He's written books on the Fab Four, gives Beatle tours in Liverpool, and had a prominent role in the documentary “Looking For Lennon”. David talks about the history and significance of Liverpool, the relationship of the city to the Beatles, and tells the back stories behind “Penny Lane” and “Strawberry Fields Forever”. My featured song in this episode is “I Wanna Be Your Girl” from the album East Side Sessions by my band Project Grand Slam. The BanterThe Guys talk about the drive of hospitality and it isn't what some folks say it is. The ConversationsThe Restaurant Guys welcome writer Genevieve Yam to discuss the decline in quality of Honeycrisp apples. Genevieve, who has investigated this issue, shares what happened and how we can keep other varieties from following suit. The Inside TrackThe Guys have been fans of Honeycrisp apples since the 1990s and even gave them as birthday gifts. Genevieve's article about the apple's origin, rise and “crapification” intrigued them so they had Genevieve on to tell them about it.“Dr. David Bedford and Dr. Jim Luby, two scientists working at the University of Minnesota's fruit breeding program came across a tree that was actually slated for the trash. Bedford was extremely curious about this tree. He thought that it had not been given a fair chance and decided to do a little bit of research and what he did changed the course of apple history because what would have ended up in the trash ultimately has become one of the most popular apple varieties here in the United States,” Genevieve Yam on The Restaurant Guys Podcast 2025BioGenevieve Yam is a writer and editor based in New York. After graduating with a degree in politics and a brief stint in the start-up world, she enrolled in the International Culinary Center in New York City and cooked at Blue Hill at Stone Barns and Per Se.  After that, she became a freelance food stylist, a recipe tester and editor for the new edition of The Essential New York Times Cookbook, a personal chef, and a contributor to various publications. 1st ANNIVERSARY SHOW! I'm rebroadcasting our three anniversary shows! This is our first one from March 2022.I started the podcast in March 2021. It was the depths of the pandemic. Musicians like me could neither perform nor even rehearse. I needed to find a creative outlet and someone suggested that I should look into starting a podcast. I had no idea what a podcast was; I had never even listened to one. But the more that I looked into it the more I became convinced that a podcast could provide a much deeper level of engagement than ordinary social media. Plus I felt that I had an interesting and inspiring story to tell. So I began the podcast. This 1st Anniversary episode features vignettes from a number of my first year guests: “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, America's most famous radio personality; Jim Peterik of the Ides of March and formerly with Survivor; Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad fame; John Lodge of the Moody Blues; Joey Dee of “Peppermint Twist” fame; and English classical composer Sarah Class. Plus several other guests including budding Egyptologist Sarah Kotlova; Garry Ridge, CEO of WD 40; David Bedford, Beatles Liverpool Tour Guide; Debbie Greenberg of The Cavern Club in Liverpool; podcasting star John Lee Dumas; and Reena Friedman's Better Call Daddy podcast. ---------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries! For more information and other episodes of the podcast click here. To subscribe to the podcast click here .To subscribe to our weekly Follow Your Dream Podcast email click here.To Rate and Review the podcast click here.“Dream With Robert”. Renowned British photographer Bill Zygmant and Beatles historian andauthor David Bedford have released a new book entitled “Where Did You Get That Shirt?”, featuring three decades' worth of Zygmant's film and rock photos. Zygmant's Beatles photos are considered so important that the Hard Day's Night Hotel in Liverpool displays them within a suite named after him. This brand-new book, designed by artist Paul Skellett, contains over 200 original photos taken by Zygmant – including 60 of the Beatles (as well as John Lennon and Yoko Ono) plus the first photos of Jimi Hendrix with The Experience in London – and many that have never been published before. Also included are shots of music legends such as the Rolling Stones, the Bee Gees, Mary Hopkin, Marc Bolan, Suzi Quatro, Madness, Bananarama and more.Bill Zygmant's passion for photography started at an early age seeing press photographers on newsreels photographing film stars. He began his career at the London Star before going on to work at the News Chronicle in Fleet Street - first on the picture desk and then in the darkroom. In 1966 Bill went freelance, photographing music and show business stars with his work being regularly published in the Musical Express, Billboard, Picture Post as well as british national newspapers and magazines. He has since worked as picture editor and a lecturer on film and television production.David Bedford trained as a biologist and was a scientific researcher until his love of reading, then writing, set him along the path to becoming an author. David has had 85 books traditionally published, which have been translated worldwide in 35 languages. They include the much-loved bestselling picture-book Big Bear Little Bear, and The Team series of football fiction for juniors. He has taught creativity, literacy and author techniques in schools around the world for ten years, and now combines his writing and teaching in his new personal publishing venture, ME & YOU BOOKS – where readers write. David Bedford gives us some insight into his book with Gary Popper. A great read!Ringo Starr wasn’t the fourth Beatle to join. He wasn’t even the last! Half a century and hundreds of books after the Beatles went their separate ways, “Finding The Fourth Beatle” has finally pieced together the untold story of the Fab Three’s long quest for a permanent drummer – and how close the problem came to ending their dreams on several occasions, including those of their manager, Brian Epstein! Thanks to their unrivalled network of sources Liverpool author’s David Bedford and Garry Popper have produced an in-depth investigation into the origins of the Fab Ones themselves, too. As a result “Finding The Fourth Beatle” reads like a thriller, mapping each crisis in the Beatles struggle for fame and fortune. It’s a roller-coaster story that tells it like it really was – a long and winding road paved by ruthless ambition and farce – none more vividly detailed than the panicked conspiracy to dump drummer Pete Best; one of darkest and longest controversies to engulf the band.

Join us as David Bedford gives us some great stories from his book "The Fab 104". Learn about Janice the Stripper, Arthur Pendleton and of course, the "Man with the flaming pie".The story of how the group went from being The Quarrymen to The Beatles runs a long and winding road through many different musicians and band members. During this time, they also provided backing for several singers and occasionally had guest musicians join them on stage. Also included in the list are important people who either taught them to play or had a direct influence on their performances. Each one of these one hundred and four people is included in the story. This is how The Beatles evolved from a group of friends playing skiffle music, calling themselves The Quarrymen (also spelled Quarry Men – there is no definitive way to spell it) to becoming the biggest band in the annals of popular music. The story begins in the summer of 1956 and takes you through to the end of 1962 when the final piece of the jigsaw, the addition of drummer Ringo Starr, saw The Fab Four completed.Check out the "Fab 104" and other great books at www.thebeatlesbookstore.comInstacart - Groceries delivered in as little as 1 hour. The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown features stripped down, deconstructed mixes of classic Beatles songs, live cuts, solo material, demos, and much more. By highlighting different instruments and vocals you will experience these songs in a way that you've never imagined.    For the 100th episode of The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown I decided to do things a bit differently and invited a few friends, who also happen to be esteemed Beatles authors, to pick two songs and tell me what it is that makes them do special. I've only had a guest on once before when my daughter Ella, a fantastic musician in her own right, co-hosted episode 71, the musical children of the Beatles.   As many of you can expect once you begin talking to a fellow Beatle fan, especially one who has written books about the group, the discussions can get pretty deep. Therefore episode 100 ended up being nearly three hours long. So in order to preserve the full conversations with each author I've split what was supposed to be one episode into three. So sit back and enjoy some Beatles related conversations and the selections of David Bedford, Andrew Jackson, and Ken Womack.

You may already know the author of Liddypool and The Fab 104 for his meticulous research in already well-trod grounds. But with his latest work, David Bedford reveals new revelations – some of them shocking. In Finding The Fourth Beatle, David brings a fresh interpretation and critical new analysis to Beatles scholarship, going where the evidence leads him regarding the truth behind Pete Best’s parting ways with the group, as well as the process of recruitment that (eventually) led to Ringo. There is also new light shed on the 18 (!) Beatle drummers, the Decca audition, Brian’s unsigned managerial contract and those who might have been Beatles – but weren’t. David is also working on an accompanying documentary and a companion CD release. June 2017 Bill Tutte played a crucial role in deciphering messages between Hitler and his high command. Yet he remains one of Bletchley Park’s unsung heroes. This little-known genius went straight from studying mathematics at Cambridge to the Government Code and Cypher School, where he used his analytical brilliance to help break what was believed to be an unbreakable code. His work also paved the way for the creation of the world’s first semi-programmable computer, Colossus. His breath-taking achievements are now celebrated in a new exhibition at Bletchley Park and, on the day of his centenary, it was launched with a symposium of talks about his life and work. We hear from the day’s speakers, who included the GCHQ Departmental Historian, Tony Comer, tireless Bill Tutte Memorial Fund campaigner, Claire Butterfield, David Bedford from Keele University and the BBC security correspondent, Gordon Corera. We also speak exclusively to Bill Tutte’s family, who were there to soak up the celebration, about what it’s like to learn that a kindly uncle was an unsung war hero. How much does the way food is described influence what we eat? Superstar apple breeder David Bedford tells us why he spends up to nine months finding the perfect name for his new creations. Can words be too enticing? We hear the story of the humble Patagonian toothfish, whose re-branding success story nearly led to its extinction. President of the Gourmand World Cookbook awards Edouard Cointreau takes us on a tour of the seemingly insatiable global market for cookbooks. But has our love for writing about food gone too far? Language specialist Steven Poole tells presenter Angela Saini why some restaurant menu jargon infuriates him. Plus food writer Fuschia Dunlop shares her reflections on Chinese menus that attract diners with such adjectives as 'slimy', 'gristly' and 'glutinous'.
