Welcome to Season FOUR of Encore! By 2007, Avril Lavigne was Canada's Undisputed Pop-Punk Queen. The 22- Year old Avril was two wildly successful albums deep into a career that seemingly knew no bounds. Her Debut, the influential ‘Let Go' had introduced her to the world at the young age of 17 - and would go a resounding SIX times platinum in America in less than a year.  Songs like ‘Complicated' and ‘Sk8er Boi' blew up charts worldwide, winning her Juno Awards, MMVAs and MTV VMAS, and granting her critical acclaim with a handful of prestigious GRAMMY Nominations to boot.  Her followup record - 2004's Under My Skin was a darker, more moody affair that top the Canadian and US Billboard Album charts, also go multi platinum and give us such hits as ‘My Happy Ending' and ‘Nobody's Home'.  After Touring the world with a gruelling 140 dates  throughout 2004 and 2005 Avril had entered her 20s and was ready to make some big changes to her music.  Clearly, Lavigne had done some great things… but now she was ready to make: The Best Damn Thing.  This is the story of Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' - with newly unearthed audio from Avril Lavigne!

As vocalist of Do-Ré-Mi and as a solo artist, Deborah Conway has received critical acclaim and mainstream success, but in this wide-ranging interview, the singer/songwriter reveals her music career hasn't always been smooth sailing. From the unexpected success of Do-Ré-Mi's debut single for Virgin Records, "Man Overboard" — a song without a chorus — to the detour into a solo dance project that mostly remains locked away in the record company vault to that time in the early 2000s when she and musical and life partner Willy Zygier played in fans' lounge rooms, Deborah's story is one with surprising twists and turns. For every up, like her ARIA Award win for debut solo album String Of Pearls (which included hits "It's Only The Beginning" and "Under My Skin"), there's the tale of Do-Ré-Mi being pressured to go more pop on second album The Happiest Place In Town (which featured top 30 single "Adultery"). It's all delivered with Deborah's renowned dry wit and sharp sense of humour.Bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/aussieTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @TurnAroundOnJoyInstagram: @chartbeatsau, @joyturnbeataroundEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com

Neglect and abandonment, physical, emotional, and verbal abuse, narcissistic parents and a host of malcontents to add flavor and color to the toxic mix that was my childhood.Yet light always shines through, right? I channeled my talents, hopes and ambition into writing about music and became a rock journalist as a teenager. I toured with Kiss on a press junket at 19 in Japan. That was just the beginning! Please CELEBRATE with me today! My book is now available and I'm dancing around my apartment with a bottle of bubbly. Get your rock ‘n' roll on!"Elise Krentzel's fast paced memoir, Under My Skin has earned #1 new release in these categories: Biographies of Rock Bands, Music Business, Rock, Composers & Musicians, and Jewish life. She shares how she took charge of the tumultuous 1970s by making a name for herself as a rock journalist when still a teenager. As a kid, she was encouraged by her parents to sing, play music, and write, but she wasn't allowed to be “herself.” Alienated, she hid her heart and learned to become a stranger in her own skin as the torment of early childhood taught her to mistrust everyone, especially herself. She's a multiglot: author, ghostwriter, mentor, public speaker, and communications entrepreneur who has lived in five countries for over twenty-five years. Starting in Japan from 1977 to 1984, she owned a talent and booking agency, introduced punk rock, was a DJ and, music journalist. Throughout our lives, all of us will be presented with opportunities that could be completely life-changing. While some people may find themselves in these situations more often than others, the people that repeatedly win are the ones that are prepared when an opportunity shows up in their lives. Being prepared means having the mindset to do what is required to move forward, and knowing that above all else, integrity and doing the thing matters. The people that win are the ones that want to do right by others, constantly provide value, and put honesty and integrity above monetary gain. Drew Plotkin is an example of what it looks like to do just that, and pay attention to the clues that success leaves behind. Drew Plotkin is an Emmy-nominated journalist, TV news producer, and Founder of Derm Dude, a balls, beard, and tattoo product line with natural and powerful ingredients. Drew found himself in a bizarre series of life-altering events leads that led to him working on mega-commercial brands with huge success and over 1 billion dollars in worldwide revenue. Drew has created and directed award-winning TV broadcast commercials that have included major celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Serena Williams, Cindy Crawford, Ellen Pompeo, Dwayne Wade, Kristin Davis, Jane Seymour, Paris Hilton, Drew Brees, and more. Drew's life story is a rollercoaster ride in which he developed his own techniques and tools for continuously navigating life's never-ending trails of valleys and peaks and learning to survive and thrive. In this episode, Drew shares the story of how he landed on death row twice, survived a dangerous mission to Ethiopia to save babies, and what he learned along the way. Album Review - Adfectus (Introtyl)

Welcome metalheads to another Great Metal Debate Review. Its Xander again, and today I will be talking about the new album by Introtyl called Adfectus. Those of you not familiar, Introtyl is an all female brutal death metal band from Mexico City, Mexico. Their debut album titled Creation of Insanity came out in 2018. Now, the kick ass metal maidens are back with a sick new record which was released on April 29th. "Abyss" begins with about 5 seconds worth of ominous sounding whispering before dive bombing straight into a headbang inducing chug riff. On guitars we have a lady who seems to have 3 different names according to The Metal-Archives. For the sake of me not butchering her full name, I'll just refer to her as her nickname Sara. Her work on the entirety of this record might be somewhat formulaic for the particular playing style yet it's simple and effective. I'm going to go ahead and get my slight critiques out of the way before giving this album it's well deserved praise. Many metalheads out there often times complain about the bass not being audible enough. Be careful what you wish for because you just might get an overabundance of it. Its not really the fault of bassist Rose Contreras, its more the simple mistake of whoever the studio engineer is for turning the bass up too high. It's somewhat overpowering but at the same time not so much that it washes out the guitars, drums or vocals. The song "Under My Skin" gives us an earworm catchy guitar riff that will get stuck in your head for sure. If you're not slowly nodding your head to the slow grinding guitar riff, then you're probably not even a real metalhead. The next song titled "Fear" picks up a little in speed as the drums are noticeably faster. Annie Ramirez shows off her skills on the entire drum kit. Sure, she can play the double bass kicks and snare very quickly but she isn't exclusive to those like most other brutal death drummers. However, Annie does seem to shy away from her cymbals though. She does use them occasionally but they're not very audible in the sound mixing when they are heard. Other than that, she has more than displayed her percussion capabilities. "Inner War" was the first single that the band put out for this new album but the music video was uploaded over a year ago. Maybe it was originally just a single but then decided to put it on the next full-length. When you first start this song, it feels like you're just immediately thrown into the middle of the song. There is no soft build-up or calm beginning. It's a relentless track front to back! The next song is called "Anger". It begins with a steady drum beat before picking up the pace and making all who listen to it alone mosh with the wind. I haven't even mentioned vocalist Kary Ramos yet. She deserves an award for her vocals that definitely rival those of Mallika from the band Abnormality. Something about the sound mix makes the drums seem louder on the song called "The Flame" and it's very clear from the start. The opening snare drum roll really stands out because of it but it continues throughout the rest of the song. "Redemption" is the next song and the sound mixing seems to return to normal. At the very end of the song you hear someone taking one deep breath followed by breathing normally to conclude the track. But the album has just one more song up it's sleeve and its called "Zombiefied". "Zombiefied" is the finally and its also the one and only track where you can actually hear Kary Ramos pronounce a word clearly. Any guess as to which word that is? Haha. The song isn't repetitious or anything but you can clearly hear her say the word "Zombiefied" a couple times from the middle to the end of the song. For me, the biggest issue with this album was definitely the sound mixing. Had it been tweeked a little more I would rate the album higher. I'm gonna have to give it a 7.5 out of 10. Be sure to support these ladies by purchasing their music on bandcamp.

Episode 48 of The Blank Canvas Podcast with Alex Russell Alex Russell is one of those young actors who’s been quietly, or not so quietly racked up a dozen movie credits; both in Australia and the US. After starring in the acclaimed indie feature Wasted on the Young, he played the lead role in the US science fiction thriller Chronicle, grossing over $126 million. Then starred in re-make of Brian De Palma’s horror classic, Carrie alongside Julianne Moore & Chloe Grace Moretz, Andrew Niccol’s movie The Host, Cut Snake with director Tony Ayres, a role in Angelina Jolie's Academy Award nominated epic Unbroken, Greg McLean’s film Jungle opposite Daniel Radcliffe, Only The Brave with Josh Brolin, Goldstone, with Jacki Weaver. In television, Alex is into the 5th season of global hit drama SWAT, starring as the much loved Jim Street. This is all great but what impressed me most and prompted me to want to have a yak with Alex, is that rather than just cruising along as a successful working actor, he’s pro-actively producing his own projects. His latest micro-budget indie movie UNDER MY SKIN is punching well above it’s weight. Written and Directed by Alex’s regular collaborator Aussie David O’Donnell, and produced by Alex and Raynen O’Keefe. The story follows Denny, a free spirit and artist who falls for Ryan, a strait-laced lawyer, played by Alex. When Denny questions her gender their love is tested. It’s a powerful film and just won the Alternative Spirit Award at the prestigious Rhode Island International Film Festival and is currently trending on Aussie streaming platform in STAN.
