Since 2021, the Hudson Valley Writers Guild has hosted the Year in Review poetry event to highlight the poets and writers in the area while looking back at the year that was. In 2022, I was joined on stage by five other local writers for the second annual Year in Review at the Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio. Today we are going to hear from one of those writers, poet, author, educator, and artist Elizabeth Gordon. Elizabeth K. Gordon is a college literature instructor based in Cohoes, New York, and the author of two books: "Love Cohoes" and "Walk with Us." A pioneer in the local poetry scene, she was a member of the Capital District's first slam team, Nitty Gritty Slam, representing them at the National Poetry Slam and the Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWPS). Later, she competed at WOWPS on behalf of New York City's Urbana Slam. Beyond performing, Elizabeth has served as a writing coach and mentor, most recently guiding Troy's Café Euphoria slam team. In addition to her literary work, she is also a painter specializing in abstract art. The 2024 Year in Review will take place on Saturday, December 7, at 1:00 pm at The Linda on Central Ave. in Albany. This year's show will feature a team poetry slam with Troy's Slam Euphoria, The Dirty Gerund, Slam Free or Die from New Hampshire, the Boston Poetry Slam, and more battling it out on stage.

After that, on the Albany Comedy interview Corner, Juan Pantaleon welcomes Local Comedian Alana Gill to the program. In September 2011, she came across an event listed on the Albany Poets website that looked interesting that was taking place at Valentines - a gritty rock and roll club in Albany - and she decided to check it out. What she didn't know was that open mic and poetry slam would change her writing forever. At that open mic, she read two poems composed from the text on the back of an aspirin bottle & Murphy's Oil Soap. And the rest, as they say, is history.

So many women are afraid of being selfish. The fact is you need to be more selfish. Say what? Yep, you need to be more self-centered BUT not in the shadow way you have witnessed. Being “healthy selfish” allows you the ability to focus on your needs, take loving care of your precious heart, and open up to more love. On this week's episode of Midlife Love Out Loud I had the pleasure of interviewing Amy Elizabeth Gordon on Radical Self Care and how you can cultivate it so you can call in more love. If you want a more fun, joy-filled life filled with love, you'll love the tips Amy Elizabeth shared. Amy Elizabeth Gordon is a published author, relationship architect, and compassion activist. A lifelong student, Amy is continually learning both personally and professionally. Her professional training includes a Master's Degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University, Nationally Certified Addictions Counselor, Certified Imago International Relationship Therapist, and Certified Parent Coach. She has spent several decades advocating for big compassion, healthy relationships, and holistic wellbeing. Amy has learned to thrive, advocate for personal liberation, and be a powerful source of transformation for a united world. Additionally, Amy lives in Hawaiʻi and a founding member of a Training program preserving indigenous life ways. As a relational health coach, she takes a stand for her clients to cultivate maximum health with Self, Other and Spirit. She is a “nudge master” and invites us to step into command central of our nervous systems and reside in our tender hearts in a way that is indeed miraculous. Modern Architecture and Climate explores how leading architects of the twentieth century incorporated climate-mediating strategies into their designs, and shows how regional approaches to climate adaptability were essential to the development of modern architecture. Focusing on the period surrounding World War II—before fossil-fuel powered air-conditioning became widely available—Daniel Barber brings to light a vibrant and dynamic architectural discussion involving design, materials, and shading systems as means of interior climate control. He looks at projects by well-known architects such as Richard Neutra, Le Corbusier, Lúcio Costa, Mies van der Rohe, and Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, and the work of climate-focused architects such as MMM Roberto, Olgyay and Olgyay, and Cliff May. Drawing on the editorial projects of James Marston Fitch, Elizabeth Gordon, and others, he demonstrates how images and diagrams produced by architects helped conceptualize climate knowledge, alongside the work of meteorologists, physicists, engineers, and social scientists. Barber describes how this novel type of environmental media catalyzed new ways of thinking about climate and architectural design. Extensively illustrated with archival material, Modern Architecture and Climate: Design Before Air Conditioning (Princeton UP, 2020) provides global perspectives on modern architecture and its evolving relationship with a changing climate, showcasing designs from Latin America, Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Africa. This timely and important book reconciles the cultural dynamism of architecture with the material realities of ever-increasing carbon emissions from the mechanical cooling systems of buildings, and offers a historical foundation for today’s zero-carbon design. Daniel A. Barber is an associate professor of architecture at the University of Pennsylvania Weitzman School of Design. Nushelle de Silva is a PhD candidate in the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her work examines museums and exhibitions, and how the dissemination of visual culture is politically mediated by international organizations in the twentieth century.
