The King is back! There are many routes into biathlon. Grace Castonguay is part of a new generation of athletes who are finding the sport and moving quickly up the ranks. A passionate runner, Castonguay only got into cross-country skiing when an injury curtailed her running. She loved it! Just a few years later, she made her World Cup debut in December 2023, racing in Hochfilzen and Lenzerheide. When Castonguay first stepped onto skis during high school in 2019, she passionately embraced the sport. Together with her younger brother Theo, they traveled around the New Hampshire high school circuit. In her senior year, she helped the Kennett High School Eagles – Sean Doherty's alma mater – win a state title. The vital step in her storybook tale came when she accompanied Theo to a fall biathlon camp at Utah's Soldier Hollow in October 2020. There, she caught the attention of coach Zach Hall, who invited her to the biathlon range. Now she was really hooked! She progressed quickly. The next March (2021), she raced in her first biathlon event – U.S. Nationals at West Yellowstone. In October 2021, she was the second and third junior in races at the Soldier Hollow Schutzenski trials. While she failed to make the Junior Worlds team out of trials, she doubled down on cross-country, transferring mid-year to ski for St. Michael's College. That December (2022), she posted strong results again during trial races at Craftsbury, qualifying for the IBU Cup and eventually the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships in Kazakhstan, where she had the top U.S. women's results in both sprint and pursuit. Her success on the college carnival circuit and with biathlon has created a bit of a juggling act for Castonguay, which she is embracing. As the team captain for the Purple Knights, she's committed to the college schedule in January and February. But she is also looking to take advantage of her biathlon opportunity, going to Europe for the first races of the second trimester before heading back to ski for St. Michael's. In the back of her mind, she realizes that the NCAA Championships in Steamboat Springs overlap with the IBU World Cup in Soldier Hollow in early March.Needless to say, it will be a busy season. But for a young athlete who only slid on a ski track four years ago, she's anxious to embrace every single opportunity, be that as a member of the Ethan Allen Biathlon Club, the St. Michael's Purple Knights, or the U.S. Biathlon Team. Here's a sampling of what you'll learn in this episode of Heartbeat. This is a remarkable story of a young athlete's passion for sport and the emotions that athletic success can bring. So, Grace, that was a long road trip! This was my longest span of time in Europe – my longest time away from home forever. It was about a month and a half on the road. How did you originally get into skiing? So the punchline of this story is that I actually did not learn to ski, or step foot on skis, until four years ago. So, I am pretty much a baby in this sport. I grew up playing soccer and running cross country. When I was 14, I broke my leg playing soccer, and that kind of switched me fully into the endurance mode or lifestyle. I ran high school cross country and was really into running. I wanted to run Division 1 in college. That was my big goal. And then, because of the lasting, effects of my broken leg – I broke my tibia and fibula, which caused my growth plates to close. – running just really did not suit my body. I broke down a lot. My mom became the high school Nordic coach for our team so my brother could enter races. My indoor track season ended a little early and she was like, ‘Come on. Like, don't you want to join the team? It will look good on college resumes.' And I figured, hey, why not? I entered my first Nordic ski race about three weeks after I learned to ski. I looked like Bambi on ice skates. What clicked for you when Zach Hall invited you to the range in Soldier Hollow?I had shot a biathlon rifle before because my brother was a biathlete, but I hadn't really caught the biathlon bug at that point. So I figured, okay, why not? I'll go to this practice. I'm here. Something to do. And I went to that practice that day, and things clicked for me. I really started to see why people love this sport. One of the big things was that Zach identified that I am left-eye dominant despite being right-handed. And when I had shot a biathlon rifle before, I was shooting righty and I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. So once we figured out that I was left-eye dominant, that made a huge difference to how I felt about the sport. And I also just really enjoyed the way he explained the process. Zach is a really phenomenal coach in a multitude of ways. He's really great at the mental aspect of sport. I remember going home that day from practice, and I said to myself, ‘I want to be really good at this.' And I remember watching videos of Dorothy Revier and her extremely fast standing shooting time. And I was like, ‘I want to be this good someday.' So, from that point, my goal is kind of shifted gears all in towards biathlon. There was no operating biathlon range in Jackson at that point, so my brother and I built a little range in our backyard because we live kind of in a pretty remote place, and I would just shoot. What was your biggest takeaway from Junior Worlds? The biggest thing I took away from competing at Junior Worlds was just how amazing the IBU sport family is. It was my first Junior Worlds. It just felt so wonderful to be part of such a rich and large group of really high-level junior athletes. I remember going to the opening ceremony, and it was it was just really cool to be there. You're passionate about biathlon. What does it mean for you to dig deep? There's there's this place that has – it's a really fun place to go, and I don't get it very often. You can only capture it for a couple of races a season, where you're just like, you have this moment and I need to dig deeper than I've ever dug before. You can see it like I was never passing out at the finish line, like laying on the ground after a cross-country running race. But you push yourself so hard in Nordic skiing, and I really enjoyed that.Did you watch videos?Oh, yeah! YouTube basically taught me how to ski. YouTube was my best friend. I would just watch technique videos religiously and then try to capture that image in my brain and replicate it on skis the next day. What was your debut like on Hochfilzen?Going into the training day, I showed up and I was just, like, star-struck. There are so many cameras. There are so many superstars. And it was really hard to not get distracted on the range – like following in awe of some of the greats like Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold and Lisa Vittozzi. It was really a super cool experience. Then getting to the race day, just the noise. Oh my gosh, the noise is so incredibly loud. The sound just kind of envelops you and it's hard to hear your own thoughts. And also another really surprising thing is how many USA fans there were. I was I remember warming up on the course and just hearing USA, USA and people knew my name and that was really special. What was your emotion when finishing your first World Cup?I remember finishing the race and my only goal going into my first World Cup start was I wanted to recapture the feeling of pure joy that I had felt in my very first Nordic ski race four years prior. I remember finishing this the race and my whole body was just shaking from the energy and the noise and the thrill of having this huge, huge accomplishment under my belt. I mean, making the World Cup has been the dream since I started. So it was really a huge culmination of emotions crossing that finish line. It was also really special because my mom flew out to watch the race and I actually could hear her yelling for me above all the fans!Follow Grace Castonguay@grace.castonguay

MLB – Major League Baseball Today Detroit (Skubal 6-8) at Oakland (Logue 3-4), 3:37 p.m. – Game 1 WSJM/WCSY 3:15 Detroit (Hill 1-1) at Oakland (Montas 3-9), 7:07 p.m., – Game 2 WSJM/WCSY Cubs and White Sox are off MLB – Judge, Yanks on top as baseball returns from All-Star break Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees lead the way as baseball returns from the All-Star break. The Yankees begin the second half with a gaudy 64-28 record and a whopping 13-game lead over Tampa Bay in the AL East. The crosstown Mets are on top of the NL East, looking to hold off the Braves and take the franchise’s first division title since 2015. The postseason picture is quite crowded, thanks to the addition of a third wild card in each league. Cincinnati Reds ace Luis Castillo, Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras and Washington Nationals slugger Juan Soto are the names to watch ahead of next month’s trade deadline. MLB – MLB All-Star Game wins night but draws record low ratings Major League Baseball’s Midsummer Classic remains the most-watched all-star game in professional sports, even though it drew record lows in viewership for the fifth time since 2015. The game in Los Angeles averaged 7.51 million viewers on Fox, a decline of 9.7% from last year’s contest in Colorado. The audience peaked at 8.24 million between 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. EDT. The game was the most-watched program on television on Tuesday night and outdrew the other three all-star games that were played in February. The NFL’s Pro Bowl averaged 6.69 million on ABC, followed by the NBA and NHL all-star games. WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association Yesterday Chicago Sky 78, Seattle Storm 74 Sky 78, Storm 74 – Chicago wins 5th straight to clinch WNBA playoff spot Allie Quigley scored 18 points, Emma Meesseman had 16 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and the Chicago Sky beat the Seattle Storm 78-74 for their fifth straight victory. Chicago clinched a playoff spot with its 20th win of the season. Meesseman made a reverse layup to give Chicago a 76-72 lead and Kahleah Copper grabbed an offensive rebound on the Sky’s next possession before making 1 of 2 free throws for a five-point lead. After a timeout, Breanna Stewart made a driving layup with 10.7 seconds left to pull Seattle within three points, but Copper went 1 for 2 from the free-throw line at the other end. Copper finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for Chicago. Stewart led Seattle with 24 points. Tonight Indiana Fever at Las Vegas Aces, 10:00 p.m. WNBA – Rapinoe, King urge freedom for Brittney Griner at The ESPYS Detained WNBA star Brittney Griner was front and center at The ESPYS. Soccer star Megan Rapinoe admonished her fellow athletes for not doing enough to speak out while also encouraging them to support Griner. Griner was arrested in Russia in February after customs officials found vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage. She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. NBA Finals MVP and show host Stephen Curry joined WNBA players Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith in calling attention to Griner’s plight. Big Ten – Newsom wants explanation from UCLA about move to Big Ten California Gov. Gavin Newsom is demanding an explanation from UCLA officials about their move to the Big Ten Conference. Newsom attended Wednesday’s UC Board of Regents meeting in San Francisco. The closed-door meeting was the first since UCLA and Southern California announced on June 30 that the schools would be leaving the Pac-12 Conference for the Big Ten in 2024. USC is a private institution and not part of the UC system. Newsom — an ex officio member of the Board of Regents — is among others asking how the move will benefit all student-athletes, as well as how to mitigate the financial effects it will cause to UC Berkeley, California’s other public university in the Pac 12. NBA – AP source: Harden, 76ers agree on 2-year, $68 million deal James Harden has agreed to terms on a two-year contract to stay with the Philadelphia 76ers and will make about $14.5 million less this coming season than he could have earned under his previous deal, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said Wednesday. Harden will sign a deal worth slightly over $68 million, paying him about $33 million this season and with a $35 million player option for the 2023-24 season, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the deal. NBA – Hornets’ Bridges pleads not guilty to domestic violence Prosecutors say Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges has pleaded not guilty in Los Angeles to felony domestic violence charges after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend in front of their two children last month. The LA County district attorney says his office filed one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death. Bridges was arrested on June 29 by Los Angeles police and later released on $130,000 bond. NHL – Five women in NHL assistant GM jobs took different paths The five women who currently hold assistant general manager jobs around the NHL each took very different paths to the position. Vancouver’s Cammi Granato and Toronto’s Hayley Wickenheiser were Hall of Fame players. Wickenheiser got a medical degree while working in hockey. Granato did some broadcasting and scouting along the way. Émilie Castonguay was an NHLPA-certified agent for several years before joining the Canucks. Meghan Hunter worked her way up through the Chicago Blackhawks organization. And New Jersey’s Kate Madigan spent time as an accountant before switching careers to go into hockey. NCAA – Transfer portal windows endorsed for final NCAA approval Division I college football players would have two periods of time to enter the transfer portal and be immediately eligible to play if a proposed rule change gets final approval. The Division I Council endorsed several of the Transformation Committee’s initial proposals and passed them on to the D-I Board for approval. The council also moved along recommendations for expanding the benefits schools can provide athletes and concepts to improve the infractions process. Transfer portal entry windows would be set on a sport-by-sport basis. For football, there would be a 45 day-window starting in mid-December and another 15-day window that begins May 1. NCAA – Report: NCAA makes progress on gender inequality at tourneys The NCAA has adequately addressed nine of 23 recommendations for creating comparable NCAA Tournament experiences for men’s and women’s basketball players. That’s according to a progress report from a third party hired by the NCAA. A scathing report issued almost a year ago criticized the NCAA for the differences in how the men’s and women’s tournaments were administered and conducted. Among the most visible changes were “March Madness” branding and increased cross-promotion for both tournaments in 2022 and a “First Four” event for women to bring it into line with the men’s tournament. NCAA – ACC looking for ways to boost revenue, shrink financial gap Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner Jim Phillips says the league is looking for ways to boost its revenue and shrink a rising financial gap with leagues like the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference. That growing gap is stirring uncertainty about the league’s long-term future. Speaking Wednesday at the league’s preseason football media days, Phillips says “all options are on the table” and that the league is having regular conversations with ESPN on possible ways to enhance its TV deal through 2036. The league reported record revenues and distributed $36.1 million to member schools for the 2020-21 season. But the numbers lagged behind the Big Ten and SEC, leagues that are making aggressive expansion moves for future years. Golf – Stenson joins Saudi tour, removed as Ryder Cup captain Henrik Stenson is out as Ryder Cup captain for Europe. The European tour says decisions for his personal life go against the contract he signed to be captain four months ago. In the middle of it all is the Saudi-funded LIV Golf series. Stenson confirmed that he has agreed to play for LIV Golf. It’s a direct challenge to the European tour and Stenson effectively had to choose between being the Ryder Cup captain or taking guaranteed cash from a Saudi-funded league. Europe is now looking for a new captain.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dan Rosen and Shawn Roarke were joined by Amalie Benjamin (15:25), NHL.com's Boston-based staff writer, who discussed her recent visit to Vancouver to report on and write about the new-look Canucks' executive staff complete with Emilie Castonguay and Cammi Granato, the first two women assistant general managers in NHL history. Benjamin discussed her interviews with Castonguay and Granato along with conversations she had with Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin, the first Swedish GM in NHL history, and Jim Rutherford, Vancouver's president of hockey operations. Benjamin also discussed the Bruins (32:00), the team she covers most for NHL.com. She touched on the immediate questions about goalie Jeremy Swayman and how he will handle the pressure of the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs, and hit on the future of center Patrice Bergeron, who is 36 years old and can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Rosen and Roarke also had a breakdown of the race in the Western Conference (9:00), specifically the Pacific Division, and gave reasons why it's hard for them to believe in any team besides the Calgary Flames. They talked about goalie Marc-Andre Fleury's impact on the Minnesota Wild since his arrival in a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks (5:00). The Wild have won seven in a row, including five straight since Fleury got to Minnesota. The co-hosts also gave some thoughts on the news that came out of the NHL General Managers' meetings (56:00) this week and the passing of Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, who died Monday night. He was 62 years old (58:00).
The President of Hockey Operations for the Vancouver Canucks, Jim Rutherford, joined Matt and Blake for the first time. Talked about his early observations of managing a Canadian team. Was born in this country and loves it. Also loves living in the US. Canada is a special place, he doesn’t need to explain the sport to anyone here. Doesn’t have a whole lot of observations at this point. Just sees the passion from the fans during the games. Talked about where he thinks the team is. They are somewhere in between that initial winning streak and what they have been since new years. They don’t have as much depth and it has affected the team. Gives the players credit. Jim doesn’t talk to the players a whole lot. That is the coach’s job. Stays on top of everything, needs wise. No real direct connection. Talked to the captains when he first got here. Says the players voices are heard by their actions. Thinks it is important to let them continue down the road in this playoff race that they have gotten themselves back into. They need to get a bit younger and in a better spot in the cap. Talked about when they will be cup competitive. The advantage is that the Canucks have a franchise goalie. With the parody in this league, it is hard to get into the playoffs but once you get there anything can happen. Referenced Nashville in 2016. Can’t put a number on how many more skaters they need. He wants 4 lines they can roll through and not worry about which one is out there. That’s what they will work towards. Talked about the structure of the FO. Everyone will be able to do their job. Critical decisions, he will weigh in on. Will let everyone know what the downside is. He is there to help when they want the help. They have very good communicators. Wanted to hire the appropriate people and let them do their jobs. Will try to create as much cap space as they can. When you are working in a flat cap world there will be some very good deals that will present themselves. Will never be as much as they want it to be. Some tough decisions, maybe unpopular ones, will have to be made. Won’t want to be picking up bad money to make room for later years. Thinks he has a good handle of the cap but no more than anyone else around the league. Gets tricky with LTIR. That’s why they brought Emelie in. She has the experience working on the player and union side. Talked about Castonguay and Granato. He is very impressed with them. They want to be there and work hard. They are learning and willing to learn and work with other people. Broke down the draft structure. Todd Harvey reports to Cammi who reports to Patrik. There are a lot of good check points. Allvin can make the final decision but he works like Jim does. Says at some point we will see Rathbone at the NHL level this season. Talked about how much he loves the game. Our Friday regular, Rick Dhaliwal, joined Matt and Blake. Started off with where the Canucks are at with JT Miller. Says that it is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. They are being patient. Deadline is still a month away. GM was only hired 2 weeks ago. Media and fans need to be patient. Says internally they are having a tough time with Miller. What is the messaging to the dressing room if you trade him in a playoff race. The players all want to win. Talked about the potential of Boeser being on the move. Rick can understand why any team would be interested in a player like that. Talked about Jack Rathbone and the injury he sustained. He has an upper body injury, would think that it is a concussion. He was ok leaving the hospital. A lot of it was precautionary. Talked about when we may see the skate jersey. Talked about Steve Armitage. Our Canucks reporter, Jeff Paterson, joined us in his regular non-game day spot. Talked about our chat with Rutherford. Couldn’t believe he said he loves the media. Talked about Jack Rathbone and the conversations surrounding him in the front office. JPat doesn’t get the impression that JR is impressed by a few wins and these results. Talked about Demko. Talked about Miller. JPat not convinced that his price will ever be higher. Thinks that he is very much in play. Talked about the 50 game mark and the difference between Green and Boudreau. Rob Williams of the Daily Hive joined Matt and Blake in his regular Friday slot. Says that Canucks fans are demanding to know who won the belt. Talked about wrestling. Talked about when we will see the Skate jersey.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
An amazing (and lengthy!) episode with 1/2 of the From Center Ice Podcast team and a writer/editor of for women's sports. We welcomed Beth and Courtney into the Storm Cellar this week to talk about the hiring of Émilie Castonguay, in general about the intersection of women and hockey (as well as women in hockey). These two passionate fans talked about the Castonguay hiring, women in hockey including Olympics, ECHL, and the PHF, as well as their perspectives of being female fans. We give out some mid-season rankings and although they're Blackhawks fans, we can all agree on some Dougie Hamilton love. If you are someone, like us, who truly wishes to see hockey grow and who thinks that hockey should be for everyone, this is the one episode of ours you should listen to. You can find them on Twitter at @wonderbeffers and @vfcentericepod
The boys have a pretty direct conversation about the recent racist incidents that occurred in the American Hockey League and the ECHL over the course of the week. The NHL condemned the incidents and Kwame and Elijah Roberts share their thoughts on them. Elijah is pumped about the Vancouver Canucks most recent front-office hires and talks about his experience dealing with Émilie Castonguay. Plus, Kwame is excited for the upcoming Winter Olympics for one reason... what is it? Listen to find out.
The Hockey Writers Melissa Boyd, Hannah Garfield, and Mariah Stark discuss the latest news surrounding their respective teams, the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild. Plus, the ladies discuss Emilie Castonguay's hiring by the Vancouver Canucks, their Hart Trophy favourites at the halfway point of the 2021-22 season, and share how they would improve the All-Star Game. Thursday regular and Vancouver sportscaster, Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake. Started off talking about the 49ers win over the Packers. Talked about the other games it reminded him of. Talked about his thoughts on Patrik Allvin. Being Swedish alone is fitting enough. Ownership deserves credit for this. Knows they are spending money after they lured people away from other teams. Talked about Émilie Castonguay. Says the women being brought in isn’t tokenism. They are clearly qualified for the job. For her to leave what she was doing shows you that this is a very good opportunity. Talked about Ryan Johnson. Believes the Sedin’s would endorse a move up within the organization. Scotty sees a more prominent roll within the Canucks FO. Answered the poll question. A market has already established itself with JT Miller. He could fetch a haul. Talked about what he sees happening in the Canucks crease. Has seen enough from Martin that he could move ahead of Halak. Nothing against Jaro but there are financial implications. Talked about Michael Reilly. Didn’t have a good sense that he’d be back after the way the season ended. His body has taken a beating. Scotty has not seen a tougher QB in any league. He is as tough as anybody. Couldn’t believe he was getting up after some hits in EDM. He was a great leader there. He is a better person than a player. The player will likely find his way into the Hall of Fame. Talked about who will come into replace him in BC.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Darren Dreger, host of Ray and Dregs and NHL Insider, joined Matt and Blake in his regular Wednesday spot. Talked about Patrik Allvin and the fact they had to go through their process before naming him the GM. By all accounts, this is a really good hire. Those who know him, think he will be successful. Thinks that one more AGM will be added. Wouldn’t be surprised if it is another female. You might get into a game of semantics of title. The department in general will be bolstered. Not sure if up to three more but they will take their time. Talked about the work ahead of Kent Hughes in MTL after he was with the team the last week. Dregs thinks agents and GM’s have already reached out to JR and Allvin. Dregs talked about having never met him. After poking around and talking to agents, he learned that PA has been pretty active with them. Talked about some Russians that he might be looking at. Thinks he will be good at finding top Euro FA’s. Talked about Castonguay. Doesn’t think her chat with the Habs went all that far. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if more than the 2 teams had an eye on her services. Talked about the path forward for the Sedin twins. They could be involved in whatever way they want to be involved. Our Canucks Reporter and one half of the Rink Wide Podcast, Jeff Paterson joined us in his regular spot. Talked about the news of the day, in hiring Patrik Allvin. Talked about who could be the 3rd AGM. Ryan Johnson makes sense when you look at who the other two are and what they do. Talked about where they need to look first in-house as most important areas to look at. Player development certainly sticks out. Was glad to hear that a practice facility is back on board. Why it hasn’t happened, with everything that is downtown, is puzzling. Would be a great partnership with the community. JPat thinks the heat is going to turn up on Brock Boeser. He has been quiet since he returned from protocol. Thinks JT Miller or Boeser that one of them will be dealt by the deadline. Thinks that JR has an itch to put his stamp and give this team a makeover. Not just a nip and tuck. Talked about how Rutherford will go about the Jaro Halak bonus. Says you could tell Halak that he will sit. Spencer Martin has played well enough to get the 6 or 7 starts that a backup would play with Demko playing so well. Talked about Kyle Burroughs.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk joined Matt and Blake after an incredible Sunday of football. Thinks it was the greatest weekend in history. All games decided on the last play. The problem is it is all downhill from here. The Championship games will have a tough time living up to that. Talked about the OT rule in football after the Bills didn't get a chance to drive down the field after a KC TD. Charean told a story of when in 2018 PM didn't get a chance to get the ball in the playoffs and the Bills shot a rule change down. That game just left you wanting more. Maybe the Bills should have tried on onside kick. It was their best chance at a surprise. The game was over after they kicked off and PM got the ball. We all knew the Chiefs were going to go down the field and win. Talked about where QB's will want to go with all the young guns in the AFC. Thinks Josh Allen will get his chance to win a SB. It should have been on Sunday. He is good enough and so is the team. Feels that game was for the SB. Talked about Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Charean talked about the future of the two hall of famers. Something has changed to make Brady change his mind, having previously said he will for sure play. Many of his favourite players are FA's. Charean doesn't think he will go out the way he did. Doesn't think he will finish his career the way he did. The question is can they put enough good players around him to go out with another chance. Thinks that both will play with their respective teams next year. The Bengals truly believe that it's their time. It won't be a walk for the Chiefs. KC needs to get down to business. The biggest advantage for CIN is that KC is taxed after the Bills game. Our Canucks reporter, Jeff Paterson joined us fresh off the Émilie Castonguay presser. He was really impressed with her, always impressed with those that can handle their business in multiple languages. A very impressive person. Referenced how emotional she got when talking about her players. Talked about what EC laid out for her vision. It will be about bringing out the best in human performance. They have gotten away from that the last few years. Talked about what she will be doing in the front office. Could take the lead on contract negotiations. Talked about where the team is at with their GM search. Expecting there will be an announcement by the end of the week. Feels like it is Allvin’s job to lose. Talked about the situation on the ice and how they have navigated all the players going on Covid protocol. Giving the Canucks an A for effort. Coming out of the weekend with a single point is pretty much all they could do. Talked about the penalty kill not getting it done. They are the worst PK unit in the NHL. Talked about the goaltending situation and if they might have to go back to UBC for a backup. Talked about Doug Jarvis and his ironman streak being eclipsed. Yandle will equal the mark tonight. Kessel will also get there in 6 weeks. Incredible to think that Covid hasn’t gotten to him. John Shannon joined Matt and Blake for his regular Monday appearance. Started off talking about the hiring of Émilie Castonguay. John loved what she had to say when she said, “ if you do the work, you get the job.” She is just saying that she is the AGM and not just a woman. This goes back to the hiring of Jim Rutherford being a progressive thinker. He sees the game changing. Jim is a survivor and has a good sense on what is going on. He has always been thinking on the cutting edge. The moment he walked out of the PIT office he said to himself he will get back and he will be progressive. This is caterpillar to butterfly the last three months. Hiring the AGM before the GM makes you think that the Canucks were going to hire already and ran it by all the prospective candidates. Talked about hiring agents. It was telling to see her become emotional when talking about her clients. It says that she becomes fully entrenched in the job. We are seeing the growth and evolution of a front office.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

llets from an UZI submachine gun, wounding Jean-Paul Beaumont and killing Serge Beaudoin who died four hours later in a Sherbrooke hospital. We pick up after the coroner's process, the trial, and inquiry by the Quebec Police Commission. The three Sherbrooke police officers in question, Dion, Castonguay and Salvail were recommended for demotion for their actions, but kept their jobs, some were even promoted. The family of Serge Beaudoin took legal action, but never saw a penny in restitution. No one sent flowers or said they were sorry. For more information please visit the website: https://theresaallore.com/2021/12/25/bang-bang-knock-knock-the-rock-forest-massacre-part-3/
