Minutes after the school day ends, students from Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis County Missouri, gather to watch the end of a fight between two teen girls. Kaylee Gain and Maurnice DeClue square off and DeClue quickly gets the upper hand, pulling Gain to the ground. DeClue pummels Gain in the head and upper body. As Gain is on her back on the pavement, a bystander tries to intervene by trying to get the unnamed girl off Kaylee Gain. The bystander is quickly rushed by two other girls who push her back from the fight and begin a separate fight of their own while Gain is being pounded by a closed fist to the head and upper body, DeClue proceeds to pull Kaylee Gain's head about 2 feet above the concrete, then slamming Gain's head into the cement. The first hit renders Kaylee Gain unable to defend herself as her assailant quickly pulls her back up off the concrete and lifting her head up further than the first time, smashes the head of Kaylee Gain back into the cement again. The sound of the back of her head hitting concrete is such a sickening thud, observers realize something terrible has happened. The unnamed attacker as well as those who have observed the beating move on to other fights taking place while Kaylee Gain is left alone, unconscious on the pavement. As EMTs arrive, Kaylee Gain is convulsing. St. Louis Police stated a 15-year-old suspect has been arrested and is being held in St. Louis County Family Court on assault charges. The determination is still to be made on whether DeClue will be charged as an adult. Maurnice DeClue's famly says she is the victim, and has been repeatedly bullied. They says she was lure to the fight location. Joining Nancy Grace Today: Chris Slusher - Columbia, MO) Missouri attorney, https://www.midmissourilawyers.com/ Caryn L. Healthcare consultant John Bartimole on the recent cyberattack on the healthcare industry
Throughout nursing school, working in the hospital or at "the bedside" was definitely the encouraged career path after graduation and licensure. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 55% of registered nurses worked in hospitals in 2022. However, a beauty of the nursing profession is its versatility of where one could take a position: ambulatory services, home health, schools, politics, you name it. Over the recent years, we have also seen a new pavement in nursing entrepreneurship in collaboration with the rise of technology, social media, and artificial intelligence. We are joined in this episode by three "nursepreneurs" within the social space.Cara Lunsford is the Founder and CEO of HOLLIBLU, a social networking app for nurses, which was acquired by Relias/Nurse.com, where she is now the Vice President of Community. Nurse.com has been the trusted go-to resource for nurses worldwide for more than 30 years, providing the nursing community with peer support, job opportunities, and accredited continuing education. Cara has been a registered nurse for almost two decades, having worked in the areas of pediatric oncology, infusion services, hospice care, and concierge home health as a Director of Nursing.Anthony Scarpone-Lambert is the Co-Founder and CEO of Adni (formerly Lumify), a one-stop shop of gear and resources made for healthcare workers and the only all-in-one AI-powered clinician engagement platform. He previously co-founded Text-911, an advocacy non-profit startup expediting the process of implementing emergency text capabilities in all United States counties. Anthony received his Nursing degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was the Class Board Executive Vice President and graduated with the Spoon and Dean's Awards as the first honor of his graduating class. Anthony was a childhood Broadway performer from the Disney Theatrical Group.Tamara AL-Yassin is the CEO of The Nursing Beat, the only free daily digital nurse-operated newsletter made for nurses. She is also a Healthcare Consultant for Baxter International Co., a healthcare product company focusing on kidney disease and other chronic and acute medical condition treatment. Tamara was a charge and trauma nurse in the emergency department for over a decade, where she previously co-founded The Acknowledgement Collective, which created meaningful customized lapel pins.Livestream Air Date: May 12, 2023Follow Friends of Franz Podcast: Website, Instagram, FacebookFollow Christian Franz Bulacan (Host): Instagram, YouTubeThankful to the season's brand partners: Covry, House of M Beauty, Nguyen Coffee Supply, V Coterie, Skin By Anthos, Halmi, By Dr Mom, LOUPN, Baisun Candle Co., RĒJINS, Twrl Milk Tea, 1587 Sneakers
Lauren Skerritt, 28, is a fantastic physical shape due to being an athlete and obstacle course racer. The Rhode Islander stops by a Greenville Panera Bread and drinks two and a half servings of Panera Bread's "Charged Lemonade". The next day, Skerritt is rushed to the Emergency room suffering from an irregular heartbeat. Skerritt is shocked when doctors diagnose her with a heart condition that can lead to stroke and other complications known as atrial fibrillation. Skerrit says her heart problem was caused by the popular beverage from Panera Bread that contains as much caffeine as three cans of Red Bull, according to a lawsuit. Skerrit's lawsuit is not the first, two other suits have already been filed against the restaurant chain over it's "charged lemonade". Panera has said the previous two lawsuits were “equally without merit.” This lawsuit claims Skerritt continues to experience supraventricular tachycardia with associated shortness of breath, palpitations, brain fog, difficult thinking and concentrating, body shakes, and weakness. Ever felt like a fraud in your own life, despite a resume that says otherwise? This episode promises to be both a mirror and a map for listeners navigating their own paths to self-assurance and success. There's a curious paradox in the pursuit of recognition, where the accolade you crave is often the very thing that feeds your insecurities. Maintenance workers at a Houston apartment complex, get a service call for a non-working dishwasher. As they make repairs, a child can be heard crying, unconsolably, in another room. The workers investigate and find a toddler, lying on the living room floor under a blanket. Lifting the blanket, the 2-year-old child's limbs are duct-taped together. The workers take photos and videos, leave the apartment and call Houston police. Police take the girl to the hospital, where doctors say she might not have survived through the night, had she not been brought in for care. KPRC reports the child was determined to be non-verbal and suffering from physical abuse as well as psychological abuse and neglect. Doctors discovered she also suffered a brain bleed caused by head trauma, anemia and kidney failure as a result of the abuse. Even though she is two-years-old , the victim is so malnourished, her weight it equivalent to that of an average one-year-old. Child Protective Services meets with the adults and five other children living in the apartment. The biological mother of the 2-year-old girl lives in another state and left her daughter in the care of the child's 27-year-old cousin, Toniesha Deshae Perkins. Perkins claims the other children living in the apartment often tie up the toddler and themselves. Houston Police interview the other children in the home. They say the girl sleeps on the floor and regularly removes the tape from her arms, legs, and mouth. The children say the toddler "gets popped" when she does, and a lock has been put on the refrigerator to prevent the little one from accessing food. The three adults living in the apartment, Toniesha Deshae Perkins, Perkins boyfriend, 23-year-old Kenry Fluker, and the toddler's 17-year-old aunt, Mya Jhari Breaux-McGruder, are now charged with injury to a child and unlawful restraint of a person under 17. Our guests David Kay and Doran Walker have had a mentor/mentee relationship since 2018. Doran is an RN with an MBA, owner and Healthcare Consultant for BioMD consulting and a Patient Care Manager for Specialized Geriatrics, Glenrose for Alberta Health Services. He's also the National Cochair for Emerging Health Leaders Canada. The fact that they came together well before the pandemic Doran says is fortuitous, since he had someone to turn to when his professional life became more challenging, and he became a new father. David runs his own healthcare and professional regulatory management consultancy. He says much of what he learned about being a good mentor comes from having strong mentors in the early stages of his career. One of those was a CEO of a large teaching hospital who shared his insights with David on long drives around Saskatchewan. This CEO would call fellow CEOs after hours to have open and casual conversations, something that imprinted on David the value of compassionate leadership. David and Doran talked to us about what they've learned from each other, what defines a good mentoring relationship, and the fact that we all probably have more mentors than we realize. Quotables “This was really another opportunity to give back to the next generation and to the profession” – DK “I believe goal-setting is important for all of us – both personal goals and professional goal setting. It helps provide some focus.” – DK “In some of those circumstances that we discussed I hadn't lived it, but I could draw on something that might have been a little similar or at least this is how people might be feeling about what they're hearing and ‘the why'. What do we do about the why, what's the what and the how.” – DK “Because of the mentorship relationship and our discussion on goals and values, what changed for me was a deeper understanding of who I was and what I needed to value. For that I'm grateful.” – DW “There's usually four or five different people who have mentorship within our lives in different ways. I think that's going to be the next way forward for mentorship research and literature.” DW “I like to call it a kitchen cabinet. I've been fortunate throughout my career of having a network of people around me whose opinions I trusted and who could be honest with me.” – DK “Mentorship is probably the most direct way that knowledge can be passed on. It also has the added benefit of providing wellness to emerging leaders. Because when they come to stressful situations, they already have someone formally they can talk to about it.” – DW Mentioned in this Episode: Emerging Health Leaders Canada Canadian College of Health Leaders American College of Healthcare Executives Access More Interviews with Healthcare Leaders at HIROC.com/podcast Follow us on Twitter, and listen on iTunes. This is something the pandemic made very real for many of us. In fact, according to a survey by Public Health England (PHE), more than 40% of adults in England gained weight during the pandemic, reports the BBC. Having experienced this firsthand during the pandemic, this served as the motivation that three friends needed to create the YCombinator startup Alfie, the first program for men that combines doctor-prescribed medication, 1:1 health coaching, and community-based competition to help men achieve their weight loss goals. In today's episode, we speak with Alexander Singh, a former Healthcare Consultant turned CEO and co-founder of Alfie, who shares how the interesting story behind why he and his co-founders picked the name Alfie for the company's name. He also shares how Alfie works and how it separates itself from other companies that provide weight loss programs. Singh also goes into detail about what a metabolic review is and why it is important. He also explains how much the service costs along with some specific case studies demonstrating how Alfie's service has had an impact. He also shares how competition is used to achieve weight loss. In fact, according to Singh, when a competitive element is added, men show a 120% activity increase, which the company makes use of by implementing bi-weekly challenges such as step counts and workout competitions. And finally, Singh shares his advice for listeners looking to further their startup journey and apply to take part in the Y Combinator program.

In this episode of OutBüro Voices featuring LGBTQ professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders from around the world, host Dennis Velco chats with Max Appenroth: Transgender Experience Focused Healthcare Consultant based in Berlin, Germany. Max is a male of transgender experience and has had to navigate the public medical system of Germany where doctors are assigned. The assigned doctors were generalists with little to no experience with transgender patients. This led him to have in most cases to educate his doctors on what he needed and how to best treat him. Max is striving to educate the health care and pharmacology community on how to best be inclusive and respond to the sensitivities and needs of the transgender community as patients. His education is inclusive helping companies and organizations be wider and fuller in their diversity, equality, and inclusion. Gender Identity is the feeling of self whereas sexual orientation is the desire towards. https://outburo.com/understanding-gender-identity-expression-101/ Building your gender-neutral language may seem odd at first, but like all things, the more it is used the more natural it will be. Max and I discuss how languages that are gendered such as German in where a table is masculine e and a door is feminine creates boundaries for the transgender community. In many cases, the neural term "their" is used. However in German "their" is "Sie" and she is "sie". It is spelled and sounds exactly the same. The only difference is the capitalization. Language shapes reality and can I fluence how one perceives themselves. In languages that use verbs gender, they must take extra care to form inclusive language. LGBTQ persons are less likely to receive the care they need due to fear of discrimination. The LGBTQ community experiences life struggles at a greater level and may need more self-care time than other employees. This was in part the reason Max formed his own company to set his own schedule to have the flexibility to be his healthiest self. Employers could implement flexible schedules that would benefit all employees and the employer-supported by numerous studies. Stories from the Stacks – A Soundtrack to an Investment Advisor’s Life with Olde Raleigh Financial
Olde Raleigh Financial's Meet the Masters Video Series https://olderaleighfinancial.com Olde Raleigh Financial Group had the opportunity to interview Dr. Bob Adams. Dr. Adams is a North Carolina-based retired physician, former Navy SEAL with an MBA, and an Eagle Scout. He is currently a Healthcare Consultant, public speaker, and the author of the book Six Days of Impossible: Navy SEAL Hell Week - A Doctor Looks Back. Dr. Adam's comments are based on a career in healthcare that included setting up military hospitals in hostile environments. He is refreshingly forward with his opinion and provides a counter-narrative to public media. The views expressed are those of Dr. Adams and do not reflect the views/opinions held by Advisory Services Network, LLC. Let's jump into the transcript. Alex Mihajlov: There you go. Well I'm really glad you joined us today because I am trying to find some rational voice in the latest national panic that is gripping this country and that is COVID-19 and everybody's screaming about it and talking about it and scared to death about it and afraid to talk to anybody and afraid to breathe near anybody. And so I was kind of hoping I'd get some rational thought out of you. The first question that I'm having a hard time finding out is how did this truly, how did this virus truly start? Do you have a good theory on that? Bob Adams: So you don't need theories, there's pretty good science to back up the beginning of the Wuhan China outbreak, there's a meat market there that sells animals that honestly are illegal to sell but are eaten anyway and they've tracked it back to that meat market and suspect a ground dwelling animal, looks a little bit like an Armadillo, as the animal vector for this particular virus. We tracked a lot of the covid viruses, there's seven of these corona viruses out there that we see six of them quite routinely and regularly. Similar to the over 400 flu viruses that are out there that we see annually and regularly this time of the year. So the Wuhan China, center of the outbreak has been tracked back to the first patient, and we're going to track its development and mutation over the years to come. Every business has it challenges. Over the past 5 years as an independent Nurse Consultant I've learned that as your business grows and evolves, so do you. If you want to run an efficient and profitable firm, you'll be forced outside of your comfort zone. In this week's episode, I'm taking you behind the scenes in an unscripted, unedited, very transparent look into what worked and what didn't work in my consulting firm in 2018. This wasn't an easy episode to produce because it forced me to become extremely vulnerable. However, I also understand that this is a learning opportunity for you. Listen and learn from my mistakes, as well as what worked for me. Remember, as your business evolves so do you. Enjoy the journey. -Elle To join our FREE Facebook group for Nurse and Healthcare Consultants go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheNurseConsultantNetwork/ To learn more about how you can monetize your clinical knowledge as a Healthcare Consultant go to www.TheNurseConsultantNetwork.com
