Kerry has a pothole in the alley behind her house that is so big the locals have named it, "The Pit of Despair". When the weather has been dry, her Honda CRX can climb down into, across and back out of it ok, but after a few days of heavy rain it can be rough seas in the ol' Pit. This summer, we are re-airing our favourite Canadian Love Map episodes. We found this love story when we stumbled upon a viral news story back in Season 2. Marisa and Anthony were teen sweethearts who had a fairy-tale relationship. For today's episode I had the pleasure of recording on-site with Ryan Basseri. Ryan is the owner of Rywire Motorsport Electronics and specializes in custom wire harnesses and engine bay parts for all types of sport compact cars. His passion for cars began with the Honda CRX, and he has been building and modifying cars since 1998. Over the years Ryan has owned many different rides and helped build some of the most well known cars on the scene today. After a thrilling tour through the shop where I saw multiple different projects, Ryan and I sat down to take a deep dive into what he is doing in the EV space and what we all have to look forward to from his shop. Enjoy!
00:00 - INTRO: The 60+ MPG Commute-Crushing HybridIf I wanted a used vehicle that gets amazing fuel economy at a far more reasonable price than a used Tesla, I would buy the first hybrid sold in the US. It's a vehicle that had an amazing EPA fuel economy rating and it's a car I still geek out over today, in spite of the fact that the earliest examples are more than 20 years old and they're not exactly fast. In fact, I'd say they're more… funky. And no, it's not a Prius, but I'll tell you what it is and why you might want one in just a moment, so hop in, buckle up and let's go for a drive! 01:20 - OPEN – Hybrid Technology Offered The Best Fuel Economy In The Early 2000'sToday it's electric vehicles, but 20+ years ago, if you wanted great fuel economy, you had to get a hybrid. The Prius was the first one to be launched in 1997, but it was a Japan-only model for the first couple of years and it wouldn't come to the US until model year 2000. 02:25 – The 2000 Honda Insight – The First Modern Hybrid Vehicle Available In The USIn spite of Toyota's Prius being the first mass-produced hybrid, Honda beat the Prius to American soil with the introduction of their first Hybrid, the 2-seat Honda Insight. While the Prius had impressive fuel economy, the Insight crushed it with a 61-city and 70-mpg EPA highway MPG rating. 03:35 - 2000-2006 Honda Insight is a more modern interpretation of the 1980s Civic CRX HFIntroduced in 1984 to the US market, the Honda CRX was a sporty, lightweight, front-wheel drive, 2-door hatch back that in its highest horsepower configuration (the CRX Si) offered sports car like performance that could give a comparable year Toyota's MR2 or Pontiac's V6 Fiero a run for their money. But in addition to the Si model, Honda also offered an HF or high fuel mileage version of the CRX that was equipped with a more fuel efficient engine and taller gearing to improve fuel economy. For comparison, the base model 1984 CRX with a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual transmission has a revised EPA fuel economy rating of 38 city / 48 highway and 41-mpg combined. That's better highway mileage than the first Prius and matches the combined Prius rating of 41 mpg… without the complication of a hybrid power train. Of course, the CRX was much lighter because it was a smaller 2-seat vehicle, plus it didn't have to meet model year 2000 crash standards. But still, the fuel economy of the 1.3-liter 1984 CRX was impressive. Fast-forward 16-years and the 2000 Honda Insight Hybrid expanded on those numbers with even more impressive fuel economy. When first introduced, the EPA rating for the Insight was 61-mpg city / 70-mpg highway and 65 MPG combined. Those numbers were later revised to 49-city/61-highway/53-mpg combined. Yet even the revised EPA fuel economy estimates for the First Generation Honda Insight are impressive by today's fuel economy standards. So if that piques your interest, let's get into why you might want a 2000-2006 First Generation Honda Insight. 05:45 - You Might Want A First-Generation Honda Insight If… You want a car that gets amazing fuel economy, especially for a long-distance daily commute, but you don't want to pay the price required to buy a new or even a used EV with decent driving range between charges. You don't need to carry more than one extra person and a small amount of gear. So the big hold-back on the First Gen Insight for many was seating capacity. It has 2-seats with about 5-cubic feet of space to store items under the rear...
In today's PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 78 of Owner Stories with Freddie from Toronto, Canada. Freddie started noticing Porsches from a young age. He had the poster on the wall of the iconic 930 Turbo and its whale tail. He also remembers a 964 commercial shown on Canadian TV in the ‘90s showcasing all the unique Porsche 911 colours of the time. Freddie like most of us didn't start with a Porsche, he was heavily into Hondas and still owns one today. His first car was a 1990 Honda CRX Si a car he modified and made just that little bit better. Freddie mentions early on that he is a ‘90s guy and pretty much all the cars he has owned are from the 1990s and later. So, after the CRX the cars that followed included many Hondas, BMWs, Toyotas, Acura's and even a Lexus. Freddie's third Honda CRX purchased in 2007 he still owns and sits under a cover in his garage. Apart from his current four Porsches Freddie also has a couple of daily drivers. These include a BMW F80 M3 and a E90 335i as well as his ‘winter daily' a Volkswagen Sportwagon. As you can see Freddie loves his cars. Now for the Porsches. The first 911 came in 2002 when Freddie and his wife purchased a brand new 911 - a 996 Carrera 2, white on tan with aero package. A big jump from the Hondas and Freddie recalls that at the time he and his wife felt like they were ‘driving the fastest car in the world.' A fun car, but after 6 years of ownership Freddie wanted something more. A bigger jump followed in 2008 when Freddie purchased one of the best 911s – a 2007 997 GT3RS in Orange. A car Freddie still owns. Other Porsches owned which have now left the garage include a '91 964 911 Turbo, 997.1 Turbo, a 1990 964 C4. Oh, and the one he almost forgot to mention the 2010 low mileage GT3. So apart from the 997 GT3 RS what completes Freddie current line-up? Well, that would be a 997.1 Carrera 2S, a well sorted 964 Carrera 4 in the rare shade of Baltic Blue metallic as well as his 911 (991.2) GT3 Touring in Chalk. Freddie remains humble and acknowledges everything has just come together well - especially when his day job overlaps with his Porsche passion. He has a soft spot for 964's but just remember to ask two key questions before purchase – ‘is it leaking oil and does the Aircon work?' Welcome back to the PorscheCooled Podcast. Follow Freddie on Instagram @911luv Michael (@michael.bath) owns a first generation 997 Carrera, comes from Australia and currently resides in Bahrain. In this, the 48th (but who's counting) episode of Bangers & Classics, we find out if Honda's pocket rocket from the 1980s has the, ahem, CRX factor. James waxes lyrical about an Alvis Parsley (I think that's the right name – this handwriting is harder to decipher than hieroglyphics) film and there's much chat about biscuits. Elsewhere, fresh from his defeat in last week's challenge, James ups the ante this week by finding an Italian car with plenty of space for golf bats whilst David's efforts to find a black phase 1 Renault 25 Turbo, and thereby become a yuppie, are frustrated.

So.. we apologize for Episode 78. Anyways, in the BIG 7-9 the BROS talk about such hard hitting topics as column shifters, smoking looks cool, classic rocks that REALLY rocks, oil filter torque, and the worst automotive smell. Also in this episode, Coyne retracts a previous statement he made about the 2nd Gen Toyota Prius. And finally, the guys break down probably the worst ever ad for a 1990 Honda CRX. Enjoy CAR BROS? The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. ~ John 10:10 (NLT) I had saved up to buy my first car since I was 12. It was a 1984 Honda CRX, a two-seater that got well over 50 miles per gallon. It was a deep read with the skirt of the car painted gray. The one thing it was lacking, however, was a decent stereo system. So, I began saving my money for that too. Eventually, I was able to purchase new speakers, an amplifier, and a new deck with a CD player. (It was new to have a CD player in your car back then.) It had plenty of volume and, of course, plenty of bass output. I finally had a true, teenager's car. Unfortunately, a car with a nice stereo system in it is something that a lot of people desire, including thieves. Early one morning, my dad and I were awoken to the sound of my car alarm going off, then the sound of screeching tires. By the time we got out to the driveway to see what was going on, the thieves were gone. All of the stereo equipment was stripped out of my car. I felt bummed, but also violated. The thieves didn't just steal the stereo, they also stole my peace of mind. Every morning as I went out to my car, I wondered if it would still be there. I wondered if my windows would be smashed. I wondered what else could go wrong. It was unsettling. Anyone who has had a car stolen, or a house broken into will tell you the same. It's not just the stuff that's taken, it's the robbing of a sense of peace that often hurts the most. This is what Satan wants to do in our lives. He doesn't just want to give us grief each day and try to trip us up. He wants to steal away our peace. He doesn't want us to be able to rest in the promises of Jesus. He doesn't want us to have hope. He wants to rob us, ultimately, of our faith. He knows that if he can rob us of this that we are doomed. We are lost. In contrast, we have a God who wants only good things for us. As our verse today states, “The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” And that life that He wants to give us isn't just in the here and now, but all the way into eternity. Today, and every day, don't let Satan rob you of the joy Jesus wants to provide. Thank God for His goodness, faithfulness, and the peace that He brings. #God #Jesus #Bible #Christian #Devotional #Discipleship #Thief #Scripture #Life #Peace #Hope #Destroy #Satan

visit: www.issimi.comWhere is the geographic center of gravity of the automobile industry? And what is a geographic center of gravity anyway? In this episode, Jason and Derek discuss the idea that there’s a country at any given time that dominates the automotive industry, either in terms of technical innovation or marketplace impact. Jason suggests that it currently lies in Korea, and explains how Kia and Hyundai are breaking genuine ground, but also argues that there’s a shift happening back to America for the first time in many decades. But not to Detroit. The pair then explore the ways in which various countries have pushed the envelope of the automotive industry at various times, for example Japan with their sport compacts such as the Honda CRX and Prelude, Acura Integra, Nissan Sentra SE-R, and Nissan Pulsar, as well as the critical decision to design cars specifically for the American market, and build them here too such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. They also discuss the various cars which mobilized entire countries including the Ford Model T, Volkswagen Beetle, Fiat 500, Citroen 2CV, and Mini.As far as America goes, the pair must return to the years before World War 2 to find genuine American technical innovation in the cars themselves, the Duesenberg Model J, for example, but the postwar market segmentation and marketing genius in America also receives honorable mention. Meanwhile, the pair asks whether and when countries like England, France, and Italy ever represented the center of the automotive universe and if so, when? And naturally, with this pair, a discussion of German cars is inevitable as well. The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.ISSIMI is an enthusiast-owned, full-service specialist offering sales, consignment, collection management, service, and consulting to discerning enthusiasts and collectors. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with.Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them.Support the show (http://www.issimi.com)

Brian Linn is a weekend race warrior. He’s figured out how to pull this off while having a job, and a family, outside of racing and do it with wins at an intense national level. Brian raced a 1972 MG Midget in both HP and FP at the 2016 SCCA Runoffs. Running in two classes, with one car, is no easy feat. That culminated in earning the Sunoco Hard Charger Award in FP and then the SCCA President’s Cup award for the best performance at the Runoffs. His father was a racer and Brian’s raced since his teens in cars including a Sprite, Spec Miata, Lotus 7, Honda CRX, and his MG Midget. Brian is also a talented artist who created digital paintings of automobiles and race cars in his spare time.
Ryan grew up in Monterey, CA and enjoyed the car scene of that area. His really got into cars was with a Honda CRX back in 1999 and began doing modifications and even engine swaps. He moved to San Jose for college and continued working on his passion for the CRX’s. He started a small wiring business out of his apartment during college to makes small looms and sub-harnesses. This started to grow and Ryan decided to leave college to devote his time to the wiring business. He moved into a house with some friends and turned the place to his own personal wiring shop! But he quickly realized that he needed a more legitimate space to work. So he moved back down to Southern California and rented a shop to grow the business. Since moving, he has continued to grow the business to a 2200 sq ft facility and has hired a couple employees. And he still has a partner, Peter, who has been with him from the start. They have accumulated quite the inventory of connectors, plugs, and wires that are needed for the many harnesses they produce. The bulk of their business comes from ready-made harnesses that are kept in stock. But they do still work on custom projects and customer cars to bring more awareness to the company. And Ryan also teaches a Wiring 101 class for High Performance Academy.

There's driving fast and driving with the sense that you cant do everything you see on television and in the movies. Most of those stunts are very dangerous and must not be performed by the average idiot with a nitric oxide tank installed in his '96 Honda CRX. Those disclaimers that state “Do Not Try This At Home” are not to be ignored. Heed the warnings. You are not Steve Mcqueen! Even he needed a stunt double to perform some of the wildest car chases ever to grace the silver screen. Google movies with awesome car chase scenes and BAM! you'll see Bullit among them. Back in those days, directors didn't have fancy computers and digital trickery; they had cars. Cars, a camera, and people who could drive those cars at extreme speeds. Both men and women skilled at the wheel with backbones they were more than willing to break for the perfect shot. Nowadays to flip a car means to film the actor reactions in front of a green screen then send the footage to an artist to make the car look real. Fast and Furious (although a great franchise) utilizes the CG car chases to an extreme degree. Most of the car chase scenes today are produced with computer graphics, and they are awesome to watch but not too impressive when you learn of their visual trickery on the DVD commentary. However, if you truly enjoy a great car chase scene and have yet to watch movies such as White Lightning, Smokey, and the Bandit, and even television programs such as The Dukes of Hazzard then we recommend you sit down, buckle up, join us for a discussion about going fast but staying real.
