Today, I'm chatting with Emmy Award winner Kevin Spirtas about the debut of season 3 of his 6-time Emmy Award-winning digital series, After Forever. The show stars Kevin as Brian and Mitchell Anderson (Doogie Howser, Party of Five) as Jason, a "50-ish" gay couple living in New York City who appear to have it all -- until Jason's untimely death from cancer forces Brian to think about his future and ultimately his mortality, without the love of his life. Season three finds Brian exploring therapy as a means to help him move through his grief while he also attempts to address the idea of dating again. I've known Kevin since our early days pursuing acting in New York City when he was featured in several Broadway productions, including A Chorus Line, Meet Me in St. Louis, and was the official standby for Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz. Along the way, daytime TV fans came to know Kevin through his long-running role on Days of Our Lives as “Dr. Craig Wesley.” In 2014, Kevin ran into former Days Of Our Lives writer Michael Slade in a New York gym. Eager to create their own opportunities, the two set out to create a series about gay men over 50. In 2019, After Forever—Season 1 made history by becoming the most Emmy-awarded LGBTQ-themed drama series on any platform. David Harris is an Australian actor who somehow found himself moving from architecture school to the bright lights of Broadway. He shares his early passion for architecture and how he pivoted to a career in performing arts just three days into his studies. He looks back on his journey, including participating in talent quests at RSL clubs in Australia and having friendly competitions with Broadway performer Ricky Rojas. Being in the workshop and eventually being cast in "The Boy From Oz" marked a significant turning point in his career and what he considers his claim to fame. He reminisces about his experience working with Hugh Jackman in the show, and a memorable commercial shoot with him just before New York shut down for COVID (click here to watch). David reflects on the differences in how musical theatre is perceived in Australia, the UK, and the US, his personal experiences with it, and his frustrations with the lack of recognition for musical theatre actors in Australia compared to Broadway performers in the US. He emphasizes the critical importance of swings and understudies in theatre, and his gratitude for them in keeping the show running smoothly. While he's already managed to prove naysayers wrong, David has no plans on stopping when it comes to the pursuit of growth and constant learning. Robyn Arthur is one of Australia's leading theatre performers who soon celebrates 50 years working in the Industry. Robyn toured with Jonathan Church's Singin' in the Rain and Jonathan Biggins' Australia Day for Hit Productions and Mother & Son with Noeline Brown for McLaren House. In 2013, she toured Australia in Elizabeth Coleman's play It's My Party (And I'll Die If I Want To!) with Henri Szeps for Hit Productions and appeared in the Production Company's Singin' in the Rain directed by Gary Young at the State Theatre. In 2011, she starred again alongside Todd McKenney in the hit revival of The Boy From Oz having also appeared in the original cast. For Stephanie, she was either going to be a nun or a musical theatre actress. She elaborates on this as she looks back on her early days and her influences growing up, including her mom. She reflects on her journey as an actress, moving to New York in her early 20s and being intimidated by the city, leaving and eventually finding her way back. Being involved with the original creation of “Wicked”, Stephanie recalls how she dealt with rejection and why she believes that rejection is protection. She shares more anecdotes, including the two-hour work session she had with Hugh Jackman, meeting her now husband Sebastian Arcelus on the Wicked 1st Nat'l Tour, what made her say yes to playing Cher, and getting the right speaking voice for the role… with the help of Crest Whitestrips. Jess LeProtto's incredible voice, energy, razor sharp dance technique, and jaw-dropping jumps and turns have earned him a place in the Great White Way spotlight. He started singing and dancing at age 5, and performed in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in Nashville as a kid. He went on to get his BFA in Musical Theatre from Pace University and shuffle ball changed his way into the company of The Boy From Oz, where he made his Broadway debut in 2003 followed by Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and Bye Bye Birdie.  He played the role of Buttons in the original Broadway cast of Disney's Newsies, and it was that show that truly solidified his Broadway veteran status. Tony winner Stephanie J Block is In The Frame ahead of her upcoming concerts, discussing her career and highly anticpated return to London! Stephanie started out in the world of US regional theatre, playing roles such as Polly in Crazy For You, Nellie in South Pacific, Sarah in Guys & Dolls, Fanny in Funny Girl, Nancy in Oliver! and many more. Todd's stage credit roll and career highlights include his most notable role of Peter Allen in the Australian hit production The Boy From Oz, in which he performed over 1000 shows nationally and became one of the longest running and most successful musical productions in Australian history. Todd's first professional musical role was in 1983 in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song and Dance. His career followed with lead and headline roles in Cats, 42nd Street, West Side Story, Crazy For You, Born Yesterday, Camelot, Pirates of Penzance, Cabaret, Strictly Ballroom, La Cage aux Folles, Singin' In the Rain, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Orpheus In the Underworld for Opera Australia, Annie the Musical, Grease, Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks and Anything Goes.  In 2018 he stepped into the stilettos and successfully took on the role of Frank N' Furter in The Rocky Horror Show in Melbourne. In 2019 Todd stepped out on stage as Australia's Greatest Showman in the title role of Barnum, and most recently played Lord Farquaad in the hit musical Shrek and Lord Chancellor Sebastian in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. As a dancer, his journey started at the age of three at his mother's dancing school in Perth, training in jazz, tap, acrobatics and ballroom dancing. He represented Australia in ballroom and Latin American dancing, winning many international dance titles. Amongst his Australian awards for performance in musical theatre he has two Mo Awards, the Variety Club Heart Award, the Glug Award, the Green Room Award, two Australian Dance Awards and a Helpmann Award. On the small screen Todd has starred in the hit show Winners and Losers on the 7 Network.  He has also appeared as a guest judge on Australia's Got Talent, hosted on a range of morning Television programs and appeared as an entertaining guest across all networks. On radio Todd co-hosted Sydney's MIX106.5 breakfast radio program with Sonia Kruger for two years and is a regular guest on the airwaves. In 2020, Todd played Lewis in the award winning feature film Unsound. On the small screen Todd has appeared in the acclaimed ABC series Significant Others; an engrossing, intelligently crafted six-part series about a missing persons case.  On a personal level, Todd had the delight of becoming a father in 2007 and his daughter Charlotte is the light of his life. He is a student of Auslan sign language and has worked within the deaf community all around Australia. Mike then went onto work with one of his favourite directors, Baz Luhrmann on the Australian production of, Strictly Ballroom. In 2017 Mike scored the hattrick with The Production Company performing in Hello Dolly (Rudolf), Jesus Christ Superstar (Simon of Zealots) and Brigadoon (Sword Dancer). Leading the pack this year was Ozian juggernaut Wicked with 10 nominations, followed by six for Avenue Q, five for The Boy From Oz and six for Caroline, or Change. In a rare year where four productions were nominated for Best Revival of a Musical, a Roundabout Theatre Company production of Assassins led with seven, followed by six for Fiddler on the Roof, five for Wonderful Town and two for Big River.
