From abroad, the chaos in Washington resonates far and wide, as the U.S. government shuts down, with Democrats going to the mat for American's healthcare. Just as the shutdown took place, Christiane spoke with Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen who has worked towards bipartisan consensus for more than thirty years but also believes it's time to mount an effective opposition to some of Trump's policies. Then, director Benny Safdie talks to Christiane about making his new film, "The Smashing Machine," dealing with loss and transforming Dwayne Johnson, aka "The Rock," into a mixed martial artist. Plus, another blow for Afghanistan's women after the internet was shut down in the country for days. Amanda Davies has a special report on the exiled girls fighting for freedom through football. And, defying bombs and presidential warnings to break the news, former CNN chief, Tom Johnson speaks to Christian about his new book, "Driven," dealing with depression and how he led CNN through a golden age despite a nightmarish job interview with Ted Turner and Jane Fonda. Then, after a total and sudden internet blackout by the Taliban in Afghanistan this week, from her archives, shortly after 9/11, when the U.S. and its allies sent the Taliban and Al-Qaeda packing, Christiane's 2001 report about what it was like when TV and satellite were finally brought back. And finally, remembering the remarkable life of primatologist Jane Goodall,  Christiane revisits her conversation with the woman who changed our understanding of the world. Air date: October 4th, 2025 Guests: Jeanne Shaheen Benny Safdie  Tom Johnson  Learn more about your ad choices. Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this episode of The Wright Report, we cover Trump's proposed Gaza peace plan, a mysterious U.S. tanker deployment to Europe, the Pentagon's scramble for missiles and drones in a possible China war, and Russia and China's unraveling fortunes in Africa. From a potential breakthrough in the Middle East to covert battles in Africa's deserts, today's brief explores the fights shaping America's security.   Trump's Gaza Peace Plan Gains Arab Backing: For the first time since the October 7 attacks, Israel, Trump, and key Arab nations have united behind a deal. Hamas must release hostages, disarm, or go into exile while Gaza governance shifts to a Peace Board overseen by Trump and regional leaders. “This is basically the final offer to Hamas: accept it or death,” Bryan explains. Even Arab allies like Qatar and Saudi Arabia have signed on, leaving Iran isolated.   U.S. Tankers Deploy to Europe, Iran or Russia in the Crosshairs: Twelve U.S. refueling tankers flew to Britain, echoing prelude movements before Trump's strike on Iran earlier this year. Possibilities include targeting Iran's Pick-Axe Mountain nuclear site, sending a warning to Putin after drones crossed NATO skies, or simply NATO's Cobra Warrior exercise. Bryan notes, “Intel officers always ask, is the juice worth the squeeze?”   Pentagon Short on Missiles and Drones for China: The U.S. has burned through a quarter of its missile interceptors and lags years behind on drone programs. Chinese subcontractors are even supplying critical parts for American weapons. Trump is pushing a mineral war strategy to rebuild U.S. supply chains. Bryan warns, “We don't have the cards for a quick victory in Taiwan,” and Zelenskyy is offering U.S. training in exchange for Tomahawk missiles Washington can barely spare.   Russia and China Struggle in Africa's Sahel: Islamist rebels are killing Russian contractors and Chinese workers across Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. Moscow's Africa Corps has failed to protect regimes after Wagner's collapse, while Beijing's mines and projects are under attack. Elon Musk's Starlink is fueling rebel communications, and some suspect CIA or Ukrainian forces may be quietly aiding the insurgents. Bryan admits, “I can absolutely envision a scenario where a CIA officer recruits an al Qaeda scumbag to kill Russians and Chinese for us.”   "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32     Keywords: Trump Gaza peace plan Hamas exile, Israel Arab nations Gaza board, Hamas hostages prisoner swap, U.S. refueling tankers Britain Iran strike, Pick-Axe Mountain nuclear site, NATO Cobra Warrior exercise, Pentagon missile shortage drones, Chinese subcontractors U.S. weapons, Trump mineral wars tungsten antimony, Zelenskyy drone deal Tomahawk missiles, Russia Africa Corps failure Wagner, China mines rebels Mali Niger Burkina Faso, Elon Musk Starlink jihadist comms, CIA recruit al Qaeda assets Africa

A federal grand jury has indicted former FBI Director James Comey on charges of making false statements and obstruction of justice, a move sought by Trump's newly appointed prosecutor. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss how Comey repeatedly lied to Congress about leaks and surveillance of Trump's campaign, citing FISA abuses, the Russia probe, and the targeting of Michael Flynn through an illegal wiretap.  Critics including Lindsey Graham contend Comey withheld exculpatory evidence about the Clinton campaign's role in fabricating Russiagate, undermining the rule of law. Jimmy frames the indictment as overdue accountability for Comey, while also warning that political prosecutions reflect deeper corruption in the U.S. justice system. ROGGIO Bill Roggio, associated with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, discussed the recent news regarding a hostage situation involving the Taliban. Key details from Roggio's segment: Hostage Release: Secretary of State Rubio reportedly won the release of an American citizen who had been held hostage by the Taliban in Kabul for nine months. The citizen was being held "illicitly and outrageously." The Cost (The "Twist"): Roggio noted that the crucial detail—the "twist"—is what the US may have given up in order to secure the return of its own citizen. The Likely Swap Target: It is very likely that the exchange involves an individual held at Guantanamo named Muhammad Rahim, an al-Qaeda operative. Significance of Muhammad Rahim: According to US intelligence: Rahim was close to Osama bin Laden. He helped bin Laden escape from Tora Bora. He served as Mullah Omar's driver. Mullah Omar was identified as the founder and former head of the Taliban. US Military Stance and Prediction: Muhammad Rahim is an individual whom the US military does not want to release. Despite this, Roggio predicted it is very likely that Rahim will be "walking free sometime soon." Negotiation Dynamics: Roggio concluded that in these types of negotiations, there is "always a cost," and the Taliban usually wins.

Somalia has a serious security challengePaul Njie speaks to Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia, about ongoing efforts to achieve security and stability in his country. While he says much progress has been made in tackling terror, he acknowledges that the insurgent groups al-Qaeda and, in particular, al-Shabab still pose a serious challenge. However, he refutes the American charge that Somalia is a safe haven for terrorists - a charge that has led to a US travel ban for Somali nationals. He also stands firm in the face of pressure to allow the secession of Somaliland, the self-declared republic in the north of Somalia. The country's unity, he says, is sacrosanct. Long-running tensions with neighbouring Ethiopia are downplayed, and instead he gives his support to working together in both countries' interests. President Mohamud first came to power in 2012, at the head of an internationally backed Government that brought a degree of stability to a country riven by civil war for decades. Re-elected for a second time in 2022, he is now attempting to change the country's constitution to allow direct voting for all citizens rather than through clan elders. He believes this is necessary to continue Somalia's journey to democracy. Thank you to Paul Njie, Hassan Lali and Gladys Kigo for their help in making this programme. Born into a well-educated and well-off Syrian family, Ahmed al-Sharaa – also known by his nom de guerre Abu Mohammad al-Julani – joined Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's organization, al-Qaeda in Iraq, after the U.S. invasion of that country in 2003. Following the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, he established al-Qaeda's branch in Syria: Jabhat al-Nusra. In 2016, he severed ties with al-Qaeda, and al-Nusra evolved into Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS — the force that in 2024 toppled Bashar al-Assad's Tehran-backed regime.Today, the former terrorist is the interim president of Syria. With the U.S. bounty on his head gone, he last week became the first ex-al-Qaeda member to address the UN General Assembly – in a suit and tie, no less. The U.S., the Turks, the Saudis, the Qataris, the Israelis, and others want to influence him. FDD's David Adesnik and Ahmad Sharawi join host Cliff May to discuss.

CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER INDICTED FOR SMUGGLING GUNS TO CARTEL.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-United Kingdom: Scandal has erupted following the announcement of a national identification paper scheme. The British government is set to implement a mandatory digital ID system that will be required for all British citizens to be allowed to function in society.Europe: Drone incursions have continued over the past few days, with limited reports of drone incursions popping up in Norway and Denmark. Overnight, more drones were spotted over the port city of Korsor, along with a handful of airports scattered around the country.Analyst Comment: Right now it's hard to tell if these drone reports are any different than the standard incursions that have become common in civilian aviation over the past few years. When an airport sends out a hazard report to pilots, a description of "UAS activity" doesn't really indicate much. What is quite clear is that the initial drone reports in Denmark were vastly different than most of the typical quadcopter reports that are more common. However, now that media attention is on the skies once again, it's possible that more drone sightings will be reported. It's also very likely that, now that people are paying attention, more people will confuse legitimate drone threats with commercial aircraft, as has been a trend lately.-HomeFront-Mississippi: This morning 911 call center services went offline for the entire state, which local authorities state were caused by a "series of fiber optic cuts".Analyst Comment: Right now it's not clear as to if this was the result of malign action, or by accident. Generally speaking it would be a bad idea for an entire state's critical infrastructure to be vulnerable to one swipe of a backhoe, but it's certainly possible.Illinois: A Chicago police officer has been indicted for smuggling weapons for cartels in Mexico. The indictment states that Officer Kevin Rodriguez used his law enforcement credentials to purchase firearms that were illegal for normal citizens to buy in the states of Illinois and Indiana. He was then paid by a cartel member by the name of Diego Valdez, who took possession of the firearms and smuggled them into Mexico. Analyst Comment: This scheme allegedly ran from September to December of 2024, and so far all of the court documents indicate that only two rifles were smuggled into Mexico. However, this may be a larger network, as these types of arrangements usually go on for some time before they are detected.Alaska: This morning US Air Force aircraft were scrambled to intercept Russian bombers off the west coast. A flight of Russian Tu-95 BEAR H aircraft were observed approaching the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), which prompted American aircraft to intercept them and escort them during their flight near American airspace.Analyst Comment: This is a fairly standard event that usually goes unnoticed most of the time. However, this case is probably related to President Trump's recent comments on Russia's incursions in Europe, namely stating that European powers should shoot down Russian aircraft that violate their airspace.New York: As the UN General Assembly continues, President Trump met with the new leader of Syria, Ahmed Al-Sharq, where he is expected to be a focal point of this year's summit.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: As a reminder, Ahmed Al-Sharq changed his name upon seizing power a few months ago. His previous name was Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, a high-ranking al-Qaeda commander from the Global War on Terror. Upon his AQ-linked militia group seizing power during the fall of the Assad regime, he changed

Twenty years ago, Sharaa was a devotee of al-Qaeda and detained in an Iraqi prison. The new President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, aka Mohammed al-Jolani, is in New York for what is widely being described as the first visit by a sitting Syrian president to the US in nearly six decades. But even more significant is another fact: it's also the first state visit to the US by a leading veteran of Al Qaeda and ISIS.Just last year, al-Sharra/al-Jolani – the founding leader of Al Qaeda in Syria and a former deputy leader of ISIS -- was on the US terrorism list with a $10 million reward for his arrest. But after leading the overthrow of Syrian president Basher al-Assad, the US has removed that designation and welcomed Jolani's ruling Al Qaeda offshoot government. After all, as Jake Sullivan put it at the outset of the dirty war in early, 2012, “Al Qaeda is on our side in Syria.”Because the US is on Al Qaeda's side in Syria, that also means overlooking atrocities under its founding leader's watch. Since al-Sharaa/al-Jolani took power, government forces have committed sectarian violence against Syria's minority groups. In March, hundreds – possibly thousands – of Alawite civilians were massacred in Syria's coastal regions. In July, hundreds more, mostly Druze civilians, were killed in Syria's Suweida region. The Grayzone's Aaron Maté speaks to members of two Syrian minority communities about the ongoing sectarian violence at the hands of a ruling Al Qaeda offshoot that the US and allies helped put in power.Guests:Dr. Morhaf Ibrahim, head of the Alawite Association of the United States.Hibbah Jarmakani, a Druze Syrian-American originally from Suweida province in Syria.

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.  Without explicitly saying so, two recent official disclosures suggest we are at war.  The first, issued by the National Counter-Terrorism Center, warned that al Qaeda cells have embedded themselves across major urban centers in this country. Consistent with the group's 9/11 attacks, their targets appear aimed at maximizing casualties and chaos by targeting transportation systems and crowded public spaces. The second, just revealed by the Secret Service, indicates that a devastating attack on telecommunications networks in the New York City region was narrowly averted this week. It's being described as the work of an unnamed foreign government and individuals here.  We need an informed national debate about the war we are in, the fact that it could go fully – and potentially devastatingly – kinetic at any moment and how Americans can be read-in and crowdsourced to help authorities identify and counter enemies within.  This is Frank Gaffney.

Far from a full-scale invasion, modern technology and drone capabilities make retaking this critical base a precise operation—key for countering terrorist training camps and projecting power across the Middle East and beyond. We explore how the previous Biden administration's withdrawal left the base in the hands of the Taliban and China, the implications for Al Qaeda and emerging terror networks, and why Trump sees Bagram as a linchpin for future operations against Iran's nuclear program. From border security to global military strategy, this episode examines why “doing nothing” is not an option—and how modern warfare changes the game.

In this Monday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, we cover Charlie Kirk's memorial service and its powerful messages of faith and forgiveness, Trump's crackdown on Harvard and Berkeley, fresh threats from al Qaeda inside the U.S., Trump's push to retake Bagram air base, TikTok's murky new ownership deal, Argentina's fight against socialism, and what's ahead this week on the Wright Report. Quick hits to launch your week with the facts shaping America and the world.   Charlie Kirk Memorial in Arizona: Erika Kirk vowed, “No one will ever forget my husband's name — and I will make sure of it.” She forgave the assassin, telling the crowd, “That man… I forgive him.” Trump honored Kirk as a man of grace but joked, “Charlie did not hate his opponents. That's where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponents, and I don't want the best for them.”   Trump Hits Harvard and Berkeley: The White House placed Harvard on a federal watchlist restricting access to $550 million in funds, citing civil rights violations and leftist violence. UC Berkeley handed over names of 160 students and staff after pressure to expose antisemitic and radical faculty. Bryan says this is Trump waging the fight “where it belongs — in their pocketbooks.”   Al Qaeda Plot Inside the U.S.: The National Counterterrorism Center warns AQ operatives from Yemen are in multiple American cities. Rumors suggest they may pose as police or medics during future attacks. Bryan urges vigilance: “While we may be done with Radical Islam — it is not done with us.”   Trump Demands Afghanistan Return Bagram Air Base: The president warned the Taliban, “Bad things are going to happen” if the U.S. is not given control of the base, citing the need to monitor China's nearby nuclear sites. Kabul insists “not one inch” will be ceded.   TikTok's U.S. Ownership Deal: Fox's Murdoch, Oracle's Larry Ellison, and Dell's Michael Dell will sit on TikTok's new U.S. board, with one seat reserved for a Chinese official. The assassination of Charlie Kirk They frame Kirk’s death as a political assassination, comparing it to historical killings of JFK, Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. The hosts emphasize concerns about political violence, the dangers of polarization, and left-wing reactions online. They highlight messages of unity from unexpected voices on the left, such as Cenk Uygur, while contrasting that with those celebrating Kirk’s death. Persecution of Christians in Nigeria Cruz details violence by Boko Haram and ISIS-West Africa, citing statistics of tens of thousands of Christians killed and thousands of churches destroyed. He introduces the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025, which seeks to: Classify Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” for religious freedom. Keep Boko Haram and ISIS-West Africa labeled as terrorist groups. Sanction Nigerian officials complicit in persecution. The discussion connects this to broader issues of U.S. foreign policy, criticizing past administrations (especially Obama and Biden) for not doing enough to defend persecuted Christians. Tucker Carlson’s controversial statements Carlson’s remarks about offering condolences to Osama bin Laden’s family, questioning Hamas’s designation as a terrorist group, and sympathetic portrayals of Russia and Iran are strongly criticized. Cruz and Ferguson accuse Carlson of moral relativism, equating his views with those of progressive politicians like Ilhan Omar or Rashida Tlaib. They reaffirm that groups like Hamas, al-Qaeda, and ISIS are terrorist organizations, citing both U.S. and international designations as well as historical attacks.
