Micah swam competitively at Cal Berkeley, trained for the 2008 and 2012 Olympics in open water swimming, and has traveled the world competing in open water and lifesaving competitions. Virginia Buckingham was the CEO of MassPort (governs Boston's Logan International Airport) on 9/11. She shares a behind the scenes glimpse at what happened that day and in the months after. She also courageously shares how she carried the weight of this historic tragedy and internalized not only her own trauma, but the collective trauma of a nation. Ginny was the first woman to be Chief of Staff to two consecutive Massachusetts governors (Weld + Cellucci) and the first woman to be CEO of the Massachusetts Port Authority. When she resigned from that position in the wake of 9/11, she went on to work for The Boston Herald. She then worked at Pfizer for 14 years, where she pioneered multiple innovative public affairs strategies to support biopharma innovation in the US and abroad, including strategically driving digital advocacy and communications around Pfizer's Covid response. After this remarkable 35-year career as an innovative leader across government, media and industry, she founded Goldthwait Advisors LLC. Ginny wrote the Amazon #1 Bestseller On My Watch which chronicles her leadership through the response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and her personal journey, in particular, her mental health struggles in the years after. She still writes and speaks extensively on lessons of resilience, crisis management, and leadership. She's a member of the American College of Corporate Directors and a member of the highly selective Presidential Leadership Scholars leadership development initiative sponsored by the libraries of four former US Presidents. Loneliness Is a major factor in physical and mental decline. Connection, often referred to as the opposite of addiction, is vitally important to our happiness and longevity. One in three adults report feeling lonely, so if you are one of those three, you are not alone. This meditation will invite you to lean into the loneliness and listen. Listen to what is seeks and promises. Deeper connection with yourself, more genuine connection with others and more stimulating connection with the world around you is available on the other side of fear. This meditation will also invite you to pour into your heart the love and gratitude that is always accessible if we are still and quiet enough to feel it. I hope you enjoy! There is a mental health crisis in the legal industry, so I invited Dr. Shawn Healy, Ph.D, a clinical psychologist at Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL) to join me on the podcast. LCL provides confidential and free services to lawyers, judges and law students. Prior to joining LCL in 2014, Shawn worked in a private group practice in Cambridge, MA. Prior to private practice, Shawn worked at the May Institute for 10 years where he initially completed his pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship. Anxiety, worry and fear cannot co-exist with love and gratitude. This meditation is both a practice and an invitation. Both are inspired by the healing properties of gratitude - both physical and mental. In this practice I guide you through a list of simple pleasures and profound treasures that are just a few things I love and am so grateful for. I'm sure you will love them too! The invitation is then open for you to sit in your own space of gratitude and create a list of what you truly love. What makes your heart sing? Uncovering and rediscovering all the wonders we look past, all the small but significant gifts that we once adored and now have simply adapted to. What dazzles and enchants you? What makes you feel alive and safe and loved and grateful beyond measure? In this space our anxieties melt away and remind us to open and soften and love again. Sending love! About Mark Dembo '86:Mark Dembo wore many hats with the Cornell Media Guild from 1982-1986. He was an On-Air DJ, Salesman, Sales Manager, Vice President, and General Manager. His choice of wearing ties made for a great professional look, but he didn't have the smoothest of rides (typical shenanigans for the Cornell Media Guild). He almost went into hiding following the near-disaster of a Bruce Springsteen ticket giveaway, and we finally close the book on the FM93 Coca-Cola Cruiser promotion three decades later. (Warren Kurtzman, this one's for you.) Mark earned his bachelor's degree in Industrial and Labor Relations and currently serves as the Regional Director of Corporate Programs for eCornell/Cornell External Education.

Subscribe to this podcast on iTunes by clicking here: http://bit.ly/ymotwitunes or on Stitcher by clicking here: http://bit.ly/ymotwstitcher. Social Entrepreneur Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org, created what could be described as the first crowdfunding site, despite the fact that that term wouldn’t come into vogue for another decade. In 2000, Best launched the site to solve a clear problem. “Public school teachers spent an average of $485 of his/her own money to pay for school supplies, instructional materials and other classroom materials. Across the U.S., this adds up to $1.6 billion in out-of-pocket expenses for teachers (2013 National School Supply and Equipment Association Retail Market Awareness Study). Innovative approaches are needed to help public school classrooms,” he says. For the past six years, Chevron has been partnering with DonorsChoose.org to generate funds for teachers with its Fuel Your School program. A year ago, I covered the campaign for the first time. Last year, $7.1 million went to teachers in 22 communities, supporting 6,459 local public school projects impacting 715,145 students, according to Chevron. Blair Blackwell, Manager of Education and Corporate Programs at Chevron, explains, “From Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, 2015, Chevron’s Fuel Your School program will donate $1, up to a total of nearly $8.8 million, to help fund eligible classroom projects when consumers purchase 8 or more gallons of fuel at participating local Chevron and Texaco stations in 21 U.S. markets.” The program’s reach in 2015 could approach 1 million students. “Since its inception in 2010, Chevron’s Fuel Your School has helped fund more than 23,000 classroom projects at 4,433 schools in the U.S.,” Blackwell adds. I am delighted to be talking with Liz Cooper today, who is the manager of Corporate Programs for the Workplace Project at the Human Rights Campaign. She is the go-to gal for all things regarding the Corporate Equality Index which does come up a great deal on this podcast. So Liz, I've given the listeners just a really high-level highlight of your most recent work, but why don't you tell the audience a little bit more about yourself and what your path looked like that led you to where you are today. Liz Cooper: Absolutely, so thanks so much for having me. I'm Liz Cooper as Jenn mentioned, manager at Corporate Programs at the Human Rights Campaign. I've been here just about three years now and so for folks who are not familiar with the Human Rights Campaign, we're the organization that goes along the blue and yellow equal sign. We're the largest civil rights organization working for LGBT equality in the US and I've been with HRC just about three years. And the project that I work on, the Workplace Project, deals with how companies are ensuring the safety, inclusive policies, benefits, protections for their LGBT employees. And as Jenn mentioned, the main mechanism that we measure and evaluate, the status of LGBT equality in the workplace, is through the Corporate Equality Index. So the CEI has been around for over ten years now, and it was really- and not to be too corny but an honor to inherit such a well-established and respected project when I came along on board with the team. So the CEI is a very objective measure of LGBT equality in the workplace. It doesn't account for employee surveys or their perception of their own personal experience with the company. It really is, 'Do you have these inclusive policies in place or do you not? Do you have these benefits for your LGBT employees or do you not?' So it's a really great objective measure and while it's also reporting out on the status of LGBT equality in these major US employers, our main focus is for those employers with 500 or more full-time employees; so we're talking about the big guys. But it's not just a report out, it's also a roadmap for folks who might now be scoring that well, might not have the most inclusive policies on the books. But we're here to help folks get there. We don't want to shame companies or make them feel bad about not being the best they can be,
Today's podcast episode is meant as a pre-cursor to the next episode! Each year the Human Rights Campaign puts out their Corporate Equality Index (CEI) which is something I absolutely swear by. This index helps me understand what companies are doing good for the LGBT community and what companies are not. In episode #52 of the podcast I will be doing a recap of the 2015 HRC CEI. But before doing that I wanted to first give you an idea of who the HRC is and what they do through the eyes of one their own - Liz Cooper, manager of the Workplace Project. I hope you enjoy!
