CLIMBers, a value shift is underway in the marketplace with artists moving equity and income away from traditional music companies (i.e., labels) and keeping it with the creators and their teams. Merck Mercuriatis, the founder of Hipgnosis, is behind this movement with a new venture that is all about artists and managers making the majority of the money rather than the labels. Mercuriadis has hundreds of millions of investment capital behind him. What does this mean for the labels? What does this mean for songwriters? And what does it mean for you? That's what we're going to talk about right here on The CLIMB. CLICK HERE to read the Digital Music News article. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

After working with thousands of sport climbers, I've noticed a pattern of climbers getting stuck at around 11c, then 12b, and again at 13a. One of the hallmarks of routes at these grade bottlenecks is that it gets harder to find stable positions. The climber who hopes to move further will need to be comfortable in that instability. And while it's tempting to think that getting stronger is always the answer, in reality it's only part of the equation... Read the rest on the blog! Recent headlines report that British climbers reached the summit of Mount Everest in record time after using xenon gas as part of their pre-acclimatization strategy. But what is xenon, and does it truly enhance performance at altitude? We dive into the science behind this noble gas, its effects on the body, and whether it could be a game-changer—or just hype—for mountaineers pushing the limits in thin air. Doping with xenon is likely not the answer.

In this episode, we dismantle the victim mindset and challenge leaders to stop blaming the terrain and start owning the path. Principle 4 of the Sherpa Code is a call to radical responsibility: You are the cavalry. Start acting like it.

Obe Carrion is the guest of this episode of the Climbing Business Journal podcast, hosted by John Burgman. Obe has long been one of the biggest names in the game as a pro climber. Over the years, he has worked with multiple brands, and he's been in multiple climbing films, including the 1998's Free Hueco! and 1999's Rampage. He has been a coach, a mentor, and through all of the evolutions he has remained a force of nature in the climbing industry. John and Obe talk about Obe's career and psych in climbing: how psych is never a constant, but how there can be value in it as an unknown, and in the way that motivation comes and goes and then comes back again eventually. Obe also reflects on climbing in the 1990s, the filming of that famous Rampage documentary—in which Chris Sharma stole the show at an X Games in San Francisco on this day, 26 years ago—hanging with Sharma, coaching the next generation, and evolving with the times. Welcome to the first episode of a special new focus for the HeySue Podcast: the Never Ask for the Sale Series. These new episodes are inspired by the September 2025 launch of Sue Heilbronner's newest book, Never Ask for the Sale: Supercharge Your Business with the Power of Passionate Ambivalence. Never Ask is based on the philosophy or sales technique Sue calls “passionate ambivalence,” the freedom to be as passionate as you are about a possible sale and equally unattached to whether you close any specific business. Sue argues in Never Ask that executing on this mindset will propel the success of solopreneurs, startup founders, service providers, company account executives, and anyone who is selling or influencing in a context that depends primarily on themself. The Never Ask series will focus on sellers, founders and CEOs Sue believes exhibit features of passionate ambivalence in their approach to selling and growing their companies. Kevin Brown left corporate America and cofounded (with Keah Kalantari) a sports chalk company called Friction Labs a decade ago. There is a lot of talk these days about category creation. Friction Labs didn't create the category of chalk for, say, rock climbing, but it did create the notion that professional and amateur climbers alike could have better climbing chalk. Friction Labs took a generic category and made it differentiated through pure innovation in both the product, branding, and positioning. In the pod, Kevin talks about how he started this journey, by offering a risk-free way for influential climbers to literally get their hands on Friction Labs chalk. It worked. Climbers loved the product, and sponsored athletes quickly led to a major full-chain rollout of the product line at REI followed by a number of global retailers. A key to the company's growth is Kevin's full alignment between this product category and his love of climbing (Kevin is a serious climber and bouldering club owner). He is as passionate an entrepreneur as I've ever met. His ambivalence shows up in the money-back guarantee he has used since Day 1. He has told climbers, gymnasts, golfers, tennis players, and major retailers that if they don't like the product, or if the product doesn't sell, he will offer a full no-questions-asked refund. He's had to do this almost not at all. If you love sports. If you love sweating outside. If you love from-the-heart selling, you'll love this episode, here and on YouTube. You can order Never Ask for the Sale at www.heysue.com/preorder. Get chalked for your next sweaty adventure at www.frictionlabs.com. In this episode of The Virtual Velo Podcast, co-hosts Emma Martin and Chris Schwenker sit down with grimpeur extraordinaire Illi Gardner—multi-time British and European Hill Climb Champion, two-time Everesting world record holder, and the 2024 Zwift Games Climb Champion. With over 10,000 climbing QOMs to her name, including iconic climbs like Ventoux, Tourmalet, Galibier, Zoncolan, Stelvio, and Madone, Illi has redefined what it means to be a pure climber in both the real and virtual worlds.Illi tells us which climb is harder—Alpe d'Huez or Alpe du Zwift—whether she was relieved when Demi Vollering didn't take her crown during the 2024 Tour de France Femmes, and if she's worried her Col de la Madeleine record will fall on this year's queen stage. We break down the life and process of the world's pre-eminent summit sniper—and contemplate whether her dominance on the steepest slopes puts her in the conversation as the best pure climber of the modern era, or if the lack of a pro palmarès closes the door on that debate.Don't miss out on the unique opportunity to delve even deeper into the intriguing topics discussed in this episode.Elite Eracer Illi Gardner—No Special Effects Required in Her Stunning Performance [Zommunique, Apr 24, 2022]A True QOM—Former Professional Cyclist Illi Gardner Breaks Down What It Takes To Win the Zwift Games! Scientists think they might have found a planet that is "brimming with life," and we're pretty sure whoever lives there is way smarter than earthlings. We learn about a climber who had to be rescued twice in one week because he forgot his phone on the mountain. And we discuss a vintage story about a hiker who was lost and couldn't be rescued because when first responders called him he didn't pick up because he didn't recognize the number. We debate whether it was appropriate for a tennis player to tell her opponent to put on deodorant. We discuss the Oklahoma City bombing documentary, and how hearing the stories of the survivors helped portray the scope of loss. Susie is worried about a kind of hornet that is making its home in her town, and Sarah thinks they might be government drones or psyops. A town in Finland calls itself the home of Santa, but residents are fed up with all the tourists. We consider the backlash about tourism around the world and what's really driving it.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:Cancel your unwanted subscriptions and reach your financial goals faster at https://rocketmoney.com/braincandyVisit https://shopbeam.com/braincandy and use code BRAINCANDY to get our exclusive discount of up to 35% off.For 50% off your order, head to https://www.dailylook.com and use code BRAINCANDYGet 40% off your first box PLUS get a free item in every box for life.
