Kim Ades delves into the transformative power of journaling, comparing it to navigating darkness with a guiding light. Her journal-based coaching approach helps clients unearth deep-seated beliefs, challenge negative self-talk, disrupt patterns, and achieve rapid, remarkable, and lasting growth. In each episode of Neuroscience of Coaching, host Dr. Irena O'Brien explains the science-based insights behind a particular concept and interviews a coach to discuss how these apply in the real world. Just as she does in her professional programs, Irena “un-complicates” neuroscience and teaches practical, evidence-based tools and strategies that listeners can use in their coaching practices.“And so my journal was central to my healing, was central to my dealing with my emotions, dealing with my feelings of sadness, of failure, all of those things.” — Kim AdesGuest Bio:Kim Ades, MBA, is a serial entrepreneur who, after a decade running a simulation-based assessment firm, sold her company and briefly worked for a local coaching company. She left after 8 months, believing she could offer better coaching. Kim felt the prevailing coaching model was flawed, intuitively realizing that driven leaders needed to understand the link between their thoughts and outcomes rather than being “held accountable.”In 2004, Kim founded Frame of Mind Coaching®, focusing on helping leaders maximize their potential and live fulfilling lives. She also created the Frame of Mind Coaching® Certification program to teach leaders effective coaching techniques. As a pioneer in journal-based coaching, Kim is also the creator of two supporting online platforms — JournalEngine® and The Journal That Talks Back.®Host Bio:Dr. Irena O'Brien teaches coaches and care professionals how to achieve better results for their clients through neuroscience. She is the founder of Neuroscience School, which helps practitioners understand and apply insights from cutting-edge neuroscience research. She loves seeing her students gain confidence in their ability to evaluate neuroscience findings and use them successfully in their own practices. Her Certificate Program in Neuroscience is certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) for Continuing Coaching Education credit.Dr. O'Brien has studied neuroscience for 25 years and holds a Ph.D. in the field from the Université du Quebec à Montréal (UQAM), where she did brain-imaging studies. When it comes to the transference of knowledge to the learners in your programs and events, being a good facilitator is just as important (if not more so!) as being an expert in your field. The trick is, many experts feel like they're doing a great job at facilitation when, in fact, they're….not.Today we're reviewing the mistakes you don't even know you're making when you're ‘unconsciously competent' at your craft. Engagement is such an important part of whether or not your learners are achieving the outcomes you've promised them - a HUGE factor in their decision to stick with you for the long-game. Listen in as Steve Corney walks us through an elevated learner engagement strategy designed to increase participation in events like you've never seen before – the holy grail that every course designer is after. Quick overview of what we cover:What to do when you ask for audience participation/engagement and it's a no-goWhy it's short-sighted to assume that authority and thought leadership and unique perspective outweigh facilitator ability How to decide when to deliver content statically vs dynamicallyWhy how you make your future learners feel in the beginning MATTERS a ton (your knowledge alone won't cut it if you're trying to sell something)How to use learner feedback to know whether you're nailing the balance of expertise vs. facilitationThe best vehicle to deliver info to prevent zoom fatigue How to use ‘signposting' in your event to deliver a pitch with integrityWhat you can fall back on when your facilitator magic runs outThe number one sign that gives away peak engagementThe most strategic balance between teaching and engaging CHECK OUT STEVE + ADRIANE'S PROJECT: Click here to get on the waitlist for our program launchFollow us: @servicedrivenscalingLISTEN TO MORE EPISODES WITH STEVE:Episode 45, How Bro Marketers Have Destroyed Digital Learning Episode 55, Marketing With Integrity in a Post-Bropocalypse World Episode 63, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel, Part 1Episode 73, Trust Isn't Enough to Sell Courses or Group Coaching Programs...Episode 74, Delivering Outcomes With Mad Respect...Make More Money + Sales with your Established Course or Coaching: Episode 76, part 1; Episode 78, part 2; Episode 80, part 3RESOURCES: Click here to join Adriane's $7 Marketing Strategy MembershipClick here to get on the waitlist for Sustainable Growth LabClick here to work with Adriane and the Soulpreneur AgencyBook a call with Soulpreneur to grow your businessCONNECT W/ STEVE: Instagram: @steve_corneyLinkedIn: @thisisstevecorney

Ever wondered how to make your marketing more effective or what words to avoid when crafting a compelling sales page headline? Well, today we have an episode that...at least intended to cover these marketing principles exclusively.Instead - we get into something even more valuable.Listen in as Adriane sets out to walk Steve through some of her suggestions for his latest sales page. Progress Over Perfection Coaching is a podcast focused on career management and development by offering insight on how to build an intentionally balanced and purpose-filled career. It's been a little longer than normal since our last episode - actually a bit longer than I would have liked. To be honest, it's because there have been some other things going on in life that have taken my attention and energy away from this podcast. After I missed my normal cadence for posting an episode (targeting every 2 weeks), I got pretty down on myself, and started to feel pressure mounting like I was failing at something. That got me thinking - why do I feel bad about this? Why did I find myself so stressed over "falling behind" on a self-imposed cadence that clearly wasn't sustainable, given everything else going on in my life? In the spirit of embracing oscillation, here are some tips and approaches for how you can incorporate this idea into your own career, to frame up how you spend your energy, where you spend it, and why it's important to you.-----------------------------------------------------------------------Past episodes referenced: Introduction to Ikigai: https://rss.com/podcasts/prgscoach/611277/Internal Drivers of Ikigai: https://rss.com/podcasts/prgscoach/615969/External Drivers of Ikigai: https://rss.com/podcasts/prgscoach/622856/Setting Your Career Destination: https://rss.com/podcasts/prgscoach/622949/Put Your Plan to Work: https://rss.com/podcasts/prgscoach/653435/-----------------------------------------------------------------------Other Podcasts I referenced in the episode:Hidden Brain "Success 2.0: The Obstacles You Don't See" https://hiddenbrain.org/podcast/work-2-0-the-obstacles-you-dont-see/ The Art of Coaching "Episode 273: https://artofcoaching.com/e273/-----------------------------------------------------------------------More information about Progress Over Perfection Coaching can be found at:https://prgscoach.com/https://app.delenta.com/ta/@prgscoachhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/progress-over-perfection-coaching/-----------------------------------------------------------------------Intro and Outro music:Music: Right Ways [Original Mix] by Imperss is licensed under a Creative Commons License. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... Confession time: I'm super nosy. I love to see what other people do with their days and weeks, especially those who are closer to the dream life I have for myself. And though I strongly believe that you shouldn't do something just because others are, I know the value of seeing what others are doing as a way to be inspired, to figure out how that might look for you, and how you could integrate it into your life. If you've seen the incredible production of the play “Hamilton,” you may remember the song, “The room where it happens.” In it, Aaron Burr laments that he wants to be in the room where it happens - where leaders make decisions, make compromises, make opportunities for themselves and those who they are allied with. The idea is that to get traction, to have your ideas heard, to be successful, you want to be where things are going on, where you can make a difference, where the people around you can help you out. But what happens if it's not possible for you to be in that room? You need people who are advocates for you, people who are in those rooms, especially higher-level rooms that you may not have access to or be invited to or be there at that moment, who can advocate on your behalf, who can recommend you for a speaking engagement, who can refer you to a new client, who can nominate you for an award or an opportunity. This is what it means to have a sponsor: a person who advocates for you in the rooms where you are not. Having a sponsor amplifies your voice - and you can amplify other voices by being a sponsor for them. My guest today is Jhaymee Tynan, who is Assistant Vice President of Integration at Atrium Health, a $10bn integrated healthcare delivery system in Charlotte, NC, and is passionate about sponsorship, particularly to advance women of color. Earlier this year, Jhaymee launched her 100 x 2030 initiative to sponsor 100 women of color in healthcare in the next 10 years - and to encourage others to do so as well. We worked together recently to create her signature talk so she can share this message of the power of sponsorship with more organizations. In this episode, Jhaymee and I talk about: The difference between a sponsor and a mentor The 5 C’s of a great sponsor How you can become sponsor-ready Why Jhaymee created her 100 x 2030 initiative Jhaymee’s stress management strategies (including 2 book recommendations) How we worked together to create her signature talk to promote her initiative - and what she found especially helpful This episode is part of our podcast series on “Finding Your Voice.” About My Guest: Jhaymee Tynan, PMP®, PfMP®, FACHE® is Assistant Vice President, Integration at Atrium Health, Charlotte, N.C. In her current role, she leads the system’s Integration Management Office, which provides day-to-day operations and strategy leadership for post-merger integration activities with current and new partners. Before joining Atrium Health, Jhaymee was Business Transformation Manager at Deloitte Consulting in the Global Life Sciences and Healthcare Practice. Jhaymee received a M.B.A. in General Management from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, a master’s degree in project management from The George Washington University, Washington D.C., and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, V.A. Jhyamee is the Creator and Founder of #100x2030, a career movement designed to increase diversity at the senior and C-Suite levels of healthcare organizations across the globe. Jhaymee personally made a commitment to sponsor 100 women of color in healthcare by 2030 to demonstrate the importance of sponsorship and to amplify the careers for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) in the healthcare industry. We’re kicking off a new podcast series on Leadership: what does it mean to be a leader for your audience, your clients, your community, and yourself. You’re going to love the stories and strategies that my guest, Nicole Tisdale, shares. Her story of literally running down a Congressman to ask him for a job is incredible - and shows the power of an “elevator pitch” (or, in this case, the Capitol Hill subway pitch). I had to ask Nicole where she got the confidence to go after what she wants - and you’ll hear what she answers. Nicole first contacted me earlier this year after listening to episode 98 with Dr. Nicole Rochester and her work that she’s doing to improve the doctor-patient-caregiver relationship. Nicole said she wanted to shout through the podcast during that episode to tell Dr. Nicole what she could do to get policies enacted, something most of us never think about doing. We also talk about women in politics, how Nicole approaches her speaking engagements, and why she decided to write a book. Nicole has a fascinating and impressive background: she worked on Capitol Hill for 10 years as a high-ranking staffer, with a focus on issues related to national security. Nicole recently started her own company to help organizations and individuals learn how to advocate for themselves, whether it’s in Congress, your state legislature, or local city council. About My Guest: Nicole Tisdale, principal of Advocacy Blueprints, works with individuals and organizations who are eager to accelerate policy issues, increase advocacy efforts, and create changes in their organizations and communities. Nicole’s passion is making government accessible to all. During her ten-year tenure on the US House Committee on Homeland Security, Nicole developed a strong proficiency in handling congressional investigations of the Executive Branch and the private sector by mastering congressional process and procedure. Serving as the former Director of Intelligence and Counterterrorism and the Director of Outreach and Coalitions for members and staff, she helped to advance the Committee’s outreach efforts by creating strategic partnerships between the private sector and the Committee in an effort to harness support for legislation and oversight for national security efforts. Her book, “Right To Petition: A Practical Guide to Creating Change in Government with Political Advocacy Tools and Tips,” is already a political reference bestseller and has received numerous excellent reviews, as the first of its kind. Nicole received both her Juris Doctorate (’09) and Bachelors of Art (’06) from the University of Mississippi. About Us: The Speaking Your Brand podcast is hosted by Carol Cox. There’s no prescribed timeframe for how teens move from being a kid into being an adult. There are a couple of tasks they need to do to become a whole individual person who chooses how they’re going to live their lives. And the process is messy. An example of a developmentally appropriate tasks teens need to go through is questioning the morals and beliefs they were raised with. This questioning can be demonstrated in their choices, not just in intellectual discussions It’s also developmentally appropriate for them to not think of long-term implications as they make this kind of choice What they’re questioning is: “Do you really know what you’re talking about or are you trying to “fear” me into your decisions? Knowing your own beliefs is important as you walk with your teens to help them discover their own beliefs This means you must do your own internal work to figure out what you believe – do you believe what you believe because of fear or do you have a solid reason? You can’t give your teens what you don’t have yourself It’s okay to say, “I don’t know, let’s explore this.” There’s no guarantee that your teens will eventually come back to what you believe and have taught them. But regardless, it’s healthy for your teens to become adults who adopt their own belief systems and don’t automatically accept someone else’s. And that’s scary for parents. It’s messy before they land somewhere, but it’s good to go through the process of deciding – it’s the only way to become a full human as an adult Validation is a tool you can use to navigate the conversation It’s not agreement It’s accepting your teen in their messiest, most ridiculous, most harmful state You want to avoid invalidation It can be our knee-jerk reaction and comes out of us so easily It’s not helpful in helping your teens work through the emotional impact of whatever is going on Correcting might happen in the same conversation as your teen’s developmentally appropriate behavior, but will probably happen later – when emotions are settled down Using open-ended questions for correcting is the most likely way your teen will be able to hear and receive correction Teens still need boundaries – they need you to say “It’s not okay to . . . “Validate their desire, but reinforce the boundaries Teens need to know why their boundaries make sense, so it’s helpful to know how your boundaries are based on what’s good, loving, and healthy Fear-based boundaries either produce anxious adults who make fear-based decision or adults who disregard any boundaries you tried to instill Be kind to yourself - this is a long process! This isn’t about where I want my teens to go or who I want them to be – it’s about helping them emerge into themselves. Referenced in this Episode Download the FREE Ebook! Biggest Takeaways: Many times, our teen’s behavior does not have the intentionality we give it. Seeing our teen’s behavior as developmentally appropriate can help us reframe it and respond, rather than react, to it. Defining a behavior as developmentally appropriate doesn’t excuse inappropriate or unhealthy behavior. When I know it’s developmentally appropriate for teens to go through certain stages as they’re changing from kids into adults, I can now respond to their misbehavior rather than react to it. Understanding what is developmentally appropriate frees parents and teens from condemnation and shame. This is not who your teen is – it’s how they are becoming an adult. As parents, we’re still going to focus on setting boundaries and behaviors and keep them moving toward what is healthy – they don’t get a free license to do anything they want just because they’re going through this stage. Recognizing what is developmentally appropriate in your teen is meant to be an internal dialog to help you reframe your teen’s behavior in a non-shaming, process-focused way. It is NOT something you tell your teen, because that can be condescending or belittling. Teens hate being told why they do what they do, or that they don’t “get it” because they’re teenaged. That will shut down any kind of connection with them. There’s no prescribed timeframe for how teens move from being a kid into being an adult. There are a couple of tasks they need to do to become a whole individual person who chooses how they’re going to live their lives. And the process is messy. “Good enough parenting” - there is no perfect parent. If we can consistently fall into the big, wide, gray area of “good enough,” we’re parenting well. Examples of developmentally appropriate tasks teens need to go through (it doesn’t mean they are manifested in “good” ways, but they need to experience these to emerge into adulthood): be emotionally reactive and impulsive be self-centered and overly self-conscious value their peers’ opinions over their parents’ advice Your measure of success as a parent is not your teen’s immediate response – it’s being able to say yes to the question “did you create the space for them to grow toward something healthier?” You cannot give space when you are condemning, shutting down, or invalidating.
