Lee Tran Lam talks to Alice Ivy about her second album, Don't Sleep, which was nominated for an Australian Music Prize. The Melbourne artist finished the record just as the world went into lockdown last year. She talks about collaborating with local greats Thelma Plum, Ecca Vandal and more, plus her international songwriting sessions with Cadence Weapon and other overseas collaborators on the record. She also covers the surreal way her Ecca Vandal track, "In My Mind", blew up around the world thanks to an Apple ad, while she was stuck in Melbourne during its intense 100+ day lockdown. This album was created at airports, on airplanes, in sweaty basements, in studios where the power cut out and has a million stories behind it. TRACKS INCLUDE: ‘Champagne Late Nights' ‘Sunrise feat. Cadence Weapon' ‘In My Mind feat. Ecca Vandal' ‘Ticket To Heaven feat. Thelma Plum' ‘Don't Sleep feat. Imbi & Boi' ‘I'll Find It feat. Odette' ‘Sweetest Love feat. Montaigne & Bertie Blackman' ‘All Hit Radio feat. Teef & Tessa' ‘Better Man feat. Benjamin Joseph' ‘My Turn feat. SWSH' ‘Money feat. Dijahsb' ‘All In For You feat. Ngaiire' ‘Gold feat. Bertie Blackman'. This episode is guest hosted by Lee Tran Lam, host of FBi Radio's Australian music show, Local Fidelity. Catch Lee Tran every Sunday at 7pm. My guest today is Stan Bicknell. Stan is a NZ born drummer who for the past 13 years has based himself out of Melbourne Australia. In this time he has toured and recorded with many artists locally and internationally including 48May, Miami Horror, Tonight Alive, Ecca Vandal, and Kimbra. During his time with Kimbra, Stan played on her acclaimed debut album ‘Vows'. His Motown grooves can be heard on the track ‘Cameo Lover' which won both an Aria and APRA award, as well as playing on her now iconic ‘Sing Sing' sessions on YouTube, clocking up millions of views. Stan has a strong online presence, which in 2018 was noticed by Jared Falk, the owner and creator of Canadian based drum education platform ‘Drumeo'. Jared invited Stan on to Drumeo where he spent two days performing and recording songs and courses based on his ability behind the kit, and his unique single kick technique that has since taken the drumming community by storm. Stan is a frequent performer at drum festivals as well as where he likes to share his unique approach to the drums, and his strong mindset that goes with it. Now based back in Papamoa NZ, Stan is excited to be back home. Already he's been called in as backup for NZ drum and bass juggernauts, Shapeshifter, as well as kicking off a couple of new projects himself. Stan's a coffee nut, an incredibly gifted musician and just a bloody nice guy. So here he is, Ladies and gentleman. Its Mr Stan Bicknell. This conversation was recorded 10/02/2021. Intro song: "Hey Zeus" by Stan Bicknell and Josh De La Victoria. Welcome to HOBO SAPIEN w/Grant Sharkey. This is the start of a project that will grow and grow. I discuss last Saturday's gig in Ryde, the purpose of this podcast series and whether it's better to join a cult that wears dungarees instead of flowing white gowns. Then it's time for my first guest:To kick off, I chat with my long-time producer/engineer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/wizard, Dan Parkinson. He's a 'Yes' man. During the recordings of my albums Dan is the person I throw an idea at and he makes it happen - or says 'nah' - either way, he's most valued on this journey. He's the lynch pin of The Dirty Dead and was recruited to supply guitar duty last year for Ecca Vandal as they toured the UK and then Europe in support of the mighty Incubus. He also produces many, many local artists from and around his home town of Dandover, Danpshire (Andover, Hampshire). I like him a lot - I hope you do too. He's currently playing guitar with LYONESS.Get in touch: Email | Insta | Facebook | YoutubeSupport: Patreon | Bandcamp See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

She released her first single ‘Battle Royale’ in 2015, since then Ecca Vandal has been an artist to watch on the contemporary punk and heavy rock scene. Ecca was born in South Africa to Sri Lankan parents, but grew up in Melbourne, Australia due to refugee crisis and apartheid. Her cultural heritage shaped her approach to music which contains genres such as jazz, punk and hiphop mixed with a raw and immediate gut reaction to creation. Dynaudio met Ecca Vandal at Smukfest for a talk about her music and how it comes to place.

This is a Man's Man's World, sang Renee Geyer back in 1974. And despite equal numbers of women studying, making and showing a love for music, there's still a vast inequality in the Australian music industry to this day. It's a story often told, but in a brilliant new doco “Her Sound Her Story”, these tales are captured also as a celebration of the scene we have (both on and off the stage). Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore and Michelle Grace Hunder are the filmmaker and producers behind this film, which may have begun as a photography project but grew quickly as soon as they saw how large and consistent these narratives still were. Everyone from Tina Arena to Ecca Vandal, Missy Higgins to Mojo Juju, Kate Ceberano to Thelma Plum feature in this brilliant doco. From backyards to baths, stages to screen, Claudia and Michelle share the stories behind Her Sound Her Story. Ella Hooper - 'Shard' Mojo Juju - 'Native Tongue' Ecca Vandal - 'Your Orbit (ft. Ecca Vandal, the Melbourne based singer songer writer, burst on the scene in the last 12 months. Not a lot is known about Ecca so this interview is gold. We had this chat earlier in the year just before she released her second single Battle Royal. We delve into her past and the influencing factors that have led her to where she is today. Ecca also shares what and who inspires her music as well as some valuable lessons she’s learnt. During the interview we had rain, thunder, trains and crickets, so please excuse the occasion background sounds. Find more content at anatomyof.tv or follow us at @anatomyoftv.
