Bicurious are Gavin Purcell (Drums) and Taran Plouzané (Guitars/Vox); a confused, loud two-piece from Dublin, Ireland. They've built a loyal fanbase through extensive touring and have won over crowds both at home and abroad, establishing themselves as a recognizable force on the European rock scene. Bicurious released their second album Your Life is Over Now… on the 4th October 2024 via Big Scary Monsters. The record, which was created over 18 months, three countries and five recording studios, draws influence from the likes of Biffy Clyro, Reuben and Thrice, and is a much more lyrical body of work than Bicurious' previous material, as the band tread new sonic ground. The funding of the album was made possible by a crowdfunding campaign, through which fans helped the band raise over €9000. Thematically, the album explores the various facets of the idea of family, and as one can tell from their crowdfunding efforts, their fans play a crucial role in the band's idea of a family. Letty chats with Gavin and Taran about their progress so far, the new album and influences before Bicurious hit the stage to jam filled Grand Social on the first leg of their Irish tour. This week on AI For Humans, we get deeper into the news around Google's new Gemini AI which is supposedly five times more powerful than GPT-4, discuss Elon Musk testing Tesla's new Full Self Driving AI, Kevin got sent on a wild goose chase by the AI model Pi and then we meet three potential AI Presidential Candidates, one of whom will we will attempt to run for President in 2024. It gets weird, folks sorry ahead of time. Kevin Pereira and Gavin Purcell are your hosts for this episode and all the other ones you may or may not have heard. What is Google Gemini? Google Gemini is the upcoming new AI model from the now very serious AI team under Demis Hassabis (formerly head of Deep Mind). This week a new report came out in Semianalysis that says it's going to be 5x the power of GPT-4 but no one is exactly sure what that means. What is Pi? Pi is a large language model that we are fond of for its amazing ability to quickly answer you when asking questions over voice-to-voice within the iPhone app. While it's amazingly quick at getting you an answer, we've found that it's less and less reliable the more you ask it to do. How exactly did we create the AI Presidential Candidates? As we discuss in the episode, Kevin and I worked on a prompt with ChatGPT (GPT-4) to create a character that had multiple facets and also had a lot of specific asks (platform, stance on issues, etc). We then plugged the exact same prompt into GPT-4, Anthropic's Claude 2 and Meta's LLAMA 2 to get the different results. This week on AI For Humans, we're diving into the world of videogame AI Agents, taking a tour of GLIF, an easy-to-understand generative AI playground & gazing into the newest hyper-realistic HeyGen digital avatars. We're debunking that rumor about OpenAI going broke and exploring how Doctors + AI are now early detecting 20% more cancers than before! And we put GPT-4 to the test in Last Com-AI-c Stand and show just how terrible it still is at writing jokes. Join your hosts Kevin Pereira, Gavin Purcell, and this week's co-host Eunice, a senior citizen AI who's been around since the early days of computing and loves Kevin, for a wild ride of AI adventure. ***WE GOT A SPONSOR*** Visit Supermanage.AI/humans and sign up for the waitlist to support the show and learn more about this very cool AI management software. What is GLIF? GLIF is a brand new, hands-on AI playground where you can experiment with generative multi-media projects. Essentially, you make forumlas of how you want your AI to turn out, from images to words and more! https://glif.app/glifs What are HeyGen's Hyper-realistic Digital Avatars? We'll discuss the advancements in digital avatars, featuring HeyGen's technology. HeyGen has been around for a bit making digital avatars to use for marketing or personal use. But CEO Joshua Xu unveiled the next level this week and it has us questioning wether or not we'll even be able to differentiate between avatar and real human in the future. What is Last Com-AI-c Standing? First, we're sorry. Second, we send three figures from history, powered by ChatGPT (Shakespeare, Cleopatra & Napoleon), to see which one can write the funniest jokes! Spoiler: They're all pretty bad but still entertaining. This week on AI For Humans we dig into Remini, the app everyone's using for LinkedIn Selfies, Kevin went in on MetaGPT, a new *working* AI Agent program, then we talk about the Dungeons & Dragons AI art controversy, somehow discuss Ed Sheeran's take on AI and ultimately we play judges as two AIs try to hash out their issues in Small ClAIms court. Kevin Pereira and Gavin Purcell are your hosts for this episode and all the other ones you may or may not have heard. WE GOT A SPONSOR Visit Supermanage.AI/humans and sign up for the waitlist to support the show and learn more about this very cool AI managment software. What is Remini? It's a new paid app that lets you make LinkedIn selfies easily. And while you can likely do this for yourself cheaper, this does make it easy. Of course, Gavin used it to create selfies of Guy Fieri. What is MetaGPT? MetaGPT is a brand new AI agent program that actually works and can excute smaller code projects unlike some previous AI stuff from before (AutoGPT & BabyAGI). Kevin used it to make a very dank hangman game. What is GPT Bot? GPT Bot is OpenAI's public scraping bot for the web which they just announced this week. It's a big deal less for what it is and more so for the fact that they told everyone they were doing it. This week on AI For Humans we dive into ChatGPT's Custom Instructions, get semi-gaslit by Pi AI, conjure up a bunch of Future AI news using GPT-4 and, finally, have our first real live human interview with Coqui.AI's Josh Meyer! Kevin Pereira and Gavin Purcell are your hosts for this episode and all the other ones you may or may not have heard. What are ChatGPT's Custom Instructions? Custom Instructions are a very cool way to use ChatGPT so that you can always prime it in a specific way and you don't always have to tell it a bunch of stuff before you get the results you want. We, of course, used it give us a nice, random track from Brazilan Funk of the 1970s. What is Pi AI? We've featured Pi before - it's a voice-to-voice AI app that is remarkable in how good it is at carrying on a conversation and additionaly, somehow, has very good up-to-date information that none of the other LLMs have. It also seems to have a not-so-great filter on what it should and shouldn't say. What is Coqui.ai? Coqui.AI is a very cool start-up that's specializing in text-to-voice prompting and has a custom model that allows for companies (specifically video game companies) to create a large library of digital voices for their characters. Josh Meyer, our guest, was a member of the Mozilla team and left to co-found Coqui with his partners. Welcome to 'AI For Humans,' your light-hearted guide to the sometimes serious world of Generative AI. Your hosts, Gavin Purcell and Kevin Periera, promise to keep things insightful yet (mostly) entertaining. Also, they are not robots. GPT-Author Writes Hot Dog City Novel Kevin dove into GPT-Author which is a program that trained an AI to write a novel and we turned it onto the story of Hot Dog City. While it gets some points for alliteration, it has a long way to go to be even close to human authorship but we get into the ramifications. Our friendly co-host Gash reads a section from it for us with his usual panache. (GPT-Author segment starts at 43:35) We also get into: Dumb Things On The Day Visla: A ChatGPT plug-in that allows you to make weird marketing videos for basically anything. We do dumb things. Hyperwrite Assistant: Kevin not-so-dumbly plans out his week using an AI agent that actually works. Midjourney pan feature: Gavin uses the just released Midjourney pan feature (expanding out the picture right and left) to make more dogs playing poker and gets a big surprise. The News: OpenAI Goes on a World Tour: OpenAI comes back from it's world tour with a write-up of what it learned & Gavin & Kevin talk about the power of ChatGPT worldwide. Terminator on Terminators: Arnold Schwarzenneger talks AI and about how Terminators may already be here. (A full transcript of this episode will be available soon on FollowFridayPodcast.com. Please check back later!) When he set out to make a podcast, Emmy-winning writer and TV producer Gavin Purcell thought about the last time he took a chance on a new medium, in the early days of blogging and YouTube. "I was really interested in Japanese TV," he says. "YouTube was like this weird wild west where like all this stuff was getting uploaded, and I started paying attention to it. And then I started a blog and the blog got really successful and it almost became like a completely separate part of my life." The blog didn't become his career, but creating it taught Gavin the value of following our passions, because "they will open up so much more in our brains and introduce things that could be something, a bigger part of our lives." His podcast, https://waytoointerested.com/ (Way Too Interested), unites his friends and celebrity guests — the people who are "way too interested" in a passion or hobby — with experts who can answer all their burning questions about that obsession. Today on Follow Friday, Gavin talks about some of the fascinating people he follows online: Writer and poetry lover https://twitter.com/_zeets (Zito Madu); Twitch streamer and "VTuber" https://www.youtube.com/c/CodeMiko/videos (Code Miko); bestselling author and podcaster https://twitter.com/SheaSerrano (Shea Serrano); and NFT artist and educator https://twitter.com/bryanbrinkman (Bryan Brinkman). The next show comes at a regular pace, and there’s no room for a “plan B” when the ideas just aren’t flowing. You must deliver, every day. Gavin Purcell (showrunner and writer for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, I Love You America with Sara Silverman) knows this world well. As a 13-time Emmy nominee (and multiple-time winner), and a key collaborator with TV’s biggest names, he has helped create some of the most beloved moments in recent TV history. In this conversation, we discuss the importance of systems, why we need to get rid of the “romantic” notion of creating for a living, how to adapt when things go off-plan, specific tools and methods that he uses to produce work every day, and resources he relies on to help him stay fresh and creative.
