Valeri Vu, Founding Partner at Ansible Ventures, and Jeremy Au discussed: 1. Vietnam Likes Trump Win: Valerie analyzed the positive local sentiment towards Trump's recent U.S. presidential win in 2024. She highlighted the $100 billion trade surplus Vietnam holds with the U.S. which brings potential American tariff risks, with a potential Vietnamese counterproposal to balance the trade relationship by purchasing defense and technology goods, such as aircraf. Trump's hawkish stance on China indirectly benefits Vietnam by encouraging manufacturing shifts, but also brings challenges for maintaining stable trade relationships. Valerie highlighted Vietnam's “bamboo diplomacy,” referencing recent efforts by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to engage with both the U.S. and China. 2. China Factory Relocation: The discussion focused on Vietnam's growing role as a manufacturing hub, fueled by U.S. tariffs of up to 60% on Chinese goods. Valerie detailed how relocations, including consumer electronics factories, are concentrated in industrial parks in Bac Ninh (North) and Binh Duong (South), benefiting Vietnam's manufacturing share, which currently stands at 2–3% globally. However, challenges persist, such as workforce skill gaps, rising coal consumption, and environmental concerns like air pollution. Vietnam is targeting growth in high-tech sectors, such as AI and software, to diversify its economic base. She also predicted that domestic consumption in Vietnam, currently sluggish due to lingering effects of a real estate crisis, will recover in 2025 as the economy stabilizes. 3. Startup Protectionism & Opportunities: Valerie outlined how local startups struggle to compete with international e-commerce giants like Shopee, TikTok Shop, and Temu, which dominate Vietnam's market through aggressive pricing and logistics advantages. Local platforms such as Tiki and Sendo have seen their market shares eroded, a stark contrast to Indonesia, where protectionist policies like banning Temu have shielded domestic players. She highlighted the rise of Vietnamese diaspora founders, like Pham Nhat Vuong of Vingroup, who are returning to Vietnam with global experience to build competitive ventures. Valerie stressed the need for startups to go global to thrive, citing successful Vietnamese brands like Trung Nguyen Coffee. She noted that SMEs face significant challenges as global competition intensifies, but startups targeting cross-border opportunities, especially in Southeast Asia, show promise. === Valerie founded Ansible Ventures, a seed fund dedicated to Vietnam in 2022. Previously, she served as Vietnam Country Head for Venturra Capital, where she led over a dozen investments from 2020 to early 2022. From 2016 to 2019, she worked at Deloitte U.S. as a senior consultant where she advised hedge funds, private equity funds and other investment management clients. Valerie graduated magna cum laude in 2016 from Temple University's Fox School of Business with a major in accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Pennsylvania. She also founded Career Opportunities in Vietnam (COVN), providing advice to aspiring professionals and co-hosted Forward Vietnam Podcast. === Watch, listen or read the full insight at www.bravesea.com/blog/ vietnam-likes-trump Nonton, dengar atau baca wawasan lengkapnya di www.bravesea.com/blog/ vietnam-likes-trump 观看、收听或阅读全文,请访问 www.bravesea.com/blog/ vietnam-likes-trump Xem, nghe hoặc đọc toàn bộ thông tin chi tiết tại www.bravesea.com/blog/ vietnam-likes-trump Get transcripts, startup resources & community discussions at www.bravesea.com WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VakR55X6BIElUEvkN02e TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jeremyau Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeremyauz Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeremyau LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/bravesea

Drastically improve your process for hiring people AND applying for a job. Starting today. Post-COVID the science of interviewing has advanced radically. Today's guest, Anna Papalia, is a career influencer and TikTok Interview Expert that lays so many game-changing truths on us. Because 90% of hiring managers aren't trained on how to interview, they fall prey to their implicit bias when judging candidates and making hiring decisions. Job seekers, equally as mystified by the process, follow stale advice, memorizing rote answers that aren't true to who they are. Interviewing needs to innovate to meet current expectations and the shortage of top talent. Anna shares so many actional nuggets from her INTERVIEWOLOGY book and training program that help you see your personal interview archetype, and then that of others. Our biases are born from our preferences. She calls “charmers” those who see an interview as a performance—it's a stage and they enjoy being the star of the show. Another type, Challengers, see an interview as a cross-examination, and want their questions answered. Examiners are those who see an interview as a pass/fail test and Harmonizers see an interview as a tryout for a team that they want to join. You're going to want to take notes to capture these high ROI interviewing insights like:

So much institutional knowledge lives in the minds of individual staff and faculty, creating a reliance on them from others for information. In addition to creating inefficiencies, this practice is problematic as institutional knowledge walked out the door as our colleagues departed throughout the "Great Resignation." In this conversation, we sit down with Will Fenton to explore the importance of documenting policies, practices, and procedures, and building a shared culture of data transparency and buy-in. With deeper collaboration and a shared resource of critical information, we can empower individuals to get the information they need quickly and efficiently, while also creating a strong foundation for new employee onboarding. Will Fenton is the Associate Director of the Fox School of Business at Temple University and previously worked in progressive graduate enrollment roles at the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. This episode of The NAGAP Report was hosted, produced, and edited by Marcus Hanscom.

How can coffee change the world? According to Saxby's CEO and Founder, Nick Bayer, it begins with educating young entrepreneurs. This week Laura and Nick discuss how Saxby's is empowering young people to embrace the humanity of the hospitality industry and build a business that creates an impact.   Here are a few things you'll learn during this conversation: How Saxby's created an academic experience while building real businesses Why every young entrepreneur needs a course in critical thinking skills for business How to develop your empathy skills Why Saxby's made B Corp status a priority What you can do to hold your team accountable to your mission and values   During the 24-Hour Influence Challenge, Nick encourages you to respond to all digital communication within 24 hours and evaluate how it impacts trust and relationship building.   Nick Bayer has always been in the business of bringing people together, whether it's as one of Philadelphia Business Journal's "Most Admired CEOs" or as a consummate team captain since Little League. So when he created Saxbys in 2005, Nick never really considered it to be a coffee company — instead, it's a social impact company fueled by amazing food, beverage, and hospitality. Saxbys has since grown from one corner café to a nearly 30-unit, Philadelphia-based business with a singular mission: Make Life Better.   For Nick Bayer, “making life better" began by fostering an O.D.D (outgoing, detail-oriented, and disciplined) team, committed to the betterment of the communities it serves and aligned by their shared entrepreneurial spirit and Saxbys' core values. Today, that team spans over 500 members across the Northeast that represent the change-makers of tomorrow. To that point, Bayer introduced Saxbys' pioneering Experiential Learning Program (ELP) in 2015 in partnership with Drexel University — the nation's first entirely student-run cafe where students earn full academic credit and wages through a university cooperative education program.   Bayer's vision for the program is to embolden the next generation of entrepreneurs, providing undergrad students with tangible experience as a supplement to traditional classroom learning. In five short years, one ELP cafe has blossomed to a dozen, with five more partnerships opening in the Fall of 2021.   Nick is currently the Entrepreneur in Residence at Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, an adjunct professor at Drexel University and the Executive in Residence at Temple University's Fox School of Business.   He serves on the Board of The Franklin Institute, Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region, the Community College of Philadelphia, Drexel University's Close School of Entrepreneurship and Drexel's Steinbright Career Development Center, as well as being a Corporate Council Member for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He has been recognized as the "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, EY's "Social Entrepreneur of the Year" and among the “100 Most Powerful Business Leaders in Philadelphia” by the Philadelphia Business Journal.   He resides in Center City Philadelphia with his wife Haley and son Luke.   You can connect with Nick in the following ways: Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nickbayer6/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itsnickbayer/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/nickbayer Company Website: https://www.saxbyscoffee.com/   To learn more about Dr. Laura Sicola and how mastering influence can impact your success go to https://www.speakingtoinfluence.com/quickstart and download the quick start guide for mastering the three C's of influence.   You can connect with Laura in the following ways:   LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drlaurasicola LinkedIn Business Page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/vocal-impact-productions/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/VocalImpactProductions Facebook: Vocal Impact Productions Twitter: @Laura Sicola  Instagram: @VocalImpactProductionsSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
