“Is America a divinely ordained promised land for European Christians, or is America a pluralistic democracy where all stand on equal footing before the law?” Dr. Robert P. Jones, president and founder of PRRI, grapples with this central question in his new book, The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and the Path to a Shared American Future. As Dr. Jones says, “At its heart, this book sets out to expose the deep, hidden roots of America's current identity crisis.” This landmark work examines the genocide and removal of Native Americans and White racial violence against African Americans that occurred in three distinct regions of our country: Tulsa, OK; the Mississippi Delta; and Duluth, MN. Tragically, these accounts are not unique to these areas. Similar atrocities have occurred in virtually all 50 states. And yet, this is a story of hope. The heart of the project is that “Authentic healing flows from, and true repentance is built on, the twin pillars of truth-telling and repair.” Dr. Robert P. Jones is the president and founder of Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI). Beginning with contemporary efforts to reckon with the legacy of white supremacy in America, Jones returns to the fateful year when a little-known church doctrine emerged that shaped the way five centuries of European Christians would understand the “discovered” world and the people who populated it. Along the way, he shows us the connections between Emmett Till and the Spanish conquistador Hernando De Soto in the Mississippi Delta, between the lynching of three Black circus workers in Duluth and the mass execution of thirty-eight Dakota men in Mankato, and between the murder of 300 African Americans during the burning of Black Wall Street in Tulsa and the Trail of Tears. From this vantage point, Jones shows how the enslavement of Africans was not America's original sin but, rather, the continuation of acts of genocide and dispossession flowing from the first European contact with Native Americans. These deeds were justified by people who embraced the 15th century Doctrine of Discovery: the belief that God had designated all territory not inhabited or controlled by Christians as their new promised land. This reframing of American origins explains how the founders of the United States could build the philosophical framework for a democratic society on a foundation of mass racial violence—and why this paradox survives today in the form of white Christian nationalism. Through stories of people navigating these contradictions in three communities, Jones illuminates the possibility of a new American future in which we finally fulfill the promise of a pluralistic democracy. One of the most important lessons I have learned from Meta Commerse is the importance of white people telling their own race story. A significant part of the problem with our ability as white people to fulfill that task is due to the truth that because we are so conditioned by our white-dominated culture, we both don't tend to think about ourselves as having a race story and don't know how to go about telling our own race story. Gentle and wise guides like Meta have been helping us white folks learn to do that for over 25 years, but the burden needs to shift. We as white people need to take more responsibility in recognizing that we all and each have a race story, in beginning to tell our own race story, and in being more active in creating change away from the white-dominated culture. Robert P. Jones has given us a good model in his two books, The End of White Christian America, and White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity,. These books include Robert's own story, but focus more on the cultural level. They do not enable us as individuals know how to tell our own race story. My guest for this episode has provide us with such a resource. Dr. Benjamin Boswell has developed a course that can be used in multiple contexts and by a variety of people. Ben is here to tell us is own race story and then to give us an understanding of his course, why he developed it, and how we can have access to it. Rev. Dr. Benjamin Boswell (he/him) serves at the intersection of strategic leadership, spiritual formation, and social justice. In his professional capacity, Dr. Boswell is a preacher, pastor, author, civil rights leader, and sought after public speaker. Dr. Boswell is also a former infantry officer in the U.S. Army National Guard, a graduate of Marion Military Institute (AA), Campbell University (BA), Duke Divinity School (MDIV), and Saint Paul's School of Theology (DMIN) where his doctoral thesis was “Identifying Whiteness: Discerning Race through Spiritual Practice in the White Dominant Church.” Dr. Boswell was born in Lynchburg, VA, grew up in Bethlehem, PA, and graduated from high school in Kannapolis, NC. Before joining the staff at MPBC, Dr. Boswell served as Senior Pastor at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church in Cary, NC. Prior to his time in Cary, Dr. Boswell was Pastor at Commonwealth Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA, and an Adjunct Professor of Political Theology and Ethics at the John Leland Center for Theological Studies. He was also the lone clergy member of the NC Commission of Inquiry on Torture; a citizen group that worked to expose North Carolina's participation in the CIA's post-9/11 torture program. Dr. Boswell has received numerous awards and honors for his work as a pastor and civil rights leader. In 2021 he was was awarded the prestigious Martin Luther King Jr. Medallion, which is the city's highest honor given to a person who promotes racial equality, social justice, and community service. In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Dr. Boswell facilitates spiritual formation anti-racism trainings called, “What Does It Mean to Be White?” and he is the author of the forthcoming book Confronting Whiteness to be published by Upper Room in July of 2022. You can learn more about and have access Ben's course from the two websites: brownicity.com, and myerspartbaptist.org. With her work with AAF, Winstead has taken her satirical brilliance one step further, combining it with her passion for reproductive rights to expose anti choice hypocrisy and inspiring a whole new model of activism. In an interview with NPR, Winstead talked about growing up without seeing enough women comedians on television. “I didn't see any women on television doing stand up unless they were older women like Totie Fields or Joan Rivers, and so I didn't see anyone like me. It was either men in suits talking about what men in suits talk about, or women, if they were older, talking about how much their husbands disappointed them and sort of the level that their boobs had sunk to on their body. That was a very popular thing to talk about for a lot of comedians back in the day. And so it wasn't until I was watching George Carlin one night with a girlfriend of mine and she said why don't you try that? And I said I don't know. Do you think I could? And she said why not?” Winstead grew up in Minneapolis in a conservative Catholic family, the youngest of five children. She currently lives in Brooklyn NY, and continues to tour the country doing stand up in support of abortion rights. Produced by KSQD 90.7FM "The End of White Christian America with Robert P. Jones" Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 5:00pm (PT) For most of the country's history, white Christian America – a cultural and political identity built primarily by white Protestant Christians – set the tone for our national policy and shaped American ideals. But in recent decades this has changed. Drawing on findings from one of the largest troves of survey data on contemporary politics and religion, Robert Jones shows how today's most heated political controversies can be fully understood only in the context of the anxieties that white Christians feel as the racial, religious, and cultural landscape has changed around them. Looking ahead, Jones forecasts the way that white Christians might adjust to their new reality – and the consequences for the country if they don't. Interview Guest: Robert P. Jones is the CEO and founder of Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and the author of White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity, which won the 2021 American Book Award. Data from the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) has found that white Christians—including mainline Protestants, Catholics, and evangelicals—are the most racist religious group in America, Robert P. Jones, the CEO of PRRI, says this isn't a bug within white American Christianity, but a feature. He discusses his new book “White Too Long” about the lingering legacy of white supremacy in the church. Also this week, apologist Josh McDowell joins those saying CRT is the greatest threat facing the church, but does his argument contradict itself? Why America is Becoming Less Christian and More Compassionate In this episode, Rev Karla discusses a few reasons why some people have chosen to step away from organized religion. The latest data shows that a record-low number of Americans identify themselves with any religion at all. People are leaving church in order to separate themselves from the radical Christians. We are not "nondenominational," which is very different from being non-religious. We are the Nones– we don't identify with a religion, but that doesn't mean we aren't spiritually connected to the Divine. To read more on this topic from Rev Karla, be sure to check out her blog post. Brad speaks with Dr. Sarah Riccardi-Swartz, Postdoctoral Fellow at the Recovering Truth Project (Arizona State University) about her recent article, "The Hybridity of Rural Fascism." She discusses the Evangelical converts to Orthodoxy in rural Appalachia, at least one of which self-identifies as a fascist. She explains how the group sees Trump as too conservative, and instead looks to Putin as the model leader for this--and any--country. As her and Brad explore, the community represents the extreme end of Christian patriarchy, authoritarianism, and trad-values. While it would be easy to label it as a fringe movement, Dr. Riccardi-Swartz reminds us just how prevalent these values are in contemporary White Christian America.

The Lost Cause Before and during the Civil War, Southern Baptist leaders argued that slavery was just and the slaveholding South represented the pinicle of human civilization. After the South lost, they began to espouse the idea of the Lost Cause—that the war on Earth may be lost, but God would ultimately redeem the South with the Second Coming. This idea became widespread throughout the South, and can still be seen today in Confederate Monuments like the one in Richmond, VA which reads “God Will Vindicate’ in Latin, a direct reference to the idea of the Lost Cause, and the salvation awaiting Southerners. White Churches Perpetuate White Supremacy The Southern Baptist Church was founded on white supremacist principles and helped maintain a quasi-caste system where white Christians benefited. Other denominations like Protestant and Catholic display similar blind spots to—and even affinities for—white supremacy. Regular churchgoers are no less racist than the average American, and church-going evangelicals hold more racist attitudes than the average. Under the Doctrine of Discovery, the Catholic Church encouraged Catholic explorers to claim the lands of non-white, non-Christians, and thus has held up white supremacy for hundreds of years. White Christian America’s Warped Morality White supremacy has warped and stunted the morality of white Christian Americans. After the Civil War, Southern Baptists argued civilization was in decline that could only be rectified by Jesus’s Second Coming. This belief focused on inner piety while waiting for Jesus to reappear – being “good Christians” – and overlooked the injustices caused by white supremacy in society. This inward looking theology created a moral framework that sought reconciliation without the work of repairing the damage and/or achieving justice. Find out more: Robert P. In this episode, Rev Karla takes us on a trip through the history of how the dangerous intersection of religion and politics has continuously harmed our fair democracy, up to the point of the events on January 6, 2021. We’ve seen these injustices since the AIDS Crisis and the Reagan Administration and Jim Crow Laws and more. What do we do now? How do we hold those in power, those around us, and ourselves accountable? The end of White Christian America is coming and as America continues to become less religious and we continue to elect people that represent our diverse population, what change can we expect, and fight for, in the coming years? You can read more on this topic from Rev Karla in her blog post and the 6 part TikTok series on Radical Christianity. Robert P. Jones is the CEO and Founder of PRRI and a leading scholar and commentator on religion, culture, and politics. He is the author of the acclaimed book The End of White Christian America. His new book is White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity. Jones reflects on the relationship between racism and white supremacy in White Christianity and the Age of Trump. Jones also explains how the lie that Christianity is somehow “race neutral” and “colorblind” does the work of right-wing politics and of sustaining social inequality along the color line in the United States and around the world. He also shares new data on authoritarianism and White Christian identity politics. Chauncey DeVega reflects on the emotional state of the American people in these weeks prior to Election Day 2020 and the cost of being a hope warrior and the need for both inspiration as well as healthy pessimism (and realism) about the tough fight ahead. In the age of Trump's pandemic, Chauncey DeVega returns to the movies (again) and shares his thoughts on Yellow Rose, The Last Shift, and The War with Grandpa. And Chauncey defends the honor of rats in the face of the horrible slur that “Republicans are escaping Donald Trump like rats fleeing a sinking ship”. As the 2020 presidential election nears, Lauren R. Kerby and Jeff Sharlet discussed the politics of white evangelicals in the U.S. today. Kerby's book, Saving History: How White Evangelicals Tour the Nation's Capital and Redeem a Christian America, offers a starting point for this important conversation about how race, nationalism, and Christianity become entangled for many white evangelicals through what they learn from their leaders about American history. Their political commitments are baffling to many observers, but this conversation will explore how white evangelicals’ relationship to the nation offers a key to understanding their continued allegiance to Donald Trump. Lauren R. Kerby is a lecturer on religious studies at Harvard Divinity School and the education specialist for the Religious Literacy Project. She earned her PhD from Boston University. She is the author of Saving History: How White Evangelicals Tour the Nation's Capital and Redeem a Christian America (University of North Carolina Press, 2020). Jeff Sharlet is the Frederick Sessions Beebe '35 Professor in the Art of Writing at Dartmouth College. He is the author or editor of seven books including the national bestseller The Family, recently adapted into a Netflix documentary series of the same name, and This Brilliant Darkness. Sharlet is an editor at large for VQR and a contributor to publications including Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, and GQ, for which his reporting on anti-LGBTQ+ crusades in Russia won the National Magazine Award. If you spend any significant time reading or listening to scholars of religion, looking at polling of religious groups, or anything like that, then you have probably heard the term Spiritual But Not Religious thrown out there. This will usually come with a sentence or two of description, something like, people who do not identify with any particular religion, or people who are neither religious nor atheist. But I wanted to go further and better understand this group, not least because many of this show’s listeners find themselves in this category. Another fact often included when the Spiritual but not Religious are mentioned is that they are the fastest growing religious group in America; yet another reason to take a longer peek under the hood. I’m joined by returning guest Terry Shoemaker, who is a researcher and professor of religious studies at Arizona State University. About a year ago he was on the show talking about what he calls culture war Christianity, and there’s a link to that episode in the show notes today if you didn't catch it. In addition to discussing the SBNR, we also talk about the possible future effects of both the pandemic and evangelical support for Trump on American religion. Tom's next guest today is the founder and CEO of the Public Religion Research Institute, Robert P. Jones. In 2016, Dr. Jones published a critically acclaimed book called The End of White Christian America. He’s followed that up with a timely and thoughtful peroration on racism in American Christianity. From splits in American Protestantism over slavery, to the unshakable support of Evangelicals for Donald Trump, Jones traces how racial intolerance has been a constant in American Christianity for generations. The book is called White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity. On Wednesday, September 2 at 4pm, Robert Jones will be speaking about the book in an on-line event sponsored by the Institute for Islamic, Christian and Jewish Studies. For more information on the event, click here. Dr. Robert Jones joins us now, on Zoom…
White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity by Robert P. Jones PRRI.org Drawing on history, public opinion surveys, and personal experience, Robert P. Jones delivers a provocative examination of the unholy relationship between American Christianity and white supremacy, and issues an urgent call for white Christians to reckon with this legacy for the sake of themselves and the nation. As the nation grapples with demographic changes and the legacy of racism in America, Christianity’s role as a cornerstone of white supremacy has been largely overlooked. But white Christians—from evangelicals in the South to mainline Protestants in the Midwest and Catholics in the Northeast—have not just been complacent or complicit; rather, as the dominant cultural power, they have constructed and sustained a project of protecting white supremacy and opposing black equality that has framed the entire American story. With his family’s 1815 Bible in one hand and contemporary public opinion surveys by Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) in the other, Robert P. Jones delivers a groundbreaking analysis of the repressed history of the symbiotic relationship between Christianity and white supremacy. White Too Long demonstrates how deeply racist attitudes have become embedded in the DNA of white Christian identity over time and calls for an honest reckoning with a complicated, painful, and even shameful past. Jones challenges white Christians to acknowledge that public apologies are not enough—accepting responsibility for the past requires work toward repair in the present. White Too Long is not an appeal to altruism. Drawing on lessons gleaned from case studies of communities beginning to face these challenges, Jones argues that contemporary white Christians must confront these unsettling truths because this is the only way to salvage the integrity of their faith and their own identities. More broadly, it is no exaggeration to say that not just the future of white Christianity but the outcome of the American experiment is at stake. Robert P. Jones is the CEO and Founder of PRRI and a leading scholar and commentator on religion, culture, and politics. He is the author of “White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity,” and “The End of White Christian America,” which won the 2019 Grawemeyer Award in Religion. Jones writes regularly on politics, culture, and religion for The Atlantic online, NBC Think, and other outlets. He is frequently featured in major national media, such as CNN, MSNBC, NPR, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and others. Jones serves on the national program committee for the American Academy of Religion and is a past member of the editorial boards for the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, and Politics and Religion, a journal of the American Political Science Association. He holds a Ph.D. in religion from Emory University, an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a B.S. in computing science and mathematics from Mississippi College. Jones was selected by Emory University’s Graduate Division of Religion as Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 2013, and by Mississippi College’s Mathematics Department as Alumnus of the Year in 2016.
Doug Pagitt sits down with Robert P. Jones to talk about his new book, “White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity.” Jones is the CEO and Founder of PRRI (Public Religion Research Institute) and a leading scholar and commentator on religion, culture and politics. He also writes a column for The Atlantic online on politics and culture and is frequently featured in major national media such as MSNBC, CNN, NPR, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and others.
Very happy to have Joshua Hatton as my guest. Joshua is the co-owner of Single Cask Nation, an Independent Bottler of fine spirits; a member of the Keepers of the Quaich; and.... a Jew! So that gives us an opportunity to talk about what that means in White Christian America: how anti-Semitism got its start (believe it or not, it started with the Semites) and why it still persists as the hidden evil that undermines cultures worldwide . And also, he picks out a hidden beauty from my shelf...its Scotch, but not the kind you're thinking of. Leave it to him...
We're bringing you important conversations on white supremacy and American Christianity in this episode. First, we'll play the June 26 discussion between researcher Robert P. Jones of PRRI and journalist Adelle Banks from Religion News Service (starting at 2:14). Jones is the author of the forthcoming White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity, and he talks with Banks about the church's current “moment of reckoning” across denominational lines, particularly as white churches have been either blind to their part in systemic racism or have ignored it. This podcast also features Amanda's call to action from the June 26 event, including the dangers of Christian nationalism (25:39). We're also bringing you part of a follow-up conversation with BJC's Charles Watson Jr. and Dr. Alphonso Saville of Georgetown University (37:48), where they discuss a wide range of issues, including how arguments can inform how we proceed and the importance of understanding history. About seven in 10 American seniors are white Christians. Among young adults, fewer than three in 10 are. During the span of the Obama administration, America went from a majority white Christian nation to one where white Christians are a minority. That’s an earthquake, and we’re living in the aftershocks. This is a story that Robert Jones, the head of the Public Religion Research Institute, tells in his book The End of White Christian America. Much of Donald Trump’s support is driven by a sense of religious loss, not just racial or national loss. Many of the debates playing out on the American right — particularly the Sohrab Ahmari-David French fight — reflect the belief that these are end times for a certain strain of American Christians, unless emergency measures are undertaken. This is not, to put it lightly, a perspective that’s treated sympathetically on the left. What could carry more privilege than being a white Christian? But that’s why, if you want to understand American politics right now, it’s important to try to see the other side of this one. I’m going to be exploring this more on the show in the weeks to come, but I wanted to start with Jones, who knows the data here better than anyone. This is part of the deep context of American politics right now. Seeing it clearly makes a lot of our fights more legible. Diane asks Robert P. Jones, author of "The End of White Christian America."
Democrats won with women by 19 points in the 2018 midterm elections. Efforts to recruit new women candidates to the Republican Party have faltered and while a record number of women will be serving in the next Congress come January, most of them are Democrats. There will actually be fewer Republican women on the Hill in 2019 than there were this year. So does the GOP have a gender problem and what might that mean leading up to the 2020 presidential election? This week on Politics with Amy Walter from The Takeaway, we'll examine the growing divide among Republican leadership and the electorate and we visit Kansas, where a handful of Republican women in the statehouse have defected from the GOP. Guests: Kansas State Senator Barbara Bollier and Representative Stephanie Clayton represent suburban districts where a majority of voters went for Hillary Clinton in 2016. Kim Alfano is a Republican strategist and CEO of Alfano Communications. Robert P. Jones is the CEO of the public religion research institute and the author the End of White Christian America.

My guest today is Robert P. Jones. He's the CEO of the Public Religion Research Institute, and the author of several books, including "The End of White Christian America." The American religious landscape is undergoing a dramatic transformation. White Christians, once the dominant religious group in the U.S., now account for fewer than half of all adults living in the country. Today, fewer than half of all states are majority white Christian. As recently as 2007, 39 states had majority white Christian populations. These are two of the major findingsfrom PRRI’s 2016 American Values Atlas, the single largest survey of American religious and denominational identity ever conducted. This landmark report is based on a sample of more than 101,000 Americans from all 50 states and includes detailed information about their religious affiliation, denominational ties, political affiliation, and other important demographic attributes. Special Guest: Robert P. Jones.
Please join us Sunday as we discuss White Christian America and their role in white supremacy. Does your race and nationalism come before your religious identity? Were you upset when the Southern Baptists decided to “decry every form of racism, including alt-right white supremacy, as antithetical to the Gospel of Jesus Christ?” How many of your friends, family, and colleagues are participating in these white supremacists rallies? Do you agree with their decision to participate? So you challenge their ideology? Are you exercising your faith while silently ignoring the injustices that are being committed in this country? Jesus will fix it, right? Next lifetime? Are you willing to stand by and allow others to be persecuted?
Dear White Christian America: Let's be honest. I have some questions for you. Why are you so silent? You're normally vocal about everything! Are you feeling convicted or conflicted or ashamed?Do you facilitate constructive and uplifting dialogues about racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.? Why or why not? Or do you suppress these much needed discussions? Are you a white supremacist?Would Jesus or God support white supremacy? What's your sermon going to be tomorrow?Would Jesus or God approve of your choices?Would Jesus or God endorse Donald Trump?Could you live in a theocracy? I mean a REAL theocracy. If you aren't having these conversations or asking these questions (and many, many more...), you are part of the problem.
My guest today is Robert P. Jones. He's the CEO of the Public Religion Research Institute, and the author of several books, including "The End of White Christian America." Please join us as we start our series about Christian America. We plan on tackling a number of subjects and breaking down how the roots of American Christianity have been complicit with the toxic environment that we endure today. Not only will I talk about the perpetual racism that is hidden under the shield of Christianity, but how this racism created the religious right and ushered Donald Trump into the White House. We will also discuss the unholy alliance between white nationalists and black nationalists. Additionally, we will discuss how some word of faith pastors (black and white) endorsed and worked feverishly to elect Donald Trump. Additionally, I have questions for the white pastors who pastor black congregations that voted and supported Trump. We will also discuss the difference between white and black Christian identities. And much more...

Robert P. Jones, Ph.D., CEO of PRRI (Public Religion Research Institute)joins us to take a closer look at polling results of white evangelicals and the statistics that show a shift in the Christian culture in America.
Funny how you wanted to bring us to heel and bury our movement; just like you buried movements in the past. Well little tink tink, it seems as though the tables have turned Democrats. We have brought you to heel and buried your aspirations to kill our movement., Those black, brown, red, yellow, and poor whites votes matter after all...huh? I want you to explain to us very slowly how you aren't going to address issues that plague our communities. Can you expound on how you are going to ignore our policy demands? Tell us more about the false hope and refuse to change that you sold to us. Y'all, we are waiting for you to explain why your cousins im Bob and Ellie Mae voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump. I defecate your post racial narrative and violently regurgitate your colorlind tropes. Christianity & the Bible have been used to perpetuate and justify slavery, systemic/institutional racism, Raw (New) Deal, Jim Crow, segregation, mob action against communities of color, poverty, wealth inequality, and more. The system is NOT and never was broken, it was built this way. We need to accept this fact of life. White American Christians tend to cling to their guns and bibles; especially, in times of trouble and uncertainty. The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., once said "it is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America is eleven o'clock on Sunday morning. The religious right was formed to protect segregation. White nationalists will tell you that their organizations are Christian based. The BPP and BLM are labeled hate groups and are being attacked from every direction. However, the klan is still in existence and allowed to continue with their campaign of terror. White Christians are behaving more white than Christian. How does that work?
Please join us as we explore racism American style. No one does racism the way that America does racism. Tune in, give us a call, send us a note to share YOUR story or the story of someone you know. Please join us Sunday 1PM CST as we examine what fuels White Christian Americans. The RNC offers angry, white Americans hope for a yesteryear that they have romanticized and a return to the Jim Crow society that they have longed for. The messiah, that they have prayed for, has manifested. They now have their very own Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson in whiteface to speak 'truth' to power. Their newly arisen pied piper is leading a ticker tape parade to the White House to make 'America Great Again.' He has delivered his sermon on the mount at Gettysburg. He, too, has a contract (covenant) that he wants America to make with him. He, too, has a New Deal for 'the blacks.' He, too, has jobs for our immigrants (legal or otherwise)...to build the wall he intends to toss them over. He, too, has a plan to (de)stabilize our economy. He, too, has a plan to vilify and demonize those he has labeled as degenerates and subversives. He, too, wants to rid our country of political correctness. They, too, shall overcome.
Please join us Sunday as we discuss White Christian America and their refusal to put an end to racism in America. This is the first installment on a series specifically talking about White Christian America's willful ignorance, tacit & overt agreement with racism, being complicit with the systemic racism perpetuated by the powers that be, and misguided anger. It's not you...it's me. Well...it really is you, but I was trying to spare your feelings. I have come to the realization that we have to part ways. If this is your way of showing love, please hate me. Not really sure how much more I can take. I tried, but failed miserably trying to ind some common ground. The only solution that will work is or me to walk away. Trying to convince you that people of color in America are suffering because you refuse to acknowledge and dismantle white supremacy is an exercise in futility. Until you can take responsibility and acknowledge your role in perpetually oppressing people of color, we have nothing else to discuss. I am tired of running in circles and getting nowhere.

One of the most talked-about books this summer has the provocative title, “The End of White Christian America.” The author is a person well-known to the faith community in Washington, Robert P. Jones of the Public Religion Research Institute. Today we will have a rich, fast-paced conversation with one of the leading researchers of today’s religious landscape. We will talk about the book, the author’s findings, their importance to the future of Christianity in America, and what it all means in the context of today’s contentious political landscape. On the inside leaf of the cover, Robert Jones’s book, “The End of White Christian America,” asserts that “America is no longer a majority white Christian nation.” In fact, he states that 1993 was the last year when white Protestants constituted a majority of the population. Whether you believe this is a positive or negative development in American history, Jones asserts that this represents a massive shift that has some bearing upon the current political climate. As a serious researcher who grew up in the South, Jones has a reputation for always speaking the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable, and having the data to back up his assertions. This interview was one of the most stimulating and thought-provoking conversations I’ve had yet in this podcast.
