmer and surfer. I converted the day before Ramadan in 2004 when I was 24 years old, and I will be 41 in a couple months. I grew up as an Army Brat. I was born on a Military Installation in West Germany (it was still the Cold War), and moved frequently between the U.S. and Europe as a child until my father retired from the Army and we settled in Pennsylvania in 1995. For several years, I was a pharmacy technician until I decided to go to college to pursue a degree in Economics, and I am currently a Junior at Penn State. I am also a proud and happy homemaker. I am an avid reader, and I love crochet. I am extremely passionate about volunteering and also empowering women. Most of my volunteering has been fundraising activities for Muslim organization including several years that organized and led many campaigns for my local Islamic School. Through the years, I have been asked by different groups in the Harrisburg, PA area to speak about my experiences as a Muslim including a panel at the Harrisburg Masjid and also at Harrisburg Area Community College. Lately, though, I have stepped back from volunteering and fundraising to focus on gaining knowledge. My focus now is to become an Islamic Educator for Women. I believe we desperately need them. I think what is most important about my experience is that I was born and raised Catholic. Even though I went to Church and Catholic school, I always felt something wasn't right, and I would pray for God to guide me. I grew in a military household at the end of the Cold War and the beginning of the War on Terror. Before I became a Muslim, my family and I had a very negative opinion of Islam and it's followers because that was the culture that we were exposed to. Then I started working as a clerk with two wonderful Muslims, and I started learning that Islam is not what happened on September 11, but so much more...it was the answer to my prayers. Alhumdilillah. About the Becoming Muslim Podcast Do you have questions about Islam? Are you looking for a new direction in life? I sit down with Author, Producer, and Father C.P. Allen. We discuss how raising 3 children will change you, growing up as an Army Brat, being an Author, and becoming a producer, creating a film during COVID.  You can buy Jije by C.P. Allen at Here. C. P. Allen was born in Biloxi, Mississippi in the fall of 1977. Son of a soldier, he experienced life in many parts of the world, moving every few years to his father's next station. At a young age he developed a passion for the horror and fantasy genres of film. While he never considered writing, he regularly created quests and stories for Dungeons and Dragons games with his older brother Adam and their friends. Sketching was always his first passion. He would pass hours in his room, or, to his parents and teachers dismay, in class, drawing images from his favorite comics, nightmares, and imagination. His first novel, Jije, was never meant to be more than a "write the scariest story you can in one paragraph" challenge he saw on Facebook. Upon showing his friends and family, they insisted he turn it into a full story. As stories do, it took on a life of its own. Two years later C.P. finally penned the words THE END, and Jije was published. January of 2020, he began Pre-Production on the film, based on the novel, JIJE; set to release October 2021.  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jorge-reyes617/support
