Chris Pook is the former travel agent who had the wild idea of staging a Formula One race through the city streets of Long Beach. Between himself, Dan Gurney, Jim Michaelian and a number of others who were critical in getting this event started, they all overcame numerous obstacles in trying to make his dream a reality. This iconic event will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on April 11-13, 2025. At the 2024 Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame ceremony (where he has also been inducted), he was gracious enough to spend some time with us and tell us about the challenges the event faced getting off the ground, some of the key moments that made it a success (including key people), and how it's endured all these years. In looking forward to this incredible 50-year milestone, there's nobody more qualified to talk about it than he is. Enjoy!

While he's not a car star to us all his movie The French Connection is one the most iconic of it's day. For many of us, he's the best part about dozens of movies that we have loved for over 50 years! From The French Connection to Hoosiers, The Replacements, Crimson Tide, even The Royal Tenenbaums, Gene's acting chops marked him as one of the best actors to ever grace the big screen. He'll be missed. As we learned doing research, Gene actually WAS a car guy and had done a considerable amount of racing. He followed in the footsteps of Paul Newman and fell in love with amateur/celebrity racing initially, trained at the Bob Bondurant school, and eventually became involved with Dan Gurney for celebrity and professional races with TOYOTA. We discussed Gene's awesome career in the episode and included a re-broadcast from The Kibbe and Finnegan Show where we had reviewed "The Replacements". This movie is the story we all want; a chance to live up to the potential of something that we loved from our youth and maybe came close to achieving, but for whatever reason failed at, or it fizzled out, or it just ended for reasons we couldn't control. Keanu is honestly pretty good as a south-paw quarterback and it's a great movie full of inspirational one-liners you'll love to quote. Daniel Sexton Gurney (1931-2018) was a Southern California Hot-Rodder who became one of the most successful racing drivers in the history of motorsport, with wins in Saloon Car, Sports Car, NASCAR, Indy Car and Formula One. Gurney raced for the Arciero Brothers, Luigi Chinetti's North American Racing Team, Ferrari, Brabham, BRM and Porsche before teaming up with Carroll Shelby to found All American Racers in 1964.Gurney was always seeking out men of motorsport at the top of their game: he collaborated with Colin Chapman of Lotus, engine maestro Harry Weslake, and the ambitious cadre at Ford Motor Company, who were intent on taking on the world's best.Gurney helped to pioneer the rear engine layout at the Indianapolis 500, spelling the end of Indy's Roadster Era in Champ Car racing, and AAR fielded the Gurney Eagle Formula One chassis for the first time in 1966. 1967 was a banner year for Gurney, winning the Belgian Grand Prix in the Eagle Mk1- the first Grand Prix win for an American constructor since 1921. He also won overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his co-driver A.J. Foyt in the Ford GT 40 Mk IV.Gurney retired as a driver in 1970, but continued to operate All American Racers for the rest of his life, famously partnering with Toyota in IMSA-GT and CART. As a driver, Dan Gurney chalked up 63 victories over all motorsport categories, and All American Racers achieved 78 total wins as a constructor. His influence and contributions in the world of motor racing continue to inspire the next generation.SUPPORT THE POD:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/hpheritageSUPPORT OUR SPONSORS:http://modelcitizendiecast.comFIND US ON THE WEB:https://www.horsepowerheritage.comInstagram: @horsepowerheritageSupport the showSubscribe to the Horsepower Heritage YouTube channel for more great cars and motorcycles! https://www.youtube.com/@horsepowerheritage8030
Strap in, kids—it's time for another story from Jeff's past, and this one's a doozy. In 1967, future pro racer and INTC host Jeff Braun won a contest to visit the United States F1 Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. Jeff was nine years old. The trip blew his mind. Guaranteed in this ep: Our very own J.B. as a wee man! Quality hangs with Dan Gurney and Jack Brabham! Sam explaining why Sixties F1 was bonkers-deadly but great! Jeff swimming at the Glen Motor Inn with Gurney and Jim Clark and Graham "Mustache" Hill! A private garage tour! And more! This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. We call this format “Jeff Tells a Story.” RELATED TRIVIA: So at one point, our boy hits the Watkins concession stands. He wants a burger. Being nine, he is not tall, can't see over the counter. Then, suddenly, someone lifts him up. He turns around—it's future F1 World Champion Jochen Rindt! Suited and booted, driving that weekend, three years before his death at Monza. RIP, you legend: Trackside meatwich brings everybody together. “You jerk,” they'll shout, “that show title isn't relatable! Only the die-hards will understand! For pete's sake, man, think of the traffic analytics!” Who cares? I am Sam and I write these ep descriptions, and that title makes me happy. If you don't like it, hey, you probably aren't the kind of person to listen to a show about a “flap,” anyway. And: This is a show about a flap! It's also about two of the greatest American racers to have ever lived. The moment where two men of experience and wisdom grew frustrated. And how they stumbled onto an invention that changed aerodynamics forever. This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. This episode is our monthly deep dive into an epic moment from racing history. In this case, the time when Dan Gurney and Bobby Unser used an Indy car to discover something that would later be used to help helicopters fly. Related Trivia: Ross can fly a helicopter. Sam once rode in a Robinson R22. Jeff is a private pilot and about 1000 times cooler than Sam and Ross combined, so he probably taught his sons to autorotate in the womb or something. (I don't know, I've never asked, but you do the math, the guy is basically our Fonzie, right?) In this episode of the Off-Road Racer Podcast, I sit down with off-road racer, tour guide, and Hollywood stuntman Rich Minga. Rich had an unsuspecting start in off-roading, going on camping trips with his family in Baja. After getting hooked on Hot VWs Magazine, Rich started sweeping the floors at a buggy prep shop in El Cajon, and built his own Baja Bug at the young age of 15. Taking what he learned from How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive, Rich would go on to help prep cars for Mark Stahl, Jim Guthrie, and Dan Gurney. After many years of prepping, and getting the occasional chance to drive, Rich would start his own race program, racing Baja in class 9 in 1986. Just one year later, Rich took the overall points championship. Because of his performance in racing, and all of the people he met in off-road, Rich got the opportunity to perform vehicle stunts in an episode of Baywatch. This led into a career as a stuntman in Hollywood, where Rich would use his experience in racing to perform stunts in dozens of films. Now, Rich is a guide and driving coach for Wide Open Baja, while still operating as a stuntman. Rich and I sit down to talk about his lifelong history in off-road, and more. I'm your host Matt Martelli, and this IS the Off-Road Racer Podcast.

The catch: We're the fans. (Bet you didn't see that coming.) “If you have the chance to make something beautiful,” Dan Gurney once said, “and you don't, well, what does that say about you?” This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. This episode's format is called "How I Got Here." It's a free-form dive into the people, places, moments, and machines that made us care about racing when we were young. In this case, that means the one and only Daniel Sexton Gurney—the legendary American driver and team owner who changed how we view optimism and the art of the possible. (Gurney's resume is a mile long, but among so much else, he remains the only American to win an F1 race in a car of his own construction.) Also: This one is just Sam and Jeff. Ross was busy doing something at tape time but didn't tell us what. Because Ross is Canadian, I now get to type the words, “He was obviously writing his poutine manifesto.” Related Trivia: No trivia this week. Sam writes these episode descriptions and his wife is currently in bed with strep throat, so he's a bit brain-dead from simultaneously working, taking care of a sick lady, and solo parenting two kids in grade school hold on a sec I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU, STOP EATING BEANS AND THEN SITTING ON YOUR SISTER'S HEAD, OKAY? We invite you to take a trip back in time - to a wet, soggy Nürburgring - as we re-live the 1962 German GP with Peter Windsor. The race resulted in a classic win for BRM's Graham Hill - but that was just the start of it. Hill was lucky to survive a lurid practice crash; Porsche, with Dan Gurney, were superquick after a week of testing; and for a while on Sunday, with mudslides making life perilous for the 350,000-strong crowd, it seemed as though the race might not happen at all. Peter details these events and more - and concludes this podcast with an assessment of the astonishing success of BRM chassis no 5781.
7. Wallace Reid.

How did Gordon Murray get his tenacious hunger of design and problem solving? How did he come to design the legendary McLaren F1? What does his new car, the T.50, do that other supercars don't? And what are those strange contraptions he built out of a boiler and a food truck? All that and a lot more will be answered in this amazing episode. If there were a hall of fame for cars, Gordon Murray would be near the top, seated at the table of bosses next to people like Colin Chapman, Enzo Ferrari, Bruce McLaren, and Dan Gurney. He was the lead designer and engineer behind the McLaren F1, which came after he had a very successful career as a lead engineer in F1. For some, those credits would be enough to hang their legacy on but as you'll soon hear, Gordon is not like other people. His new venture, GMA (Gordon Murray Automotive), has debuted two cars that lit the supercar world on fire because their intent is not to deliver the quickest, fastest, or most powerful ride on Earth, but the best to drive. Gordon's focus has always been about weight reduction and driver feedback, and as will become clear in this show, his focus is sharper than ever. If you've listened to or watched a NASCAR race in the past 50 years, there's a voice that is synonymous with some of the sport's biggest moments. Legendary broadcaster Mike Joy joins Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis to fill listeners in on his career, as well as talk shop about the broadcasting craft. After a meteoric rise from the PA booth of New England's finest short tracks, Joy has gone on to work for almost every major broadcasting network in motorsports over the past five decades. Growing up in Windsor, Connecticut, Joy enrolled at the University of Hartford pursuing a degree in engineering. It was here that he got his first on-air experience after taking a position at the university's radio station as a play-by-play commentator for sporting events. It was also during these years that he became involved in the world of motorsports. He had developed a love for sports cars as a teenager, thanks to an extensive collection of auto magazines and his father's acquisition of a two-seater that the two worked on. His admiration for the road racing experts of the day, such as Dan Gurney and Mark Donohue sparked an interest to join the driving ranks himself. But without proper funding or opportunity, he settled into the sport of autocross where competitors could use their street vehicles. His autocross club brought him to Riverside Park Speedway in Agawam, Massachusetts – a small pavement oval located in an amusement park. Thanks to his broadcasting experience, he was asked to hop on the microphone during an autocross meet one Sunday to help inform any park attendees who may have wandered into the track exactly what was happening in the competition. Before long, park owner Ed Carroll noticed that a few hundred people had gathered in the grandstands to watch a single car weaving around barrels, and invited Joy on board to become a fill-in PA announcer. Although he initially turned down the offer, citing a disinterest in the crude jalopies of the oval racing circuit, he attended a Saturday night show at the recommendation of the track's public relations specialist. After witnessing a mad dash to the finish between two drivers and the effect it had on the audience, Joy thought “I need to be a part of this.”Joy fills Dale and Mike in on how taking the position at Riverside introduced him to the legendary Ken Squier, and how that guided him to joining the Motor Racing Network. He talks about an opportunity he received to call some of the 1975 IROC race at Daytona, and how that moment made him realize that he could have a career in broadcasting. The conversation also dives into the art of commentating, and how different platforms require different approaches. Joy recounts a hilarious story of sneaking into the 1976 Daytona 500 and joining in on the Wood Brothers' victory lane celebration. He also shares the details of his final conversation with Dale Earnhardt Sr.Although known for his contributions to the sport from inside the broadcaster's booth, Joy still managed to have a career in road racing, and shares the details of his 1973 IMSA debut, as well as his experiences in the 1993 24 Hours of Daytona. In 2022, Joy celebrated his 22nd consecutive year as lead commentator for the Daytona 500. It also marked his 46th year of involvement with Daytona Speedweeks, a record that may never be eclipsed. DIRTY AIR presented by FiltertimeBefore Mike Joy joins the show, Dale, Mike and Matthew get real about: NASCAR's wild weekend at Pocono Denny Hamlin's pass for the lead considered retaliation against Ross Chastain? As a young racer growing up in America in the 60s, Bobby Rahal idolised people like Phil Hill, Dan Gurney and Mario Andretti - drivers who had made it across the Atlantic to drive in Formula 1. He dreamt of doing the same; of travelling to Europe to race at the circuits he'd read about in magazines and going wheel to wheel with his racing heroes. After making a name for himself on US road circuits and putting in some stand-out performances in Formula 3, that F1 opportunity came in 1978 when Walter Wolf offered Bobby a seat alongside Jody Scheckter at the US and Canadian Grand Prix. They were the last two races of the season and, sadly, they would be the first and last races that Bobby would contest in Formula 1. Although his time at the top was brief, Bobby's legacy lives on as one of a handful of American drivers to have made it to F1. In this episode, Bobby addresses the need for more US drivers on the grid and he winds back the decades to reveal the passions that fuelled his love of European motorsport, his journey to F1 and what really happened at those two races back in 1978. Willy T. Ribbs has forged his way to success in professional auto racing like no other man in his chosen sport. From being the first African American to race at Indianapolis to testing Formula One cars and winning multiple IMSA GTO races, he's also driven for or been sponsored/supported by some of the biggest names in and out of the sport - Dan Gurney, Jack Roush (via Ford Motor Company), Bill Cosby and many others. They all believed in Willy enough to help him forge his path of success. He was inducted into the Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame just prior to the 2021 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and spent some time talking with us after he had popped in a quick “Hello” during fellow LBMWoF inductee Will Power's interview. I would've liked to have spent more time interviewing him, however he was interrupted during our chat and told that he had to get to another commitment. Enjoy! On April 17, 1964 the automotive world was rocked when a new vehicle was introduced. It was in at least two James Bond films: Thunderball and Goldfinger. Dan Gurney was a driver of the test car before production started and Lee Ioccoa, the man responsible for the mini van at Chrysler, was responsible for this new car that has been an icon with auto enthusiast since 1964. The car? The Ford Mustang. When I started researching the origins of the Mustang, it led to so many trails of information, it was almost overwhelming. This is another car that's exciting for me to talk about. Partly because I owned a 1979 coupe-the loud and sorta fast car I always wanted in high school. This is a great story that you'll enjoy. So, let's get right into it. Here's links to more information on the introduction of the Ford Mustang: http://www.365daysofmotoring.com Jalopnik.com: This Day in History, the Ford Mustang Auto.HowStuffWorks.com: 1965-1966 Ford Mustang Wikipedia: Ford Mustang What's coming up next on My First Ride? Adam also asks Willy about hanging out with both Muhammad Ali and Bill Cosby at the heights of their powers, as well as updates on Willy’s son and Willy’s thoughts on Dan Gurney, John Singleton, and the old animated series, Gumby. If a picture is worth a thousand words perhaps in Mitch Perry’s case, it’s a thousand notes. “There’s no doubt I’ve lived a circus life from the word go,” Mitch comments, perusing walls of photos that show him with legends from the worlds of racing, rock, and writing. Mitch’s library is astonishing. Thousands of books cascade down shelf-lined walls and he’s read every one. Pulling one of his favorites from its niche, he points to a picture of his father, a race car driver who competed against the likes of Mark Donohue and Dan Gurney in the 60’s and 70’s. For Mitch, life on the road began at birth. His nomadic parents dragged the family from race track to race track eventually landing them in London, England. It was there that Mitch’s first public performance took place at Westminster Abbey, singing with his school choir. “I never even considered a career in music,” he reminisces. “My heart was set on becoming a race driver like my dad.” Mitch’s passion for music was sparked at twelve by the passing nod of a cute classmate whose affections were turned towards a boy with a guitar. “I started to pick it up on my own at first, but then my mother got me an instructor. After one lesson, I told her if she ever wanted me to look at a guitar again, she’d let me learn it on my own, even though it was the pre-YouTube dark ages when we still had to learn by ear,” he laughs. At 16, after a near perfect score on the SAT’s, Mitch convinced his parents to let him take the GED and leave school behind. He moved into a band house with his new group The Kids. Their dedication eventually landed them a gig on one of the most visible stages in South Florida. In those days, if you were recording at Criteria Records or Quadradial chances are you frequented the Tight Squeeze Club. During his time there Mitch shared the stage with Bon Scott of AC/DC, Simon Kirke of Bad Company, Pat Travers, and a host of other celebrated performers. At 18, on Pat Thrall’s recommendation, Alfonso Johnson flew Mitch to L.A. to record an album. The rest is history. Mitch’s resume reads like a Who’s Who of music icons. His career has spanned decades playing with the best of the best. What is his recipe for success? “Stay teachable is one of the keys,” Mitch adds. After all these years, the man who is widely regarded as one of the top three rock guitarists in the world still practices four to six hours a day. “When I’m at home, I have a guitar in one hand and a piano in the other.” On being asked what inspires his writing, “It’s not something I push. It comes from anything at anytime. Saint Valentine was written on a plane, in my head. I often wake up at three a.m. with an idea that I have to write down.” While Mitch’s writing style may be organic, the sophistication and precision of his finished product clearly illustrates a craft that has been honed over decades. In the following years Mitch played with everyone from Graham Nash and Heaven to Michael Schenker, Edgar Winter, Lita Ford and countless others. He is featured on more than 60 albums, including Aerosmith’s Classics Live, where he actually plays keyboards. Mitch has toured with superstars such as Cher and Yazawa and played monumental venues including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Wembley and Buddakan. His prolific career has taken him to iconic recording studios, concert venues and television studios around the world. “All of these experiences and relationships with such extraordinary musicians has brought me to where I am today and you can find its DNA in every track on this new record.”

Mark Steigerwald is the Executive Director at the California Automobile Museum in Sacramento, California. Their mission is to preserve, exhibit, and teach the story of the automobile and its influence on our lives. After graduate school, Mark interned at the International Motor Racing Research Center where he became their Director. Along the way, he got to meet fascinating and generous people associated with all facets of the racing world including Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, Vic Elford, Sam Posey, Rusty Wallace, and many others. I have had the experience of visiting the California Automobile Museum and it is a very special place. Regular listeners will recall the museum’s Curator Carly Starr was a past guest on Cars Yeah.
Mario Gabriele Andretti is a former racing driver and one of the most successful Americans in the history of the sport. His name is synonymous with Auto racing. Along with Dan Gurney, he is one of only two drivers to have won races in Formula One, IndyCar, World Sportscar Championship, and NASCAR. He also won races in midget cars and sprint cars. During his career, Andretti won the 1978 Formula One World Championship, four IndyCar titles, and IROC VI. To date, he remains the only driver ever to win the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, and the Formula One World Championship, and, along with Juan Pablo Montoya, the only driver to have won a race in the NASCAR Cup Series, Formula One, and an Indianapolis 500. No American has won a Formula One race since Andretti's victory at the 1978 Dutch Grand Prix. Andretti had 109 career wins on major circuits. Andretti had a long career in racing. He was the only person to be named United States Driver of the Year in three decades (1967, 1978, and 1984). He was also one of only three drivers to have won major races on road courses, paved ovals, and dirt tracks in one season, a feat that he accomplished four times. With his final IndyCar win in April 1993, Andretti became the first driver to have won IndyCar races in four different decades and the first to win automobile races of any kind in five. In American popular culture, his name has become synonymous with speed, as with Barney Oldfield in the early twentieth century and Stirling Moss in the United Kingdom. From his humble beginnings as a teen age apprentice in a machine shop, to fabricating drive systems for Formula One racing cars, Ken Hill of METALORE, INC., in El Segundo, CA. can count Ferrari, McLaren and others as clients. Currently working on lightening components for the reigning champion, Mercedes’ Formula One Team, Ken is constantly challenged to create racing parts for the most competitive motor sport in the world. Here, Ken gives his take on F-1 team philosophies, why he bought a Cobra from Carroll Shelby at lunch one day, and then modified it, and how his friendship with Dan Gurney led him to own one of Gurney’s Eagle racing cars. This man has been around the block; quickly.
Through sheer determination, Willy shattered the color barrier in professional racing, becoming the first Black man to race in the Indianapolis 500. Ribbs saw his most success in the Trans-Am Series, winning 17 races while driving for such names as Dan Gurney and Jack Roush. Willy's new documentary, "Uppity", is out now on Netflix.
Hector Cademartori is an automotive artist who was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His interest in motor racing started as a teenager being influenced by the European greats including Fangio, Gonzalaz, and Formula 1. He has been selling his illustrations and paintings since 1983 after graduation. His clients include race teams, corporations, magazines, racing organizations, and private collectors. You’ll find his artwork in Dan Gurney’s All American Racers offices, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Laguna Seca Raceway, Auto Club Speedway-Fontana, and automotive corporate headquarters. He may not be a household name, but Jo Ramirez is one of those people who has seen it all and worked with them all. He broke into F1 in the 1960s, working with emerging superstar Ricardo Rodriguez. His Mexican countryman sadly perished before his star had truly emerged, but by then Ramirez was set on a path that would eventually see him work with Jackie Stewart at Tyrrell, Emerson Fittipaldi at Copersucar, and - most famously - with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost at McLaren in the midst of their bitter rivalry. This week on Beyond The Grid, Ramirez - a former mechanic, team manager and co-ordinator - lifts the lid of his four decades in motor racing’s premier category, from his early years working alongside a young Ron Dennis and Dan Gurney, to his latter years alongside Mika Hakkinen.

Bob has been racing his entire life. He got started in small Morgans and Triumphs in California and was jealous of the loud and fast American race cars. He stepped up to Corvettes and started winning immediately. He caught the eye of Carol Shelby who was trying to get Bob to race in the Shelby Cobra. After Bob had to race against a Cobra, he was convinced it was superior and went over to Carol’s team to drive. He won a bunch of races that year and then they took the Cobra to Europe with Dan Gurney to dominate there as well. This led to a stent with Enzo Ferrari racing and testing in Formula 1. Then Peter Revson of the Revlon Company lured Bob back to the US to race in CanAm Series. During one of the races, there was a mechanical failure which sent Bob into the wall and crushed both his feet. The doctors said he would never walk, much less race, again. From this tragedy came the opportunity to create the Bondurant Racing School. He has been at a few locations over the years. But he fell in love with Arizona because of the very predictable weather patterns. This means that he has the best chance to get people out on the track and teach them how to drive. Their programs range from 1-day short courses to a full 4-day open wheel racing school. They have teamed up with Dodge to offer driving schools for anybody who purchase an SRT vehicle and even have a new Demon school where they teach you how to drag race. And yes, Bob was able to heal from the crash and still drives on the track. Even at 85 years young!

On this special episode of the Autoweek Podcast, host Rory Carroll talks with Mark Vaughn, Robin Warner and Mike Pryson about the late Dan Gurney. The show starts with Mark detailing Gurney’s early life in New York, his move to California and his inclusion in the Southern Californian hot rod scene of the late 1940s. From there, Mark takes us through his racing career, eventually reaching a seminal time in 1967 where Gurney cemented his legacy as one of the top drivers to ever climb behind the wheel of a race car. In the span of a few months, Gurney raced at the Indianapolis 500, Le Mans, the Belgian Grand Prix, the Green Valley 300 Trans-Am race and the Monaco Grand Prix. All the while traveling to back and forth to Weslake to check on his new V12 engine’s development. Of course, that was also the year that, during his Le Mans celebration, Gurney sprayed his victory champagne on the crowd -- changing racing celebrations forever. After Gurney, Wesley Wren hops on mic and Rory talks about his first time at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The team also teases the race’s upcoming feature in Autoweek Magazine. The Daytona race leads to a small teaser about an upcoming Podcast discussion about the end of Grid Girls in Formula 1. Closing the show, Wesley talks about test driving the Subaru WRX STI Type RA and the Subaru BRZ tS.
On this episode of the Autoweek Podcast, host Rory Carroll joins Mike Pryson, Robin Warner and Graham Kozak to talk about the upcoming racing season. They speculate about the expected heavy hitters and discuss Jackie Chan’s DC Racing team’s inclusion of the race. A quick look at Dan Gurney’s life is also mentioned, but expect a more substantial Gurney episode in the future. After Pryson leaves, Wesley Wren hops on mic to talk about the hits from this year’s North American International Auto Show. The guys highlight Hyundai’s Veloster N before getting derailed by a cultural analysis of 1968’s “Bullitt.” After the team reach a conclusion about “Bullitt,” they dive back into the auto show. Trucks like the new Ram 1500 and the Ford Ranger were the talk of the show floor in Detroit, alongside the new G-Class. After the auto show, the team review the Kia Stinger.

It was a crazy week in NASCAR's silly season as the news just gets sillier by the day. First it was the Woods Brothers and Go Fas Racing announcing a deal that locks the Wood Brothers Racing team into every race in the 2018 season. However, the charter is still technically owned by Go Fas Racing, figure that one out. Then, on top of it, Go Fas Racing announced a partnership with Circle Sport Racing and Joe Falk. The team will utilize the charter from Circle Sport Racing. They also announced Joey Gase will run a second team part time in the Cup Series in addition to his duties as a full-time NASCAR XFINITY Series driver. The Gilliland's were in the news today as both Todd and David had some big announcements today. Todd will run a full-time Camping World Truck Series effort in Kyle Busch's No. 4 truck in 2018. However, Todd doesn't turn 18 until May 15, preventing him from running on the bigger tracks until then. His father David will drive the No. 4 truck at Daytona in addition, he will attempt to make his 8th Daytona 500 driving for Ricky Benton Racing. It's the team's first venture into the Cup Series after running several years in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Also, racing legend Dan Gurney passed away this week at the age of 86. We'll reflect on his life and career. Plus we'll take your phone calls at 917-889-8280!
Joe and David dicuss some new cars, pay tribute to an all-time great, and generally banter.

THIS is a hysterical Garage Hour, with all the back and forth gearhead tomfoolery you've come to expect from the best of the Garage Hour goons. So much good stuff. And Yes, you may have heard, this is the Chuck Norris episode, chock full of Chuck facts and witticisms that drive women crazy and cohosts mad... It's not all ball bearings, however, because it's the Garage Hour - we digress. There's local dining at Tiger Tiger, Russian shotguns, the new Viper versus the old one, Chuck Norris, turn signals, Evolutions and motorhomes, Chuck Norris, the Indiana report with Hoosier Eric, STi motor mounts, driving Tail of the Dragon, couches and Jerusalem, old kung fu asskickers and new art from David Lozeau, Chuck Norris, Dan Gurney, a tough guy montage, and the tale of sometime cohost Creature wrecking his Super Duty. Dirty Dave, Black Ryan, Garrett the Couch and Don't Die Brian help Hostus Maximus Justin Fort Chuck this one up. Soooooo much good stuff.
