This week we're bypassing the randomizer for yet another Guest's Choice episode which also happens to be another Channel KRT crossover, in which the very awesome Kit Quinn "makes" us watch one of the very finest pieces of mainstream filmmaking of the 2010s, a megabudgeted CGI-heavy blockbuster tentpole sequel set in an expansive cinematic universe in which visionary writer/director James Gunn, rather than simply make a soulless cash grab and let the franchise spin its wheels, uses his uniquely enormous canvas to tell an emotionally affecting fable about the desperation of loss, the ripple effect of abuse, the joys and pitfalls of parenting, and ultimately the power of the bonds we form between each other. It's also got a talking raccoon, a character named "Taserface," a David Hasselhoff cameo, and a scene where the main character turns himself into Pac-Man. The Madames play a little catch-up as they cover Episodes 2 & 3 of What If.    In the alternate universe of Episode 2, Ego sends the Ravagers to kidnap his human son, Peter Quill. However, they accidentally kidnap T'Challa, Prince of Wakanda by accident. T'Challa becomes a Robin Hood version of Star-Lord. Along with his cohorts Korath, Thanos, Nebula, Yondu, Kraglin, and Taserface, T'Challa plots to capture the Embers of Genesis from the Collector. The team is successful & T'Challa is ultimately reunited with his Wakandan family.    Episode 2 stars Chadwick Boseman, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, Josh Brolin, Kurt Russell, John Kani, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Gunn, Chris Sullivan, Seth Green, Danai Gurira, Carrie Coon, Jeffrey Wright, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Ophelia Lovibond, and Fred Tatasciore.   Episode 3 calls back to several Marvel movies, including The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Avengers, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In this universe, the Avengers are never formed because they are systematically murdered before they can team up. Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Clint Barton, Thor, and Natasha Romanoff are all killed in mysterious ways. It's up to Nick Fury & Agent Phil Coulson to find the killer. Thanks to some information found by Black Widow and an uneasy alliance with Loki, Fury finds & neutralizes the killer, Hank Pym. Pym was on a mission to avenge his daughter Hope Van Dyne, who, in this universe, was a S.H.I.E.L.D. killed in the line of duty. Fury's alliance with Loki ultimately backfires, as the God of Mischief successfully takes over the world. But Fury is determined to defeat Loki's army, and Captain Marvel arrives to help.    Episode 3 stars Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Lake Bell, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Frank Grillo, Stephanie Panisello, Jaimie Alexander, and Jeffrey Wright.   Online Warriors Podcast:   Twitter   IG   Website   For more details on the film/TV references that spill out of Kris's (and occasionally Amy's) brain, as well as links to other podcasts, visit the episode page on our website: Episode page link Email us at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter  Instagram  Tumblr

We talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Ego, Starlord, Sovereign, Yondu, Ravagers, Mantis, Adam Warlock, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Ayesha the High Priestess is closely associated with Adam Warlock in the comics. The Sovereigns don't exist in the comics. Ego the living planet isn't Peter Quill's father and isn't a Celestial. Mantis was trained in martial arts by the Kree who thought she would become the Celestial Madonna. Yondu is a Centaurian. Yondu's "whistle arrow" is not in the comics. He was in the original Guardians of the Galaxy. You can see why he's called Taserface in the comics. Also, he's ridiculous. The original Guardians of the Galaxy was Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta. Later members included Stakar Ogord, Aleta Ogord, and Nikki. Adam Warlock played a key role in defeating Thanos in the comics. Not sure what Marvel plans to do with him at this point, if anything.

As Deadline indicated today, we heard that Disney kept Free Guy theatrical due to a previous pay-one agreement with HBO; that's the reason it couldn't send the Ryan Reynolds movie to Disney+ Premier, which is the upper tier of the streaming service where subscribers can purchase current theatrical titles for $29.99 each.   As far as the theatrical window for the upcoming Labor Day weekend release of Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Chapek called the 45-day frame for the pic before it hits Disney+ “an interesting experiment,” and “another data point” for the studio as it juggles theatrical releases with its streaming service.   Shang-Chi Early Reactions Promise The MCU's Best Action Movie https://screenrant.com/shang-chi-movie-early-reactions-reviews/   Marvel Studios held the world premiere of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Los Angeles on Monday, August 16. In What If? Episode 2 we see how another small choice affects the entire universe. This time we discover what would happen if the Prince of Wakanda T'Challa went to space instead of music loving Peter Quill. This is a spoiler filled podcast all about the episode. Marvel's What If? Episode 2 Synopsis Executive Produced by: Bryan Andrews, A.C. Bradley, Brad Winderbaum with Kevin Feige Head Writer: A.C. Bradley Episode Written by: Matthew Chauncey Episode Directed By: Bryan Andrews A small choice can change the universe! It's 1988, and in Wakanda the young and curious Prince T'Challa chooses to leave the nation's protective shield. Unfortunately an alien team of Space Pirates known as Ravagers have chosen to land at the same coordinates. Mistaking the young prince for the human son of a being known as Ego, they abduct the boy and take him into the galaxy. Now an adult T'Challa Starlord is notorious throughout the galaxy for his adventures, stealing from the rich to give to the poor alongside his adoptive father Yondu and his crew of Ravagers. He's been told Wakanda was destroyed and his family killed back on earth. Following a successful job on Morag, Starlord returns not only with an infinity stone but with a new crew member, Korath “the Pursuer”. As they celebrate their success back at the Iron Lotus bar on Contraxia, with Thanos the sometimes Mad Titan, Kraglin and Taserface, Nebula comes to T'Challa with a proposition for a heist on the planet Knowhere - to steal the Embers of Genesis from the fearsome galactic crime boss the Collector. Slipping past the Black Order and infiltrating the Collectors collection, while searching for the Embers, T'Challa comes across a Wakandan ship and discovers that Yondu has lied to him about his family's death. At the same time Nebula seemingly betrays T'Challa and the Ravagers to pay off an old debt she has to the Collector. Locked up on Knowhere, things are awkward between T'Challa and Yondu, but T'Challa is taken away to be prepared for collection by the Collector just as Nebula's double, double cross plays out. As the Ravagers escape, Yondu and T'Challa fight the Collector employing the “sticky fingers” tactic to defeat him and face justice from his assistant Carina and all of his other collected pieces from across the galaxy. After escaping, Yondu and Starlord sort out their differences and T'Challa takes his adopted space family to meet his family in Wakanda. For this auspicious episode, our Marvel media takes the form of another fanfiction - Flickering Lights by GaHoolianGirl. For our Worst Marvel Ships, Taserface and Abomination become Taserbomb and have a wonderful time burping and cleaning their apartment - at the same time. Finally, our roleplay, where Green Arrow and Hawkeye experience a little unfriendly rivalry, centered around elephant-hide paperclips, milkshake-flavored tacos, and Randy, the universally despised coworker. Movie Meltdown - Episode 452  This week we sit down with actor Jeff Kober to learn the secrets of not just life... but also to surviving in the entertainment industry. And while we decide which celebrities we plan to pretend to have a relationship with, we also bring up… La La Land, China Beach, Devon Sawa, Taserface, Tank Girl, dark endings, that was my target audience, The First Power, Debra Granik, Beauty Mark, James Remar threw a bottle at my frickin’ face, I followed a woman to California, Sully, everything happened for the reason… the way it was supposed to, Catherine Curtin, Billings, Montana, it’s all perspective, Chris Sullivan, I was the leader of a cult, Corey Haim, my first, last and only office job, Richard Ramirez, coming through the mask, perfectly awkward, Lori Petty, it was entirely based on being a dog and slightly damaged, The Walking Dead, not as therapy but as expression, Bruce Greenwood, the guy who had seen too much, Crazy Stupid Love, Auden Thornton, Hereditary, I really went into the darkness of that... and it took me a while to come back out of it, working with Clint Eastwood, a hot piece of man meat, no chemistry, if I kill enough of them… my fear will go away, he had his mom with him the whole time, really really deep feelings and Chuck either kicks my ass or kills me. “Where I came from... actors were different than people… so I didn’t think that I could… it never even occur to me.” For on Jeff, go to: https://jeff-kober.com/

THIS IS US made America sit up in their seats and pay attention to the man behind the immediate heart throb of Toby, Chris Sullivan.  He first gained attention for his portrayal of Tom Cleary on the Cinemax drama THE KNICK.   He played Benny Hammond in STRANGER THINGS and Taserface in GUARDIAN OF GALAXY VOL. 2.  It may appear that Chris had an easy ride to the dense career track he is on, but he has been putting in the work for over 17 years.  Graduation from Loyal Marymont University left him transformed from a Tennis pro turned actor and climbing the ladder to seek representation.   A self-proclaimed perfectionist and dedicated artist with no backup plan, listen in to see how he landed his agent several years after graduation, how he made $5000 stretch for almost a year living in Los Angeles, how Broadway prepared him for a role of a lifetime on the Cinemax show THE KNICK and how every part since The KNICK can all be traced back to that character. Chris is currently starring on the hit NBC show THIS IS US and is the lead singer of the band SULLY AND THE BENEVOLENT FOLK.

Three Hoarsemen

As epic terrors imperil the cosmos, Fred Kiesche, Jeff Patterson, and the newly cyberneticized John E. O. Stevens blaze across the heavens wielding wit, fortitude, and implausibly potent weapons of dubious origin to discuss the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Hoarsemen share their opinions on the movie (SPOILER ALERT), then turn their attentions to the comics which spawned it. Fred wrestles with the convoluted continuity of Marvel’s cosmic playground, while life-long readers John and Jeff endure the dual threats of retcon and reboot. Why was the first iteration of Jason Quill such a jackass? Will we ever see Mantis on the big screen? And can anyone defeat Taserface! As usual, the chaotic cosmic conversation concludes with the customary captivating chronicles of Culture Consumed. (Long-time Marvel fans, see what I did there?) The celestial vastness awaits! Quickly! Before the spacetime continuum is torn asunder! Host Fred Kiesche, John E.O. Stevens and Jeff Patterson.
