Each episode superhero authors, T.L. Heinrich and Jeremy Flagg rate comics and novels for the Pull List and present shows and movies for listeners to Geek Out over. For this episode’s Deep Dive, they are delving into the R rated cartoon by Robert Kirkland, Invincible. Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.com  https://www.superhero-fiction.com   THE PULL LIST Jeremy - Thanks Marvel App for being a royal piece of shit. Now that I can’t load comics, I had to go old school. Why do I keep giving them money? I decided to reread Ultimate X-Men to pass the time. This is an outstanding series that builds on the mythos of X-Men. (One of the writers is Millar, we’ll come back to that name.) It twists the popular stories and makes them accessible to a new audience. The “realistic” view of X-Men won me over. I can’t give it a high enough rank. 5 out of 5 Capes.   Trish - Bootleg Springs Series by Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley-An incredibly fun and satisfying contemporary romance series, this was one of the best small town romances I’ve ever read. Each book is essentially a stand alone but there’s also an overarching mystery that is resolved spectacularly at the end of the series. 5 out of 5 capes If you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews.   GEEK OUTS Trish - Mitchell’s vs. The Machines-An incredibly fun family movie that explores relationships, technology and that good old fashioned torture: The family road trip. I laughed until my stomach hurt (weaponized, evil Furbies? Yes please!) It’s on Netflix, watch it! Jeremy - Jupiter’s Legacy by Mark Millar. This Netflix series is an attempt to steal back the superhero audience lost by Marvel removing their Defender titles. Because the heroes are truly super, it is lacking in the special effects budget, but it’s holding its own. The story is nothing new, a super team questioning their mission, but it’s taking a practical approach to the plight of heroes and it will be interesting to see if Netflix picks it up for a second season. It might not be at the top of my watch list, but I’d continue should there be more series.  Deep Dive -  Invincible Trish - Thanks to Black Nerd Comedy for the recaps that I needed. This is brutal and incredible story telling that is not for the faint of heart. While it did have grim and gruesome moments, it never had the grim dark feel of the Snyder-verse (thank god) Jeremy -  Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories   Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things Superhero iTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube   Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social Media Superhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Join us On Discord   Trish Heinrich – Facebook | Instagram Jeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

For this episode’s Deep Dive, they’re delving into the latest Marvel television the Falcon and Winter Soldier to discuss the good, the bad, and the missed opportunities. Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.com  https://www.superhero-fiction.com THE PULL LIST   Jeremy - The Watchmen by Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons One of the most iconic graphic novels ever made, The Watchmen remains undecided on if it is genius or garbage. After having a few years between readings I returned and found myself extremely captivated by its less than idealistic heroes. It demonstrates that even the best meaning people are tempted to darkness and we are ultimately left asking, "In the dawning of the superhero, who watches the Watchmen?" It's a behemoth of a book, but despite the slow pace, I give it a 5 out of 5 Capes. Warning: There is a rape scene that is brutally candid and pulls no punches making it more disturbing than many.   Trish - Forever Never by Lucy Score Though not a superhero novel or even  a genre novel, this book is hands down one of the steamiest, most awesome romance novels I’ve ever read. It’s safe to say that Lucy Score is easily one of the best contemporary romance authors out there today. I learned A LOT about writing romance in general just from reading her books. Five out of Five capes.   If you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews.   GEEK OUTS Trish - To celebrate the premier of season six of DC Legends, I’m rewatching the show starting from the very first episode, or at least I was until my husband suggested we skip to the last episode of season one. It’s been really fun to watch these characters at the beginning of their journey knowing where they will end up. Although I do miss the weird and wonderful craziness of the later seasons. Jeremy - Shadow in the Cloud starring Chloe Grace Moretz Filmed prior to lockdown, this movie not only embodies the horrors of flying at 20,000 feet, but what can be done with a compelling storyline and a minimalist set. While some of the action (and wow, questionable motivation) is just flat out laughable, Moretz delivers an emotional performance that manages to rely almost entirely on her own abilities. Definitely something to check out if you’re not worried about some questionable moments in your period piece action film.   Deep Dive -  Falcon & Winter Soldier Trish - I thought that overall it was a good show. The chemistry between Bucky and Sam was wonderful and complex. I loved how they showed Bucky’s struggle with rebuilding his life and making amends. And how Sam was trying to wrap his head around what it meant to be Captain America while also trying to catch up to life after coming back from the blip. I didn’t like the treatment of Sharon Carter or US Agent’s character. Carter was flat, one dimensional and dull. I feel that what they did was a betrayal of who the character was in the comics and who she was set up in the films to be. She didn’t even get to tell us her emotions or feelings because everyone else around her did that. US Agent had potential but his character arc was muddled and without clear direction. The character of Isaiah Bradley was a heartbreaking, amazing stand out played to beautiful perfection by Carl Lumbly. He has two of the best, most gut wrenching scenes in the entire show and brings up the ugly things white Americans don’t want to be cognizant of in our own history. It was the best performance of the show. Jeremy - Is the U.S. Agent single? Cause, I have me a new man crush. Overall I was a huge fan of this because of the underlying social commentary and the logistics approach to what happened after the events of End Game. Sam and Bucky are the married couple we all crave and as their relationship blooms, you almost wonder if they’re secretly dating off screen. But there are some pacing issues that radically undermine the show. The plight of the original black Captain America is such an impactful moment mixed with heartache and fury, it is cut short by a tidy resolution. The same can be said for the rise and fall of U.S. Agent and Sharon Carter. It feels like a few episodes were knocked off for no real reason and it left a mixed taste in my mouth. I feel the writing (which got ham stringed after a near perfect WandaVision) is rushed and inconsistent which seems to run counter to much of Marvel’s master plan. But with that being said, it’s a great watch and I’d gladly sit through the whole season again. But seriously, is U.S. Agent single... Each episode superhero authors, T.L. Heinrich and Jeremy Flagg rate comics and novels for the Pull List and present shows and movies for listeners to Geek Out over. For this episode’s Deep Dive,  they’re delving into the powers behind the heroes, what makes for a good/bad/useless superhero ability.   Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.com  https://www.superhero-fiction.com THE PULL LIST Jeremy - Age of Night - By Amanda Kahl Thanks to the Marvel App never seeming to work, I’ve decided to get my comic fix from one of my favorite indie creators. This has been an ongoing project since she was a student at Savannah College of Art & Design and I really like it for the fact it breaks out of the superhero genre. This European inspired story follows a ragtag group of travelers including a white mage, brawlers, thiefs, and a cute guy transformed into a cat. The dialogue at the start has a few clunky moments, but it finds its footing quickly. Best of all, if you’re a fan of webcomics, the story is available online for free at ageofnight.com. 4 out of 5 Capes.   Trish - The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore- not just about the history of this iconic hero, Jill dives into the significance of her origins and legacy in regard to feminism, and society at large. This book is a true deep dive into this character. 5 out of 5 Capes. If you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews.   GEEK OUTS Trish - Valley Girl (2020)-  A spunky and fun remake of the 1983 film, this musical version has it all! Teen angst, a three song mashup at a Jazzercise studio and ALL the 80’s teen romance tropes you ever wanted. It’s fun. It’s light. Watch it and don’t take it too seriously. Jeremy - Titans Season 2 - The first season follows Raven’s emerging powers as the primary storyline, and ends at a horrible spot for a TV series. Unfortunately the story ends abruptly in season 2, but where the story goes from there is not only compelling, but a good dose of heroes in front and behind the scenes. Hefty amount of angst, but it felt appropriate for their situation. Come for Nightwing, stay for Wonder Girl swearing. I’d recommend and season three is set up to be even better! Deep Dive -  Super Good, Super Bad, Super Useless General Pointers discussed in this podcast: Powers must somehow relate to the character, either by complimenting their personality or being in opposition to it Limitations are a must, none of this magically become stronger or defying the odds at the last second Highlight the ramifications of their abilities and what it means for their reality beyond the superhero world Mundane powers (even the lamest) can be made useful with creative problem solving - don’t rely on easy expectations Make useless abilities work for you within the context of the story, even the guy with blue skin has a story that enrich your world   Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories   Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things Superhero iTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube   Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social Media Superhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook Group   Trish Heinrich – Facebook | Instagram Jeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

For this episode’s Deep Dive, they’re looking backward at past conventions to talk about highlights and things they look forward to in future conventions.   Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.com  https://www.superhero-fiction.com   THE PULL LIST Jeremy - Marvel Zombies (Robert Kirkman, Sean Phillips, June Chung) This could very well be the best zombie horror I’ve come across. Unlike typical zombie stories, it focuses on the zombies more than the survivors. It isn’t about man vs. man in an attempt to wait out the hordes. Superheroes have become zombies and after feasting on the flesh of the people they were meant to protect, they become aware of their wrong doings and have to cope….until the hunger returns. This might very well be the most terrifying aspect of the comic. 5 out of 5 Capes. Trish - An American Covenant by Lucile Scott A somewhat subversive look at the mystical movements that helped shape aspects of our American culture and the women who pioneered them. If you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews.   GEEK OUTS Trish - Godzilla vs. Kong (starring Millie Bobbie Brown, Alexander Skarsgard, Rebecca Hall, Julian Dennison)  I wasn’t here for the plot (what plot?!), I was here for the smack down, and boy did this film deliver! This was the neon colored,  Kaiju wrestling match of my inner 80’s child dreams!  Jeremy - Chaos Walking (Starring Daisy Ridley & Tom Holland) Recently released, this novel adaptation seemed to completely slip through my radar. The premise: on a newly inhabited planet, all mens’ thoughts are audible and visible to those around them. But in a community with no women, the appearance of a female crash survivor sparks a growing list of questions. The plot is somewhat predictable, and I found myself asking questions about motivation, but the concept is nifty. I feel with more time to explore the universe, the aliens, and the history of this town, it’d be more captivating. But with the shortage of new science fiction, this quenched my thirst. Deep Dive -  The World of Superhero Conventions As superheroes turned from dirty secrets to mainstream media, one time small conventions have exploded across the country. Trish and Jeremy pick some of their favorite conventions, both in-person and virtual. Superhero authors, T.L. Heinrich and Jeremy Flagg rate comics and novels for the Pull List and present shows and movies for listeners to Geek Out over. For this episode’s Deep Dive, they are talking about the limited series, WandaVision now available on Disney+.    Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.com  https://www.superhero-fiction.com   THE PULL LIST   Jeremy - The Immortal Hulk 1-5 - Creative team Al Ewing, Joe Bennet, Ruy Jose (Cover by Alex Ross) Pushing itself away from the typical action-adventure storylines in comics, this firmly falls into the horror genre. Bruce Banner got an arrow to the brain, leaving him a typical genius (as opposed to comic genius) and he struggles with the duality of his existence with the Hulk. The first few issues are a quality look into the mind of a vigilante, only dips into horror at a PG level. If you like the concept of the Hulk, then this is a must read as the art is amazing. However, five issues in and I find I’m getting a rehashing of the Hulk’s struggle. Where the 2018 run of Venom reinvented the ethos, this continues the same story line. Quality efforts all around, but because we’re not getting something new, I say 3.5 out of 5 Capes.   Trish-A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas- Oddly enough this book falls in line nicely with the aspects of trauma and grief that we’ll be touching on later in the show when we talk about WandaVision. This is the fifth book in the series and centers around Feyre’s sister, Nesta and Rhysands adopted brother, Cassian. The two fell in love in the third book in the series, but due to the trauma of war and loss, Nesta went into a destructive depression. The book is filled with healing and owning the strength that can come from our trauma, while also creating found family that not only understands our pain but can strengthen one another through to healing. And oh yeah: Some of the HOTTEST sex scenes I’ve ever read! 5 out of 5 capes.   If you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews.   GEEK OUTS Trish-One Night In Miami-Directed by Regina King- Film is adapted from a play by the same name and is almost entirely contained in one location, on the night when Muhammad Ali (still Cassius Clay in this movie) won the Heavy Weight title. The movie focuses on Cassius, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke and Jim Brown as they navigate turning points in all of their lives. The movie is directed by the transcendently talented Regina King (yes THAT Regina King) who should’ve gotten a best director nomination. Jeremy - Snyder Knows How to Script a Pee Break - I’ve mocked it long enough, it’s time to admit. Snyder’s Cut is better than the original. Now let me trash the film’s shoddy story, plot holes, and relish in a director’s masturbatory fantasy that he is the one true God. Where Whedon received a solid F, this struggles to reach a D-. Snyder can’t tell a coherent story in four hours? What does man need to make that happen? Evidence of what would go wrong with a first draft? Millions in reshoots? A studio saying, “Do whatever you want?” This film was never about making a quality film, it was, and will always be about Snyder being able to say, “I made a better shitty film than Joss Whedon.” Deep Dive -  WandaVision: Grief and Female Power Like many, we can’t help but gush over this new chapter in Marvel’s ever-expanding universe. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany return as Wanda and Vision in this creative exploration into the world of grief. There is humor, sorrow, but most of all, a storyline that tugs at the heart, and creates a complex plot that empowers Wanda Maximoff, good and bad. Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.com https://www.superhero-fiction.com   Welcome back to another episode of Geekorama, the podcast by geeks for geeks. We are sponsored by Superhero Fiction.com, the one stop shop for all your superhero novel needs. We are your hosts Jeremy Flagg and this week, it’s Mr. Trish Heinrich is guest hosting.   For this week’s episode of Geekorama, Mr. Trish Heinrich and Jeremy are talking about the comic book and movie adaptations of the X-Men’s junior team, the New Mutants.    THE PULL LIST   Jeremy - Magik - Limited Series (1983) - Written by Chris Claremont and John Buscema. This is a rough read. The origin story of Ilyana Rasputin and her emerging as a magic wielding mutant doesn’t hold up to modern comics. Claremont’s hokey dialogue and explanation of every action (which is redundant with the artwork) makes it a bit of a slog to read through. Having an innocent girl constantly whining kind of makes it hard to connect to the character that appears in New Mutants. 2 Capes (The concept is better than the execution).   Dan- Mockingbird (2016) #1-8, Hawkeye and Mockingbird (2010) #1-6 Mockingbird has undergone non stop abuse by the writers at Marvel and even when she gets her own limited run with Hawkeye, she falls into the shadows compared to her companion. However, this drastically changes in the 2016 edition. While cancelled early, the first five issues culminate in an amazing storyline and prove that even a discarded character can shine with the right writer. 4 out of 5 Capes (2016 Comic)   If you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews.   GEEK OUTS Dan- Dream show: Agent Woo and Darcy as the Agents of Atlas! - With the end of WandaVision leaving fans dying for more, Dan has the perfection solution. Agent Woo and Darcy formed the perfect mix of confidence and humor and proved that even the b-list can shine. Agent Woo, having been part of Agents of Atlas in the comics opens an opportunity for Disney. Plenty of fans are dying for that X-Files style team-up. Jeremy - Sysiphus: The Myth - Korean Science Fiction filled with mystery and a bit of science fiction. After four episodes, I no longer care that I’m reading subtitles and I need to know what is going to happen between the genius engineer searching for answers about his brother’s death and an elite warrior from the future trying to protect him from the Control Bureau. A little bit of Korean drama, a sprinkle of science fiction, and a story that has me guessing at what will happen next. Deep Dive -  A New Genre of Mutants A group of b-list mutants take center stage as a new team of X-Men. Written by Chris Claremont, this group comes together and proves that heavily flawed characters can make for a great cast. We talk about the art direction, the genre bending story-arcs, and the expansion of the X-Universe and how it translates to on screen. We are sponsored by Superhero Fiction.com, the one stop shop for all your superhero novel needs. We are your hosts Jeremy Flagg and T.L. Heinrich   For this week’s episode of Geekorama, Trish and Jeremy are discussing our favorite superhero head canons   THE PULL LIST   Jeremy - Marauders: We all know I have a fondness for X-Men, and more specifically Kitty Pryde. However, when she took to the helm of an international vessel traversing the globe to rescue mutants, I had my doubts. The new X comics are a bit scattered and don’t feel cohesive, but this one has characters that cut through the arc. With the most recent issue featuring a vengeful Emma Frost, we have the superhero pairing I’ve been waiting for see Whedon’s run on Astonishing X-Men. A solid four capes.   Trish - Geekerella: I’ve read the ebook and audiobook. The ebook is FANTASTIC, the audiobook...So, it’s dual first person narrative, and the audio book has a female and male narrator. The woman was AMAZING, she understood what she was saying, she had emotion. It was wonderful. The guy...not so much. I tolerated him because I loved the story and the female narrator. Besides the fact that he’s supposed to be this huge geek and he mispronounced Dahlek TWICE, whoever produced his part of the narration was sloppy. There were entire sentences repeated in nearly every one of his chapters, sometimes two or more in a chapter! Because of that I give the audiobook three capes, and the ebook four.   If you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews. GEEK OUTS Trish - Documentary Now-If Christopher Guest had been given a TV show, it would be this show. Created by Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader. Batsh*t Valley and The Live Cast Recording of Co-Op: The musical.  Streaming on Netflix Jeremy - Monster Hunter - I have never played the game, so my expectations walking into this were pretty low. Considering it is a Paul W.S. Anderson, I thought it’d bring the same action as the Resident Evil series. It did, to a degree. The movie plays like a video game, light on the story and heavy on the game play. I didn’t care about the actors and the pacing had some serious issues. Even Jovovich’s badassery seemed lacking compared to her Resident Evil counterpart. It’s a good popcorn movie, but it won’t be blowing minds anytime soon. Deep Dive -  Superhero Relationships That Should Be Canon! Trish- Batman and Wonder Woman- Oh My God! Every single time I see the two of these on screen, whether animated or live action, THE CHEMISTRY! If there’s anyone who could balance Batman’s broody dead parents I have to be alone vibe, it’s the Amazon Princess. These two were the ONLY good part of Justice League. If they had given me a Batman Wonder Woman movie where all they did was flirt and kick ass, I would watch that every freaking week. The Flash and Killer Frost (The Flash Tv show)- I have never liked Iris, the chemistry is so limp, it’s not even funny. It’s like they mentally friend zoned each other and no one is willing to let them do it. Whereas the chemistry between Barry and Frost is *chef kiss*.  Rip and Sarah (Legends of Tomorrow)- Although I LOVE  Sarah with Ava, there was some great, simmering chemistry between these two. There were moments when I swore Rip wanted to kiss her and I was HERE for that!   Natasha Romonoff and Bruce Banner- Who doesn’t love a kick ass woman with the world’s most adorable nerd? Jeremy Emma Frost & Jean Grey - You have literal Fire and Ice with this coupling. I think with Jean’s wild mannerisms and Emma’s calculated demeanor, they’d be a delightfully dangerous pair of ladies. Also, let’s be honest, it’d be hot. Storm & Wolverine - We have seen this pair in a non-canon story by Chris Claremont. Wolverine and Storm have had a series of partners, and it never ends well. I feel this is a natural one. Between their respect for one another and moral guidelines, it’d be a perfect pair. Matt Murdock & Jessica Jones - They are both hot messes. Together they would be a massive disaster of egos. They would most likely try to kill each other, and it’d be the least healthy relationship in all of Marvel. But damn, it’d be a sexy train wreck! Xavier & Magneto - Not the comics, but their actor counterparts. I need to see more cute photos of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan. So let’s just make it canon and be on with it!   Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things Superhero iTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social Media Superhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook Group   Trish Heinrich – Facebook | Instagram Jeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

For this week’s episode of Geekorama, Trish and Jeremy are discussing our favorite superhero couples from comics, television and comics. THE PULL LISTJeremy - Black Widow: Widow’s Sting - Macchio, Duonfantino, Rosenberg- Looking for a Black Widow comic, this is one to miss. The piss poor writing and lazy story telling feels like an elementary school kid writing their first book. 1 Cape.Black Widow #1 (2020) - Thompson, Casagrande, Bellaire -  This run of Blackwidow however, allows Natasha to lead. The story is fast, witty, and puts the rest of her found family in the wings while she takes center stage. There is a mystery here and I want to know where it goes. 4 Capes. Trish - Warriors, Witches, Women: Mythology's Fiercest Females by Kate Hodges  A book all about the most incredible, mysterious and sometimes problematic women in mythology. This collection spans the globe from Ireland, to Japan, to ancient Sumeria. Perfect if you’re looking for a book of bite sized stories about some pretty amazing women. 5 Capes If you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews. GEEK OUTSTrish - Ugly Betty I’m revisiting this show and finding it to be the perfect funny, sweet comfort food right now. If you like quirky and heart warming, this is the show for you! (TW: Parental rejection of LGBTQ characters and problematic language around Trans character.)Jeremy - Space Sweepers - This Korean produced sci-fi drama brings an action packed storyline with delightfully cheerful characters. You can’t help but root for these people on their quest to make the world a better place. You ignore the huge plot holes, because who cares? The fast paced story is visually stunning and you wish it was the first of a series!Deep Dive -  Our Favorite Superhero CouplesTrish’s picks from TV and Movies:Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoke- Yes, I’m going non comic cannon on this one and saying Oliver and Felicity are THE BEST!Sara and Ava from Legends of Tomorrow- Don’t judge me! These two gave Oliver and Felicity a run for their money as my all time TV/Movie superhero couple fave. Lois Lane and Superman- But not just any iteration, I’m talking Margot Kidder and Christopher ReeveSelina Kyle and Bruce Wayne- We’re talking the BEST on screen iteration of this couple and that could only be Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Keaton.Ray Palmer and Nora from Legends of Tomorrow- Real life husband and wife made sparks fly on the show and any excuse to see Ray be a bumbling, smitten bundle of cute is alright with me.Honorable mentions:Stever Trevor and Peggy Carter (Unpopular opinion: if they hadn’t retconned their story and given them an HEA they would have been on the list), and Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.Jeremy’s picks from TV and Movies:Kitty Pryde & Piotr Rasputin - If you overlook the age problem early in their relationship, this is a love story that has conquered all. Even as they grew as individuals, they managed to find their way back to one another. This was the wedding I’ve wanted for decades.Wolverine & Phoenix & Cyclops - Don’t lie, you know they’re in a threesome. This is a throuple that deserves some serious screen time. A few scenes in the bedroom is well earned after all their angst.Cyclops & Emma Frost - Finally, somebody who made Cyclops interesting. Her unwillingness to let him rest on his boyscout persona, Frost helped create a man out of a boy playing at soldier. Peter Parker & Gwen Stacy - This one is filed under tragic love. They were together a short time before she died. Parker’s arc got really interesting when he discovered he was the reason she died. Tragic turned gut wrenching from there on.Superboy & Ms. Martian (Young Justice) - The animated series really made this couple believable. As they played mother and father to a ragtag group of superheroes, they dealt with some fun situations when one of the couple is a telepath. I have to say it’s one of the most believable couples in superhero animation.Honorable mentions:Professor Xavier & Magneto - Okay, it’s not real, but we have to admit that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan are the superhero power couple that 2021 needs.  Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things SuperheroiTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social MediaSuperhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook Group Trish Heinrich – Facebook | InstagramJeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

With this run of Venom coming to a close, there is good reason to see what all the fuss is about. The characterization of the Venom symbiote is done incredibly well and the emotional range on page is outstanding. What makes it even more interesting, in a few short pages it goes from being a side character in Spider-Man to having a mythos deeply rooted in the Marvel Universe. Well worth reading and the artwork puts this up there in the pantheon of comics. 4.5/5 CapesTrish - Haunted Heroine by Sarah Kuhn. This series is one of my all time favorites. It has kick ass asian american female heroes, steamy romance and a really fun world. This book also has some thrills and chills since it takes place at a seemingly haunted college campus during Halloween. Highly recommend whether or not it’s Halloween, 5/5 CapesIf you want more book suggestions stop by www.Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews. GEEK OUTSTrish - The History of Swear Words.  Wanna see Nic Cage chew scenery and swear up a blue streak? You could que up any of his movies OR you could have a good laugh and learn something by watching this limited Netflix series. It’s funny, informative, fascinating and so much more!Jeremy - Teddy Bomb. When the description includes a beer delivery guy, a plot to destroy the word and a teddy bear with laser eyes and chainsaw fur, how can you not watch it? It could either be the worst movie of all time, or comedy genius. This one might require cocktails with friends to work, but in the end, it had enough, “WTF” moments to make it entertaining. Deep Dive -  Impact Crater: How the MCU Changed Fandom  We are more than a decade into the major cross-over-event created by the MCU. Now with comics in the mainstream, there are a whole new wave of fans coming to comic book properties. With this new surge, there is always the fear of gatekeeping as new fans and old fans clash. However, we’re hopeful that this is going to create a new blend of fans who love these heroes from any era! Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero StoriesSubscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things SuperheroiTunes | Spotify | Podbean | YoutubeFollow Superhero-Fiction on Social MediaSuperhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook GroupTrish Heinrich – Facebook | InstagramJeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

THE PULL LISTJeremy - Wolverine #5 (Written by Benjamin Percy) has our favorite tortured mutant confronting his past, as he always does, and realizing he’s not quite a good person. But when the plot involves Vampires and Omega Red, we don’t need a good person, we need a mutant willing to slice and dice. 3.5/5 Capes Trish - Unravel the Dusk by Elizabeth Lim The sequel to Spin the Dawn and the conclusion to the Blood of the Stars Duology. This book is beautifully written, Asian inspired high fantasy. The world building is incredible and the heroine is now one of my favorite characters 5/5 Capes. If you want more book suggestions stop by Superhero-Fiction.com and read our editorial reviews. GEEK OUTSTrish - COBRA KAI Season 3!!! Everything I wanted and then some. Available on Netflix, this season brings back all our favorite characters we love and love to hate. We get the ship we wanted and get to see two cast members from Karate Kid Two and one from the original (who could it be?) The violence was darker this season as was Cresse, so be prepared for that. Slower start to the season, but the character development made it worth it.Jeremy - Need a superhero movie with a lot of heart? Then Superbob (available on Amazon Prime) is here for all your heart’s pitter pattering needs. Set in the United Kingdom, the world’s only superhero hasn’t had a date in over six years. The story is about doing what’s right, finding love, and savoring the little moments in life. It’s an absolute yes from me. For those suffering from action adventure fatigue, this is a movie that oozes heart. Deep Dive -  WW 84: Sequels vs. the OriginalFor this week's deep dive Trish and Jeremy sit on opposite sides of the discussion. They go into detail about the flaws and successes of Wonder Woman 84. With an outstanding original, they pick apart the highs and lows of WW84 and ask the question, "Can a sequel ever be as good as the original?"  Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things SuperheroiTunes | Spotify | Podbean | YoutubeFollow Superhero-Fiction on Social MediaSuperhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook GroupTrish Heinrich – Facebook | InstagramJeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

For this week’s episode of Geekorama, we’re talking about our predictions for 2021! What will be a hit, what might bomb, what could be a super surprise and more! It's a super packed special episode to end the year, so we are going straight into the Deep Dive for this one! Marvel shows and Marvel Films: Trish is looking forward to a few more of these than Remy, but both agree that we might be approaching the point where the interconnected universe will become unwieldy and bloated. Are we starting to get over-saturated on Marvel content?Disney+ and Star Wars: Remy is  looking forward to shows like Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and the Mandalorian because of the cast, not because he’s a fan of the franchise. Trish is pee her pants excited about Ahsoka, Lando, and Rogue Squadron to name a few.  But is the gluttony of upcoming content simply throwing spaghetti at the wall in the hopes some will stick?Warner Bro’s and CW: The CW had the chance to take a year off and polish their superhero universe. Instead they canceled one of their best shows, produced what looks to be the most boring superhero shows ever and are letting another one limp along until it dies. In the meantime their parent company makes a move that will likely completely change the landscape of how we view new films. It could be a really interesting year for Warner and DC.QotW: What are you most looking forward to in 2021? S1E37- Shazam! A Family Superhero Film

Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.comhttps://www.superhero-fiction.com For this week’s episode of Geekorama, we’re talking about a fun superhero holiday film. No, it’s not Diehard, but we could be convinced he’s got superpowers. This week we’ll be discussing the surprising “holiday” hit: Shazam! Pop-Culture Trivia - The first superhero film: Captain Marvel While this is a contentious subject, with some film historians citing Zorro as the true first superhero film, others say that it was a 12-chapter serial from Republic Pictures in 1941: Adventures of Captain Marvel. Based on a Fawcett Comics hero who later ended up as part of the DC Comics roster, it focused on a young man named Billy Batson who transforms into a godlike good guy and battles a supervillain called the Scorpion. This crude attempt to bring comic heroes to the big screen suffers from the usual stop-start cliffhanger-itis of the episodic form, but the foundations of the genre — an origin story, a secret identity, a costume and an arch-nemesis — were all cemented into place.GEEK OUTSTrish - Trish ditched her Geek Out because Jeremy mentioned Star Wars.Jeremy - This season of the Mandalorian has been filled with delightful fun for even those of us (me) who prefer Star Trek over Star Wars. The “child” has been much more of a character and I can’t wait to see what weird thing he’ll eat next. But the shining moment has been the cameos of other well known sci-fi folks such as Kate Sackoff and Rosario Dawson. Who knows, at this rate maybe I’ll become a fan of the franchise?Deep Dive -  Shazam!Trish Liked:  Zachary Levi...that’s all. Just kidding! Although, HELLO Eugene!Seriously though, Levi was pitch perfect as Billy Batson’s older and bigger alter ego. He channeled that same energy that Tom Hanks did in Big and made it superhero gold. The representation in this film was almost perfect with the members of Billy’s foster family being multi cultural and LGBTQ. The design of the costumes was fun and did not hyper sexualize anyone.  And I loved that it was set at Christmas, when magic and wishes are a staple of the season and also of this superhero film. What I didn’t especially like was the fact that when the kids transformed into their ideal selves, the chubby kid was thin and the kid with cane didn’t have to use it anymore. This is a problem because many people in those situations are made to feel by society that they are somehow less, and none of them have a magic catch phrase to take those things away. Some of them flat out don’t want to and they should have to in order to fit in. There was a missed opportunity for Freddy especially to have a powerful arc in realizing that just because he walks with a cane it doesn’t mean he’s not a powerful hero.Jeremy Liked: The writing and the smart, witty, family friend humor. It’s easy to be crass, but to be wholesome and still laugh out loud funny, that takes effort. It had so many great moments that even on second viewing, you walked away chuckling again. The story is an origin story, which I generally loathe, but they did it through the lens of a child and the big kid in me ate it up. Not only did it cater to our love of superheroes, it catered to that inner child who always wondered what would happen if we became a hero. The movie doesn’t pull any punches and shows the reality of what would happen. Granted, I’d be more of a villain, but we gotta save something for the sequel.QotW: What is your favorite holiday film?Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things SuperheroiTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social MediaSuperhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook Group Trish Heinrich – Facebook | InstagramJeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

After two years of gaming, Day decided to make something productive from her experiences and wrote the series as a sitcom television pilot. The series was purposely kept generic to avoid copyright problems and to appeal to a wider audience of massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) fans, but Day based it on her experience with a World of Warcraft addiction.  The Guild is considered one of the most successful Web Series of all time. You can stroll down nostalgia lane or catch it for the first time on Netflix.GEEK OUTSTrish - Going old school and geeking out about Eureka. This show is my warm fuzzy blanket that reminds me that somewhere out there in a sleepy Oregon town there are wonderful weirdos that are flawed and loving and that no matter what mayhem they concoct, it always ends up okay in the end.Jeremy - In the pursuit of non-superhero superhero movies, this week I had a chance to sit down and watch the newly released Mortal, a Norwegian based film. What’s even more weird is how the latest episode of the Simpsons directly connects this plot to the concept of superheroes as a new religious mythos.  Deep Dive - Dr. Horrible is actually pretty wonderful. We jump into the humor of this shoe-string budget and how it might still be quite relevant today in isolation. While it might not seem very "super" by the title, we all know that the most villainous characters also happen to have PhD's.QotW: What's your favorite musical?Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things SuperheroiTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social MediaSuperhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook Group Trish Heinrich – Facebook | InstagramJeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

We’re looking at two fan made films and a short indie film reminding us of what geek power is capable of.Pop-Culture Trivia - The very First Comic ConThe very first comic convention was held on July 27, 1964 in New York City. Though there were probably other small fan conventions held elsewhere in the US, this was the first known event for comic book fans.  A total of 56 fans attended, including a fifteen-year-old George R.R. Martin, who had purchased the first ticket to the event months earlier and would go on to create Game of Thrones decades later. GEEK OUTSTrish - Here I Am, the Dolly Parton Documentary on Netflix. Dolly Parton is possibly one of the most intelligent, shrewd and incredible performers in all of country music. Though I don’t especially like country music as a rule, I have always loved Dolly Parton.Jeremy - Can we say advanced copy of New Mutants? Why yes we can! After two years and five release dates, I finally had a chance to see the youngest X-Men with a slant of horror. Was it worth the wait? Debatable, but we got the Illyana Rasputin I’ve always wanted with a little bonus of her sidekick (no spoiler) and overall, I’d rate it higher than at least half of the X-Men films. With only a few minor adjustments, I will commend them on staying mostly true to the characters. In 2008, takings that would be the equivalent of $150 million, making 'Halloween' one of the most successful independent films of all time. John Carpenter considered the hiring of Jamie Lee Curtis as the ultimate tribute to Alfred Hitchcock who had given her mother, Janet Leigh, legendary status in Psycho (1960).Halloween was shot in 20 days in the spring of 1978.GEEK OUTSTrish - Paranormal Women’s Fiction. Although Lugosi resented the years of typecasting that followed his breakout performance in Dracula, he asked to be laid to rest wearing the Count’s signature garment. GEEK OUTSTrish - Animal Crossing New Horizons! Yes I am woefully late to the party on this one but let me just say that after three weeks of playing this, I TOTALLY get now why this is the game of 2020. So very soothing!Jeremy - I have finally finished watching Season 2 of The Boys. I wasn't sure what to expect from this shock-driven series, but season two is even more of a bang. Patrick continued her career at Universal Studios and is cited as being the first woman to work in a special effects and makeup department. She is best known for being the creator of the head costume for the iconic Gill-man from the movie Creature from the Black Lagoon. During promotion for the film Patrick was sent on a press tour, dubbed "The Beauty Who Created the Beast", to discuss the creation of the creature. This was quickly changed by Bud Westmore to "The Beauty Who Lives With the Beast", to avoid citing Patrick as the creator of the Gill-man.  GEEK OUTSTrish - Enola Holmes! Fun, action packed and GREAT for the whole family. This is the first Enola Holmes movie based on the book series. Millie Bobby Brown is the titular character with Henry Cavill as Sherlock, Sam Claflin as Mycroft and Helena Bonham Carter as Eudora, their incredible mother. Watch it now on Netflix.Jeremy - Van Helsing. Vanessa Helsign. This show is the right amount of action, diverse cast and borderline weird plot. You have everything from serial killers, to cultists, to a woman who can turn vampires into humans. It's not the best sci-fi show out there, but it does have some interesting plot moments and the lead actress is just the right amount bad assery. Deep Dive - Superheroes Halloween edition: BladeWe delve into the awesomeness that is 1998's Blade. She went to New York's School of Visual Arts, which offered the kind of rigorous training that Cloonan had been searching for. She also collaborated with writer Steven T. Seagle on the Vertigo Comics series American Virgin, which was cancelled with the 23rd issue. In 2012 she became the first woman to draw the main Batman title. (Her issues included Ghost in the Machine, The Wedding Batman Black and White and Gotham Academy) GEEK OUTSTrish - Cobra Kai never say die! Yes, I’m totally geeking out about the series based on the 80’s sensation that was The Karate Kid. Both Danny and Johnny are back in this series that takes place many decades later. While the characters might be the same, the story is not. In fact, there is no clear villain or hero in the first season, unless you count the characters’ own inner demons. It’s a redemption story, a comedy, a drama. It’s got everything. Including nostalgia dripping from every episode. Both season now on Netflix.Jeremy - We’re going old school and revisiting some early 2000’s science fiction. The first is a hyper saturated movie with all the glitz and none of the glam: Ultra Violet. But why stop there? Let’s throw Aeon Flux into the mix. Even an outstanding job by Theron can’t save this sinking ship. Ormes's first comic strip, Torchy Brown in Dixie to Harlem, first appeared in the Pittsburgh Courier on May 1, 1937. Her work was not syndicated in the usual sense, but, since the Courier had fourteen city editions, she was indeed read from coast to coast. The strip, starring Torchy Brown, was a humorous depiction of a Mississippi teen who found fame and fortune singing and dancing in the Cotton Club.  GEEK OUTSTrish - Avenue Five on HBO. An interstellar cruise ship gets the Gilligan’s Island treatment and instead of a few months of cruising, they get...three and a half years. Hugh Laurie is SO good in this!Jeremy - After quite some waiting, the long-awaited sequel to Korea’s Train to Busan has been released. The first movie was a zombie sensation that revitalized the genre. While not a direct sequel, Peninsula has its moments to shine. The car chase scenes make Mad Max come off as a lackluster Sunday drive. While Peninsula has a bit of a genre crisis at times, it still entertains and has quite a few stand out moments. The character first appeared in Secret Origins Vol 2 #46 in 1989. He was originally from the future and has never canonically been a member of The Squad. In the movie, he’s played by Nathan Fillion.Polka Dot Man- First crossed paths with Batman in 1962’s Detective Comics #300. He uses detachable polka dots as weapons, some that transform into different objects. He is played by David Dastmalchian in the movie.Ratcatcher 2- Detective Comics #585 introduced the Ratcatcher, the original villain was a ratcatcher who had knowledge of the sewer tunnel system in Gotham and could talk to and train, you guessed it, rats which he used to restrain, and torture victims and to smuggle goods. The film introduces us to a gender swapped version of the character who appears to be a legacy since she’s the second one. She’s played by Portuguese film actress Daniela Melchior GEEK OUTSTrish -Lucifer Season Five, Part One. OMG, I binged it in one day and am having some withdrawals. We got some GREAT fan service, Tom Ellis is an acting genius as he portrays not just Lucifer but his twin brother Michael and fans finally got the moment we’ve been waiting five seasons for!Jeremy -  Been going on a vampire rampage lately. Burned through the five Underworld movies (and soon onto Blade.) Underworld 1 is a classic and just an all around good action film. The rest start getting more and more convoluted as they attempt to expand the storyline and shoe-horn in some romance. Thankfully Kate Beckingsdale returns for the final two (three is worth skipping!) Deep Dive - The DC Fandome Trailers!WW84-Absolutely will see, this trailer made me want it even more if that’s possible. I’ll be there opening weekend. The Batman-I’ll catch it on Amazon, at this point, seen the previous dozen Batman films, you’ve seen them all.Suicide Squad-I am optimistic with James Gunn at the helm and the team of Z listers he’s assembled that this could be what the first Squad movie should’ve been. And Elba, Capaldi, and Fillion don’t hurt either.Gotham Knights-Now THIS is the Batman movie I wish we were getting, why? Because Batman is dead, hear me out. I would love a spin on the Batman mythos that shows us what Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood would have to do in the wake of Batman’s murder to protect Gotham and navigate the murky waters of his legacy. If they make this for the Switch I will play the crap out of this game! The Snyder Cut- Do I have to say it? Hard pass. If you need four hours to tell a Justice League movie, you don’t know what the hell you’re doing. And I’ll admit that the toxicity of the fans who clamored for this makes me want to avoid it even more.Black Adam- Um...ok? The best part, it’s based on narrative art books created by Simon Stalenhag and the Zon does them justice. Check out his book: https://amzn.to/30L6mtQ Deep Dive - The Umbrella AcademyTrish -  They fixed the major issues for me from the first season, although it was close. I honestly did not trust the showrunners so I was distracted by worry throughout the season and admit that it diminished my enjoyment of the season overall. That being said, I liked it enough that a second viewing is in order so that I can absorb it better. The last episode sealed the deal for me in the way that Vanya was allowed to legit be the most powerful person in the room without destroying the world, and how they really tried to reach Lilly and invite her into the family. The scene between Ben and Vanya is the most powerful one in my opinion. He gives her permission (in a healing way) to be angry and hurt, he validates her experiences of abuse at the hands of her father and helps her start the healing process. It was beautiful.Jeremy - My bar was set pretty low. The first season is filled with characters I spent more time hating than loving. There is a thing as too much quirk and I think trying to make every character the extreme of that quirk got tiresome. I prayed for Vanya’s death by the end (actually, all of them.) The second season is a different story. It opens with a bang, quite literally. There is more depth with each character as threads of their lives are actually plot relevant. Vanya is less annoying (I only wanted her dead here and there) and it goes to show some serious amnesia can fix a poorly plotted personality. Ben gets to be relevant. They attempt to give Diego some depth (and yet nerf him in the process) and Klaus is really just more of the same ol’. Allison saves the season for me. Her story has relevance, it’s retro and very now at the same time. She has romance, complexity, and a few badass moments. The rest of the family is better balanced which lets you enjoy the story, but if you found them annoying in season one, be prepared for more annoying. QotW: Did you love or hate Season Two of the Umbrella Academy?Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things SuperheroiTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social MediaSuperhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook Group Trish Heinrich – Facebook | InstagramJeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.comhttps://www.superhero-fiction.com For this week’s episode of Geekorama, we’re talking about the Russian made superhero film, Guardians. Is it so bad it’s good? POP-CULTURE TRIVIAAugust 1940 Claire Voyant aka The Black WidowIntroduced in Mystic Comics #4 as "the strangest, most terrifying character in action picture magazines…” Her book features artwork by Harry Sahle. According to Jess Nevins' Encyclopedia of Golden Age Superheroes, "The Black Widow can kill with a touch and has other, Satan-derived, plot device powers. The wrongdoers she goes after are ordinary humans, although one group of them call themselves Murder, Unlimited and another is the Cult of the Black Widow Spiders." Her next appearance occurs 51 years later, in a flashback cameo in one panel of issue #1 (Jan. 1994) of the mini-series Marvels ("A Time of Marvels", written by Kurt Busiek with art by Alex Ross), and again eleven years later (Feb. 2005), also in a brief flashback, in Marvel Knights Spider-Man #9 ("The Last Stand", written by Mark Millar with art by Terry and Rachel Dodson).GEEK OUTSTrish - Blood and Ash by Deborah Wilde.Jeremy - I've been knee deep in photography research. Starting a side project and need to spend copious amounts of time looking at models. The good thing is I'm rediscovering my love for the European Mod movement in fashion. Who knew the 70's needed to make a come back? Deep Dive - So bad it’s good: GuardiansTrish - Unfortunately, it’s just bad. What I liked: some of the visuals (not the effects) were really compelling, the makeup effects on the big bad were very well done, and the heroes did have interesting power sets (except for the woman who just turns invisible...but only in water...ok). What I didn’t like: cheap effects aside (because I think they did the best they could with what little they had) the script SERIOUSLY hamstrung this film. Jeremy - How dare she? It's awesome! What I liked: I go into these movies with the bar already set low, so consider me impressed with the specific methods they utilized their budget. The effects weren't horrible (nor great) but they really emphasized the SFX around their abilities. It's the first time teleporting has been done this well (Sorry Nightcrawler) and this is the Invisible Woman that Fantastic Four deserved and never got. What I didn't like: The script! That was painful, and why were they doing what they were doing? Does anybody have motivation or is this movie the product of boredom? It's hard to tell for the majority of it....BUT POWERS!!!! QotW: What is your favorite so bad it’s good movie? Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things SuperheroiTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social MediaSuperhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook Group Trish Heinrich – Facebook | InstagramJeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.comhttps://www.superhero-fiction.com For this week’s episode of Geekorama, we’re going to give you a sneak peek at some of the exciting things happening in our author careers. We finally open up about our own writing in the superhero genre, and talk at length about why we’re branching out to touch upon other sub-genres. Pop-Culture Trivia-July 1971 Swamp ThingA humanoid/plant elemental creature, created by writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson, the Swamp Thing has had several humanoid or monster incarnations in various different storylines. The character first appeared in House of Secrets #92 (July 1971) in a stand-alone horror story set in the early 20th century. The Swamp Thing television series first aired on the USA Network from 1990 to 1993, with Dick Durock reprising the role of Swamp Thing from the movie adaptation. DiC Entertainment's Swamp Thing animated series debuted on Fox Kids in April 1991, with Len Carlson providing the voice of the title character. A live-action series based on the Swamp Thing and produced by James Wan was released in 2019 on the DC Universe streaming service, with Alec Holland portrayed by Andy Bean while Swamp Thing is played by Derek Mears in a "physical costume."GEEK OUTSTrish - The Last Kingdom on Netflix. It’s a blatant soap opera, but it include Vikings, so who really cares?Jeremy - Some wonderfully bad horror movies (warning, I spoil pretty much everything.) What happens when you take AirBnB, annoying people, and a crazy dude with a hammer? Deep Dive - What’s New in Our Superhero Worlds?Trish - I’m pivoting my Superhero universe to start focusing on more romantic novels. For TL Heinrich, it will be superhero first with slow burn romances and read quite a lot like Paranormal and Urban Fantasy with romantic elements more front and center. For Trish Heinrich, it’s Romance first, superheroes second with a good dose of steam.Jeremy - The second series is with the editor and I'm looking at a busy fall. After my pilot series focusing on action adventure, the prequel is much more of an alternate history / urban fantasy vibe. While that's with the editor I'm working on a much thicker science fiction novel that takes place centuries in the future. My current strategy is to maintain a superhero focus while touching on other genres to expand readership. We'll see how this pans out! QotW: What is your favorite superhero sub-genre? Visit Superhero-Fiction to Discover Uncanny Superhero Stories Subscribe to Geekorama to Stay Up-to-Date on All Things SuperheroiTunes | Spotify | Podbean | Youtube Follow Superhero-Fiction on Social MediaSuperhero-Fiction Facebook Page | Superhero-Fiction Facebook Group Trish Heinrich – Facebook | InstagramJeremy Flagg - Facebook | Instagram

Since there have been a long list of people who have portrayed him, we focus on the live-action roles of (mostly) modern iterations of the Man of Steel.Pop-Culture Trivia - July 1981 - Vixen PremieresCreated by Gerry Conway and Bob Oksner. She first appeared in Action Comics #521. a superheroine in possession of the Tantu Totem, which allows her to harness the spirit (ashe) of animals. She can conjure the power and abilities of any animal past or present. Two versions of the character appeared in The CW's Arrowverse. Original comic book character Mari McCabe debuted in the CW Seed animated series Vixen, voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke, who also reprised her role in an episode of the live-action parent series, Arrow. Legends of Tomorrow introduced a World War II-era Vixen, Amaya Jiwe, identified as Mari's grandmother, portrayed by Maisie Richardson-Sellers.GEEK OUTSTrish - The Old Guard...HOLY CRAP! Netflix has managed to outdo themselves with their newest movie. Starring Charlize Theron, this graphic novel adaptation leaves us wanting more, and perhaps we’ll actually get it! Jeremy - Graphic design and photoshop tutorials have become a way of life. Finally putting those art degrees to use, I’ve been focusing on book cover creation which really means I spend most of my day reverse engineering some of the best book covers in the science fiction genre. Deep Dive - Which Superman Will Save Me?Many have assumed the role as the Man of Steel and his nerdy alter-ego, but the question remains, who did it best? We duke it out as we cover the live action actors who have donned the cape and brought this titan to life. Sorry Turkish Superman (Süpermen Dönüyor) you only get an honorable mention. Geekorama is Produced by Superhero-Fiction.comhttps://www.superhero-fiction.comFor this week’s episode of Geekorama, we’re discussing what you can read to tide you over until Wonder Woman 1984 (hopefully) gets released in theaters.Pop-Culture Trivia - 1965 Wonder Girl: Donna TroyOriginally there is a bit of confusion about this character because, in an effort to make Wonder Woman more palatable after the publication of Seduction of the Innocent, they did a series of Impossible Tales showing WW as a child who was called Wonder Girl. Then in a July 1961 WW comic, Wonder Girl is referred to as a separate person from Diana. The first time Wonder Girl appeared as a separate person from WW was in The Brave and the Bold #6. Commonly connected with Teen Titans, she is considered a founding member of the team. Her most iconic iteration has to be the George Perez and Marv Wolfman run on Teen Titans in the 1980’s. Donna has a SLEW of weird, retconned origins including: being a magically brought to life reflection of Diana so the young Princess had an age-appropriate playmate, a golem brought to life by Wally West’s incomplete memories of her from a previous iteration who is then forced to relive all her previous lives, resurrected by Titans of Myth so she can be exploited as an anomaly that existed prior to the Crisis. Recommended reading: Teen Titans by George Perez and Marv Wolfman.GEEK OUTSTrish - Warrior Nun! A great Netflix show that has an interesting approach to a female dominant cast. The acting is top notch. The topics get dark and there is plenty of humor. Netflix shoots itself in the foot with a tragically abrupt ending that is bound to be unresolved knowing how easily they cancel shows.Jeremy - The perfect marriage of comics and graphic design can be found with HelloMuller. The designer who created the design behind Powers of X and House of X is nothing short of visual eye candy. The best part is, he has a long history with comics. To see more of his work (and an amazing video that punches you in the face) check out: https://hellomuller.com Deep Dive - What to read while waiting for Wonder Woman 1984Wonder Woman #9 by George Perez - The Essential Wonder Woman StoryWonder Woman #3, 5, 7, 8 - The Rebirth Storyline (involves some crazy plant gods!)Max Lord: too convoluted and spread out over a bunch of cross over issues to give really good comics to read, basically here’s a quick rundown of the character: a successful businessman, he starts out as a very weak hero during the Crisis on Infinite Earths mega comics cross-over. Post Crisis he ends up putting together because the world needs heroes. It’s revealed later that he’s doing this for nefarious purposes and all hell breaks loose. He’s now, canonically, a villain. From this, he crafted a magic ring which gave him a wide variety of powers. The limitations of the ring were that it had to be "charged" every 24 hours by touching it to the lantern for a time and that it could not directly affect objects made of wood. Alan Scott fought mostly ordinary human villains, but he did have a few paranormal ones such as the immortal Vandal Savage and the zombie Solomon Grundy.  He was part of the Justice Society of America, had his own comic as well as appeared in Comics Cavalcade and All-Star Comics. At the end of WWII Supers fell on hard times and his comic was canceled. He never again had his own title and later his character was revamped and renamed to Sentinel to avoid confusion with Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern.GEEK OUTSTrish - Lucifer!!! OMG gimme the fifth season NOW!Jeremy - I’ve been obsessed with Jamin Winans’ soundtrack for the movie Ink. In my pursuit of indie movies I found this amazing low-budget film that relies on high concept and creative execution. With no money for SFX or music, Jamin Winan had to execute it himself. Check out the Trailer: https://youtu.be/ZBGeErufQdY Deep Dive - The X-Men’s First WolverineTrish’s fave Wolverine moments: XMen First Class “Go fuck yourself” and the rage he felt after Xavier was murdered in Logan.  Worst moment? For this week’s episode of Geekorama, we’re discussing the role that propaganda has played in the history of superheroes.Pop-Culture Trivia- Batwoman: Kathy KaneJuly 1956 Batwoman aka Kathy Kane made her debut. Here’s a little trivia about this interesting addition to the Bat-family: There are really two different women who have worn the moniker of Batwoman, the first was Kathy Kane who was introduced as a potential love interest for Batman to help combat accusations that Batman was gay propaganda. In spite of the fact that she became quite popular with readers, in 1964 the character was shelved and Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl took over as the female counterpart to Batman. In 1977, thanks to pressure from fans, Batwoman was brought back to assist Batgirl with defeating Killer Moth and Cavalier. Soon after she was killed off by the Bronze Tiger. Finally, in 2011 she was returned to the original continuity of the comics, revealed to be Bruce’s aunt who fought crime by his side after she was widowed and that they had become lovers before it appeared she was killed offGEEK OUTSTrish - A Blade so Black by L.L. McKinney. It’s like Buffy and Alice in Wonderland had a baby. SO good, world-building that is vibrant but not overdone in exposition. A female protagonist that is three dimensional and avoids the ‘strong female character’ tropes. LOVED IT, going to buy the sequel.Jeremy - I’ve been binging the latest season of the 100 on the CW. It marries some of my favorite things: regressed society with advanced technologies, tribalism, and a whole lot of bad decision making. It’s been a great show and really delved into the brutal nature of survival, however, the newest season is struggling. Really, you’re trying to work in a Back to the Future plot?Deep Dive -Superheroes in the Propaganda MachineIn recent years we’ve heard the ongoing criticism, “Keep politics out of comic books,” and the people shouting that, you’re incredibly stupid and seem to forget that the very nature of comics is rooted in political propaganda. However, let’s start this dive into history with an English lesson:Propagandanoun : the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person WWII (The Obvious Starting Point for Many of our Modern Heroes)Superman - Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (both Jewish) met at Glenville High School in Cleveland Ohio and in March 1938, Captain America - Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby (both Jewish) through Timely Comics. While Simon created the identity of “Super American,” later changed to “Captain America”, Utilized in other forms of PropagandaWonder Woman - The engine of American ideology drives Wonder Woman, which is in the end a movie about violence...And so the surreality at the heart of American identity gets recycled, producing comic book movies to feed our least noble hungers. https://newrepublic.com/article/143100/wonder-woman-propagandaWonder Woman & Superman - In Deadly Legacy, DC joins forces with UNICEF to create a story line that specifically addresses “landmine awareness” for children. She along with Superman step outside their patriotic roots to delve into a much different message than national pride.Green Arrow & Green Lantern (Drug Addiction) - Written by Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams, the story line focuses on the duo combatting muggers who are robbing to score money for drugs. Amongst them, Green Arrow’s sidekick and now heroin addict, Speedy. HIV/AIDS AwarenessSuperman / Wonder Woman - The French organization AIDES created two images depicting Superman and Wonder Woman with AIDS and the caption of, “Protect Yourself.” X-Men - 1993 during X-Cutioner’s Song, Stryfe unleashes a virus that infects mutants at random. Scarlet Johansen dyed her hair red before she was offered the part because she wanted it so badly. She also trained for the six weeks leading up to filming as well as the entire six months of filming. 2019 Avengers End Game Trivia: RDJ was the ONLY  actor that read the entire script (whether due to overachiever OR the fact that everyone didn’t get a complete script), much of the dialogue about time travel was from actual quantum scientists, Evangelin Lilly and Paul Rudd filmed this and Ant-Man and the Wasp at the same time.GEEK OUTSTrish - Lucifer on Netflix. But first, a little Pop Culture History.POP CULTURE HISTORY - Summer Blockbuster Edition-the 00’s2000 X-Men is released and becomes one of the summers’ top blockbuster films. Trivia: Rebecca Romijn was isolated in a windowless room between takes to keep her look a secret, she endured nine hours of prosthetic makeup application to 60% of her body every day of filming, the contacts were so irritating to her eyes and limiting to her vision that she could only wear them an hour at a time before needing a break. She describes her experience filming this movie as “hell”. Bryan Singer rather infamously was angry that she couldn’t be “more naked” during filming (because he's a toxic douche bro).  Also: Hugh Jackman’s testicles got caught in his harness after jumping off the sets Statue of Liberty during filming. OUCH! 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine is released and is one of the summer's blockbusters, (though no one knows why). Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were disappointed with this film (you weren’t the only ones!) Reynolds got a second shot at playing Deadpool when the X-Universe was reset (thank god!) Hugh Jackman was offered the role of Tony Stark/Ironman and turned it down to do this film, so Robert Downey Jr. was cast instead. Magneto and Professor X were going to get origin story films but those were scrapped for X-Men First Class. GEEK OUTSTrish - I’m late to the party again and have just discovered Avatar the Last Airbender on Netflix. This show is so good! Complexe storytelling, funny, sweet with beautiful world-building.Jeremy - I’ve been watching some award-winning indie films. We also love a hero who doesn’t always see things as black and white and walk a comfortable space in between right and wrong. It’s well-drawn, but honestly, it’s already suffering from the same problem earlier X-Men books had, too much cross over and not enough distinct storylines. It’s worth checking out if you like the characters, but seeing Apocalypse as a good guy is a hard pill to swallow. Hopefully, we get a better clue where it’s going in the next six months.Deep Dive Book ClubTrish’s Selection: Soon I Will Be InvincibleBy Austin GrossmanDNF, not because I didn’t like it, but because I got obsessed with a Superhero Romance series and read four books in two and a half weeks! From what I read, I do very much recommend it if you want a different take on supers and villains. As a bonus, check out the Romance series that has captivated my attention here. 5 stars out of 5Jeremy’s Selection: Wonder Woman - OdysseyBy Michael Straczynski (Writer) & Don Kramer (Artist)For the first foray into Princess Diana, it is an interesting premise. Meeting with an oracle found under a New York bridge, she learns that "what is is not what was." Something about history has changed and rewritten the plot to Wonder Woman. Her home was destroyed as a child and she was raised by Amazons on the run from modern day men. It takes an old story and makes it current and there is a ferocity in the justice Wonder Woman dispenses. It maintains her ethos, but she has no problem getting brutal. There is more blood than one would associate with the Princess. The first half of the plot is interesting and tells a nifty tale, but after that it spirals into a weird magical backstory that just feels as if it went off the rails. It might have gotten an extra half star except for the self congratulating blabbering about the redesigning of Wonder Woman's costume that sounds more like a bunch of dudes patting themselves on the back than actual redesign. With that being said, it's worth checking out for a new spin on an old classic.4 stars out of 5QotW:  What superhero and villain combo is your favorite?

The Endless and The Platform are two horror movies worth checking out on Netflix. The Endless involves brothers returning to a cult and has a bit of Lovecraftian horror and the Platform is essentially the vertical version of the Cube. Not amazing, but worth adding to your quarantine watchlist. Deep Dive- Trish’s Book- Trail of LightningIt wasn’t my thing (I’m a bit biased against dystopian novels), but it was a solid book with good characters and if you like weird dystopia, this is the book for you! It features a monster hunter, authentic indigenous voices in America, and a whole lot of magic. There is a bit of weird that happens between the main character and her mentor that makes the plot a bit unsettling, but overall, it’s compelling enough to consider reading the second book in the series.4 Out of 5 StarsJeremy’s Book- The Walking Dead: Days Gone ByThere was a lot to like in this series by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. I’ll admit, I watched the show before reading the comic so there is a bit of bias in that regard. The first issue is compelling. Rick wakes up from a coma in a world gone mad and filled with zombies. The angles and techniques used to create a sense of isolation start with a bang in this six-issue arc. However, the moment Rick finds his wife and son amidst a group of campers outside of Atlanta, it starts to fall apart. The storyline feels rushed and there isn't’ enough time to develop the love triangle behind Rick, Shane and Lori. There are too many interwoven stories that cloud the primary story. This is where the show, with two seasons to see this arc to fruition was better able to create a tense atmosphere with intrigue. But despite its shortcomings, there is enough intrigue to warrant a read and even continue (hopefully the bumpy road at the start is due to publisher jitters.)3.5 Out of 5 Stars Next month Book ClubSoon I Will be Invincible by Austin GrossmanWonder Woman: Odyssey (#600 - #614)

Binti has a talent for mathematics and is a master harmonizer. But on the way to the planet where Oomza is located, aliens called the Medusae attack, leaving Binti as the lone student survivor. She has to fend for herself and survive the five-day journey with a shipful of the aliens.  Binti discovers that the Medusae are planning an attack and so she has to try and broker a peace agreement between them and the leaders of Oomza. What happens transforms her in more ways than one, and Binti’s life is forever changed. She becomes even more of an outsider to the Himba people than she was by simply leaving, and becomes an object of curiosity at best and revulsion at worst by those around her.The three novellas have themes of transformation, being an outsider and the courage to enact necessary change when everything is resisting that change.  They are simply and beautifully written, the world-building is simply done without a lot of explanation and yet I wasn’t lost at all. I highly recommend reading the trilogy as one complete novel because you get a really compelling, complete story.  Jeremy's Selection: Daredevil: The Man Without FearBy: Frank Miller (Author) and John Romita Jr. (Artist)Originally created by Stan Lee and Bill Everette in 1964 and known as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. However, amongst the many stories about this “street level” vigilante, one will always rise to the top. In 1993, a limited edition, five issue comic was released blending the solemn and poetic words of Frank Miller along with the gritty and violent artwork of John Romita Jr. The story delves into the origin of Daredevil, taking key moments from his childhood, teen, college and adult life that led him to wear the suit. What we quickly learn is that Matt Murdock is not the hero we need, he’s the hero we deserve. Surrounded by tragedy, first with the death of his father, then the abandonment of Stick and later Elektra, Matt tightly holds onto the shred of humanity that puts him just slightly on the right side of good and wrong. What makes this story unique does come from the origin story itself, or the tragedy Murdock faces on his way to becoming a masked vigilante. No, the beauty of the story comes from an almost cold detached narrator giving us insight into what we’re seeing. Written in third person, we are left wondering if these words are from some godlike figure, or if they’re Murdock himself from the future looking back. The simple statements packed with emotion, both good and bad, rope in the reader and take them on a turbulent ride. By book five, when we finally see Murdock don the classic red devil costume, it feels earned, as if he was given no other option. We the reader are left feeling that it is the only choice we could have made. In five issues, we are given an emotional landslide that provides context for the existence of another person, or at least, a devil.Rating: Five out of Five StarsWant to Join our Book & Comic Review for April:  Trish ReviewsTrail of Lightning: By Rebekah Roanhorse https://amzn.to/2UEdbZI Jeremy ReviewsThe Walking Dead: Volume 1https://amzn.to/2QGK9rt

Trish is excited that her upcoming new release has already made it at the top of the new releases for African American Science Fiction.Jeremy is working like crazy to finish editing the Night Covenants Audiobook. It’s currently offering a chance for him to cool off from writing steamy superhero romance. This month in Pop-Culture History1972-Misty Knight makes her premiere in Marvel Team-Ups #1 1985- Robotech premiered in US syndication, 1998-Titanic became the first film to gross over 1 billion dollars worldwide,  Geek Outs Trish's Geek Out! If you’re wanting a little more Woo in your life, look no further than the Glow Girl podcast! Two midwest moms talk about the ins, outs and slightly crass side of Astrology and Tarot while being incredibly down to earth in the process. Though raised in a conservative Christian home, I’ve been yearning for something a bit more Female empowering in my spirituality. I was never sure where to start and decided “Why not just start with Wicca” last fall. Though it doesn’t quite fit me, I’ve fallen in love with crystals, oracle cards, and Astrology, not to mention Goddess culture in general, as a way to expand on the restrictive faith of my childhood. I know it sounds woo-woo, and that’s why the Glow Girls call it Woo. Seriously, it is a little woo-woo, and I’m ok with that. Glow Girl Podcast Jeremy's Geek Out!In the pursuit of superhero shows that aren’t Marvel and DC action-packed extravaganzas, we have a new trend that is happening. I Am Not Okay With This is Netflix providing a story that focuses on character development and not the over-the-top action. Created by the same team that brought us Stranger Things, this show focuses on a Sydney, a teenage girl who doesn’t fit in. Drawing on the universal feeling of isolation in the teen years, this show goes a step beyond puberty and adds budding superpowers. The show has some flaws overall. It’s dangerously close to Stranger Things, awkward kids, doing awkward things and a young female with telekinesis. The other major downfall is that it is only seven episodes long and just and just as the plot finds a direction, it ends. It’s obvious that Netflix is splitting the season to help spread out their content, but the cliff hanger is irksome.Watch the trailer on Youtube Deep DiveWhat’s the difference between genders in iconic superheroes? There are numerous reasons why a hero can make it to icon status. It can be the writer, the artist, or even the reader who propels them to this legendary status, but there's an unfair uphill battle that female characters face. Trish and Jeremy discuss the two powerhouses of DC, Superman & Batman. While Superman embodies the hopes we have for humanity and our needs to always be in the right, Batman operates in the gray area of morality. We want Superman's hope, but we want Batman's ability to persevere when there is no easy answer. For Marvel, there is Wolverine and Deadpool. Wolverine is the loner whose internal struggle is between being a human and submitting to the animalistic rage. We understand his anger, and ultimately hope that he manages to find peace and happiness. Where as Deadpool has exactly zero F*cks to give. He's the man readers which they could be in the real world, no filter, no care for consequences. Deadpool has the unique trait of being the newer superhero and has quickly risen to icon status. For the women both Trish and Jeremy noticed something different. Storm and Ms. Marvel aren't frequently knocked back to the status quo, they're more often clawing their way for acceptance. Storm is an iconic black goddess who even in her darkest hour holds a semblance of grace. Without her powers she still finds an identity that rivals her male counterparts. Ms. Marvel, with a tragic back story (tragic as in sexist) had to bide her time until writer Chris Claremont used her for more than a prop. Despite being torn down over and over, she manages to become a hero that is now recognized by the masses. While the men often lose their powers to learn lessons, these women lose their powers to keep them in check. However, no writer can keep them down as they are propelled into the limelight and cherished by fans. For more on the women: Superwomen: Gender, Power and RepresentationQuestion of the WeekWho do you feel is an iconic superhero and why?

Trish is attempting to survive with two girls home from school this week and a flu that won’t go away.Jeremy is working on a superhero romance for an anthology. He’s going to attempt writing in some steamy scenes even if it makes him blush. This month in Pop-Culture History1940 the radio show The Adventures of Superman first premiered1960 The Justice League first premiered in The Brave and the Bold #28, written by Gardner FoxWayne’s World premiered in theaters in 1992 and became the 8th highest-grossing film of the year, and is the highest-grossing film based off of a skit from SNL (Saturday Night Live)Geek Outs: The Book Club Edition!Trish's Geek Out!This month I read Dreadnought by April DanielsIt’s the story of a Trans girl who comes in contact with the hero Dreadnought in the moments of his death and she receives his powers. Her gender identity has been a secret until Dreadnought’s powers transform her into the ideal version of herself, and she suddenly has the body of a sixteen-year-old female. She is then faced with the responsibility of being a teenager with all the incredible powers of one of the worlds’ most famous heroes, along with the transmisogyny of her father, the unwanted advances of her best friend and discrimination from a terf in the city’s superhero team. This is an incredible coming of age superhero story with some of the usual tropes that don’t feel dusty or worn out. The scenes of discrimination and transmisogyny were hard to read at times because it was so real, you could tell that the author has been there. Ultimately, this is a story about living as your authentic self no matter what and finding fulfillment by doing so. And, it’s just a really good superhero story. I give it five out of five stars. Jeremy's Geek Out!This month I read X-Men: The End by Chris Claremont & Sean ChenThe End is Claremont’s farewell to the franchise and and characters he brought into the limelight. The X-Men have aged and we’re seeing their legacy play out. Bishop and Deathbird’s daughter liberates one of the most iconic characters, Jean Grey. The rise of the Phoenix (a story line originating in Claremont’s Phoenix Saga) forces the Shi’ar to unleash the War Skrulls, who attempt to exterminate the X-Men and nearly succeed. We watch beloved characters sacrifice themselves in moments of emotional heroism. Plot points from the Dark Phoenix Saga, Inferno, and the Mutant Massacre weave together beautifully to give us the closure Marvel denied its fans. It’s a brutal goodbye, while unfilled questions set up in the 80’s and 90’s are finally answered. Ultimately, if this were the final arc for the X-Men, it’d be tough, but I would say it couldn’t have unfolded any other way. I give it five out of five stars.Want to Join our Book & Comic Review for March:  Trish ReviewsBinti, by Nnedi Okorafor.
