Welcome to a special episode of Mentally Flexible with one of my favorite songwriters, Jake Klar. Have you ever had a song or album become the soundtrack to an important period of your life? That's exactly what happened to me with Jake Klar's music. It was 2015 and I had just graduated from college. With no idea of what was to come next in life, I loaded up my bike with some clothes and camping gear and started peddling north from Central CT. 300 miles and several baby wipe showers later, I made it to Burlington, VT. My first stop at then end of the day was usually a local bar with good beer and food which I could consume guiltlessly after burning more calories that day than I did in a typical week of normal life. The place I ended up that night was called Radio Bean, and to my pleasant surprise there was live music. This was different than your average bar performance (I would know because I would consider myself an average bar performer). This guy was something special. The songs instantly connected with me in a deeper place. That musician was Jake Klar, and he is is my guest today. For the remainder of my bike trip up through Canada, Jake's music became the soundtrack of this transformative life experience. At this point, I am not even sure the first time I met this guest, Mr. Eamonn. We were friends at ESPN, so I figure we met sometime around fall 2005. It's incredible to think that we've known each other 15 years at this point, and/or the fact that I'm almost 40 and he's over it. Since we met in Central CT, we've probably lived in a combined 10 places, and he's been in Hawaii and now back in Ireland. Life is weird. This is basically a discussion between friends and sometimes biz-type partners who belittle each other along the way, on topics ranging from God to data to sports to advertising to algorithms to relationships and back again. It's in line with a few episodes I've done where I catch up with old friends about the status of their life and belief structure at the moment, which I probably can't monetize that successfully, but hell, I think it has value. So, here we go. I think we're going to start with a Pope and religion discussion.

PGA Tour- Web Simpson wins the waste Management Phoenix Open at the Stadium Course in Scottsdale AZ this past weekend with a -17 and a Playoff hole over Tony Finau. Web Did card an Ace on #12 Saturday fro his third Ace all time on the 196yd par 3 where he used a 7 iron. This week, the PGA Heads to Pebble Beach for the Pro Am that is an awesome tournament where. Celebrities pare up with PGA Pros. This is where the Pros compete to win on an individual level and as a team with their chosen Celebrity . Watch out for Lefty, he has a knack to win this with his famous Morgan Dollar as his marker that only comes out at this tournament . Also, Lefty won’t accept a Excemption to the US Open if need be. He wants to qualify on his own. currently at #72 in the world snd #60 and up are automatically invited. The rest have to play in or have an exception . The likes of Jack use said exception 8 times. After this week the PGA got to the Genesis Open, WGC Mexico Championship , and the Puerto Open before hitting the FLA Swing. NCAA Hoops- Top 25. ( pull Stats) Pitt- had a loss, a quality loss tonight to ND. There Irish win 80-72. Pitt Hasn’t found a complete identity yet with their pattern of win 2 and lose 1 or lose two and win one. Coach Jeff Caple has done wonders with this program which has topped their win total over this season compared to last and has topped their ACC wins this season compared to the last 3. The Eers have Oklahoma , #3 Kansas , #1 Baylor, and TCU coming up. That is a pretty tough schedule , and I suspect that WVU takes at least 1 if not 2 losses coming up. Penguins- the Pens have been in Florida since Sunday Night and have had some fun times in the sun. The Pens play the Lightning tomorrow night and then the Panthers on Saturday with some more time in FL to have some fun before heading back to Pittsburgh for 4 home games with the Lightning, Habs, Wings, and Leafs. The Trade deadline is looming and we all know that Jim Rutterford will make some kind of move. Its just a matter of what. The team is clicking on all cylinders and looking to make a strong push into the Playoffs . Pirates- the Pirates truck has headed to Bradenton and Pitchers and Catchers report next week to begin workouts . The team has traded Starling Marte for some guys we won’t be ready for a few seasons. The Pirates have a below 50 million payroll and are projected by many relative sites and sports personalities to finish last in the division if not MLB and have 100 losses or more out of 162 games. MLB- the Trades have been flying and a big one yesterday with the Boston Red Sox trading Mookie Betts, and David Price to the Dodgers, in Return with OF Alex Verdugo Pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol from the Twins recieve Kenta Meada from the dodgers. Dodgers also trade Joc Pederson OF to Angles for 2b/ss Luis Rengifo. Watch for more MLB Trades before the season kicks off, tho, most won’t be this major. Before we know it, Spring training games will be on TV every day. Steelers- GM, Kevin Colbert was signed for another year through the 2021 draft. The Steelers have a lot of off season decisions to make especially at the QB Department . There are lots of good if not great QBs out there on the Market . Likes of Jacoby Brisette, Phillip Rivers, Marcus Mariota, Brew Brees, Tom Brady, Ryan Tannehill, to name a-few . Also he Steelers need to look into the draft and fill holes in the Linebacker and D line area as well as RB and WR. Well Retirement is making him “crawl out of his skin”he said and was hired to take over the Mt Lebanon FB Coaching position, Mike Melnyk resigned after a 44-31 record and only 6 playoff appearances in 7 years. Steelers- The AB an Bell Saga continues. AB didn’t show up for court today for his reckless driving issues, also formally requested a trade or his release. The Steelers are thinking about applying the Transition tag on Bell to try to get something in return for him, or have an option to sign him for less. Also Breaking, James Harrison thinks he can make a serious run at acting. Watch out The Rock PGA Tour- Last weekends Pebble Beach ProAm went to Monday morning to finish the last two holes due to darkness. Michelson came away with a 3 stroke lead for his 44th career win and his 5th in the ProAm. This week the Genesis Open at Riviera Golf Club in the Pacific Palisades CA to start Thursday. Tiger, Rory, and Justin Thomas paired together Thursday and Friday. Pitt Hoops- Took a loss to NC State, Pitt was in the game the whole way. They overcame a 18 point deficit at one point with a 20-2 run. Pitt had BC tonight and ??? WVU Hoops- is also having a tough down year with 6 losses in a row, 2-9 Conference and 10-14 overall. Duquesne Hoops- 7-4 Conference 16-8 overall took a loss to the Bonnies, a win over Fordham, and have LaSalle tomorrow night. They are 5th in the Conference Bobby Mo- had a nice win over Bryant, took a loss to Central CT, and have Mt St Marys on Thursday, they lead the Northeast Conference 89-4 13-12 overall with St Francis on their heals. Penguins- the Pens have dropped 4 out of last 5 with a nice complete game against the Flyers last night. Malkin got heated after a punch to back of his neck and swung his stick and had a meeting today with the NHL. Letang Now leads all Pens D men with Most Goals surpassing Paul Coffee. The Pens find themselves in 4th in the division and 8th in the Conference. Pirates- Pitchers and Catchers reported, Melky Cabrera signed a Minor league deal with over 2 mill in incentives, Cervelli Trade talks and he just shuts it out and plays, Liriano is looking to make the big club, and willing to accept any role, last 2 seasons was used as a reliever. Garth Brooks in Camp- 20th anniversary of Teammates for kids Foundation. The Foundation gives kids around the world a even start in life. Works with several sports athletes but it all started with baseball and Jason Kendal when he was with the Padres. Garth was a Clemente fan as a kid which made him a pirates fan, he realized the Clemente died trying to help kids and people in his a homie country, he vowed to at some point in his life to help kids through baseball.
