Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya appeared in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on charges of rape, human trafficking and sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl. The 59-year-old was arrested by the SAPS Commissions Recommendations Task Team following an investigation into exploitation allegations. The state alleges he used electronic communications to groom the minor and raped an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton. For reaction to the case, we spoke to Dr. Shaheda Omar, Clinical Director at The Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children.

In their latest interview, Chris Steyn and Ian Cameron, the Chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police, unpack a day of high drama with the court appearance this afternoon of suspended Deputy National Commissioner General Shadrack Sibiya who is now facing charges of rape, sexual grooming, and human trafficking. The cases involve the alleged rape of an 18-year-old girl and the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl. Until his suspension over alleged criminal underworld links, the general was part of a cabal whose agenda was to have him as the next National Commissioner of Police. He was arrested at a strip club yesterday and is set to move from the police station to prison until his bail hearing because of an alleged escape plot. Also in court today was National Commissioner Fannie Masemola, who had charges against him withdrawn. Those related to alleged knowledge of a tender. He says he is ready to return to work.

Human trafficking rarely looks like it does in the movies. More often, it begins with a relationship built on vulnerability, grooming, manipulation and control. It may not be suitable for all viewers. Dr. Juliette Engel is a physician, author, and founder of the Angel Coalition, an organization that worked to combat human trafficking throughout Russia and the former Soviet Union. In this episode, Juliette shares her personal account of being placed in the CIA's Monarch MK-Ultra program as a child. She discusses Project Paperclip, the alleged use of trauma and drugs in mind-control experiments, the “annexes” where she says these programs operated, and how she created “Sparky” as a source of courage and strength. Juliette recounts escaping at seventeen, rebuilding her life, becoming a physician, and later moving to Moscow.
