They immediately recognize the vastness of the topic, agreeing that it could easily span multiple episodes. AI's influence isn't just limited to game development—it's becoming a part of everyday life, from phone algorithms to even traffic lights. The discussion touches on how AI is already embedded in gaming in ways people might not expect, shaping both development processes and gameplay experiences. Nick playfully warns against the dangers of recursive AI implementation, joking about the possibility of a time bubble ripping open or a gun that fires typewriters, adding a bit of levity to the conversation. Ultimately, the hosts decide to dedicate more time to the topic in their next episode, while still covering any major news. AI's role in gaming is evolving rapidly, and they're eager to explore its implications further.

This 4Xchange podcast thing is already seeing a total revamp of its format. Instead of just news, each week we'll have a topic that we dive deep in to. First up, the boys discuss how'd they'd create the perfect 4X and soon realize how in over their heads they truly are. Recent 4X news items: Stellaris Federations is out. Met with mostly favorable reviews on Steam. Our review was unfortunately taken down due to plagiarism. Imperiums: Greek Wars looking for beta testers. Inquire within. We featured the first-ever look at Godking: Master of the Rituals gameplay. It appears to take some influence from both Master of Magic and the Dominions series and is pretty darn promising. Thea 2: The Shattering received update Build 0657, which added a bunch of new content and fixes. Amplitude Studios showed off Humankind's territory claiming system in this video. Dominions 5 received a huge update in the form of version 5.4.1, which among many, many other things, added a new nation, new heroes, new rituals, new units, new…everything! Check it out here! What mechanics would we steal from other 4X games to make the “one great 4X”? Endless Legend's faction asymmetry? Colonization's end game? Alpha Centauri's setting? Ascendancy's racial active abilities? Sword of the Stars' different stardrives or its random tech tree? Distant Worlds' scale? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/explorminate/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/explorminate/support

There are games to be played, so the GameBytes Show Team has ASSEMBLED! (Except for Jeremy.) What games have we played, For Great Justice? Well: LeGrande starts us off with Shovel Knight Treasure Trove in general, and Plague of Shadows in particular, Mega Man X, and the delights of a hacked SNES Classic. Dale continues with Heavenly Sword and Endless Space and Legend (that's TWO Endless games). Jerod caps us off with Dreamfall Chapters (check our Twitch.tv channel for an ongoing playthrough) and various Jerody things! Get in, get out, get GameBytes and get gud. We put the call out to our Patreon backers: What game would you like us to circle back on? The winner of a heated battle was Amplitude's Endless Space 2. Released in May of 2017, Endless Space 2 took some of the learnings of a 3MA favorite, Endless Legend, and applied them to their original dust-using space 4X Endless Space. How has the game fared since launch? What is the Academy? Do we really need it? What does Amazon buying Whole Foods mean for hero availability? And, seriously - where are these pirates getting all this tech?
What time is it? It's GAMES time! On this episode, LeGrande takes up the Mass Effect Andromeda Mantle. He compares his experience with Dale, who has completed his journey as Pathfinder and gives his final thoughts on it. Dale also digs into the Tamriel-themed CCG, The Elder Scrolls: Legends. Jeremy riffs on that, and continues the games he's been playing... He played Cave Story+ on Switch for his first time ever, and also delves deep into the complex systems of outer space 4X game Endless Legend 2. There's also some unintelligible whistling. Intro: "On to Grasstown (Remastered)" - Cave Story+, by Pixel Outro: "Deckbuilder" - The Elder Scrolls: Legends, by Bradley Derrick Check out our Discord community at https://discord.gg/ZTzKH8y
It's a giant-sized gulp of Three Moves Ahead as Rob, Rowan, Fraser, and Sean "The Game Horatio" Sands discuss Endless Legend 2. Amplitude Games brought a competent - if not a bit bland - entry into the space 4X pantheon with Endless Space and followed up with the brilliant Endless Legend. Does Endless Space 2 continue their march toward greatness? Amplitude have expanded their writing and storytelling but unfortunately neglected the "QA" section of the tech tree in favor of ballistic weapons.
Kole, Ben, Dennis, and Jala talk about all kinds of game remake news, Blaster Master Zero, and we ask you which game worlds you would be stuck in. The Brief: Fans are remaking Red Dead Redemption in the Grand Theft Auto V engine. Starcraft Remastered is coming soon. Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey announced. Warframe is getting a rhythm-based character. The Multiplayer: You are stuck in the last game you played. What game is it, and who would you bring? The Grind: Kole: Switch impressions. Blaster Master Zero. Bomberman R. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Dennis: Horizon: Zero Dawn. Endless Legend. Starbound. Jala: The Room. The Room 2. Torment: Tides of Numenera. Ben: Horizon: Zero Dawn. Rocket League.

Back in the saddle (again) for the games we've been playing in the past week! This week Rob and Fraser welcome special guest Jeff Spock, Narrative Director at Amplitude Studios. The Endless Series has garnered a large amount of praise with its impressive debut in Endless Space, the unique gameplay in Dungeons of the Endless, and the master class of 4X gaming in Endless Legend. Jeff goes over the challenges of writing for 4X and strategy games and how the universe has changed from Endless Space to Endless Legend. Endless Legend has changed quite a bit since launch and Jeff explains how the series has evolved and where it might go in Endless Space 2. This topic was chosen in a poll by our Patreon backers.
In the last pre-Halloween "games we're playing" segment, the crew dons the spooky/sexy costume versions of themselves to talk about exactly what's been on their plate! LeGrande drills into the characters of Gears of War 4 on PC, Dale shows his respect to Endless Legend, and Jeremy plays that not-so-new Civilization game, as well as tricking and treating in Costume Quest 2. Is it a podcast or a bowl of peeled grapes? OoooOOOoo!
This fortnight on Topic Chunder, the internet is used to make terrible mistakes, like this sh*t. Chris rambles about Card Hunter and Endless Legend and everybody complains about the Tomb Raider reboot. Also something about a boring Paradox space game but who cares about that really.

This week, we peer very critically at Firaxis' so-called sequel to Civilization V and its expansion, Brave New World, the much-hyped 'successor', 2014's Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth. Beyond Earth was promised as not only a sci-fi successor to the mainline Civ series but also as a spiritual successor to 1999's Alpha Centauri, a promise that we have some pretty damning beliefs about. From my humble origins pecking around Beyond Earth, it immediately became clear that something else would be necessary for my full step forward in the 4X sphere, and Rock, Paper, Shotgun's GoTY '14 awards happened to make it very clear just where that fix might be, a potential diamond in the rough from indie developer Amplitude Studios, a tiny ex-Ubisoft Parisian team working one indie darling after another through the Unity framework, and tying together all of their games' lore no less. That gem is indeed late 2014's Endless Legend, released just one month prior to Beyond Earth to quiet rave acclaim, and its subsequent minor add-on, Guardians in 2015. From the moment I first loaded up EL, it was clear these two games were meant to be contrasted, from their combat to their tech trees to their soundtracks, and that's exactly what we're here today to do; in a somewhat messy and mildly unorganized fashion, we sit down and talk about exactly what makes these two games. You'll benefit most from a passing knowledge of the Civilization series, but it isn't required, and knowledge of Endless Legend is absolutely not required whatsoever - it is new, after all! Rob Zacny, Fraser Brown, Rowan Kaiser, and Troy "You Say 'Two Piers', I say 'Paradox'" Goodfellow talk about all the terrific and not-so-terrific things that happened in strategy gaming in 2014. Endless Legend appears to win based on the metric of time discussed and we all learn what Rowan really thinks about his cat.
We take a look back at Halo 3: ODST and then dive into Dungeon of the Endless, Endless Legend, and check in on GamerGate. If you have any question or comments or want to hear what we think about a particular game, please email us at podcast@bigbadaboomgames.com and we'll respond to them on the show!

Fraser Brown and Rowan Kaiser join Troy "Restart" Goodfellow to talk about Endless Legend. Most of them agree that Endless Space was good... but not great. Does Endless Legend pick up the slack and become a game for the ages? One thing is certain: it sure is purty.
We mourn Playstation Home and Titan, talk about Steam curation, Broken Age, and Endless Legend, and discuss the scourge of pre-order bonuses.
