In this episode of the Bendy Bodies Podcast, Dr. Linda Bluestein sits down with Dr. David Kaufman, a specialist in complex illnesses, to discuss how infections, immune dysfunction, and connective tissue disorders intersect. They explore why many chronic illnesses are often overlooked or misdiagnosed. This includes conditions like ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyeltiis/chronic fatigue syndrome), Long COVID, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), and dysautonomia, Dr. Kaufman shares insights on the role of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), Lyme Disease, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and other infections in triggering chronic conditions. They also dive into peptides, plasmapheresis, exosomes, and mitochondrial health as potential treatment avenues. If you've struggled to get answers about complex illness, this episode is packed with groundbreaking insights and expert advice. Takeaways: Complex Illness Requires a Multi-System Approach – Chronic conditions like ME/CFS, EDS, MCAS, and dysautonomia are interconnected, requiring a holistic approach rather than isolated treatments. Infections Can Trigger or Worsen Chronic Illness – Epstein-Barr virus, Lyme disease, and other chronic infections often reactivate in immune-compromised individuals, leading to long-term symptoms. Peptides and Exosomes Show Promise – Treatments like thymosin alpha-1, BPC-157, and exosomes may help modulate immune function and promote healing. Pelvic Congestion & Blood Flow Issues Matter – Unrecognized vascular issues, like May-Thurner syndrome and pelvic congestion syndrome, can contribute to POTS and hemodynamic instability. Mitochondrial Health is Key to Recovery – Addressing mitochondrial dysfunction through targeted therapies can help reduce fatigue and improve overall health in complex illness patients. In the aftermath of the horrific attack by Hamas on the people of Israel on October 7th, I and many others were shocked to witness not a clear and staunch condemnation of terrorism, but an explosion of ugly antisemitic sentiment and protests. These attacks extended to Jewish thought leaders and authors, many of whom had speaking engagements and book deals cancelled. Jewish owned bookstores and publishing houses were boycotted. Author, podcaster, and founder of Zibby Media, Zibby Owens responded by speaking out and taking action. Zibby reached out to fellow Jewish authors to ask them to write essays about their experiences after October 7th. Over 100 Jewish authors and advocates responded, and the result is this amazing book edited by Zibby entitled, On Being Jewish Now. All proceeds from On Being Jewish Now benefit Artists Against Antisemitism of which Zibby is also a cofounder. In today's episode, I speak with 5 of these courageous contributors: Lisa Barr, author of the bestselling Women on Fire and The Goddess of Warsaw, Judy Batalion, bestselling author of The Untold Story of Women Resistance Fighters in Hitler's Ghettos which has been optioned by Steven Spielberg, Alyssa Rosenheck a celebrated interiors photographer who has been recognized by Architectural Digest as one of the top photographers in the country in addition to being a writer, author and advocate, David Kaufman a writer, editor and columnist for The New York Post, and last but certainly not least, Nicola Kraus – bestselling author of The Nanny Diaries among several bestselling works. In this conversation, we talk about the antisemitism these authors and advocates have faced since October 7th, their essays in the book, what it feels like to be Jewish in this moment, what they are doing to combat antisemitism and hate and what we should all be doing to support our Jewish friends and neighbors. I admire guests Lisa, Judy, Alyssa, Nicola and David so much for all that they are doing, Zibby for putting this important book together and everyone who is both a contributor to this book and standing up against Antisemitism in ways big and small.
If you are one of the tens of millions of Americans who loves football—and who simultaneously worries if it can be safely played—then Dr. David Kaufman's book is must-read. Like such classics as Paper Lion and A Fan's Notes, We Need You in the Locker Room provides a fascinating, unique, and immensely readable perspective on a game we only think we know. As a neurologist assigned to work with the coaches and players, his time in the locker room and on the sidelines made him an intimate witness to the drama, teamwork, and courage of young athletes—and to the toll this violent game exacts on them. A intimate look into a championship season, this book is alsoa smart, sensitive argument for how football can be preserved. Conversation Highlights: (0:27) – When did you come to MSU, and why were you attracted here? (1:14) – Talk about your role as a neurologist. (2:00) – When did you start focusing on concussions in football? (2:36) – What is a concussion? (2:57) – When and how did you become involved with the MSU football team? (3:57) – What motivated you to write the book? (5:36) – Who do you think should read the book? (6:46) – Talk about the special relationship you developed with Coach Mark Dantonio. (7:47) – What are facts about concussions do you want to reinforce and myths you want to dispel? (8:41) – Would parents of student-athletes find your book interesting? (10:24) – You're donating all profits from the book to two MSU charities. (10:54) – What do you hope readers take away from the book? (12:18) – What is your role at MSU now? Listen to “MSU Today with Russ White” on the radio and through Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and wherever you get your shows.

Doris Day was America's girl next door. But behind that door was a personal life much less perfect than the roles she portrayed on screen. A beautiful soul who did amazing work in her contributions to animal welfare, but wasn't given the same unconditional love from humans as she received from her animals. Listen now! If you are not familiar with The Nails don't feel bad. They were not a hit on commercial radio, but this punk rock/new wave outfit from Boulder Colorado was much better known on college radio in the mid to late 80's. Although Mood Swing is their debut album from 1984, the band originally formed in 1976 as a five-piece band. They moved to New York and built both their musical chops and their following on the club circuit before their major label debut. At the time that Mood Swing was released the band consisted of Marc Campbell on vocals, Steve O'Rourke on guitar, George Kaufman on bass, Douglas Guthrie on saxophone, and David Kaufman on keyboards. Drummer Tommy Cotogna had left the band prior to recording the album, and Dennis McDermott provided the drum work for the album sessions. The band produced a sound that included strong musicianship, dark and often deliberately shocking lyrics, but laced with a sense of humor. Campbell claimed that their music came from “a mystical and sexual area. I write in a cinematic way, trying to create through language and sound, texture and atmosphere, a specific mood.” The songs on the album do indeed represent a diversity of mood.Wayne relives his days as a college radio DJ as he brings us this new wave group for the podcast, and we are joined by friend of the show Heather Lynch, sitting in for Bruce (and keeping Lynch in line). Every Time I Touch YouThe distinctive bass line followed by the screaming guitar leads into this song about being lost in a mix of love and lust, though we're not certain that this is a match made in heaven. Love is a fire which can be explosive and tear the lovers apart. And you never can go wrong with a sax!Let It All Hang OutThis is a cover from a 1967 song by the Hombres, and a “southern-fried parody” of Bob Dylan's “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” A number of other artists also covered this song, including Cream, John Cougar Mellencamp, and Wheezer. It's a fun song.88 Lines About 44 Women If the Nail had a “hit” this was it. This single peaked at number 46 on the US dance chart, and was laid out on a new Casio keyboard. The Nails had released several versions of this song previously on independent labels. Lead singer Campbell says that the song pays tribute to the power and glory of sex, drugs, rock and roll...and love. It is dedicated to the women in my life to did their best to keep me human."Home of the BraveThis song has a Warhol-esque feel to it. “Hectic madness of city living where the whores are dancing on the table tops and the juke box plays Apocalyptic bebop.” ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme from the television series “Night Court”We were introduced to Judge Harry T. Stone and the eclectic characters that pass through his courtroom on this sitcom that premiered in January 1984. STAFF PICKS:Say it Isn't So by Hall & OatesLynch starts of the staff picks with one of two new singles released on Hall & Oates compilation album "Rock 'n Soul Part 1." It was stuck at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, behind Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney's "Say Say Say" for several weeks before finally taking the number 1 slot. It is about the downside of fame, and the oddness of everyone seeming to know them. The Politics of Dancing by The Re-FlexRob's staff pick hits all the hallmarks of mid-80's music, including the keyboards, drum machine, spoken lyrics, and low tones. This song went to number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is the title song from the debut album by The Re-Flex. The band stopped working together by 1985, but members often collaborated on each other's solo projects.Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder Heather Lynch brings us a reggae-infused tune that hit number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song lyrics reflect a man smitten by a woman from whom he must move on, but it also reflects Wilder's struggles with delivering a hit that the record label would take.Holy Diver by DioWayne features heavy metal virtuoso Ronnie James Dio in a solo outing. It was from his debut solo album of the same name. The lyrics are about a Christ-figure on another planet who sacrifices himself for his people. This song was one on Clear Channel's “inappropriate to play” songs after the attacks on 9/11. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:1984 by Van HalenThis short instrumental leads off Van Halen's album of the same name.

Hello, and welcome to Beauty and the Biz where we talk about the business and marketing side of plastic surgery and how outsourcing is trending. I'm your host, Catherine Maley, author of Your Aesthetic Practice – What your patients are saying, as well as consultant to plastic surgeons, to get them more patients, more profits and stellar reputations. Now, today's episode is called "Outsourcing is Trending — with David Kaufman, MD". There is a trend happening in our industry to outsource the parts of your practice that you don't enjoy doing such as: HR Benefits Management Inventory and so on Its popular in other industries to consolidate these tasks for increased efficiency as well as economies of scale to decrease overhead costs. This week's Beauty and the Biz Podcast is an interview I did with David Kaufman, MD who is a board-certified plastic surgeon in private practice in Fresno, CA. He is in the process of transitioning his practice to allow him to focus on surgery versus the business side of surgery. He explains what he gains and what he loses when he hands off this part of this practice and how this outsourcing is trending amongst cosmetic practices. So interesting… Visit Dr. Kaufman's website P.S. Please review!

Paul Brogan – A Sprinkling of Stardust Over the OuthouseAired Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 3:00 PM PST / 6:00 PM ESTJoin Lori Powers-Otto and myself this week as we interview author Paul Brogan. Paul will be discussing his latest book: A Sprinkling of Stardust over the Outhouse is the long-awaited follow-up to Paul Brogan's highly successful first book, Was That a Name I Dropped? released in 2011.Call-in with your questions: 202-570-7057More about Paul:Paul came out as gay when he was ten in the early 1960s and faced a number of obstacles for doing so. He approached them without losing sight of who he was, eventually winning over the naysayers who urged him to be someone other than himself.A Sprinkling of Stardust is a true story that is rich in detail as it tells Paul's story with humor and heart as well as harsh and sometimes shockingly brutal reality. In the 1980s, playing the starring role in a musical production of Peter Pan, Paul Brogan sang the song “Never Never Land.” The lyrics “I have a place where dreams are born, and time is never planned. It's not on any chart. You must find it with your heart. Never Never Land” had a great deal of meaning to Paul. Frequently he found himself getting choked up as he sang them. After coming out at the age of ten, Paul created his own Never Never Land. It represented a safe haven, a refuge where he could do and be himself. It was a place to which he escaped after being sexually abused, raped, and suffering a series of life-threatening health issues. His latest book is not a sequel to his 2011 best-seller, Was That a Name I Dropped? Instead, it is the rest of the story told in the same frank and honest manner that earned him kudos for the first book.It is funny, sexy, insightful, moving, and will have the viewer turning away in shock and horror in some instances. Ultimately, it is life.Enthusiastic Response to Paul Brogan's WritingWas That a Name I Dropped? is even more rare. It is a must-read, and incredible journey and the fastest and most enticing 532 pages I have enjoyed in years. (Tommy Lightfoot Garrett, Canyon News, June 19, 2011)Paul has now written a top-flight memoir, which has the narrative flow of a Dickensian novel. (David Kaufman, celebrated New York author of Ridiculous! The Theatrical Life and Times of Charles Ludlam [2002] and Doris Day: The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door [2008], May 30, 2011)It was a nice mixture of personal tragedy and high-octane gossip, and of course we all love titillation.” (Rex Reed, columnist, June 8, 2011)I also HIGHLY recommend Was That a Name I Dropped? by Paul Brogan. Paul has known EVERYONE in Hollywood. It is an incredible memoir accounting an incredible journey! (Richard Skipper; celebrated producer, performer, and writer; December 10, 2011) Paul Brogan was born in New Hampshire and grew up enjoying the natural beauty of the state that is nicknamed “The Granite State”. After attending Plymouth State University, he set out on a life adventure that took him, eventually, to Los Angeles where he worked at CBS Television City.Along the way he provided collaborative assistance and research support for two successful books, “Crowning Glory” (1996), the autobiography of celebrated Hollywood Hairstylist to the Stars, Sydney Guilaroff, and “Doris Day, The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door” by David Kaufman (2008). Paul has also written several plays, musicals and screenplaysPaul's first book, “Was That a Name I Dropped?” was released in 2011 and was so successful that it hit number-one on numerous best-seller lists. It was hailed for its frankness.Paul has won numerous awards for his writing and in 2014 won a New Hampshire Press Association Award for his blogging. He currently teaches film classes for the OLLI Program at Granite State College and since 2018 has hosted a television talk show entitled “Capital Area Chats”. His book, “The Concord Theatre and Concord's Love Affair with the Movies” released in 2019 by Plaidswede Publishing, becoming a number-one best-seller.Visit the Dr. Kevin Show page at https://omtimes.com/iom/shows/dr-kevin-show/Connect with Dr. Kevin Ross Emery at http://www.mydrkevin.com/#PaulBrogan #DrKevinRossEmery #TheDrKevinShowSubscribe to our Newsletter https://omtimes.com/subscribe-omtimes-magazine/Connect with OMTimes on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Omtimes.Magazine/ and OMTimes Radio https://www.facebook.com/ConsciousRadiowebtv.OMTimes/Twitter: https://twitter.com/OmTimes/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/omtimes/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/2798417/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/omtimes/

But it CAN be put into remission.”— Randy EcklerHow do you solve a problem that you aren't ready to admit exists? When it comes to alcohol and substance addiction, the problem of denial isn't confined to the person suffering the addiction. Catalyst is a Creative Industries podcast, from Chapman University. Each episode features Chapman students who have completed a Podcasting course through the Center for Creative and Cultural Industries at the university. Students who had no podcasting experience or technical ability in the genre before taking the course were able to contribute all the segments to Catalyst this season with the goal being that they will take this ‘hands-on' experience and carry it over to the launching of their very own series. Each episode of Season 7 will feature one to two different interviews conducted by CCI students, exploring different aspects of the Creative and Cultural Industries. Segment one this week tags along with Joey Graziano as he sits down to talk with entrepreneur Timmi Jandro, co-founder of the online retail experience Energy Muse. Jandro explains the jewelry, crystal and gemstone business that she runs with her partner and how she found that her background in the garment industry could be applied when starting Energy Muse. In addition, Joey and Timmi delve into marketing for the company and what the exciting next steps are for expanding the experiences Energy Muse. In segment two, Johnnie Ladd interviews voiceover actor and acting coach David Kaufman. Kaufman has a long list of credits including roles in Prom Night, Back to the future animated series, and CBS Dweebs! to name just a few. In addition to discussing how he got started in the entertainment business Kaufman tells Ladd about Young Actors Workspace, an acting studio that he and his wife Lisa Picotte started in Los Angeles for coaching young actors. Their studio has worked with many aspiring and talented actors including Taylor Lautner and Rico Rodriguez from Modern Family. To end, the two talk about how becoming a coach has helped Kaufman's own craft and how rewarding the job can be.

Beautiful Blasphemy One of the finest and underrated, underexposed and almost unknown, "The Nails" are in fact one of the bands you should have heard so much of, but they never got the radio play. New York City's finest "New Wave" act from the 80s, known for their hit "88 Lines About 44 Women", and "Things you left behind", they created a wonderful catalog of incredible music, twisted lyrics, dark images, and everything you wished you knew about when it was happening. I have been a lifelong fan of these guys because of the music, and just the obscurity of such a band, their music is bleak, powerful, witty, and enough to make you wish you had actually lived that deviant lifestyle they sing about. I got to interview Steve O'Rourke and David Kaufman of the band, while other members were trying to find a way into the interview. The stories behind the music are not inspiring, but affirming, of people who just "Carped their Diem". website David Kaufman youtube #thenailsband #newwave #88lines #musicalplasphemy Please consider supporting us on patreon
Many organizations operate under the assumption that the future will look fairly similar to the present. The reality is—that's not often the case. With disasters increasing in size and frequency, it's critical to consider how disruptive changes in the broader environment can impact your people, mission, and operations. David Kaufman, Vice President and Director for Safety and Security at CNA, shares how companies can overcome preconceived notions and recency bias to develop adaptive capacity at an organizational level. We discuss: Bridging the gap between theory and reality in emergency planning The confluence of trends leading to bigger and more frequent disasters How the relationship between the public and private sector impacts response Why rigid plans can be detrimental to emergency management Reach out to David at kaufmand@cna.org or on LinkedIn. In this week's Chaise Lounge, Nick May chats with David Kaufman, global Digital Director at Architectural Digest! David has quite the resumé, having worked as an editor for the New York Times, Quartz, New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, and many more. He went into Architectural Digest with an understanding of the real estate world. He has a particular fascination with celebrity culture and gossip, as well as recent interior design trends like personal gardens. David shares his thoughts on the future of interior design and real estate in a post-Covid world. There is plenty of uncertainty as things continue to transition to the "new normal". Millions of people were forced to work and/or study from home, and many took the opportunity to create a study room, or a Zoom office. Some created extra bedrooms and even gyms. With everyone going back to their workplace, will they keep those new rooms or will they revert? Those who bought an extra house to escape the chains of the quarantine, will they sell it? As for interior designers and real estate agents, will their backlog correct itself or will it become even more chaotic? One thing's for sure: the real estate market went through a boom in the aftermath of COVID. If you'd like to learn more about David, you can contact him at david_kaufman@condenast.com or follow him on Instagram @kaufmandavidnyc This is like, the party's last hurrah. Folks are still... trying to accept the fact that, whatever we've gone through over the last year and a half is basically over, and we're gonna have to get back to our lives. Architectural Digest's global editorial director Amy Astley does not want the 100-year-old magazine to feel stuck in a legacy mindset. While print subscriptions are still an increasing area of the business, she said, the brand's digital presence and social media content have become significant ways for AD to grow a much younger and more diverse audience. Enter global digital director David Kaufman, who was brought on last year as a way to further the publication's international expansion and global integration. Now Astley and Kaufman are working together to create a larger audience, using all of the channels in their arsenal, including YouTube and Instagram, to fill the funnel of new viewers who have the potential to become subscribers, or become online shoppers as AD continues to build out its shoppable video and content. In the latest episode of the Digiday Podcast, the pair discusses why the pandemic led to new opportunities for experimentation, like launching new content verticals and building out its commerce business and leaning further into platforms frequented by Gen Z and millennials.
David Kaufman speaks with Saige about going from intern to full time employee at a label then leaving the company to start his own music label, New 11 Records. He also provides insight into YouTube from a digital marketing perspective, starting a label 101 from David's experience so far and he speaks on his biggest fear in taking this leap.
In this bonus episode, we're continuing our coverage of the COVID-19 vaccines. We revisit a panel that Zahra hosted with David Kaufman, digital director at Architectural Digest, about myths and myth-busting around the vaccines and Black and Latinx communities. Along with experts Dr. Leon McDougle, Dr. Gbenga Ogedegbe, and registered nurse Sandra Lindsay, they discuss how to address inequitable vaccine access, the valid questions many people may have about these vaccines, and much more. David Kaufman, Ph.D. is a published author with several years' experience in writing academic works, journal articles, and books, both fiction and nonfiction. His recent book, Clues to Lower Mississippi Valley histories: language, archaeology, and ethnography, was published by the University of Nebraska Press (2019). David offers an analysis of social, cultural, and linguistic change in the Lower Mississippi Valley from 500 to 1700. He charts how linguistic evidence aids the understanding of earlier cultural and social patterns, traces the diaspora of indigenous peoples, and uncovers instances of human migration. Historical linguistics establishes evidence of contact between indigenous peoples in the linguistic record where other disciplinary approaches have obscured these connections.David has also published two language books, the Biloxi dictionary, and Mobilian Trade Language phrasebook and lexicon, with an Atakapa Išakkoy dictionary in progress.
