If I wrote fun titles for these podcasts, I just might name this one, “Claire Chubbuck is awesome.” Because Claire is freaking awesome! It's Tuesday, June 11th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Colorado Christian baker dragged into court again Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys will be back in the Colorado Supreme Court next week in defense of Jack Phillips. The Christian baker has been under attack by homosexual activists since 2017. This time, an attorney filed a lawsuit for Phillips' refusal to bake a cake celebrating a pseudo-gender transition. So far, 23 states, 6 Colorado legislators, and several free-speech advocates filed friend-of-the-court briefs in support of Phillips. Christian widow in India fears for her life A widow from India's Chhattisgarh State witnessed her husband's killing for his Christian faith last month. And now she fears for her own life and remains in hiding. Jime Kawasi herself was treated at a hospital after the mob attack which included 20 villagers. In an interview with Morning Star News, she said, “I want to continue to follow and serve Jesus. It was for this Jesus that my husband was willing to be faithful to the point of death; I too will follow in his footsteps. Please pray for me. I need your prayers.” Is France moving right? Could France be migrating away from its leftist positions? French President Emmanuel Macron announced new elections to take place on June 30 and July 7. Elections held over the weekend indicate that the right-leaning opposition party, National Rally, has gained some ground. Both Italy and Germany leaned right over the most recent weekend elections as well. Federal judge: No requirement for prescription for Abortion Pill An American federal judge struck down a North Carolina law limiting the distribution of the Abortion Kill Pill Mifepristone, reports The Associated Press. The order issued last week removes the requirement of a doctor's prescription for the pills, as well as the disallowance of mailing the pill. U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles wrote that the North Carolina law, Senate Bill 20, was in unlawful conflict with the authority of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Tony Evans stepped down over sin Author and pastor Tony Evans has announced to his Dallas, Texas church he will be stepping down from ministry due to sin. In a statement released on the Oak Cliff Bible Church website, Evans said, “When we fall short of that standard due to sin, we are required to repent and restore our relationship with God. A number of years ago, I fell short of that standard. I am, therefore, required to apply the same biblical standard of repentance and restoration to myself that I have applied to others. “While I have committed no crime, I did not use righteous judgment in my actions. In light of this, I am stepping away from my pastoral duties and am submitting to a healing and restoration process established by the elders. This will afford me a needed time of spiritual recovery and healing.” Southern Baptists debate whether women should pastor churches The Southern Baptist convention convenes this week in Indianapolis, Indiana. At issue is a proposed amendment forbidding women pastors. Southern Baptist President J.D. Greer has registered his opposition to the amendment because of its effect on minority churches who refer to some women in their congregations as pastors. Dr. Albert Mohler has affirmed his support for the amendment. Listen. MOHLER: “Some churches are quite honestly, straightforwardly telling us that they are basically out of sync with the Southern Baptist Convention on the issue of women preaching and women holding a pastoral office. … “It's really important we recognize that this is an issue of Biblical obedience. This is not just a question of Biblical interpretation. And the moment we begin defining some issues as just matters of Biblical interpretation, the question becomes well, ‘Which are those?' Obviously, the liberal Protestant denominations have put basically everything in that category. I think Southern Baptists know better than that.” 1 Timothy 3:1-2 instructs us that “This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior…” Trump's guilty verdict has not affected polls The guilty verdict for Donald Trump in that Manhattan court room has not affected the polls any. The most recent Quinnipiac University poll taken in the critical swing state of Georgia found that 22 percent of voters were less likely to vote for President Trump after the verdict, and 23 percent were more likely to vote for him. The former president is still ahead in Georgia by 5 percentage points. Exactly 50 percent of those polled agreed with the verdict. Wheel of Fortune's Pat Sajak retires AUDIO: “Wheel of Fortune.” After 8,000 episodes and 41 seasons, Pat Sajak has said goodbye to the game show “Wheel of Fortune.” SAJAK: “Well, the time has come to say goodbye. I have a few thanks and acknowledgements before I go. And I want to start with all of you watching out there. It's been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes night after night, year after year, decade after decade. And I've always felt that the privilege came with a responsibility to keep this daily half hour a safe place for family fun, no social issues, no politics, nothing embarrassing I hope, just a game. “But gradually, it became more than that. A place where kids learn their letters, where people from other countries hone their English skills, where families came together along with friends and neighbors and entire generations. “What an honor to have played even a small part in all that. Thank you for allowing me into your lives.” Sajak's final episode ends this Friday. Pat Sajak is also chairman of the board of trustees for the conservative Hillsdale College. 6-year-old girl trusted Christ before deadly accident Fox News reports on a 6-year-old New Jersey girl who died after a freak accident. Tragically, Lucy Morgan was impaled in the head by a flying shard from a broken badminton racket. Her father, Jesse Morgan, a pastor at Green Pond Bible Chapel in Rockaway, New Jersey, testified that, "Four weeks ago [Lucy] asked . . . how to be with God and be saved.” Her mother explained the way of salvation. “She went to her room and prayed to God to forgive her. She believed in Jesus' death and resurrection." Fox News carried a portion of Lucy's prayer journal: “God is so amazing. He is the true God, and He died on the cross for our sins.” Be sure to check out the full story, the heart-rending, powerful testimony about Lucy's death at Jesse Morgan's blog site which we have linked through our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. Julie started as a representative for a major wine player in America. I thought she would never make it. Oops. She became an executive in the trade. Incredible conversation. 1.) Julie Hernandez had a "light bulb" moment about the power of wearing a suit in a male-dominated business setting, which positively impacted her career trajectory. 2. Despite being experienced and holding a high-level position, Julie was frequently underestimated by male colleagues, sometimes mistaken for being in a lower role. 3. Paul K shared a personal experience from the 1980s, reflecting on encountering sexism in corporate America. 4. Julie discussed the importance of competitive spirit sourced from being an athlete and an actor, mentioning the Chubbuck acting methodology which emphasizes winning. More thoughts: In this enlightening episode of "Wine Talks," host Paul K delves deep into conversation with Julie Hernandez, touching on various topics from her illustrious career in the wine and spirits industry to the personal challenges she faced balancing work and family life. Julie shared her early days in the field and how she navigated a male-dominated industry with strategic decisions like wearing high heels to ensure she was at eye level with her male counterparts. She emphasized the importance of building strong relationships based on trust and mutual respect to succeed in sales, and discussed the transition from chain work to on-premise sales at restaurants. Both Paul and Julie reflected on the evolution of corporate America, discussing gender equity and how personal experiences in the 1980s compare to today's more discreet challenges. Julie was also open about the sacrifices she made, feeling married to her job while rising through ranks from a sales representative to a director of sales. Ultimately, she chose her personal well-being and family over her demanding role, underlining themes of work-life balance and the importance of being present for one's family. Through their conversation, Julie and Paul encapsulated the spirit of perseverance, adaptability, and the sheer importance of ethics and commitment in both personal and professional walks of life. They closed with thoughts on the ongoing changes in the industry, especially due to COVID-19, underscoring the need for continuous adaptability and relationship-building in the business world.

On this episode the Founder of Cathartic Realism Films Claire Chubbuck stops by to share her amazing story of how to turn Tragedy into Purpose. Claire shares some of the unique projects she's working on and her views on the Metaverse. Don't miss this special episode. Who is Claire Chubbuck? Claire Chubbuck is an emerging female director that creates mission driven content that creates catharsis for those working on it - she calls it “Cathartic Realism”. Cathartic Realism is a genre where artists tell the story of their personal traumas to find healing through catharsis. A take on the “true story” trope, this genre allows artists to depict their truths - the way it felt to them, but with an ending where you win for the purpose of cathartic release. The only way we can let it go is to feel it. She works with actors to use the traumatic events in their lives to make art. Born in Los Angeles, California, Claire Chubbuck is the daughter of internationally celebrated acting coach, Ivana Chubbuck, and award-winning director/producer, the late Lyndon Chubbuck. After going to Scripps College in 2007 for Economics, she graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with honors (recipient of the Founders Award) and a BFA in Filmmaking in 2012. Straight out of the gate she worked at AMC Networks as a Programming and Scheduling executive. While working there, Claire began creating short form content for SundanceTV's International channels that was broadcast worldwide. In 2013, Claire worked as a producer on “Pussy Riot: The Movement”, the first comprehensive film that tells the full story - from arrest through release from prison and beyond - of the remarkable women who defied a strongman, survived Russian prisons and rallied the world behind them. The documentary also examines the perversion of the Russian Constitution by ex-KGB officer and President Vladimir Putin. In 2014, Claire moved to Participant Media, whose films include Good Night, and Good Luck, Syriana, An Inconvenient Truth, Food, Inc., Waiting for ‘Superman', The Help, Contagion and Lincoln. There she worked to launch a linear television network, Pivot. In 2015, Claire found her fiancé dead of tragic circumstances and, in one second, everything changed. Since then, she has been trying to help other people find an explanation for their traumas - enough to move forward without shame - with a unique community of artists that want to create. She found this community when she began teaching at Ivana Chubbuck Studios. As a teacher, she has found great pleasure in being part of inspiring others, many to great success. After spending time teaching, Claire reemerged with a new directorial debut in 2019 with ‘how I lost my virginity', a short film detailing her best friend's real-life experience of kidnapping and rape - intended to provide catharsis while looking at the systematic problem that allow for the victims of sexual assault to far outweigh the perpetrators. In 2020, “how I lost my virginity” won over 17 awards and was shown at several high-profile film festivals including Beverly Hills Film Festival, Chain Film Festival, Santa Monica International Film Festival, SF Indie Fest, Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, Marina del Rey Film Festival, among others. Claire personally won “Best Direction” at the Best Shorts Competition in addition “Best First Time Director” at Canadian Cinematography Awards, New York Cinematography Awards (NYCA), and Top Shorts Awards. The first theatrical showing of the short was at Marina del Rey Film Festival, where the short won the Audience Award for “Best Short”. During the quarantine of 2021, Claire made an experimental film called (Corona) Viral Monologues, which had it's theatrical premiere at the Chinese Theater as part of the Silicon Beach Film Festival, where we were awarded the Audience Award for Best Narrative Short. This hour long special won “Best Artistic Film” at the Atlanta Award-Qualifying Film Festival 2022, “Best Narrative” at the Washington Film Festival, was a semi-finalist for “Best Ensemble” and “Best Experimental Film” at the Los Angeles Film Awards, and was an official selection for the Global Indie Film Awards. Claire also won Vegas Movie Award's Prestige Award for “Best Female Filmmaker” for this film. Claire currently has 2 short films in post-production, 2 short films in pre-production, and a feature film in development. This week, in Chubbuck, Idaho, two young men, seeking the infamy of their serial killer heroes for themselves, they set out to make a mark on the world, with murder. Luckily for police, they brazenly document most of their own thoughts, actions, and confessions on video, that is found after the boys finally go too far, and commit a senseless, and brutal killing. This one is extra crazy! Along the way, we find out that people in Idaho don't seem to like Idaho, that you probably shouldn't video incriminating things, and that Ed Gein might not be the best role model for the youth!! Network is a 1976 American satirical drama film written by Paddy Chayefsky and directed by Sidney Lumet, about a fictional television network, UBS, and its struggle with poor ratings. The film stars Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Peter Finch and Robert Duvall and features Wesley Addy, Ned Beatty and Beatrice Straight. The film won four Academy Awards, in the categories of Best Actor (Finch), Best Actress (Dunaway), Best Supporting Actress (Straight) and Best Original Screenplay (Chayefsky). In 2000, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". In 2002, it was inducted into the Producers Guild of America Hall of Fame as a film that has "set an enduring standard for American entertainment".[3] In 2005, the two Writers Guilds of America voted Chayefsky's script one of the 10 greatest screenplays in the history of cinema.[4][a] In 2007, the film was 64th among the 100 greatest American films as chosen by the American Film Institute, a ranking slightly higher than the one AFI had given it ten years earlier. Faye Dunaway as Diana Christensen William Holden as Max Schumacher Peter Finch as Howard Beale Robert Duvall as Frank Hackett Wesley Addy as Nelson Chaney Ned Beatty as Arthur Jensen Beatrice Straight as Louise Schumacher Jordan Charney as Harry Hunter William Prince as Edward Ruddy Lane Smith as Robert McDonough Marlene Warfield as Laureen Hobbs Conchata Ferrell as Barbara Schlesinger Carolyn Krigbaum as Max's secretary Arthur Burghardt as the Great Ahmet Khan Cindy Grover as Caroline Schumacher Darryl Hickman as Bill Herron Lee Richardson as the Narrator (voice) Lance Henriksen as Network lawyer (uncredited) Network came only two years after the first on-screen suicide in television history, of television news reporter Christine Chubbuck in Sarasota, Florida.[6][dead link] The anchorwoman was suffering from depression and loneliness, was often emotionally distant from her co-workers, and shot herself on camera as stunned viewers watched on July 15, 1974. Chayefsky used the idea of a live death as his film's focal point, saying later in an interview, "Television will do anything for a rating ... anything!" However, Dave Itzkoff's book Mad as Hell: The Making of Network and the Fateful Vision of the Angriest Man in Movies disputes that Chayefsky was inspired by the Chubbock case, asserting that Chayefsky actually began writing Network months before Chubbuck's death and already planned for Howard Beale to vow to kill himself on air, and that Chubbuck's suicide was simply an eerie parallel.[7] Sidney Lumet also confirmed that the character of Howard Beale was never based on any real life person.[8] Still, the Chubbuck case is mentioned in Chayefsky's screenplay.[citation needed] Before beginning his screenplay, Chayefsky visited network TV offices. Sitting in on meetings at CBS and NBC, he noted "the politics, the power struggles, the obsession with ratings."[9] He was also surprised to learn that television executives did not watch much television. "The programs they put on 'had to' be bad," he said, "had to be something they wouldn't watch. Imagine having to work like that all your life."[10] According to Dave Itzkoff, what Cheyefsky saw while writing the screenplay during the midst of Watergate and the Vietnam war was all the anger of America being broadcast in everything from sitcoms to news reports. He concluded that Americans "don't want jolly, happy family type shows like Eye Witness News" ... "the American people are angry and want angry shows."[11] When he began writing his script he had intended on a comedy, but instead poured his frustration at the broadcasts being shown on television, which he described as "an indestructible and terrifying giant that is stronger than the government" — into the screenplay. It became a "dark satire about an unstable news anchor and a broadcasting company and a viewing public all too happy to follow him over the brink of sanity."[11] The character of network executive Diana Christiansen was based on NBC daytime television programming executive Lin Bolen,[12] which Bolen disputed.[13] Chayefsky and producer Howard Gottfried had just come off a lawsuit against United Artists, challenging the studio's right to lease their previous film, The Hospital, to ABC in a package with a less successful film. Despite this recent lawsuit, Chayefsky and Gottfried signed a deal with UA to finance Network, until UA found the subject matter too controversial and backed out. Undeterred, Chayefsky and Gottfried shopped the script around to other studios, and eventually found an interested party in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Soon afterward, United Artists reversed itself and looked to co-finance the film with MGM, since the latter had an ongoing distribution arrangement with UA in North America. Since MGM agreed to let UA back on board, the former (through United Artists as per the arrangement) controlled North American/Caribbean rights, with UA opting for overseas distribution.

Sonnet to Winter by Emily Chubbuck Judson Thy brow is girt, thy robe with gems inwove; And palaces of frost-work, on the eye, Flash out, and gleam in every gorgeous dye, The pencil, dipped in glorious things above, Can bring to earth. Oh, thou art passing fair! But cold and cheerless as the heart of death, Without one warm, free pulse, one softening breath, One soothing whisper for the ear of Care. Fortune too has her Winter. In the Spring, We watch the bud of promise; and the flower Looks out upon us at the Summer hour; And Autumn days the blessed harvest bring; Then comes the reign of jewels rare, and gold, When brows flash light, but hearts grow strangely cold. ----- Prosodia is a daily podcast dedicated to historical notes and poems, hosted by Karim El Azhari. Happy Thanksgiving! In this episode, I offer advice for deepening a holiday that often veers far from gratitude. Then I speak with a dear student of mine who has a lot of yoga training and a practice that she uses to find happiness in her professional life. Elizabeth Chubbuck is a New York City business professional with a long-standing yoga practice. After studying at Trinity College in CT, she spent 4 years working for Hearst Magazines at Cosmopolitan and Good Housekeeping. Her side interest in gourmet cheese led her to Murray’s Cheese shop in Greenwich Village where she spent nearly 3 years volunteering in their classroom, and eventually accepting a job there. She is currently the Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Murray’s Cheese. Through her professional journey, Elizabeth has consistently turned to yoga as a way to find space, and joy, which helps her in all the areas of her life. What does it mean to tell somebody else's story? In this ingenious blend of documentary and psychological thriller, Robert Greene (ACTRESS) follows Kate Lyn Sheil (House of Cards, LISTEN UP PHILIP) through her creative process as she prepares for her next, tragic role: Christine Chubbuck, the Florida newscaster who committed suicide live on-air in 1974. As Kate investigates (and ultimately becomes obsessed with) Chubbuck's story, she discovers that little is actually known about the real woman (despite the urban myth that her story was the inspiration for the classic Hollywood film NETWORK). Through their collaboration, Robert, Kate and cinematographer Sean Price Williams (HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT) raise questions surrounding the sometimes unstable boundaries between performance, the authentic self and the storytelling impulse. Winner of a Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, KATE PLAYS CHRISTINE is as much about unraveling a mystery as it is a document of the creative process. Director Robert Greene joins us for a conversation on blurring the line between documentaries and narrative films, just what did he learn about Christine Chubbuck’s life and how has making KATE PLAYS CHRISTINE changed his approach to storytelling.
