“Those guys are parents to 2 babies…and we're fighting over which baby is cuter…” With SIDE 2 of our PUPPETS VS JUSTICE HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH, things are a bit trickier, because the math doesn't sync up perfectly track for track. But not to worry, because we worked out all the math to try and keep things as “Even Steven” as possible. “You go to the peak of your ability…that's what Justice was…it was their Hemispheres…” As we noted previously on the SIDE 1 episode, PUPPETS represents the end of the Cliff Burton era, and JUSTICE represents the beginning of the Jason Newsted era. On SIDE 2, we got deeper into the weeds, particularly with regard to the lyrical subject matter, the style and structure of the songs, and the personal impact and perspective of the instrumentals. We're not saying that this was a complete blowout, and we're not saying that the outcome was predictable by any means, but what we ARE saying is that the final verdict was actually a bit more shocking than we originally anticipated. “What are they saying, dude?” Stick around until the very end of the episode to discover the power of “frontmasking” after you JOIN US for the nail-biting conclusion to our PUPPETS VS JUSTICE HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH as we take on SIDE 2. U.S. officials are moving to deputize state and local law enforcement partners for counter-drone activities ahead of the 2026 World Cup in an attempt to address a gap in legal authorities. While certain federal officials have been given the authority to counter unmanned aircraft that pose a credible threat to specified locations, that same authority has not yet been extended by Congress to state and local officials. So, as U.S. cities look to enhance the security of their skies ahead of the World Cup matches they're slated to host, the federal government is moving to train and deputize law enforcement in those areas so they, too, can participate in counter-drone efforts. Details of those plans were shared at an event last week on drone mitigation co-hosted by the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup, Commercial Drone Alliance, and DroneResponders. former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, who represents the 11 U.S. cities hosting World Cup matches on behalf of Hogan Lovells, told reporters: “There are some technical issues about who has the capacity to do counter-drone technology — who can operate that equipment.” Working with the FBI, he said, the White House is requiring officials to be trained, and “in effect, they become deputized, they become federal agents for this limited purpose.” While Coleman said it “would be cleaner” and easier to do it via legislation, he told reporters “the public should understand that we have the capacity to ensure that the folks who need to operate the equipment will be able to do it.” Through a recently launched FBI training program known as the National Counter-UAS Training Center, state and local law enforcement officers will be educated and then granted authority by the Department of Justice for counter-drone work. That schoolhouse located in Alabama was ordered under President Donald Trump's executive order on drone mitigation and graduated its first class in recent weeks. Days after deploying America's newest and largest aircraft carrier to the Caribbean to target what the Trump administration alleges are drug-trafficking boats from Venezuela, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth unveiled a large-scale military and surveillance operation in the region that will commence later this month. “Operation SOUTHERN SPEAR defends our Homeland, removes narco-terrorists from our Hemisphere, and secures our Homeland from the drugs that are killing our people. The Western Hemisphere is America's neighborhood — and we will protect it,” Hegseth wrote in a social media post last Thursday night. Venezuela launched a major military mobilization campaign this week in response to the U.S.' unusual surge of weapons and Navy assets to its Southern Command area of responsibility. Last Tuesday, Hegseth deployed America's most advanced aircraft carrier — the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) — and its strike group to Southcom, following an order from President Donald Trump. Tension has risen between Trump and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro this year, continuing to escalate in recent months. The U.S. has conducted multiple deadly strikes in the region Southcom covers since early September against vessels Hegseth has accused online of smuggling drugs from Venezuela. With the Trump administration issuing alarming threats about eradicating "narco-terrorism" in our Hemisphere after accusing Canada of having drug cartels and sending fentanyl to the USA, and ramping up military action in Venezuela, not to mention the shocking revelations from the Epstein emails, we are witnessing a tumultuous week in politics that demands our attention. This special Double Header episode with Douglas Connors breaks down the tantalizing drama surrounding Pierre Poilievre's faltering leadership and MP defections. As poll numbers reveal a shifting political landscape in Canada, we must ask: Is the Epstein Files bombshell the beginning of the end for the MAGA movement and its waning appeal in Alberta, led by MAGA-friendly Danielle Smith and Poilievre's maple MAGA Conservative Party?Additionally, we engage with Guy Felicella, a passionate global advocate for Housing First and harm reduction, a resident of BC. He lays bare the reality that Poilievre's rhetoric and policies fall short of being fiscally responsible, particularly when contrasted with the proven Housing First model. Guy shares his deeply personal story and raises a pressing question: Will Prime Minister Mark Carney's housing strategy be sufficient to confront the crisis that is forcing hundreds of thousands of Canadians to suffer on our streets this winter? This episode is not just insightful; it is essential listening for anyone who cares about the future of our communities and the direction of our country. This episode was recorded on August 22, 2025, during the virtual session “Security in the Age of Emerging Technologies”, which was the second in a series of events organized by ParlAmericas in the lead-up to the Tenth Summit of the Americas. This event brought together parliamentarians, experts, and hemispheric leaders to explore the connections between critical infrastructure, water and energy security, and technological risks.Listen to Mark Lambrides, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development of the Organization of American States, speak about how countries from the Americas and the Caribbean can cooperate with the OAS to build resilience of energy and water critical infrastructure. Lambrides talks about the many initiatives created and supported by the OAS, such as the Integrated Water Resources Management, and how these projects are helping to protect and strengthen critical infrastructure across the Hemisphere. He highlights that parliamentarians have an important role in this process through the promotion of parliamentary cooperation, ratification of agreements, creation of efficient legislation, and carrying-out oversight. For more details about this meeting and the resources mentioned, please visit our webpage dedicated to the activity.
“I had to watch it 3 or 4 times to finally get there…” Ahhh, the 80's. A time when people could actually afford to live, back when Taco Bell was both super cheap and equally delicious, horror movies were genuinely scary and often boasted incredibly “special” special effects, and terrified parents everywhere were completely “freaking the motherfrickin' frick out” over heavy metal and the ensuing “Satanic Panic” that followed. (Remember, we're talking about the 80's here…) “I kinda feel like Satan probably listens to Air Supply nonstop…or Gino Vanelli…” Not to worry though, because Tipper Gore was on the case, going out of her way to ensure that the future prosperity of heavy metal would be secure forever with the PMRC seal of approval (PARENTAL ADVISORY – EXPLICIT CONTENT) plastered on the cover of everything that would be deemed essential listening. Thanks to the diligent efforts and painstaking research of Tipper Gore and her Parents Music Resource Center, the PMRC lovingly crafted “The Filthy Fifteen” for American parents to ensure that their children would only be exposed to the finest audio artistry the heavy metal genre (and somehow, also Satan) had to offer. One of the bands included on that fateful list were the founders of black metal, VENOM (ironically, rated “O” … for “Obviously” …as in “Obviously, your kids should be listening to this!”). Hailing from probably the fanciest, most upper crust sounding city in all of England, Newcastle upon Tyne's 3-piece of evil VENOM came blasting out of the gates of hell with what would become the foundation for the black metal genre that would begin its ascent into heavy metal culture around the same time as thrash metal in the early 80's, with a sound combining the rawness of Motorhead, the darkness of Sabbath, and the speed of thrash with an imagery reminiscent of KISS if they were actually satanists. If Black Sabbath are ground zero for the formation of heavy metal as we know it, then VENOM is no doubt the Black Sabbath of the black metal genre. With a dark, detached creepiness that sounds like something recorded in an underground mausoleum, VENOM are the originators of extreme metal and were out in front, scaring the hell out of parents everywhere and delighting young and impressionable metalheads the world over. Happy Halloween everyone!!! It's time to celebrate spooky season the way we did back in the 80's, by going through your kids trick-or-treat plunder and picking out all of that “good candy”. Tara breaks down what she calls America's “civil war,” spanning from deporting illegal immigrants to dismantling the international smuggling networks fueling the crisis. Highlighting 2.1 million removals and the surge of 175,000 ICE applicants for 10,000 positions, she emphasizes Americans' willingness to fight for their country. The episode also exposes how fentanyl and xylazine precursors flow from Shanghai through Venezuela and Colombia to devastate U.S. communities — and how Trump's administration is taking a multi-layered, hemispheric approach to fight it, including carrier strike groups, satellite surveillance, and targeting traffickers as terrorists. Tara connects global crime, Chinese interference, and Democratic policies to the deadly drug trade impacting American lives.
Tara dives into the sweeping U.S. strategy under Trump, tackling criminal smuggling networks, mass deportations, and drug trafficking from China through Venezuela and Colombia. She breaks down shocking DHS numbers, ICE's surge in applications, and the elite law enforcement response. The episode also examines looming U.S. military action in Venezuela, Lindsey Graham's warnings about Maduro, and opposition support from Venezuelan citizens. Tara exposes Democratic complicity, including illegal immigrant access to Medicaid, SNAP benefits, and financial mismanagement, while connecting the crisis to broader national security and fiscal instability.

On this landmark 200th episode, Andrew and returning guest Dakota Jones (Voices of Wrestling) are diving into hall of fame season. Yes, this is the time of year when people discuss and debate the candidates for the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame, but Andrew and Dakota are focusing on a different (though just as noteworthy) institution: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Class of 2025 was announced months ago, but the induction ceremony is just a few weeks away, so there's no better time to celebrate the group of music luminaries entering the hall: Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Outkast, Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Salt-N-Pepa, Warren Zevon, Carol Kaye, Nicky Hopkins, Thom Bell, and Lenny Waronker. Welcome to the PowerHouse Feng Shui Podcast! I'm your host, Patricia, and today we're diving into one of the questions I get asked all the time — is Feng Shui different in the Southern Hemisphere? You'll learn why north is always north (no matter where you live), why your toilet flushing in the opposite direction has nothing to do with energy flow, and how classical Feng Shui remains universal around the world. I'll also share why the compass is just one piece of the puzzle — and how true Feng Shui, like acupuncture for your home, goes so much deeper. So if you've ever wondered whether your location changes the magic of Feng Shui, this episode will give you the clarity and confidence to start creating more harmony, flow, and joy in your space — wherever you are on the planet. Key Takeaways: When starting out, focus on the visible, surface-level Feng Shui like decluttering, enhancing specific life areas, and creating balance — rather than stressing over exact degrees. No matter where you live — Feng Shui harmonizes your space to support joy, abundance, and flow. Changes you make in your environment can spark powerful shifts in your mindset, emotions, and results — wherever you are in the world. The dairy industry is a global one that brings on many different climates, terrains, and challenges that differ from here in Wisconsin. Here to speak are a couple dairy producers from a country that is on a 6-month seasonal difference than the US. Grant Wills a dairy farmer and Olivia Thompson with Fonterra give a look in the differences they have noticed in how they produce in New Zealand compared to America's Dairyland.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Jeff Bezos' Vision for Orbital Data Centers: Jeff Bezos has proposed a revolutionary concept of building large-scale data centers in Earth's orbit within the next 10 to 20 years. This ambitious idea aims to leverage continuous solar power and extreme cold temperatures in space to optimize computing efficiency. However, the technical and economic challenges associated with such a venture are immense, with potential costs reaching into the tens of billions. The Rarity of Technological Civilizations: New research suggests that technological civilizations in our galaxy may be exceedingly rare, with the nearest one potentially located 33,000 light years away. Scientists emphasize the delicate balance of geological and atmospheric conditions necessary for intelligent life to thrive, raising questions about our unique existence in the universe.Darkening of the Northern Hemisphere: A concerning study reveals that the Northern Hemisphere is gradually becoming darker, absorbing more solar energy than the Southern Hemisphere. This trend, driven by factors like melting sea ice and reduced aerosol levels, could disrupt global weather patterns and intensify climate change, underscoring the intricate balance of Earth's climate system.Astonishing Growth of a Richie Planet: Observations of the rogue planet CHA 11077626 have shown it pulling in gas and dust at an unprecedented rate of 6 billion tons per second. This behavior blurs the lines between planets and stars, prompting new discussions about the formation of free-floating celestial bodies and their classification in the cosmos. For more cosmic updates, visit our website at astronomydaily.io. "Oh my God!" wasn't just Joey Styles's famous catchphrase in ECW, it's also what many wrestling fans exclaim when something wild happens like a crazy spot or a surprise appearance. On this episode, Andrew is joined by first-time guest and actual pastor Josh to play songs with the word God (or Gods) in the title. They don't have to be religious songs, just the word will do. Artists played include Queens of the Stone Age, Ida Maria, Monsters of Folk, Coldplay, Beach Boys, Def Leppard, John Denver, and many more. Despite a nightmarish amount of scheduling and technical issues that went into recording this episode, it's still a lot of fun, so give it a listen!Theme song: "Hemispheres" by Silent PartnerBluesky: @MusicoftheMat / @justandrewAll VOW podcasts, articles, previews, and reviews: VoicesofWrestling.comJoin the VOW Discord to discuss Music of the Mat and other shows/topics: VoicesofWrestling.com/DiscordDonate to Music of the Mat and other VOW podcasts: VoicesofWrestling.com/DonateAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Send us a textAs we in the Northern Hemisphere (sorry, Australian friends!) reach the Autumnal Equinox, we can use it as a time to reflect on our own summer abundance. We may not be tending to crops, but we have each been tending to and nurturing other aspects of our lives. Each of us is growing and changing, and each of us is doing so in our own way. This change of season is a good time for us to look at our family system to see how our interconnectedness has changed and how our communication needs to adapt. Send us a textI could NEVER forget my Southern Hemisphere friends (I see you and love you, Australia!) Reposting just for you :)It's the Spring Equinox! For the Southern Hemisphere, brighter days are on the horizon. It makes us realize that sometimes, it's our time to shine (literally!), and sometimes, it isn't. Can we celebrate others and know that it's just not our time right now, but still trust that we are on the right path? Manifesting is about speaking it out loud – and writing it down, of course – and then putting in the work, and in due time, we can watch our dreams come true. But sometimes it's really hard to keep plugging along, right? What can you do today to work towards manifesting your dreams?Thank you for listening and being part of this community! Let's get social. One of the ways that wrestlers and musicians are alike is that they are not set in stone. Just like a wrestler is often prone to changing their gimmick, a musician is often prone to changing their sound. On this episode, Andrew is joined again by Jeremy Sexton (Voices of Wrestling) to look at some instances of bands and artists changing things up with their music. Artists played include Led Zeppelin, Nas, Bee Gees, Black Eyed Peas, Ministry, Metallica, Rush, John Mayer Trio, and many more. EPISODE 82 — Aaron Byrd: Signals, Scotch & Slipknot's Butcher at RushFestFrom Kansas City Signals in '82 to the inner circle table at RUSHFest Canada 2025, Aaron Byrd has lived a Rush fan's dream journey. Raised on stoner brothers' vinyl, baptized by Hemispheres, and blown away by Neil's fortress of drums at his very first Rush show, Aaron carried that passion through 16 Rush concerts, friendships, and eventually straight into the heart of the Rush family at Massey Hall. But Aaron's story doesn't stop with the music—he's also a professional butcher from Des Moines with a surprising client: Slipknot's Corey Taylor. Yep, this week we're slicing through prog and pork chops as Aaron shares:
This is The Energy to Heal, your resource for all things Splankna, the faith-based inner healing modality that helps you experience emotional freedom. In this episode, host Laura Milliken welcomes Dana Hernandez, a Masters Level Splankna Practitioner and Executive Director of multiple Brain Balance Centers in Atlanta, GA. Dana brings a unique perspective as she combines Splankna with her work at Rizoo Counseling, helping clients address the deep connections between trauma and brain function. Together, Laura and Dana dive into what happens in the brain during trauma—specifically how the right hemisphere, home to our subconscious, creativity, and emotional processing, often “goes offline” in the aftermath of painful experiences. Dana shares practical ways to support right-brain healing and balance the two hemispheres, along with insights into how to recognize signs of imbalance. This episode will help you better understand the neurological impact of trauma and give you hope that restoration is possible. ✨ Takeaways: How trauma impacts the right brain and subconscious functioning Why the right hemisphere is key for emotional regulation, creativity, and connection Practical ways to support and strengthen right-brain activity after trauma Signs that suggest your brain hemispheres may be out of balance How Splankna and Brain Balance work together to restore healing and wholeness

Seven countries in Latin America and the Caribbean recognize Taiwan in lieu of the People's Republic of China, the most of any other region in the world. However, the number of formal Taiwan allies has been in steady decline, particularly since 2017 when Panama changed its diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing and joined the Belt and Road Initiative. Today, Taiwan's status among its remaining allies appears to be under increasing pressure. In this episode, Ryan C. Berg sits down with Henry Large, a Rhodes Scholar and Doctoral candidate in Latin American Studies at the University of Oxford. Together, they discuss the history behind Panama's 2017 switch, the state of Taiwan's relationships with the region today, and why diplomatic allies matter for Taipei. They also discuss how the United States, which itself does not formally recognize Taiwan, can be a better partner in promoting ties with the region.

If you ever go to a big wrestling show, you'll likely find a commemorative T-shirt for sale that says "I Was There." Artists include Mötley Crüe, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Yes feat. Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, & Rick Wakeman, Taylor Swift, The Heavy, Echo & the Bunnymen, Ludacris, and many more. Two of the heavyweights of world golf are the stars for this episode – Royal Melbourne West and Tara Iti. Scott recently returned from a quick hit and run trip to Tara Iti and played both courses at Te Arai as well. The rounds at Tara Iti had him thinking it might even surpass the famed West course at RM as the Southern Hemisphere's best. We discuss the genesis of the course at Mangawhai – including the seminal GolfClubAtlas thread in which Tom Doak put out a call for people to nominate sites on which his client could develop one of the best courses in the world – turns out it was even earlier than we though it was. 2005, and long time GCA contributor Ash Towe was the one who steered the ship towards the East coast of New Zealand, north of Auckland. https://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,19775.msg351600.html#msg351600 The site, the routing, and so much more of Tara Iti is discussed. Strong holes on both layouts, contrasted with the weaker links in the chains. The assortment of holes on both courses is a focus – short and long threes, driveable fours, more testing long two shot holes as well as reachable fives. Big greens and small, aggressive greens and artistic hazards. We chat about it all. The amazing landscape on which Tara Iti is built, and more. As mentioned, this excellent hole by hole look at Tara Iti courtesy of Golf Digest is a great entrée into a chat about the course. https://youtu.be/U6_5cGQhnDA?si=t3I69xGH5tXKiwty We also make mention throughout the episode of the NoLayingUp piece that Soly recorded at Tara Iti back at the end of the debut season of Tourist Sauce – the link for that is here - https://youtu.be/VV40tk_5fis?si=I7YoALIqEEIv1Jwb There's no longer the option for unaccompanied visitors to play Tara Iti unfortunately. But both courses next door at Te Arai are well worth the travel. For those who have an appetite for more Tara Iti content – Charlie Mercer has dedicated several episodes of his excellent NZ based golf podcast, The Yardage Book podcast, to Tara Iti and Te Arai. His episodes with Jim Rohrstaff, Tron Carter and Michael Wolff are well worth going back to for a listen. This was a fun one to record, given the quality of both courses under consideration – we hope you enjoy listening as much as we did recording! Pro wrestling championships often have some sort of regional designation in their name to distinguish them, à la the United States Championship or the Intercontinental Championship. The WWE European Championship was one such title (though its list of champions wasn't exactly a map of the EU). On this episode, Andrew is joined by returning guest Paul Völsch (Emerald FlowShow) to play artists who are from Continental Europe. To clarify, there will be no UK or Ireland representation, but Scandinavia and Iceland are included. Artists featured include Röyksopp (Norway), Peter Fox (Germany), Air (France), Måneskin (Italy), Björk (Iceland), Sabaton (Sweden), DJ Sammy (Spain), and many more. What do a Renaissance magician, a modern neuroscientist, and a forgotten philosopher of language have in common? In this episode, I dive into a wild, mythically-informed rabbit hole that took me from the Corpus Hermeticum to the divided brain model of Iain McGilchrist and the linguistic revelations of Owen Barfield. Together, these three worldviews—Hermeticism, brain lateralization, and the evolution of consciousness—seem to be providing us with the same message: that the world is not dead, but alive… if only we remember how to see it. This is a journey through magic, metaphysics, language, and psyche—a kind of Jungian time-travel into the heart of our disenchanted world. I explore how perception is not passive but participatory, how imagination might just be the bridge back to meaning, and why the way we attend to reality could be the most urgent moral act of our time. If you've ever felt like something sacred has gone missing, or that the modern world has forgotten how to listen—this episode is for you.

Blood can give a wrestling match some much needed drama and memorable visuals. When wrestlers need to bleed during a match, they "run the razor" (quite literally) on their own flesh to achieve the desired effect. On this episode, Andrew and returning guest Kevin Hare (Voices of Wrestling, 185 Miles South) play songs with blood, bleed, etc. in the title. Artists played include U2, Concrete Blonde, The New Pornographers, Agent Orange, Jimmy Eat World, Iron Maiden, Slayer, and many more. There's no better time to wear all white gear, because this episode is getting bloody!Theme song: "Hemispheres" by Silent PartnerBluesky: @MusicoftheMat / @justandrewListen to Kevin on the 185 Miles South podcast: 185milessouth.comAll VOW podcasts, articles, previews, and reviews: VoicesofWrestling.comJoin the VOW Discord to discuss Music of the Mat and other shows/topics: VoicesofWrestling.com/DiscordDonate to Music of the Mat and other VOW podcasts: VoicesofWrestling.com/DonateAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
