She turned hustle into a $4 billion brand, Emma Grede breaks down how she built Kardashian fashion empires  Emma Grede is the founding partner behind the globally successful brands SKIMS, Good American, and Safely, all launched with the Kardashian family. She is also Chairwoman of The Fifteen Percent Pledge, is a board member at Baby2Baby, and was named one of Forbes ‘Richest Self-Made Women in America'.  She explains:  Growing up in East London, raised by a single mother, and how early hardship forged her fierce independence. Taking on a maternal role from childhood, learning to lead through responsibility, empathy, and survival. Turning rejection, dyslexia, and a lack of qualifications into fuel for building billion-dollar fashion brands. Balancing ambition and motherhood, and the personal toll of leadership, hustle, and hard decisions. When that ad came up in my feed, all I could feel was rage. I couldn't believe that this person was claiming to be something that, from where I stood, was so obviously NOT true based on the contents of this ad. It absolutely pissed me off to the point where I went to write a post about it, and talk about all the reasons why this was SO WRONG. But before I hit “publish,” a little voice stopped me in my tracks by asking, “Carly, what's really happening here? What is this rage really about?” Turns out: yes, I deeply believed that what this person was doing was wrong, untruthful, and potentially quite harmful to many of the people who bought into it. But also: I was afraid that people might think I was doing the exact same (though slightly different flavor) thing. One of the biggest lessons I've learnt in the last 5+ years of building and running my business is that there's never really a WRONG time to look at what's really going on, internally. Because even if, yes, externally, the thing we're seeing IS exactly what we're seeing—definitely not invalidating that!—the internal experience that we have in reaction to what we're seeing defines a lot more of our own reality than we may initially think. And it's only by looking inward with curiosity and an overabundance of compassion that we can use everything we're seeing and experiencing—yes, even the definitely shitty stuff—for our betterment. Not to mention: it's often when we do the internal work around whatever that external stuff brings up that we can then move from a place of power to enact change on/in/with the external stuff (if that's something we feel called to do, of course!). This week on The Sustainable Success Podcast I'm talking about How I Refocus My Rage at the Online Business Industry. And no, we're not just pretending like everything is fine—because it's not—but we are talking about what we actually want to and can do about it. If you know anything about me, you know that I THRIVE in the exploration of the liminal space between two truths, so this episode was really a fun one for me and I think also is going to be a nuanced take to something that there's a LOT of conversation about, all the time. Plus, it was a bit of a cathartic experience since I could talk about the things that just feel (and often are) YUCK in our online business space, without actually talking about it in a way that made me part of the yuck (I think, anyway)

I know it's almost the end of 2023 now, which is insane... BUT when the end of the year comes, that's typically when we start thinking about what the next year is going to look like.   And it's usually around this time that I start seeing everyone in the online space giving their own predictions for what they think is on the rise, or what to focus on in online business and marketing the next year. And I always find these super interesting, so I had to create one of my own, and continue with the annual podcast episode series since I DID create one of these last year (which by the way, that is episode 53, if you're interested in hearing my 2023 predictions).   That said, I came up with FIVE different predictions, or theories, on what I believe is going to become really popular and EFFECTIVE in 2024 that will help you with your marketing, your visibility, your social media content and your business growth.   But of course I have to add in a little twist, so I'm actually going to share with you how I plan on ADAPTING my own business to these 2024 predictions as well. So, that should tell you that I FIRMLY believe these predictions are accurate. Because I am making quite a few shifts in my own business.     WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: 5 predictions for the creator and online business industry to prepare for in 2024 How I'm personally adapting to each of these predictions The ultimate "Facebook group" and "free masterclass" replacements The one thing that's going to be most important for content creation now more than ever.   Let's do this. And I say all of this to say that the Lord has recently prompted me to press PAUSE on the podcast for December and potentially part of January as well, so this episode is the LAST podcast episode we are publishing 2023.   MENTIONED: Called to CEO Confidential –> www.hannahbrindley.com/starthere Our weekly email series sharing biblical, practical & supernatural strategies that will help you monetize your message every single week.  BLOG:   Read this episode –> www.hannahbrindley.com/blog/episode99   CONNECT: Instagram –> @hannahbrindley     FREE RESOURCES:   Called to CEO Facebook Community –> https://bit.ly/reclaimedtoreign   The Called to CEO Confidential –> bit.ly/powerprompts Get faith-fueled life & business coaching delivered straight to your inbox   ROOTED: 3 Day Devotional Series for Faith-Fueled Female Entrepreneurs –>https://bit.ly/3daydevotional   30 Days of Provision (Scripture Download + Prompts) –> https://bit.ly/30daysofprovision   Attract Your Queendom (Learn to Attract Your Ideal Clients to You) –>https://bit.ly/attractyourqueendom     WORK WITH HANNAH: 1:1 Async Immersion Experience –> bit.ly/asyncimmersion A 1:1 asynchronous experience for Christian entrepreneurs who are seeking intimate support to help grow their business.   Called to CEO Collective –> www.hannahbrindley.com/membership A membership for Christian entrepreneurs who are ready to stop self-sabotage, activate a faith-fueled focus and cultivate a thriving, Holy Spirit led business. Welcome to Coffee with Creators Podcast! Today, our guest is Edward Lee, a photographer, videographer, and filmmaker. For today's episode, we'll discuss all about filmmaking and videography. We will also talk about the path to success and the key to moving forward. Edward's Background [4:17] Edward started as a photographer back in middle school. He did family portraits, senior portraits, and also experienced working on weddings. [5:25] Edward's first job was at Rhino Camera Gear. His experience in this job led to him on his career today. He was able to learn filmmaking during his time on the job. The Path to Success [16:16] Edward learned that the most important thing he could've done does not focus on the area of expertise but on how he never stopped achieving what needed to be done. It was about never stopping what he was doing and just moving forward. Low Point in Life [21:33] Edward mentioned that one of the low points in his life was during college. Edward felt like college was a huge weight on his shoulders. The dream of being successful was under a lot of pressure. Making Calculated Risks [34:00] Edward eventually realized that he could earn money through content creation. Although he has an idea on the industry, it doesn't mean that he would jump out right away and make money out of it. He played it safe, but he made YouTube videos when he had time. Edward's Podcast: MIDCONVO [51:13] Aside from photography and videography, Edward also has a podcast named ‘MIDCONVO.' It is all about the creative business side of being a freelancer. He loves podcasting, and it is something that he wouldn't want to go away from his life. Freelance and Business Industry [55:10] When you're self-employed, you will no longer have income for day-to-day living. Edward has a YouTube career, as well as a photo studio that is located in Seattle. He is currently establishing ways to make money to go on a vacation without thinking of any problems. Social Media Pressure [59:08] Edward sometimes feels YouTube anxiety and pressure. He is sometimes pressured to see that other people post content weekly than he posts monthly. You should not mind what other people are doing and just focus on yourselves. You cannot force yourself to do a pace that you are not used to doing. You don't have to follow and go with your flow. In this episode of Testimony: A Musician's Story I interview artist manager-party promoter-booking agent-label president, Erinn Knight. Erinn was born on the south side of Atlanta, GA. If you know Erinn, then you know she is an ATL enthusiast! ATL has the highest number of black entrepreneurs per capita in the world, and she grew up seeing a lot of successful black people, so she attributes her ability to dream big to her city. “I come from the dopest city in the world,” said Knight. “ATL is the first place ever I felt fully accepted and loved. Bless my parents but I never felt that in my home life,” she revealed. Knight grew up in a two-parent household, as a pastor's kid. As a PK she felt as though her identity was restricted. Her identity wasn't her own, her parents wanted her to present herself oneway, and the church community put their expectations on her, “People put the hopes of their children onto PKs. They want you to influence other kids and you too, are a kid,” Knight said. The older Erninn got the more her mom allowed her to be herself, but she said it was always a struggle. And to this day, she believes her parents don't totally understand her career, “When you are a visionary you are never going to be able to explain yourself to people,” she concluded. There are several instances in her life where Erinn recommitted to her relationship with Christ. When sharing her Christian testimony she highlights the ages 16, 19, 21, and a time most recently during the pandemic. “It's impossible to really believe something if you only believe it at face value the first time you hear it. If your doing anything aside from deconstructing it consistently, you might as well be blindly following something that could be misleading,” Knight shared. Furthermore, she believes “To be a black Christian there is no way I can just take it by face value… Christianity has been so influenced by imperialism, colonization, and white supremacy… The first ten iterations of the gospel were through white lenses… It's about learning where the church started, and what the truth of the Bible says about me.”In the Christian Hip Hop music business industry, the name Erinn Knight brings clout. She is not only The Woman, but she is That Person! This is interesting because she comes from the rock/punk world, and she had to google the acronym CHH. The Vans Warped Tour is where she spent years learning and developing her skill sets. She did a brief stint in film, and then discovered the music of rapper-singer Kaleb Mitchell, by way of singer Xavier Omar's SoundCloud account. Knight and Kaleb developed a relationship on social media, that led to weekly phone calls with the then 16-year-old and his dad. This is where trust was built. Once Kaleb was 18 years old she became his manager. Kaleb and Erinn shared a couple of full-circle moments with the artist Xavier Omar, FKA SPZRKT. The first song she and Kaleb dropped on her new record label Build Your Own Dreams (which she is the president of), featured Xavier Omar. And the first music festival she organized, the Holy Smoke Festival, Xavier and Kaleb performed at. Prior to managing artists, starting a label, and throwing a festival, Erinn and her team started the booking agency INVT Only. Originally they worked with Kaleb Mitchell, Wande, nobigdyl., and WHATUPRG. Now they work with 12 artists. Knight isn't quick to work with someone. She prefers to walk with them for a year and make sure all parties involved can provide value, and it has to make sense. “The reason why anyone fails is because of the business infrastructure. Not because they are not talented. I try to help people avoid pitfalls and from signing bad deals. I try to help them find their pathway through without having to give up their masters, or with someone who doesn't have their best interest [in mind],” said Knight. Knight doesn't work exclusively with Christian hip hop artists, nor does she work exclusively in music. Erinn manages southside ATL rapper Scotty ATL, and BYOD is the brand manager of his premier gold grill company, Grillz by Scotty. BYOD recently has gotten into merchandise management as well, where they do the manufacturing, fulfilling, design, and customer service of the clients' merch. How does God's presence help her navigate the Christian hip hop music business industry? “I definitely see His hand working in me and through me in the music scene. Especially, the amount of influence that He has given me, not only in the Christian scene, but the Atlanta scene, and being able to maneuver worldwide. I've seen a lot of favor. Musically, He is helping me to go where ever I need to go and helping me to make sure I stay grounded.”

In this episode, Hall welcomes Alpesh Patel, part of the Global Entrepreneur Program (GEP) at the Department for International Trade in the UK. The UK Government’s Department for International Trade has under it the Global Entrepreneur Programme (GEP). In it, Dealmakers are business people who make deals with overseas outstanding tech scale-up companies to land their global HQ in the UK. They help companies with VCs, angels, potential customers, etc.  Alpesh Patel OBE has represented the United Kingdom since 1999 when the then Prime Minister appointed Alpesh to advise on closer UK/India ties. Thereafter the Department for International Trade made Alpesh their Dealmaker since 2004 to bring outstanding tech companies to the UK, which solve the world’s biggest problems and create jobs here. (www.theeinsteinchallenge.com). Alpesh believes that trade underpins liberty. An Oxford University Fellow in Business & Industry back in 2001, Alpesh won a competition in Financial Times against fund managers, journalists, analysts, using the investment software he created to forecast UK company performance. The ambition is to publicly list that fintech/edtech company as a disruptor to the global multi-trillion dollar fund management industry, so regular people can benefit from making better stock investments themselves. Alpesh is a Financial Times author who being a Barrister to pursue investing and educating people on financial literacy for social mobility. As a firm believer in the power of mentoring, Alpesh co-founded the UK chapter of the world's largest entrepreneur mentoring organisation (Tie.org). As a founder of a hedge fund/private equity firm (the hardest easy money to make) – his focus is on cleantech, sustainability, and social impact, not self-enrichment. Committed to public service, Alpesh uses his Barrister's training and TV presenter skills to raise funds for widows, orphans, under-fed school-children, victims of slavery. Alpesh has served as a Governor of Luton University and Council Member of Chatham House including on their Investment Committee. Before all that, Alpesh worked in US Congress for Eliot Engel on anti-terrorism and nuclear proliferation. Welcome to another episode of Action & Ambition with your host, Andrew Medal.  Ashok Wahi is the Chief Inventor and CEO of Trutek Corp. He is the inventor of NasalGuard® patented technology for the filtration of microscopic particles from entering nasal passages. He has acquired several patents in the US and internationally for this unique electrostatic topical gel that acts as a preventative method for the effects of breathing contaminated air. Since then, over twelve million units of NasalGuard products have been sold worldwide so far.  Before Trutek, he has been a senior consultant to Fortune 25 pharmaceutical companies, hospitals/medical facilities, and higher education institutions in the US for over 40 years. He has specialized in designing state-of-the-art R&D and high-tech laboratories. You’re going to love this episode. Let’s get to it! What are Ashok and his business about? (0:13) Ashok is an entrepreneur, even though he is an undergrad in Engineering and has a Master of Science degree. He is an entrepreneur at heart.  He likes recognizing problems everybody comes across and then solves it.  And since nobody has bothered to recognize the problem and solve it, Ashok can smoothly go after its intellectual property.  He began his life, breaking up toys and mixers, irons, and heaters, but he would not be able to put them back together again.  This stayed with him for many years. Through education and experience of many years, he has been able to put things back together again. He says he likes taking problems apart and putting them back together in a solved, simplistic and scientific way.  He’s a science graduate at heart as well as an entrepreneur, and that is why he is not giving people fluke solutions. He’s not trying to rip people off to make as much money as he can.  He does not lie to his customers about needing his products; he has science and technology, backing up his products’ statements.  The company he cofounded is called TruTek because it is true technology, true to its core, and it’s true to what it says it’s supposed to do.  How did Ashok acquire his Patents? (6:47) Getting his first patent in an uncharted area of science and technology was somewhat comfortable.  If you can identify the area you are going after, it is not too difficult to make a patent for that technology.  Ashok likens it to find a massive piece of land that you can build a house on top of, a flat piece of land that no one else has noticed.  For Ashok’s first patent, he has a patent attorney as a partner who said he would do all of Ashok’s patent paperwork, put it into files, and get the license in return for 22.5% of the profits.  This seemed like a great idea to Ashok initially; he figured 22.5% was an excellent low but great pay to pay for the work the attorney was doing. He was providing Ashok with a secure patent and making sure others could not get into it too, which initially would have cost him something like $5,000-$10,000. That would be the price from a small law firm that would represent your claim to USPTO and write a professional claim and then go through filing before going into prosecution. After all of that, you would have about a 70% chance of actually getting the patent.  Ashok also explains that it is more expensive and harder to get additional patents on the same technology that you created. Ashok has half a dozen patents of Nasal Guard itself. The first was on the fundamental idea of the product; after that, he developed the product and had to patent that then. Method Patenting is one of the strongest patents you can have on a physical product.  So once Ashok had his first two patents, he just kept building them from there as he developed his products.  What is Ashok’s vision for his business, and how has he stayed motivated for so long? (16:43) Ashok is driven by his want and need to create a global good that will help many people. Ashoke also finds ways to keep people away from him or medicate them, in a pop a pill fashion that many consumers like.  An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.  His idea for Nasal Guard was if dust particles in the air can increase the number of asthma attacks a person suffers, he created something that limits the particles entering the consumer’s nose and therefore preventing attacks.  With the fires on the west coast, Ashok and his company donated Nasal Guard products for the firefighters to protect them from inhaling all of the smoke and dust from the event while they fought at the front line.  His Nasal Guard is an invisible filter that will stop microscopic and submicroscopic particles that tend to go right through a mask.  So it all comes down to Ashok just wanting to help people live better, healthier, and more comfortable lives. TruTek Trutek Corp. is a company active in Intellectual Property Development, R&D and Manufacturing of Topical Allergy Prevention Products, Nasal Particle Blocker, Cold&Flu Block, Skincare Products (such as Eye, Hand, Face & Body Moisturizers), and Hair Conditioners based in Somerville, NJ USA. Tom Thackray (Director for Innovation and Digital Policy at the Confederation of Business Industry), Craig Beaumont (Head of External Affairs at the Federation of Small Business), and Rebecca Burn-Callander (freelance journalist for the Daily Telegraph, and previously its Enterprise and Business Club Editor), join Eulogy CEO Lis Field to discuss the true value of productivity as a barometer of economic health, and whether businesses can claw back the ‘lost decade’ following the 2008 recession.  Listen in as our experts explore how small changes – be it to the tax regime, to payment terms for small business, or to the education structure and its widening skills gap – can combine to create a real and immediate impact.

Your Learning Curve Never Sounded So Good! Helping automotive aftermarket professionals improve; one lesson at a time. Learn from your industry peers in a round-table forum. Get new ideas,  perspectives, trends, insights, best practices and expertise from aftermarket professionals. This is the only weekly forum for aftermarket professionals bringing fresh and innovative discussion to inspire and grow individuals and companies. The Panel: Robert L. Redding Jr., ASA Legislative representative –Bob has represented the Automotive Service Association, from their Capitol Hill office, since 1993.  He has received presidential appointments to several Federal Advisory Committees at the United States EPA, DOJ, Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Transportation. www. Previous episodes with Bob Redding (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22redding%22) . Joe Battista, Joseph (Joe) Battista is currently Vice President of Sales and Business Development for Parsons Corporation, a leading provider of program management services in periodic safety and emissions vehicle inspection programs to government jurisdictions throughout North America. Shop owner Sybren van der Pol Sybren is an A.S.E. Master L1 Technician and owns Adolf Hoepfl & Son Garage, a 10-bay shop that employs 14 people. He serves on the local ASA Houston chapter Board of Directors.   Talking Points: The State of Periodic State Safety Inspections. Only 14 states have them running. In 1975 there were 31 states doing PMVI (Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspections) because of a mandate from the Federal Government for funds. They’ve been in attack and we now have only 14 states doing some form of inspection. Many states who got out of PMVI looked at it as a tax break and that inspections were not doing anything for their citizen. The aftermarket has done a poor job of educating the consumer on the value of safety inspection. When state PMVI requirements go away your business will be affected. A four-legged stool. Business/Industry, Government, Politics, Clients. There has been more defense instead of office to fight the state on elimination of these programs. We need more offense. Writing letters to your congressman and involving your customer to write to their congressman. We need help from National Highway Safety Transportation Administration (NHSTA) A discussion with NHSTA to include the aftermarket in recalls and education to the consumer. Model year exemptions should not be considered because there are about 8 – 9 % of newer vehicles that Parsons see’s that have safety issues. Many programs have gone away because they are not defensible because the data is not there, yet NHTSA has the data. Data should drive the debate, but we do not have good data. The best way to improve and increase PMVI programs is when everyone is singing off the same sheet of music; Industry, Government, Customer. Without mandatory program safety inspections from the state, necessary safety repairs will not get done. This week I sit down with Dan Henderson from Function Training Institute to talk to him about the functional fitness space. Interestingly, 5 years ago I did a similar interview when functional training was just in it's infancy. It was great to get him back and see how the industry has evolved over that time. At the time, 5 years ago, his business was still in it's infancy and operating more like a hobby based business. Fast forward 5 years and the industry is booming and Dan and his co-founder, Tarek, can be found speaking and training trainers worldwide. Dan talks to me about how the industry has changed as it's grown. Particularly as more gyms and fitness professionals have embraced the movement as well as more and more research revealing what Dan and the team have been teaching for the past 5 years. These days there's not that many gyms where you wont find battle ropes, kettlebells, powerbags and other functional type training equipment. We discuss the challenges that new fitness professionals face coming into the industry as well as the three things that Dan focusses on each day that help him continue to deliver services with passion and drive.
